Big Chance To Get Papiss Cisse Shirt – It’s For Charity

8:48 pm, Tuesday, November 20th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 156 Comments

Papiss Cisse is auctioning his number 9 match shirt from Newcastle United’s recent clash with West Ham United, and the bidding has started on ebay, and the money goes to a local hospital in Senegal.

Papiss Cisse with that shirt – you can bid for it today

Unfortunately there was a hiccup earlier today , and the bidding had to be reset on ebay, after the bidding had reached $1400, so it’s a bit frustrating for everyone concerned – but hey – everything working now and you can bid here.

A spokesman for Friends of Sedhiou had this to say:

“As it stands, the hospital is not equipped to deal with many cases it encounters.” “As a result of this it has to transport the patients to a larger hospital in Dakar, which is four to five hours’ drive from Sedhiou.”

“Tragically, some patients do not survive the journey. It is this injustice which Papiss and the Friends of Sedhiou would like to rectify.” “Improvements to the ambulance, and additional resources and equipment at the hospital would do this.”

“In addition, Papiss is building a mosque in the area which is of vital importance.” “Faith and religion are the cornerstone of life in the community.”

“This is something which is valued greatly by the people who live there.”

And Joe, one of the organizers told me today:

“Can’t tell you how nice a guy Papiss is. As down to earth as you could wish for. He does so much for the area but even he cannot do it alone.” Fingers crossed it picks up again and we see it get the bids it deserves. The winner gets the shirt presented by Papiss himself at St James’ Park.”

Here is the link to the ebay listing – with the bidding at the time of writing being a low £275.

Let’s help Papiss Cisse as much as we can – here’s such a great guy and doing a great job for his home country – we’re proud of him..

Great cause but out of my price range unfortunately.

    Anyway

Just a question for those who like this thing. Well 2 separate questions.

    1) can anyone name the player who has won the premier league, the FA cup, the champions league, the euros and the World Cup.

    2) there have been 6 players who’s first and last name begin with the same letter who have scores prem league hat tricks. Can you name all 6? (Eg. Players banes like Carlton cole, he isn’t one by the way)

  • 3 Ian Toon // Nov 20, 2012 at 9:17 PM

    1) Thierry Henry

Let’s say Newcastle do get the two or three quality footballers the side is lacking. Would the team still be playing the long ball?

Is Pardew unable or unwilling to implement a more passing focused approach or is it the likes of Willo and Simpson who can’t do it on the pitch.

I suspect if we replaced Willo and Simmo with technically superior players we’d be playing less “hoofball” but still a fair bit of it.

Pardews teams basically play the long ball, don’t they, and so do Newcastle historically speaking.

stuart no9 @1…. you might just have hit on something with your suggection of £20 a goal for each one Papiss scores.

Just think, fans sponsoring his charity goals (at a level chosen by individual sponsors) might just give him an incentive to put them away.

Maybe his team-mates might consider helping him a bit more to score too? You never know, it may incentivise them too.

    Just a thought.

lesh – thats not a bad idea. I wonder if Bet Butler (new ground sponsors) would pay a set amount every time Papiss scores this season?

A few corporate sponsors might fancy that one!

  • 123 Ketsbaia9 // Nov 20, 2012 at 11:32 PM

Tonight’s Champions league results just show you how poor the English Premier league is now. The German, Italian and Spanish leagues are all ahead of the English leagues.

I think Man Utd are a very poor team. They only have Rooney, Van Persie and maybe Hernandez who are decent. The rest of their squad sucks. Ferdinand, Giggs and Scholes are all past it. Evra was always a better player at Monaco. Johnny Evans and Rafael are poor. De Gea is a poor keeper. Nani is overrated. Ashley Young isn’t good enough. Cleverly is mid-table standard. Anderson is poor. Carrick is useless.

We have much better players like Ben Arfa, Coloccini, Santon, Krul, Ba, Abeid, Marveaux etc. We just need to sign players like Debuchy, Alderwerewield, Boudebouz, Sissokho and Remy to see teams like that off.

Liverpool are poor. Tottenham and Arsenal have decent squads. Man City need to get rid of Barry. Everton have strengthened. Fulham are an experienced side, but are still dangerous. All the other teams are poor.

  • 125 Ketsbaia9 // Nov 20, 2012 at 11:43 PM

Kagawa was a decent signing, but they are simply not as good as they used to be. The Italian national team are doing well as most Italian teams are playing Italian players. Juventus had plenty of Italians in their team today and absolutely humiliated Chelsea.

Our national team was the best in 1996 when only 4 foreign players were allowed to start in a team. Players like Les Ferdinand, Matt Le Tissier etc should’ve been given more of a chance.

  • 127 santonthenewmaldini // Nov 21, 2012 at 12:34 AM

I know Simmo and Williamson are not that great but everyone says that they are to blame for the Hoofball when it is not the case yes they do it a lot but the biggest culprit by a mile is Krul !!

