Here’s an idea Ed. When we lose don’t ask this question. btw, major overhaul needed… Where’s the next point coming from?

  • 4 Conaldo (The Wizard...Also Bestest Friends With Paul Scharner) // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:51 PM

Darren – I’m devastated at the result. I know how serious this situation is. I can also have an opinion though, and in my opinion given the circumstances that was one of the best performances this season. The result doesn’t reflect that and that p1sses me off.
I can only have hope that we play like that against Wigan and get 3 points.

  • 5 Big Pappa Cissé // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:51 PM

    Anita & Santon for me

Jonas- Hopeless and spends more time on the deck

Willo- Worst 6 foot 3 header of the ball I have ever seen and turns like a ship

Simpson – Cares more about sha**ing birds than NUFC

  • 6 SupaToonKid // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:51 PM

So disapointing. Predicted we’d lose before the game but after leading till the final ten, it really is just frustrating.

i’m sorry man, but if you think we didn’t play badly you are more looking for pardew to prove himself a good manager than anything else

most of your posts, considering you are ardent pro-pardew, are pretty balanced, but it was another sh** showing and now, after four STRAIGHT defeats, you can’t even admit it

i’m fed up. i really don’t know what else to say. awful stuff

  • 11 stuart no9 // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:52 PM

no one is going to say ” i told you so ” but point proved – pards has to go . we got what we deserved or should i say – pards got what he deserved. we are going down . WE NEED A MANAGER FFS

  • 12 ToonDownSouth // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:52 PM

Suggesting that Graham Carr, John Carver, Andy Woodman and Alex McLeish replace Pardew genuinely shows an absolutely astounding lack of knowledge.

Our backroom staff are to blame for our style of football as well. Pardew is, of course. But if Carver, Stone etc were any different then it would not be this bad.

  • 13 eaststandgeordie1982 // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:52 PM

Anita ran his c@ck off tonite him and santon our stand out players, tiote needs a huge kick up his arse time for them to start playing 5 aside and learn how to pass

  • 14 89Norcal // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:53 PM

Definitely between Anita or Santon, but I lean more towards Anita since he did all he could against stoke’s front line at the top of the 3rd.

Santon was hesitant at times and blew a couple golden chances for a cross.

even armchair fans like me could see the folly in letting guthrie go. last time cabaye was out injured we coped well because of guthrie but pardumb in his infinite wisdom thought cabaye would never again get injured and decided to let a perfectly capable replacement go for nothing. like i said there’s dumb and there’s pardumn

  • 19 Big Pappa Cissé // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:54 PM

I would prefer Martinez or Jol than Pardew. Give him till Christmas and if we are still in danger of the drop get rid before it is too late

  • 20 SupaToonKid // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:55 PM

I really wish we’d gone in for Bryan Ruiz before Fulham did. His creativity etc would’ve been a massive outlet for us. I know we missed out but think what could’ve been… Imagine him, Ben Arfa & Cabaye in the same side. DENCHTASTIC!

  • 21 89Norcal // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:55 PM

Jonas had 1 good moment, when he stole the ball away in the 81st minute.

Besides that he was spectacularly poor like he has been for the last few months. Really is becoming a liability now.

I know people want Pardew’s head, but surely at this point that would do more harm? We don’t exactly have a healthy squad you know!

  • 22 mattnufc // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:55 PM

Matty, it was a decent performance. A lot more goal scoring opportunities than previous games where we never had any authority on the game. Stupid passes still cost us the game however.

42% possession against Stoke. Does anyone remember AP’s soundbite “Control the midfield you control the game”…..seems distant and at best theoretical cos’ we have not done that this season. This is our worst form since 2008 when we went down. If we loose at home to Wigan then I have to say I cannot continue to blindly put my faith in AP. Don’t wanna hear excuses about EL or injuries we knew all this, and we failed to get players across the line. What a SH*TE state of affairs!

