Rallying Cry From Alan Pardew

8:21 am, Sunday, December 2nd, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 55 Comments

After four consecutive Premier League defeats, Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has called on the Newcastle fans to pack St. James’ Park tomorrow night, and roar on the players, as the lads try to get out of a big slump in their Premier League form this season.

The Newcastle crowd at St. James’ Park

Alan Pardew held his press conference yesterday and while the player have to earn the applause and encouragement from the Geordie fans, he’s hoping there will be a big turn out as out lads try to win their first league games in six attempts.

This is what Alan said:

“The crowd are going to have a big part to play in this game.” “It’s a Monday night and we need as many as we can get there. We need their support now.”

“This is the first tough period we have had as a group since I have been here, and we really need to tough it out now.” “They were absolutely superb at Stoke, They clapped us off after we had just been beaten for the fourth time.”

“And that was a surprise to me.”  “But it was lovely to hear and gave us all a boost.”

Unfortunately Wigan are coming into some good form, and in their midweek game against Manchester City they were the better side in the first hour, before going down 2-0 to the Premier League Champions.

And last season we managed to scrape a 1-0 win in the same fixture with the winning goal coming form Yohan Cabaye after 81 minutes, and then of course at Wigan last April, our six game winning streak was shattered when we lost 4-0, with all goals being scored in the first half.

We’d settle for another 1-0 win tomorrow night.

Comments welcome.

So read the article about ba and tbf he should go in january
He should go somewhere where he gets the level of support he deserves of the fans cos he sure doesnt get it here!
Nowhere does eds article say or link to anywhere where he’s asking for 90k a week at all
Last season he got pushed out wide a majority of the fickle fans were saying flog him he’s not scoring (forgetting the 16 goals that fired us into contention for europe)
This season fires in 8 goals and the same fans want him sold? Like its his fault pards plays 442? Dont buy that at all
The poor bloke seems in a lose lose situation here!
And the same ppl want andy carroll back? Did he get 8 goals since he left the toon never mind this season (he’s got 1 this season btw and thats in a team playing exactly to his strengths) and seems like an injury prone has been at the age of 23

  • 5 Graeme // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:09 AM

Any win tomorrow will be a good one – as long as we win it!!

  • 6 RonVanDam // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:13 AM

We will win tomorrow. 4-2. Cisse getting a double. im calling it.

  • 7 Alan Pardew // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:16 AM

    toonarmydownsouth,
Sorry don’t agree, IF he really wanted to be here he wouldn’t demand such an increase (he knew the wages when he signed) and IF he is demanding this figure I’m sorry but i would rather he left.
but no I don’t want Andy Carroll back there are much better players out there for the money.

  • 8 RonVanDam // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:16 AM

Wigan might use the same formation 4-2-3-1 as the did last season when they thrashed us.. Hope pardew has something special in his bag (if he has one)

Just read through the article of today and I must say if it is true that Ba wants 90k a week then we might as well just play Cisse up front and get use to the idea of Ba Ba getting a huge payday somehere else…

…these footballers are grosely overpaid in my book – more want more as they say!

  • 10 Graeme // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:28 AM

Jeper, good morning, Unfortunately, we are not exempt from the free market. Ba’s “Advisers” (and I use the term loosely, “Parasites” would probably be more appropriate) know there are clubs out there who will pay him £100k+

He has pretty much proved his knee is up to the job, having had not a single problem since he joined us. That he wants a salary more in line with his status as a TOP Premier League Striker is hardly surprising in the circumstances. Would we all not do the same in the circumstances??

  • 11 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:35 AM

    AP
The point bieng where dies it say anywhere that he’s demanding anything? No where just media B/S stirring up some excitment as were a month from the jan window
Ba and no one fron the club have said ge’s demanding 100k so have to say no idea where ed got this story from cis i cant find anywhere else reporting it

  • 12 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:36 AM

Graeme…I know more want more, but the are talking about an average workers pay here, but athletes who entertain the masses and are grosely overpaid!

