Sky Sports’ Guillem Balague is reporting that Newcastle are interested in Valencia winger Sofiane Feghouli, who was born in France of Algerian descent, and played for the French U18 and U21 sides before deciding to play at International level for Algeria, and he has 7 full caps.
Sofiane Feghouli – Newcastle interested?
This is what Balague told the Sun:
“His buy-out clause is £20M but Valencia are the kind of club that are selling everybody at the moment, so he could go for much less. He has the quality to play for Arsenal or Man Utd and I reckon you can get him for £12M.”
“For that value, if anybody wants a winger, he’s a good bet. He says he wants to stay but his contract is up in 2014 and he earns less than £1M a year, which anybody in England can pay. I believe Newcastle are after him.”
“He’s a good bet for anyone who wants a winger. Valencia will sell and Newcastle could move for him.” “Feghouli is very versatile as he is a right-back who can also play right wing and he’s developing into a forward. He’s coming to the fore and looking quite good.”
Feghouli joined Valencia from Grenoble in 2010, but that £20M buy out clause will put Newcastle off – but how much could he go for – if it’s £12M like Balague suggests, it’s still far too much for Newcastle to pay for this 22 year-old.
He’s played 13 times for the Spanish club this season with 6 goals, and since joining them in 2010 from Grenoble he has appeared 61 times with 13 goals, and was on loan at Almeria for one season where he appeared 10 times with a couple of goals.
The fact that he can also play full back and seems versatile enough would be attractive to Newcastle because we need a lot more cover for the first team than we have at the moment, with the squad having nine injured players and the Magpies now struggling in the Premier League.
But we think he’s too expensive for Newcastle – what do you think about this player?
