Reports On Spanish Striker Signing Not True

We had reported last Monday that Newcastle were said to be interested in Rodrigo Moreno Machado – known as Rodrigo – who is a 21 year-old striker born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and currently plays for Benfica.

Rodrigo – no interest from Newcastle – Alan Pardew

Benfica paid €6M for him when he moved from Real Madrid to Benfica in 2010 on a five year deal, so he would not come cheap, but we think we can now cross this lad off the list, because when the Newcastle manager was asked whether the reports on Rodrigo were true:

“That, as far as I am concerned, is not true.”

Newcastle were said to be interested in bringing the 21-year-old to St. James’ Park in the summer.

Rodrigo has done well at International level though he still has to get his first full cap for Spain, who he decided to represent at International level, and he has played for all the Spanish Youth sides, and 10 times  for the Spanish U21 side with 12 goals,  and he’s made 4 appearances for the U23 side.

It looks like we can cross this lad off the list – he would have been expensive in any case.

for our play to improve we need to strengthen or right fullback and wing positions .. our build up play is terrible

There are two problems/missing elements to our squad.

A good centre back and full back who can attack and defend. (Need both skills otherwise you end up playing too defensive and invite pressure as you aren’t pinning the opposition back)

And the second is pace. Ben arfa has a great acceleration to beat a man over 10 yards but not blistering pace.

We either need a pacey winger or striker to get in behind. With our lack Of pace teams can play a bit higher and crowd all of our technical players out making it harder to pass through them.

Pace is something all the top teams have. Obertan may be quick but for whatever reason he won’t run at the opposition enough.

For the first team, we need a fullback and centre who can defend, create chances ad score goals. Alderewerield and Debuchy are ideal signings. Alderewerield is available in January for a decent price. Anita can persuade him to sign. We could do with Ryad Boudebouz (right winger) and Sissokho as he’s free next summer. Loic Remy will add pace and strengthen the attack. If Ba or Cisse is not performing well, Remy can come in to take their place.

More competition will force players to up their game. We will get more positive results. It will be silly not to strenghthen the squad. I was right all along. I knew we’d struggle as we haven’t signed enough players. If we wouldve landed Douglas, Debuchy, and De Jong, we’d be in a much higher position now.

We have Marveaux, Ben Arfa, Gutierrez and Obertan who are all decent enough wingers. Boudebouz will strengthen the squad and will force Ben Arfa to play in the middle or on the left wing.

    This is our future team:

    Debuchy Alderewerield Coloccini Santon

    Boudebouz Cabaye Ben Arfa

    Ba Remy

Our second team would look like this:

    Raylor Saylor Good Gutierrez

    Anita Tiote

    Marveaux Ferguson

    Cisse Xisco

We should’ve signed Aly Cissokho. Even if we sign Debuchy, we’d still need another left back as cover. Ferguson is a winger.

Mauro Zarate for £7m would be a great buy. He’s at a great age too. He’d fit in well with Gutierrez and Coloccini being here. It’s a no brainer really. Just imagine our squad if we signed these players:
