Newcastle Linked With Another International Striker

Newcastle were linked with Anderlecht striker Dieumerci Mbokani back in October, and we are again being linked with this 26 year -old today, as the January transfer window quickly approaches.

Dieumerci Mbokani – Newcastle again linked with the almost 27 year-old

But with our current three strikers being fairly old – our two Senegal strikers are both 27, and Shola Ameobi is 31 – we would have thought that Newcastle would have tried to bring in a younger striker, who can be given time to grow into a first team player on Tyneside.

Mbokani was signed by Anderlecht from Monaco a year last summer to replace Romelu Lukaku, who joined Chelsea at that time, and is now on a season long loan deal at West Bromwich Albion, and of course scored against Newcastle this season, just  a few weeks ago at St. James’ Park.

Mbokani has a good enough goals record at Anderlecht and in 35 games has scored around 22 goals, but how he would perform in the English Premier League is an open question.

Mbokani turns 27 next Thursday, so he’s probably right on the limit of  who Newcastle like to bring into the side – it used to be around 26 years old or younger, and he has played 16 times for the DR Congo with 6 goals,  and the 6’1″ striker was born in Kinshasa, Zaire (now called DR Congo).

There’s news that the player is keen to play in the Premier League, but we’d be a bit surprised if Newcastle do bring this player in, although with Shola Ameobi now more than likely to be part of the Nigeria squad for the African Cup of Nations, which takes place in South Africa starting in January, we expect to be linked with a number of strikers now through the end of the year.

It also looks like Newcastle will almost definitely need to bring in another striker in January.

What do you think?

Here’s one that I have heard today and I am not saying there is any truth or fact to it as it’s all just speculation.
NUFC to sign Remy in January with Marveaux being part of the deal.
Make of that what you want.
    Possible but food for thought.

i dont think i have seen any part exchange deals since andy cole/gillespie so i doubt that is true tbh
never heard of the lad in this article and knowing the toon we will prob not hear who we will sign untill we sign them as every player we go far other teams tend to try and pinch them from our scouts ! so dont think they are daft and i would rather be left in the dark and get a good player than know month’s before and lose out.

Catchy- still not run out of credit? I know of your long term dislike of Pardew. I could even use the line of you taking an instant dislike because it saved time later. He’s managed a highly complex character like HBA really well and he’s responded . He owes us a good goalscoring performance in the hole behind Ba. WHU played more football than most Allardyce sides. Agree with your comments on Ba and Cisse . Not on motivation being laid at his door because with top draw players motivation comes from within. The manager prepares the player delivers. Hope we have cause for celebration I forecast 2-0 earlier in the day and despite Lawro going with me I stand by it. Have fun.

A striker? Not unless we lose one in the window – and I dont count bambi as anything more than a sub, at best.

We need defence strengthening, without doubt as our main priority.

Once that is sorted, if they still have money to spend, then a younger version of a Bellamy type player would be a lovely late Christmas present!!
