We were hoping Newcastle may go back in for French International right-back Mathieu Debuchy in January – but that seems unlikely now, after the Lille defender has said he will not be leaving his French club in the middle of the season.
Mathieu Debuchy – not leaving Lille in January
And with the Frenchman turning 28 years old in July, that could signal the end of Newcastle’s interest in the player, and if we are looking for a right back to potentially replace Danny Simpson this summer – if he leaves as a free agent at the end of his contact – Newcastle will be looking at younger players.
This is what Mathieu said yesterday:
“I will not be leaving the team in the middle of the championship, I don’t like the Winter transfer window.” “In the future you never know what can happen. I prefer not to think about it.”
Newcastle were close to signing Mathieu last summer, and though they had an offer accepted by his French Club – it seems Lille kept moving the goalposts – and the fee kept getting higher, until Newcastle just got sick of the antics of the French club.
It’s a pity we didn’t get Mathieu through the door, because he is a good player and we think he would have done very well on Tyneside, where he would have been joining his best pal – Yohan Cabaye.
It doesn’t look like that will happen now.

1) We will concede – most probably from williamson mistake
2) We will not complete 3 or more passes, because we love giving the ball to the opponents
3) Anita the 7.4 MILLION SIGNING will still struggle and people will still say “give him chance, give him time to adapt”
4) Our best attacking came from our left back – Santon
5) we will still play LONG BALL STRATEGY – even after four consecutives matches i doesnt WORK

Comment #5We do not need Mathieu Debuchy or any other right back.
We already have Santon (a superb right back playing as an ersatz left back), Tavernia (potentially a very good right) and Simpson (potentially a very good right back for some other team).
We need a left back. We need an Ashley Cole / Leighton Baines type quality player.
We should go for Chelsea’s on loan left back Patrick Van Aanholt who has already played for us (better the devil you know etc). Right age, experienced, English speaker with Dutch compatriots already at the club. And probably not too expensive and seems surplus to requirements at Chelsea.

it amazes me how much you watch football and how little you know.
Anita is a great footballer. Some say he’s picked up the ACM role. I think differently but don’t say he needs a chance. What he needs is to play in his CDM role.
case in point, brutooon:

go ahead Bru, i challenge you to watch those and tell me it’s more him, or many other factors like a) the team around him then vs now and b) tactics, formations and c) the stark difference in where he played for ajax vs now, for us

Comment #7Wasn’t our good start to last season put down to Pardew setting up the defense right, being able to identify the attacking threat of the opposition and meticulously working on nullifying it? Our attacking players bought into the idea and everyone was happy. Even HBA began to play more for the team with offering more for the defense.
This season however, there has not been such a consistent defense with injuries and suspensions, but Pardew is still trying to concentrate on defense with the emphasis on players closing down the opposition. We work hard when we don’t have the ball. Goals against us are normally down to individual mistakes.
What we don’t do well is work hard enough when we do have the ball i.e. movement off the ball. The whole set up of the team and the psyche is too defense minded. Everyone even the flair players seem to be on the back foot.
This is an area I think Pardew has to address. New and better defenders are going to cut out the mistakes maybe, but I think we have to get this defense mentality out of the flair players minds and concentrate a bit more on getting some goals.

Comment #8RonVanDam, Simmo is pretty solid as far as defending goes, and his workrate is massive which makes the difference for his lack in attacking ability.
Anyways, didnt we have a few other public RB targets? I’m sure we can find someone else for relatively cheap who is around the same class as Debuchy.

Comment #11Think this is a smokescreen as well. If he stays he goes for free in the summer. Better deal for him but bad for the club.

Comment #1289norcal simmo is a dreadful right back its that simple.
Brutoon anita has been our best player along with santon the last few games his workrate off the ball wad incredible and his closing down reminded me of the barca team. Just needs to work on his passing range for me and we will have a player.

He’s really not, and his absence was sorely felt when he was injured a month or two ago. Defensively I’ve seen him put in great effort. Can’t cross consistently to save his life but let’s blast our midfield before Simmo.
Not every team can have a Debuchy or a Dani Alves

Comment #15Debuchy is not world class, if that’s what you’re implying.
If he came here I think a lot of people would be very disappointed to find out he’s not the vast improvement on Simmo we needed
better, undeniably. world class? far, far from it

Have to agree, I think Anita will soon start to find his feet and become one of our top players. You must be doing something right if your starting for Ajax even if they aren’t the team they once use to be. Really think he has a great short passing game and we need to do more of that rather than having Willo lump it up to the oppositions left back.
I would still take Debuchy next summer as I do rate him as a top RB but he ain’t world class as he needs to play in a stronger competition like the PL before we can judge

Comment #22We can now target Corchia and M’Bengue. We should be looking at paying out £4m. It’s a shame on Debuchy but who knows what will happen. Realistically, we need a left-back. Aly Cissokho would’ve been ideal.