…if there are clubs who want to pay Ba and the likes there of (Simmo ;-)) huge money then I don’t mind seeing them leave.

That’s the way of life and life as we kniow it at NUFC goes on :-)

I want players who wants to be here and don’t ask rediqueless money just because either can or because others are getting it!

  • 13 tequilamag // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:38 AM

Good morning Jesper well done by pointing out “if true”. There is not a single quoted source in the Express story.

  • 14 Graeme // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:39 AM

TADS – its all over the press this morning – Daily Express etc

  • 15 RonVanDam // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:42 AM

As to the previous story on BA. I think he deserves 90k a week. He’s a proven striker and knows there are other strikers who earn more than him who aren’t scoring as much as him and looking at the ladder, he surrounded by some of the best strikers in the world who make 4 times more than what he does. He proved it with West Ham and with us last season. Would you blame him?

Imagine yourself working at Mcdonalds at $10 an hr and Burger King offers to pay you $13, would you leave or stay? Does loyalty count when you are replaceable? Would you rather earn $120 more a week doing the same job or hold out at Mcdonalds hoping for that pay rise whn you know its not coming? You gotta look at your Oppotunity Cost.

Ba knows his career could end at any time with that dodgy knee of his. And has done a good job protecting it so far. He’s getting older and career is winding up and his goal scoring form could disappear so he needs to secure his future before other one of the above catches up on him and so does his agent(s). People looking in will say its greed. Person whos actually going through it will look at it as looking after himself and protecting his future.
MA wont pay him 90k. If there was any chance of us getting AC back, it would be to make a swap deal with Liverpool plus cash. I don’t think BA will survive more than 2 years at anfield and will get frustrated and force a transfer out

I hope we get 2 defenders and 2 strikes in the Jan window. He’s my 1st 11 if MA does splash out

    Krul
    Debuecy Collo Douglas Santon
    Anita Cabaye Tioti
    Carroll Cisse Remy

  • 16 Graeme // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:43 AM

Jerper, such is life my friend.

His prospective “rise” is more than most people earn in a year; its obscene, yet its the market rate. He is 3rd top striker in the Prem – what do the 2 above him get paid by comparison??

  • 17 tequilamag // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:46 AM

Graeme I think the wages Newcastle pay are probably the going rate for the majority of PL clubs but much lower that the big 4. The question is would any of those big teams take the risk on Ba with his knee problems? There were no bids last transfer window.

  • 18 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:51 AM

    Graeme
Once again no qoutes no sources just the media stirring up a story just before the window opens last season it was 70k if i remember

  • 19 Indian Magpie // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:52 AM

Any 1 else thinks us not signing Gervinho was a good thing.

  • 20 Indian Magpie // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:54 AM

I honestly think NUFC have leaked this story to generate interest.

  • 21 Alan Pardew // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:55 AM

    toonarmydownsouth,
exactly why I high lighted the “IF” but I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some level of truth behind it after all we do know what his greedy agents are like and of course there is about 5 of them lol!!

  • 22 Indian Magpie // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:56 AM

  • 23 check the toastie // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:56 AM

I know Ba has scored goals, but my personal opinion is that Cisse is a better fellar and really does enjoy playing for the club, Ba’s ego is self consuming and this is affecting the whole setup of the team and how we are going about winning football matches,

Granted Ba has scored goals this year, however the team hasnt and that is down to Ba’s shitty link up play and over selfish attitude when he is on the pitch.

I would drop him and Play Cisse/Ranger or Cisse up front by himself and try and control some football matches and create some chances through good football rather than just loofing it forward into a front 2 that cant hold the ball up,

Tactics are pathetic currently. Ba and Cisse will never make a partnership, Ba is jealous of the success that Cisse got last year and seems intent on stopping it happening again. Seff Trimmer.

  • 24 tequilamag // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:57 AM

Indian, what possible Reason would Newcastle have for leaking this story? Give your imagination a rest.