  • 26 mattyNUFC // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:56 PM

and conaldo, not trying to have a go but there were so many things he could have done either before the match, at half time or after we got an underserved lead to change things up

this guy is f****g clueless. what’s his solution? make one substitution and shout at Webb that it’s four minutes extra time, not five

dunno who i’d want, much less who would come, but i can tell you honestly i don’t know how much more of this s*** i can take

and i think it says something. the indubitable man of the match (anita) is being asked to play in a position he’s never played before and frankly doesn’t know how to play effectively. we’ve got marveaux, abeaid and amalfitano waiting in the wings who all play an ACM role and he chose to pick a defender who only within the past 9 months was converted to a holding CM

it’s clear to me now, Alan Pardew has lost the plot, if he ever had it

  • 27 NUFC_LEAZES END // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:56 PM

    @jeff

Roberts di matteo or John carver sounds good

  • 28 ToonDownSouth // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:57 PM

I wish I had enough faith to think that we’ll play a completely fresh lineup at the weekend, but we all know we wont.

Pardew even has an excuse to drop Cisse or Ba now after 3 games in 7 days, but no doubt they’ll both start.

Bizzarely, the only times Ba and Cisse linked up particularly well were when they both dropped deep – leaving us with no one anywhere near the Stoke goal.

  • 29 joeytoon // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:57 PM

a decent team with a decent manager doesnt throw games away with 10 minutes to go,weCANT defend so why does pardew insist on trying to defend a 1 goal lead ,its nonsense ,we gave this guy an 8 year deal, he did well with chris hughtons team, but for me ,although he has been shit on by the fat one by not strengthening ,his tactics leave a lot to be desired,

  • 30 catchy in norway // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:57 PM

i must have watched a different game,,

first half we hardly attacked, they had the better chances

second half, very scrappy, got the goal and sat on it again

he only made subs when they went 2-1,, what was wrong with 1-1??
he thought he could see it out and be happy with a point ,,
    his speach was wrote,,

there a good side,,not many teams will come here and get a point,,
im proud of my boys,, they gave it there all

    stand out performers

    anaita,, by a country mile
    then tiote

why marv did not get on is beyond me,

how jonas stayed on is beyond me,, he falls over a lot now
to be fair to jonas,, pardew said we are gona play with 12 men tonight,, jonas your 2 of them,, i could not tell where he was ment to be

the team has no direction, none at all

do you know whow stupid you sound when you come on half way through the match and stat spouting off to me and matty,, it was as if we had won 6-0,, you idiot

well 2 point of the relegation zone

we better hold onto pardew,,, manager of the season last year

You guys think its so easy

Spending money will not guarentee safety, quality and/or better footall

The root of the problem is tactical

You can say all you want regarding how we looked better tonight but ultimatley we couldnt have played any worse tha the 3 prevous games

did we deserve to loose tonight? No

did we deserve to win? No

The only way out of this is to boost morale in the dresing room and get the team playing football. You win by scoring not by buying.

    The end i nigh

Spuggy, you got it spot on, on the last thread. 4-3-3 with Cisse in the middle and Ba wide left was working, we should go back to that system. Ba isn’t exactly smashing goals in left, right and center, so when Ben Arfa is fit, that needs to be the system we play. So what if Ba isn’t happy with it, we were winning playing that system last season, it’s worth a try at least!

  • 34 jimmysmith // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:58 PM

I thought they had a real go. HWTL.

  • 35 LGFUAD21 // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:58 PM

    What a load of ballsacks.

Jonas spent the game either trying to win throws in his own hald of turning his back to his challenger to shield the ball and go down like a sack of dookie.

We start alright pass it around a bit then did the usual and resort to hopeful balls to Ba.

When will the players and coaches realise we look more comfortable passing the ball not booting it up the field.

Cisse wants to play with people that can work the ball into dangerous areas through smart passing. Thats why he always looks better out on the wing. If played up front alone or with a different type of striker or a true number 10 then he would be much more effective.

Colo let Jerome in for the second. He is more at fault that Willo.

Anita despite the flack he gets from some on here and despite being easy to bully of the ball at times could have been creative if he wasnt bypassed all the time. At least he likes to push up.

