Good News – Three Players Close To Full Fitness

11:16 am, Friday, November 30th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 21 Comments

Alan Pardew was delighted with the play of his team at Stoke on Wednesday night when we were narrowly beaten – although Alan didn’t look too good at the end of that game – in fact he looked like death warmed up.

Alan Pardew - not looking good at end of Stoke game

Alan was delighted with his side on Wednesday night, and the lads put up a good performance but got another awful result – the fourth defeat in a row in the league.

Here’s what Alan told the local press today:

“We couldn’t have done much more to stop it at Stoke and we just fell short.” “The players were magnificent at Stoke.” “I couldn’t say that on Sunday at Southampton but I can now.”

“One or two are due back. But I don’t know if they will make the next game, it is a bit tight.” “We can take plenty of heart into the game.” “I feel sorry for the players.”

James Perch is suspended for the game – and it doesn’t look like Shola Ameobi, Gabby Obertan or Ben Arfa will be fit for that game – although all three are close to coming back – which is good news.

In fact all three should be fit for our game at Craven Cottage a week on Monday – where we will try to get the win against Fulham.

So the team almost picks itself for this Monday night:

Krul
Simpson Williamson Coloccini (c) Santon
Gutierrez Anita Tiote Ferguson
Cisse Ba

Changes to that side could see Sammy Ameobi in place of Shane Ferguson on the left wing.

What do you think the team should be on Monday?

    On HBA,
I really don’t see how it was a risk playing HBA in Europe if that was the case then it’s a risk playing him anytime, how is he more likely to be injured against European opposition as opposed to say Stoke or the mackems.

Ed, we always go for a win.

Of like to use the extra man in midfield as Wigan play 343 and could over run us if we have two up top, especially when those two don’t work well together.

Saying that though if cisse and Ba chase hard then we could pressure their back 3 into mistakes.

We’re missing a Chris Mort type Chairman figure. Your mate DL doesn’t merit respect in the football world at large whereas Mort did.
He would not have started singing purple is the colour and expect fulsome praise. Largely the PR side is left to AP. But MA and DL will be under the spotlight if we don’t have more than a few quality signings through the door.

    Jail

In if the opinion you play your best players when fit and in form.

Rest them when they are tired not in case they get tired.

As you say, Ben arfa could get injured in any game or on training. Obviously more games increases the risk but why have a player if you won’t use him.

Barcelona play messi in every game and he is rarely subbed. It’s a risk you take to keep your best players in the pitch. A player has never won a game for is team watching from the stands.

There is also the need to retain sharpness through match fitness.

Exactly…the way we set up is causing problems.

We have 2 games a week when playing europa league fixtures. This means that, as we play 2 different sides, the players are not getting used to playing with each other. With so many changes being made game to game you lose some cohesion.

Also it means when we prepare for games that we have two different sides preparing for different opposition, no time to adjust to one system.

Look at Spurs, they are doing well by playing a similar team in europe and the league.

Should play gabby if he’s fit

Sorry to have missed you of late but having to work when not travelling . Could not face the negative types on blog. The Catchy’s seem to be breeding like rats but are as thick as pig shi- if that makes sense. The fans on away trips are united behind the team it’s plain miserable. Stevie Taylor had left tickets for one of our group with Santon to hand over. The players are on board with Pardew and your
spot on with your general comments. Did you see we got knocked out of youth cup to Arsenal losing 3-0. Agree with your comments on youngsters not being ready to throw in just yet. Might take lad to see reserves tomorrow v Villa11 o’clock ko . Could be good chance to speak to AP.

@ED – Alan may have looked like ‘death warmed up ‘-
. . But at least he had the sense to where a jacket – on Sunday, on top of everything else, he ruined he suit, standing there in the rain sharing our pain.

  • 15 Londtoon // Nov 30, 2012 at 11:51 AM

Think we need to play marveaux personally. If him and obie are fit I would have them instead of fergie for definitely and maybe even guti. We are missing flair players. Players that can actually do something. We need more ben arfas or attacking midfielders that can set up ba and cisse as they can’t do it all

  • 16 Ian Toon // Nov 30, 2012 at 11:56 AM

Pushy- how’s things mate. I am on holiday got a wedding later today. No not mine!! I managed to see 3 defeats in less than a week. Bro got tickets for South Africa game at Twickenham, saw a poor performance at Saints and a better showing at Stoke where we should have got a point. If Pardew had more confidence in defence we could have gone for second goal. I am having to work over weekend as part of time off for away games . I agree on spirit in camp . From what I’ve observed moral is high. On playing side Fergi has looked out of his depth he needs time before being thrown in. Enjoy the game tomorrow.

  • 17 Ian Toon // Nov 30, 2012 at 12:07 PM

arch- you tell them. Pardew’s a good guy and appreciative of the fans support. Some of them on here should think about what’s involved in being a supporter. Get behind the team on Monday. Stop the Whinging and give the negative types a wide berth. United we stand divided we fall. HTL

Krul Anita Coloccini Ameobi (Sa) Gutierrez Ba Simpson Cisse Perch Ferguson
    liverpool had 64% possesion
    only tiote missing

    nufc v west h 0-1

krul, simpson williamson taylor santon cabaye jonas cisse fergy ba anita amiobe obertan HBA

only tiote and colo missing,, not injured, red cards,

    nufc v swans 1-2

krul simpson taylor williamson santon HBA anita tiote fergy sammy BA shola , biggi marv shola

colo mising for red card, cabaye injury, cisse senagal fa jonas , but was he missed??
    2 injured

colo was stupid at liverpool, thats not bad luck, cabaye yes,, but players get injured, cisse was payback for the olympics, but anita has been one of our better players of late, and cisse has been missing all season,,

    southampton v nufc 2-0

krul, simpson willamson santon taylor anita tiote, jonas fergy BA cisse perch sammy marv

    colo red ceard
    cabaye injured
    hBA injured

anita again he has been fantastic

did we reall have an injury crissis, or is it part of football to have a few injuries

the only player that is really missed is HBA but that was 2 games,

if the guy came out and said what most of already know,, wrong formations he be fired now,, but because lambass knows nothing about football, he can blame injuries

we dont have to believe him though

  • 20 MacToon // Nov 30, 2012 at 12:23 PM

“The players were magnificent at Stoke.”

Not the word I would use, the players “improved” at Stoke imho but still along way to go.

  • 21 woolerbill // Nov 30, 2012 at 3:25 PM

Southampton and stoke were exactly the same, the defense gave away stupid goals, easy goals cost us 6 points. I’m still waiting to hear something a can believe come from a/p mouth.
