Brilliant performance from Newcastle tonight. Pressing and disrupting Wigan and not allowing them to play out from the back paid dividends. We looked much better in possession and in defence and much more dangerous going forward. I’ve criticised Alan Pardew’s tactics recently but he got it spot on tonight. Dropping deeper in the second half did give Wigan more of the ball but crucially it made it harder for them to play balls in behind Coloccini and Williamson for Kone and Di Santo. The only real negative is the inuries to Ba and Santon but hopefully they won’t be too too bad.

  • 2 Rotonda heights // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:07 PM

A thousand times better. I really enjoyed watching that.

I hope to god Pardew keeps the pass and move 433 now.

He must see it works so much better than 442 hoofball.

It was shades of our purple patch last season.

If Ba is injured just put Benny and Marveaux either side of Cisse.

Great to see the ball being passed and players like Anita and Marveaux and later Bigi showing for the ball all the time. Hugely encouraging.

Pardew did what I have been waiting for all season.

  • 3 toonking // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:08 PM

IMO against fulham we should have a midfield of HBA anita tiote marvo

  • 4 jeff // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:08 PM

hard to decide who played better

the tip of the diamond (marveaux) or the base (anita)

  • 5 archaeomag // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:10 PM

Amazing but remember the world is still going to end on the 21st December . . .I read it in the paper

  • 6 stuart no9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:11 PM

well done to the lads for getting the 3 points, but thats where the compliments end.
can we still go down?? very much so- that 2nd half was a relegation performance . sell cisse- not only could he not find the goal with a sat-nav, he needs to understand what the off-side rule means, wor lass could explain that to him- then put bigi in his place.
give willo to gateshead, with our compliments- and give ba, cisse’s wages to keep him here. nearly forgot- then buy some quality ! there wasnt alot about tonight.however 3 points is 3 points, even if it was against wigan down to 10 men after 12 mins.

  • 7 Catchy In Straight Jacket // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:11 PM

    3 points I’ve missed you. :-)
And Ruddy would you please leave my evil twin alone, or i’ll have to spank you’re bottom.

  • 8 Marty-Toon // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:14 PM

Nice feeling to get a win again,we needed that.
Hopefully we put out a young team in Europe and don’t get bashed and again have a starting 11 for Fulham.
Another injury or 2 and were as thin as Victoria Beckham

  • 9 Beattie25 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:14 PM

62 complete passes from 69 attempts

  • 10 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:15 PM

    Are you f**king high!?

    Catchy I S J

    Sorry, I’ll pipe down :P

Great result, comfortable performance, was even impressed by the 2 players that get slated the most here. Anita was excellent, Marv looked tricky, Bigi showed a performance that belied his tender age, and Fergie again showed why he should be LW in front of Jonas (I know he played LB but he’s a LW imo)

  • 11 Nufc-83 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:15 PM

Think stuart had a few to many sleep it off then post something sensible tomorrow.

  • 12 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:16 PM

    Marveaux only misplaced 2 passes.

  • 13 Tsunki // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:16 PM

stuart no9 a repost for effect I see. Escape your notice that it as 10 men as a direct result of our pressure. They got what they deserved. 2nd half was a relegation performance? Why? because we didnt go on to score 5 goals? Repost for effect.

  • 14 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:17 PM

That Ronnie Stam’s normally a wingback. He’s miles better than Simpson and puts a decent cross in. I noticed that last week.

  • 15 Beattie25 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:18 PM

”was even impressed by the 2 players that get slated the most here”

aye Ruddy even I thought Santon and Colo played well

  • 16 ToonDownSouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:18 PM

    Relegation performance… Hahaha.. Morons.

  • 17 Black and White with an army lol // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:19 PM

we should nab stam he looked great tonight even when they went down 3-0 he still looked determined

  • 18 BelfastMagpie // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:19 PM

Bet you all the people who slated Anita feel daft lol

    He was class 2nite !