WHERE IS THE LINK UP BETWEEN MIDFIELD AND WELL EVERYONE ELSE ON THE FIELD.

I tell you I dont know how much more of this I can take seeing. I kind of hope Ba or Cisse goes just so we will get a different type of player in. im almost inclined to wish Ranger would play each week despite his problems and complete unproven in any league status.

    We need:

A new CB, A new RB, Simmo to sign a new deal, a proper left winger, an actual CAM/Number 10 and a different type of striker.

We also need Nolan and Barton back. At least Barton’s delivery was excellent and Nolan got in the box.

The only consistent player we have had this season is Santon.

  • 36 toonbrother // Nov 28, 2012 at 9:58 PM

even my grandmother could see that though he wasnt getting many goals leon best was a better partner for either of the two dembas. Noone including shola was more adept at recieving the ball with his back to goal than best. biut sir pardew in his infinite wisdom thought it sensible to sell best for peanuts and force cisse and ba to magically strike up a successful partnership. like i said there’s dumb and there’s pardumb

  • 44 Nufc-83 // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:01 PM

Conaldo we didnt contain stoke they scored two and also had a number of other good chances. We couldnt string more than three passes together and the only reason we scored was a Gk mistake not even good build up. The two chances from Ba and cisse which were the only ones we really had were long balls or a closed down deflection so again no build up play just well read by cisse and good pressing for Ba’s chance. We are performing by far the worst out of all sides in the prem yet you are happy what a twat.

  • 45 YOY_Yorkshire // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:01 PM

Poor performance although better than the last three. Perch and Anita esp the latter played well but Jonas and Tiote had a mare. Williamson was poor very poor and combined well with Tiote to gift Stoke the couple of goals. I cannot understand Pards taking off our two best players with 7 mins to go …. why not Jonas and Tiote? Might as well go for the point.

  • 46 Ryan2502 // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:01 PM

@ LGFUAD21, exactly my point, whats the sense in changing a winning system to keep one player happy, and relegating us in the process! Utter bollocks!

  • 47 stuart no9 // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:01 PM

we lost because pards never had the balls to go for a 2nd goal. cisse had 1 break away – no one in box ba then had a breakaway – no one in box again. shocking pathetic pardew.

  • 48 Conaldo (The Wizard...Also Bestest Friends With Paul Scharner) // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:01 PM

Matty – as I have said, I am devastated about the game, and the last 4 games. As I am every loss. I feel upset for days.
But I personally thought today was a great improvement on recent performances, and if you look at posts during the match you will see that I am not the only one.

    Today’s game proves two things.
    1.
We REALLY need to buy players in January. I don’t care who they are, bring in good players who can provide cover, and get Williamson off the pitch. I don’t like slagging off any player, but we need a better centre back of colos
    Calibre in his place.
    2. Luck is really against us at the moment.

  • 61 sirtoongospel // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:04 PM

Anita and Cisse worked themselves into the floor. Tiote lost the plot, and we all know Simpson, Willo and Jonas aren’t good enough.

We had that in the bag, tactically it was right and we probably should have been home and dried. But it was encouraging. Personally I thought the front 3 were brilliant. Demba, Papiss and Vurnon. All very good. Perch did well, and Santon, aftet that you wonder. They pegged us back which is one of those things, mistake from Cheick, but where were our leaders then? I have to say the most vocal on the pitch just now is Demba. Captains need to lead. Please get us 2 defenders in January. Simpson and Willo are killing. us.