Every time he gets it he punts it even when there is an easier pass on and a lot of the time its not even an accurate hoof it was even worse after his mistake because it knocked his confidence

We pass back to our keeper a lot and every time he passes it to an opposition so we need to get it drilled to him 1st to stop hitting it long

Simmo and Willo dont need to be great at passing they just have to be able to give it to a better player which they are trying to do more but until Krul stops just hitting it every opportunity we will not keep possession even Rob Elliot’s passing is better!!

  • 128 jimmysmith // Nov 21, 2012 at 2:12 AM

That’s true, Krul does “hoof “it and often poorly, but why is he put in that position so often. I guess because defenders aren’t comfortable on the ball and/or teammates aren’t showing and the opposition is doing well shutting down their man.
I don’t think Krul’s kicking is the major problem.

Jesper- Good Morning – Hope Villads is much better. Have a good one mate.

  • 130 Santon03 // Nov 21, 2012 at 6:56 AM

Watched Juve vs Chelsea 3-0, I wish that’s how we are going to play. Quick direct one touch football, barely seen long ball, and Buffon hardly ever kicked any long ball, Formation 3-5-2 solid at the back and very good in midfield and 2 wingers attacking and crossing frequently, sometimes they play as WB.
    ———————–Buffon————————-
    —–Bazzagli——–Bonucci——-Chiellini——-
    Lichtsteiner———Pirlo—————Assamoah
    ————Vidal————-Marchisio————-
    ————–Quagliarella——Vucinic————

    NUFC version:
    ———————–Krul————————
    ——Simpson——-Colo———Saylor——–
    Jonas—————Tiote—————-SAnton
    ——–HBA—————Cabaye/Anita——-
    ————–Ba————Cisse—————–

If everyone is fit, I would prefer Perch than Simpson and Raylor than Jonas. One of the strikers in Juve play more into wide position sometimes 2nd striker.

Also, I like this guy Roberto Di MAtteo, he is a class-act, a real gentlemen, I hope AP can learn from him.

  • 134 cyprus // Nov 21, 2012 at 7:30 AM

Good points, Santon@130. I hope our longest ‘contractee’ (AP) will read your idea there. Disagree regarding Raylor, he’s about half the player Jonas is, despite his current slump. Would he ever have played for Argentina or any national team? Raylor is strictly squad material. I would agree that Jonas needs a rest and a role, but… And yes, DiMateo is a gentleman, but I suspect he’s out at the end of the year.

  • 135 jimmysmith // Nov 21, 2012 at 7:30 AM

Santon, that is a top team and top set up on paper. If we could get in Douglas to replace Simmo and Debuchy to fight it out with Santon and Jonas at fullback I’d be creaming my kecks in anticipation, until they actually went out and performed that is. Can’t see Newcastle emulating the Juve way I’m afraid.

  • 136 Conaldo (The Wizard...Also Bestest Friends With Paul Scharner) // Nov 21, 2012 at 7:42 AM

I agree with some of Kets comments from earlier.
The premier league is poor in terms of quality, it’s entertaining and it’s competitive, but if you compare the best teams in our league to the best teams in Spain, Germany, Italy, France, holland. There’s a difference in class.

I didn’t watch the chelski match as I was watching the new bond movie, but I’m reading that RDM has been sacked? I didn’t think Chelsea were doing too badly, everyone knows they shouldn’t have won the champions league, so why should they be in it now?

  • 137 Ian Toon // Nov 21, 2012 at 7:55 AM

Santon- Chelsea. V Juventus for me showed how weak most PL defences are and I am talking about our best sides. They compensate by scoring more goals. Chelsea’s defence second half was just like watching Newcastle’s. Particularly when Coloccini is not there to organise we simply lack any leaders. Chelsea ‘s CD’s had big gaps between them allowing Juventus many one two’s around them. They did not operate as a unit. Simpson frequently isolates himself from the defensive line and is exploited . He’s just not a thinking footballer and it’s difficult to coach into a player. When looking at quality – which Juventus were – an astute coach looks at how to exploit weakness. Newcastle. defensively with the current personnel have been found out and increasingly Pardew has sought to play a defensive formation to plug glaring holes. We additionally are unable to play remotely the style you seek because it’s not the often blamed Pardew’s mindset but
players who can’t play the often short pass and move game. Anita is one for the future style which is why he was bought. Pardew has bought 5 of our 9 proper players and hopefully a few more will be through the door in January.

  • 138 jimmysmith // Nov 21, 2012 at 7:55 AM

If RDM gets sacked it’d surely be a blessing for him. He’ll be handsomely compensated for being released from what could easily be a hiding to nothing and as a champions league winning coach would remain eminently employable. Good luck to him, he is a classy guy, I’d have to agree.

  • 139 Ian Toon // Nov 21, 2012 at 7:59 AM

Santon — Please Raylor is a good squad player . Jonas has a lot to offer the starting line up he’s not yet ready for the knackers yard.

