Alan Pardew has made three changes to the Newcastle United line-up for Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Swansea City at St. James’ Park, and the Senegal FA and FIFA have prevented Papiss Cisse from starting the game because he did not travel to play for Senegal against Niger in mid-week.
Here’s Newcastle’s statement on that issue.
In come Vurnon Anita, Sammy Ameobi and Cheick Tiote – with the Ivorian having just completed his three match ban for being sent off at Sunderland.
Newcastle will still start in a 4-4-2 formation with Sammy being up front with Demba Ba, so we hope we can get some control of the central midfield through Cheick Tiote and Vurnon Anita.
Shane Ferguson keeps his place on the left wing, and Anita comes in for the injured Jonas Gutierrez, and the back five are unchanged from last week, and local lad Steven Taylor is captain today.
Gateshead born Danny graham is on the bench for Swansea today.
We hope the lads can get the win today, after what we consider a stupid and spiteful action initiated by the Senegal FA, in stopping Papiss Cisse from playing.
Teams:
Newcastle United (4-4-2)(4-4-2): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Steven Taylor (c), Davide Santon; Hatem Ben Arfa, Cheick Tiote, Vurnon Anita, Shane Ferguson; Sammy Ameobi, Demba Ba
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, James Tavernier, Mehdi Abeid, Gael Bigirimana, Romain Amalfitano, Sylvain Marveaux, Shola Ameobi
Swansea City (4-3-3): Gerhard Tremmel; Angel Rangel, Garry Monk (c), Ashley Williams, Ben Davies; Jonathan De Guzman, Leon Britton, Itay Shechter; Pablo Hernandez, Michu, Nathan Dyer
Substitutes: David Cornell, Chico Flores, Kemy Agustien, Dwight Tiendalli, Wayne Routledge, Luke Moore, Danny Graham

Comment #6Not actually too disappointed in Cisse missing out, he’s been in a rut for a couple of weeks now since his goal against Bordeaux. He needs something to jolt him and hopefully this is it, an opportunity next week against a woeful Southampton defence to prove a point to his country and his club for backing him.
Can see us edging a scrapy 1-0 win today. Hopefully.

Comment #12Sammy is often up front with the reserves. This is definitely too close to call. Could be 3-0 us, 3-0 them, or 3-3, with Swansea playing always expect goals, we can break them down easily at the back, they’re not fast and their wingbacks are awful.

Comment #20I like the idea of Sammy in the free slightly withdrawn role, with crazy legs you always get the feeling he might do the unexpected and HBA is learning the right mid slot well. Worried about Dyer though.

..so we are counting on Tiote and Anita to win the MF over a three man Swansea MF and to create enough chances to both Ba and Sameobi?
…did I get that right?

Comment #33im not so sure about sammy starting..think i would prefer shola…. especially since possession is going to be difficult.
This is certainly not going to be a pretty game to watch. A lot of counter attacking most likely.