  • 25 solano // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:58 AM

On Ba…this was supposed to be the new type of foreign footballer that was sussed out by our magnificent scouting network – to replace the former mercenaries who jumped ship in 2009.
In fact, he was a very decent centre forward with a suspect knee and a penchant for release clauses and collecting clubs. He was also available for FREE! Bingo! We were in for him like a rat up a drain pipe!
His early season goals this time round and last year were priceless but the continued speculation over his future just won’t go away. Because of our current predicament and the managers failure to find a balance upfront and forge an effective partnership, I’m afraid Ba may not be the only one seeking pastures new. He has been shuffled about a fair bit to accomodate others and this will not have helped his mood and a striker’s natural craving to be centre of attention; revelling in goals and glory.
Cue inevitable calls of ‘Judas’ and ‘good riddance’ and the merry go round starts again. Not only is Mr Ba typical of a modern day footballer but the club, will be quite happy that their calculated gamble paid off and he turned a profit. How and even whether it will be invested in something of equal quality is indeed a moot point.
Maybe a burst of good results – starting tomorrow – will make him stick around a bit longer? We certainly need him to.

  • 26 Graeme // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:58 AM

Tequilla – you may well be right, I don’t know. Clubs like QPR, desperate to stay up, will pay him silly money. What would 13 goals be worth to them if it keeps them out of relegation? £30 – 40 – 50 million??

In which case, paying him £5 million is a very good investment!!

  • 27 RonVanDam // Dec 2, 2012 at 9:59 AM

    @ Indian Magpie
Gervinho created lots of hype and hasnt lived up to it yet and never will. Oberton is better then him :)

  • 28 tjrowe89 // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:00 AM

Don’t fancy us on Monday, tbh don’t want Jonas playing not the same player anymore and I think his time has come as a first team player 1-3 Wigan Kone to score all 3

  • 29 RonVanDam // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:02 AM

    @ Indian Magpie
Why would NUFC leak this story to push out their top goal scorer? I would rather hold on to him till the end of the season. If negotiations breakdown in summer then i wouldn’t mind selling him then

  • 30 tequilamag // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:05 AM

Graeme I accept your point, football is littered with clubs that have over- extended themselves with wages in a desperate desire to stay up. I just find the timing of the story and lack of quotes very suspect.
For those looking at conspiracy by the club to drum up interest to make a profit on Ba please think this through, Where would we get a replacement for £7 mill. It makes no sense.

  • 31 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:06 AM

    Check
“Granted Ba has scored goals this year, however the team hasnt and that is down to Ba’s shitty link up play and over selfish attitude when he is on the pitch”

The “team” didnt score goals either last season it was either cisse or ba with the odd goal from arfa cabs n raylor that was it it has nothing to do with ba’s link up play or attitude
Some people seem to need a permenant scape goat

  • 32 JAMSHA // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:07 AM

    bring back viduka

  • 33 tequilamag // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:09 AM

Tads , the scapegoat role is all important on this blog but it baffles me that the one player who is regularly scoring goals should come in for this criticism.

  • 34 Indian Magpie // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:10 AM

    RVD and Tequila,

Last summer there was a lot of hype abt him moving away. possibly because no bids came in.

Now perhaps his antics have become too much and we want new players in. + he wont pass to cisse.

We wont sign too many purples. so may be. Its just my thinking.

  • 35 tequilamag // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:11 AM

    Indian What antics?

  • 36 Indian Magpie // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:15 AM

Tequila, not sure. guessing something with formation.

    Are we still alive?

  • 38 Indian Magpie // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:16 AM

    Niafron,

    Just about

  • 39 Graeme // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:17 AM

Tequilla, I agree with you completely, it is not in our interest at all. Ba was undoubtedly a big gamble for MA & Co which paid off, big time, last season. They got a proven striker, with an allegedly dodgy knee and it paid off for us quite spectacularly.

Ba has continued that form this season and is, by Prem League standards, very poorly paid compared to the goals he has scored.