  • 62 OhSholaAmeobi // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:04 PM

thought that was a massive improvement especially first half, far less balls being played long and to nobody, cisse, ba and anita worked hard and well, jonas/perch did a good job without being a threat. the bad news was that we conceded two goals due to stupidly giving the ball away (tiote, williamson) once again, and when they stepped it up we panicked at the back and willo/simmo went back to their below average selves. motm to anita for passing well, covering every inch of pitch and getting up to support the front 2.

whoever doesnt think we are in the crap are in dreamworld !! im sick of people saying no need to panic etc !! we are now more than 1/3 through the season and we are going backwards! williamson isnt northern league standard never mind premier league ! when pardew gave his reasons at start of season for not bringing in defensive cover he said because it would “block the way for the youth players coming through” so why after games we have lost he is blaming ” inexperience” ! not singing any cover in the summer is totally coming back to bite us on the arse! we need 2 centre halves because steven taylor hasnt played a full season for years ! we are lacking pace at centre half and someone who can be dominant in the air! we need a RB and should break the bank for debuchy ! we are crying out for a natural winger, someone who can go at people and take them on! jonas has been crap, obertan is crap, and the jury is still out on marveaux!!
i pray to god that ashley will put his hand in his pocket in january and invest in the squad otherwise it is going to be a long and worrying season !!!

*BTW- what has been going on lately with kruls kicking ???

Well it doesn’t take long to turn on the manager does it?

The buck stops with the man at the top… For he is the one to blame for lack of transfers… He has taken another step backwards after such a great season last time around… This was always a gamble not to invest in strength and depth…. Mid table lookers at the mo I’m afraid…

I’ve got to agree, but I’m not sure which players could freshen things up.

solano made a good point the other day, about how insulting it is to players like Marveaux when DL gave his ‘purples’ speech. That just cannot be good for moral at all.

Campbell, Abeid and Marveaux are the ones in my thinking. Ferguson looks good in the EL, but vanishes in the prem. And personally I think Sammy is pretty poor.

Relegation again, surely not. Buy 4 top players in Jan or it will happen.
Centre mid who can attack and get into the box
Centre forward – Someone whoi can hold the ball up.
Centre half – Commanding player who can aid when getting attacking corners
    Right or left back
This should have been done in the summer though.

  • 93 pedro // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:10 PM

I have never seen a professional footballer that is more uncomfortable with a football than mike williamson. He looks like he is going to sh!t himself when he gets the ball and so smacks it aimlessly or passes to Krul. I mean surely after spending every day with a ball since childhood he would be able to control it and pass 10 yards but I have never seen him do it.
Also, didnt see much of a change with the set pieces. The free kick at the end of the first half was a classic example, Anita floated it in towards williamson in the hope he would direct a header across goal. Genius! We dont use that tactic enough.
Sadly the stats are correct that we play far too direct but unlike teams like Stoke and West Ham do not have the personal to do it well.

  • 94 peterrwrightt // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:10 PM

    to the Pardew out -ers.
Be careful what you wish for. If Pardew was to be sacked (which he will not) Blanc would not be our manager, we’d have a manager from the Championship.
I really just hope we get no more injuries now, and Ashley buys a couple of GOOD defenders in January.

  • 95 Marty-Toon // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:10 PM

Anita pressed well all day,he kept it simple with his passing.
Tiote seemed like a cat caught in the headlights at times and lost the ball for one of the goals but he also tackled well tonight.
Willo was poor as usual but Collo was at fault for the second by ball watching even though we shouldn’t have given them the ball so cheaply.
We looked a much better side tonight but why didn’t Marveau start instead of Jonas …commentator was even talking about him not bringing anything to the table.
Thought we were gonna win n joy turned to sorrow very quickly.
Our players need to stand up n be counted, put in some aggression and passion like Anita showed today.

This testing period could well be the making of Anita as a premium Newcastle player, a real fighter with excellent technique, also Perch who battles and battles and plays the game simply and well. Newcastle have the core of an excellent squad. Changes are needed, but this reality check leaves me optimistic about our next incarnation.

the only thing i notice from tonight’s game from others is that we played a passing game and not hoofball (sometimes) and we seem to have controlled the first half on counter attacks and breaking up play, but the second half was a nightmare 3 minutes after cisse scored stoke just kept attacking and all we did was kick the ball out of play or up the field were 4-5 stoke players were ready to receive for me i think DOOM is right it has to be the tactics, as me and probably every reader on this site knew we were gonna lose when we once again played a 4-4-2