  • 140 hotdog // Nov 21, 2012 at 8:19 AM

Ian toon – I would say that one of Simpsons strengths is his reading if the game. He holds his line well often covers his centre back and knows when to get tight or not to his man. What lets him down is his natural ability ie pace composure delivery etc going forward.

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11668/8263533/Sky-Sports-understands-Chelsea-boss-Roberto-Di-Matteo-expects-sack

Is this more of what people want from Pardew, as personally, I think he might have gone a step too far.

  • 142 Rotonda heights // Nov 21, 2012 at 8:39 AM

    santon03

Juve were great last night and I think 352 or especially 343 can work very well.

I’ve always liked a sweeper and Colo is made for that role. It’s very secure defensively if you have 2 wing backs and 2 hard working midfielders.

Doubt Pardew would ever go for that. It’s a continental system so we’re snookered there.

For now I’d be happy with 433 or even better 4231, anything but 442 hoof ball. We may even be pleasantly surprised tomorrow.

  • 143 hotdog // Nov 21, 2012 at 8:42 AM

Ibiza – do you mean him “expecting to be sacked”?

Rotonda- you can have any formation you like the bottom line is players need to play to their potential which too many are not doing at the mo!

  • 144 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Nov 21, 2012 at 8:50 AM

Hotdog……Well, I suppose that bit is a given at Chelsea really, but still, “it’s my fault, I pick the team, we were rubbish, i’ll likely get fired” isn’t exactly inspiring, but maybe that’s just me.

  • 145 Graeme // Nov 21, 2012 at 8:52 AM

Good morning Ibiza, hows your morning on your fence? Its hissing down here!!

Accepting the blame is one thing – if you got it badly wrong. I guess RDM knows he is now in the same position as Ranierie was. Chelski have zero class when it comes to their managers, they treat them appallingly with absolutely no respect for the man.

RDM is effectively a “dead man walking” the players, owner all know he is history, but they wont put him out of his misery until it suits them – effectively trying to force him into resigning to save the club money. He doesn’t deserve that treatment, Chelski dont deserve a decent human working as their manager.

  • 146 hotdog // Nov 21, 2012 at 8:57 AM

It’s sometimes refreshing when a manager calls it as it is but yeah his comments were straight after game which ain’t always a good idea. He must know that pepe is coming in though and he was just looking after the shop for a year!

  • 147 Rotonda heights // Nov 21, 2012 at 8:57 AM

Would have RDM here in a heartbeat. Should have got him years ago.

Young, humble, good English, quite recently finished playing top level, great contacts, good football to watch. Ticks a lot of boxes.

  • 148 Rotonda heights // Nov 21, 2012 at 9:00 AM

    hot dog

Most of them are continental payers used to 4231 or 433, even 451.

It is a culture clash as Pardew is an archtypal English manager stuck in 442.

  • 149 hotdog // Nov 21, 2012 at 9:05 AM

    Rdm just been sacked spooky

Rotonda – agreed but the players ain’t doing it no matter the formation

  • 150 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Nov 21, 2012 at 9:06 AM

Rotonda……..He does seem very straight forward and has done well at a super pressure club.

I suppose that’s an interesting question. Overall, who is the better boss, Ashley or Abramovich?

    Lot’s of factors to consider.

Graeme & Hotdog….Exactly, we all know it, so why does the manager need to say it? Will just fuel and cause greater unrest imo. I get it and the honesty, but is it always what is needed or is best for the club and players?

  • 151 Rotonda heights // Nov 21, 2012 at 9:08 AM

    hot dog

    we’ve played 442 all season

  • 152 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Nov 21, 2012 at 9:13 AM

Sorry RDM…..I can’t help but feel responsible :)

  • 153 Alan_Pard_Who // Nov 21, 2012 at 9:13 AM

    Weill done to Roman.

Without hesitation he has sacked another manager who didn’t fit his ideals.

That to many might seem terrible but Abramovic doesn’t hesitate. He fires at will as much as he spends at will.

He has a dream to create a team that will win everything the right way and he’ll stop at nothing to achieve that.

    If only we had him.

I don’t condone firing for no reason but Abramovic had a reason and followed it through.

Let’s hope Chelsea now come in for Pardew!

Now, that’s a thought; Pardew as the next Chelski manager?? I guess stranger things have happened – that pig flying past my window may be an omen!!! I’m not in any rush to get to the bookies on that bet lol

    It definitely wasn’t a bird, I promise!!

  • 156 Dude // Nov 21, 2012 at 9:24 AM

Try bidding from abroad, can’t be done. Stupid really as the reason is the shirt can’t be shipped overseas. Exactly ! The fact he hands it over in person is one reason for bidding and I am happy to go to newcastle for that to happen. Doh !!!! Shame, I would have happily added a few notes to the going rate.