He knows it; his hangers on know it; every team on the hunt for a goal scorer knows it. Our “Bargain” is now a highly desired asset by other clubs, who know they can get him for £7 million!! T

here is no chance we could replace those goals for less than double that – unless Carr pulls another magic rabbit from his hat!!

  • 40 Conaldo (The Wizard...Also Bestest Friends With Paul Scharner) // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:18 AM

Does anyone think we should just sign a player who can be the designated scapegoat? We all love to blame someone, so lets sign someone specifically to do that. Someone to blame for poor performances, poor set pieces, lack of goals, wasted chances, poor defending…
Wait… We already have Willo for that don’t we?!

  • 41 Graeme // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:22 AM

Wizard – You’re right, that’s Willo’s role although Pardeau is rapidly overtaking him for the post, closely followed by Jonas!!

  • 42 BelfastMagpie // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:26 AM

If we were to lose Ba in January we would be in trouble. You ain’t gonna replace him with peanuts like.

We could play 4-3-3 then though, but I don’t think It would make a difference. We’ve been crap what ever formation we’ve played.

If he doe’s leave I hope it’s in the first week of the window & not the last day. lol

  • 43 Magpies-till-d3ath // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:28 AM

Gutted if the news is true. He’s been a brilliant player for us and as long as he doesn’t go to Liverfool, I wish him the best. His problem is that he thinks the club revoloves around him, and it doesn’t I’m afraid! Anyway, at least if we replace him with Remy/Sulejmani/Doumbia we will be able to play the ball on the turf and not constantly hit long balls up to strikers that can’t hold the ball up. If Ba doesn’t start against Wigan tomorrow night, the news is probably true. :(

  • 44 89Norcal // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:29 AM

The most depressing thing about the game on Monday is that even with a win we could still be in 14th spot. So I hope we can start clicking and get some confidence to go on a good run.

  • 45 RonVanDam // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:30 AM

    lol @32
Viduka is now retired. Plus he scored 7 goals when he played for us in over 30 matches. We got him past his prime

  • 46 89Norcal // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:30 AM

scratch that, we could move level with fulham in 12th

  • 47 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:32 AM

    Tequila
Its mad that some are that desperate to blame anyone that they pick who evers in the papers for the wrong reason that morning!
And who do these fans want to replace ba? Cos they sure wont be happy with a choice of cisse shola or ranger!

  • 48 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:36 AM

My biggest criticism of our play in the last few weeks is that we make the first goal and then just stop attacking !
Its happened on a number of occasions this year. I am never happen with 1-0, and 2 or 3 0 always gives a better cushion should the opposition start palying in the last five minutes.
Stoke scored twice in the last ten minutes last week !

Lets make the 1-0 and then go for the jugular and push for the 2 and 3-0 Damm-it.

  • 49 check the toastie // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:37 AM

TADS – the argument people came out with last year regards ignore performance we are 5th in the league is similar to ignore Ba’s general contibution and just look at his goals for column, his overall play is woeful and massively selfish, always thought this but for a few games last year.

I feel if he was to leave the club and we started to play Cisse consistently up front with some help from another striker who might fancy to put some workrate in and work for the team on the creation of goals rather than just shooting or trying to create a shooting opportunity for HIMSELF everytime he gets the ball then that would enable us to progress as a team.

Remember he was playing in a West Ham team that went down, his touch is atrocious currently an when he does lose it he just stands and stares, am i the only one who sees this.

First and foremost you need commitment to the cause, he lacks it, similar to such previous employees such as Viduka, Owen, Duff, Butt, Bassong, Martins etc, remember that merry bunch, think you know what im getting at.

  • 51 niafron // Dec 2, 2012 at 10:41 AM

Gervinho isn’t the kind of guy we need in my mind.

A good player, but with guy like Obi, Sammy or Beny we already got lads of that profile.

We rather need players like Marv or Cab who are less individual.

We need a good LB, a CB and a good winger.

There’s my team with “?” when we need recruitment.