  • 102 West Lancs Geordie // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:13 PM

Does it really matter who was the best player 2nite. The fact remains we failed to close out a game we were leading in with 9 mins to go. Even worse we lost it! WE are now playing worse than the season we went down. I honestly feel that if we lose to Wigan next Monday we will go down. Wigan played well against City & Di Santo & Kone are lively. Their midfield was always in their faces. Why was Willo the 6ft 3 weekling playing 2nite. He is useless!!! Saylor injured again? Why are we not giving young Ferguson a go. At least he can cross a ball.We are now on the barebones having to rely on players who are just not good enough. Need massive crowd support on Monday Night. Please no protests & no calls 4 sackings.

Dont win against Wigan and the atmosphere is going to be horrendous. 2 points off the drop zone, the similarities between this season and the one were we went down are endless.

I look forward to another three four days of upset fans crying out win a win. Its the supporters who travel i genuinely feel most sorry for. Four defeats from four games against teams we should be giving a good run for there money as a team who finished fifth and above the champions of europe over 38 games. The bubble has burst, every excuse under the book has used. Words mean nothing now only actions.

Wigan next at home, must win otherwise we will probably be about on the relegation zone. Struggling to stick with Pardew right now, he didnt get us fifth last season ba and cisse did. 6 shots against stoke when John Walters had six shots alone. They had more corners and outplayed us, we see two or three passes as a success which is a sign of the times.

nico @ 42 ” we havnt got the players to compete” hes been here 2 years – whos fault is that ???????

  • 109 BandB // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:15 PM

When Alan Pardew said in the close season, that the target for last season was eighth, and that it still was for this one, I was worried.
I made the point that in business, sport, politics and war, the hardest thing to achieve is a strategic retreat. Which is what he was being asked to achieve. Perhaps uniquely in football history, his brief was “get out there and get us DOWN the league.”
Last season we burst through. We routed the battlefield. And the order came to give up the ground the players had sweated blood for, and return to their trenches. “And, by the way, the reinforcements I promised, I’ve stood them down.”
When you decide to retreat, you are no longer master of how far back you will be pushed. I said that, and it’s being proved.
It’s messed with the players’ heads. We are an army of football refugees, in headlong retreat.
Ashley and Llambias didn’t reinvent the football wheel. They were just arrogant enough to think they had.
They have fans. Not among those who sit through 94 minutes of Allardyce-lite at every home game, and like me, trudge home vastly out of pocket to pay for a regime that has no interest in football. Their fans are among those who admit they saw a match once from the home section in London, and their chorus. Or, as someone else has pointed out, get their “insight” from computer games.
It’s funny that paying customers who want to see us winning and competing are trolled as neggers, while those who make no investment and regard us as a mid-table bunch of also-rans at best, lecture us on what being a true fan is.
Purple is a casino term. It was an incredible insight into the poverty of the club’s thinking. Quite unique.
Our development players once went on loan to Sunderland and Boro. Now they go to League One. The failures once went to Hartlepool and Carlisle. Now they get rejected after a trial at Gateshead.
Ibizatoon, I didn’t diss you by not answering your long response a few months ago. I did appreciate it. I went to bed to escape FatMan, who had decided to stalk me like Jack the Ripper. And Jeff, who suddenly seems to have flipped.
I was horrified by the booing after the Maritimo game. But I did wish that Ibiza, Tsunki, TADS and the rest had been there to say “hold on you chaps, may we just put you straight.”
    That would have been fun.

  • 112 Newcastle for alltid // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:16 PM

I actually feel sorry for the players today. Partly because Stoke turned the game around, but most of all because they don’t seem to know how to play football. We don’t have a gameplan and the players don’t know where to move. This makes our game extremely slow and vulnerable to aggressive opposition. We are very poor playing along the ground. One player moves at a time, no simultaneous movements. We seem to always play on the first movement instead of waiting for a second or third to catch the opposition off guard. We’re extremely easy to play against when we can’t move simultaneously.

My impression of our gameplan at the moment is get the ball to Simpson, Simpson passes to Williamson, Williamson plays a long ball forward, often towards Anita with no aerial abilities (can’t blame him), and hope for the best. Works in 2 % of all cases.

Gameplan 2: Get the ball to Gutierrez. He doesn’t take the risk of challenging players, so he goes down and gets a free kick. The free kick is sent forward with no real adress, and we all hope for the best.

This is Newcastle United – The Entertainers.

  • 113 Nufc-83 // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:16 PM

I am astounded that people still have the energy to come out with the positives after watching our performances. We are the worst team in the league by a country mile (not on paper as individuals but as a team) we cant string more than 3 passes together we are officially the most direct team in the league which if we had carroll up top i would say fair enough crap football but maybe effective. We have a manager who continues to play two sts who look like they are blind when they play together week in week out regardless of injuries we should be playing a 5 man midfield with one of them up top.

    Im not so sure.

  • 115 GeordieAnt // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:17 PM

Lads come on….I’m as gutted about our form as the rest of you, but the fact of the matter is…there was a difference between this game and the rest….today we have positives to take out of the game.

    1. Anita looks to be getting used to the pace of the league
    2. Cisse actually looked like he was returning to form, a lot more confidence in his overall play…ran for the ball more, defended well, and never gave up
    3. Ba and Cisse were playing quite decent as a pairing
    4. Colo looked solid apart from for a couple moments
    5. Perch again…apart from a couple silly tackles looked solid.

It’s not all doom and gloom. Instead of bitching and calling for Pardew’s head and crying that we’re gonna get relegated…why don’t we do what we’re best at…stick behind the team…be the 12th man…and hope we can build on the performance today. Those saying it was a shit performance…honestly…I question your knowledge of football.

Lets keep showing the world why we’re known as the best supporters in the world…lets keep supporting our team no matter what, no matter how disappointed we may be….there are still plenty of games left, and our team are going to need our support every step of the way.

  • 116 Dannyo // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:18 PM

    @TDS
First off, i know i’m not in training every day, so i base my oppinion on what is viewed on the pitch.

I think Tav is a good option at CB. Comfy on the ball, has bags of pace to make up for mistakes, good chance to learn with Collo on his side.
Sammy is a decent goal threat i think, i see him having potential in a nr. 10 role.
Campbell is still injured, if he wasn’t, he’d be there ahead of Nile imo.
Biggie has gone a little lost, but doesn’t add anything just yet.
Jonas needs to be out of a starter, Fergy, Sammy, Marveux, all options you could atleast test ahead of him.
    None can be worse, surely.

And if you want creativity, you surely cannot field 4 DMs in a midfield. You gain nothing going forward, the link will be gone with the strikers and you invite pressure, cause you only have DMs to break up play.
Usually u’d have wingers or a 2nd CM to bring the ball forward, but not with that lineup you dont.

  • 117 jimmysmith // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:19 PM

Pardew is on a steep, steep, learning curve right now and remains wholly committed to Newcastle as far as I can tell. If by the off chance he were sacked or allowed to resign, I’d become way more concerned than I am now, and also angry.

We were playing better in our relegation season!! Really can’t explain these performances… We must scrap against Wigan, play dirty, do what it takes. Stuck on 14 like we were on 29, a couple years ago. But this time, there’s time. We need 3 GAME CHANGERS at 30 million, believe me that will sound cheap compared to another season in the Championship

  • 120 West Lancs Geordie // Nov 28, 2012 at 10:42 PM

We need more than two quality CBs & a class FB as things stand with Yohan & Saylor out till February, Chiek & Shola at African Nations & other injuries. We also need strong ball winner in midfield & a quality creative midfielder. Biggy & Sammi are only fill ins at present but would give Fergie a proper go. Need another pacy striker to give us another option as Demba & Papiss just can not play together (too similar). But MA will have to spend big bucks to achieve this & the only way he’ll do that is by cashing in on one or two best players which he simply can not afford to do. Dilemma? Fraid So!