  • 19 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:19 PM

Based on a performance you saw last week and this evening you have come to the conclusion that he is miles better than Simmo? I’ll give you that he played well against us this evening, and perhaps even played well last week but surely you must do a little more research before reaching such a categorical conclusion.

  • 20 croftus5678 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:19 PM

    best players were anita/marv/santon/ba/bigi
    poorer players were cisse/krull
for me that pairing of marv anita worked wonders starting to think of a formation of

but cisse needs his head testing atm too many far too easy shots to hit the target gone astray and he seems to live offside atm no wonder ba is getting annoyed at him.

and erm unfortunatly i can see ba leaving after all the negative comments he’s had in the past combined with the money he wants (and to be fair if carrol and other strikers are worth 100k+ ba is definatly worth 80k i just hope we sign a striker half as decent as him in jan.

  • 21 Peter Beardsley // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:20 PM

Marveaux showed off some French silk tonight!

Imagine what could have been done with Ben Arfa and Cabaye!!

  • 22 GeordieDan // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:20 PM

Now do we play a very young and hungry team against Bordeux on Thursday and rest the big guns?

In context its not 2 important compared to getting properly prepared to beat Fulham next week.

3 more points and our 1st away win would be superb and not impossible!

  • 23 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:20 PM

Was wondering who would jump on that :P

    You didn’t disappoint.

  • 24 Tsunki // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:21 PM

Only down side is that Ketsy is in hog heaven now his protege has turned up. I am fully expecting Abeid to step in for a MoM performance against Fulham.

  • 25 Carryingcoals // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:21 PM

Not staying on here too long at all, wanting to avoid the usual post match grievances, but I’d just like to say…

    GET IN

Ok we should have taken it to them more but who cares, 3-0 and players looking noticably a lot more confident.

Let’s celebrate this one and grumble tomorrow…

    Well done lads!

  • 26 Beattie25 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:21 PM

Why does everyone hate on Cisse?

He is playing the exact same footbal as he did last season but we are not giving him the chances and Ba keeps getting in his way.

He isnt a footballer, he’s a god damn predator.

  • 27 AMEOBI // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:22 PM

Kets up Marveaux’s ass like usual.. Missed Abeid too, maybe Anita out Abeid in?

Well that was good performance happy with the start of many more wins to come

  • 28 Cool Hand Luke // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:22 PM

Peter Beardsley that midfield combo has me salivating

  • 29 hoppernufc // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:22 PM

Marv was class tonight, he was like watchm Ben arfa at times and has great composure and delivery needs to play every week

  • 30 Nufc-83 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:23 PM

Lol i think how comfortable simmo and willo had it you would have been impressed with anyone tonight lets not sing their praises for strolling through a very easy night.

  • 31 Tsunki // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:24 PM

Belfast – well said I just knew this lad would get up to speed especially after the stoke game. I hope he continues. Same with Marv – it would be so hilarious to see marv and hatem chew up dm’s but hey I am dreaming.

  • 32 Spuggy // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:24 PM

    If, and it’s a big if…

…we can keep Tiote, Cabaye, Anit, Marv and Cisse injury free and on top form we could beat anyone, we could put a great run together for the final third of the season.

  • 33 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:25 PM

That doesn’t mean they escape mention. Simmo went up and down the wing well and Willo defended everything that came his way, let’s not find reasons to dismiss their performance. You could negate Anita’s performance by saying the Wigan midfield gave him too much space but that would be doing him a disservice so why do it to Simmo and Willo?

  • 34 Tsunki // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:26 PM

we will see how cisse fares without Ba if he is injured for the next couple of games.

  • 35 BelfastMagpie // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:26 PM

Anita was class kept things ticking all night Tsunki.

    Marveaux was very good too.

  • 36 hotdog // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:27 PM

Martinez – I take my hat off sir, you are a gent. I hope you get a big team that your talent deserves!

  • 37 Spuggy // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:27 PM

Pards said Ba just felt a tight hamstring, reckoned he will probs be ok – it was precautionary.

  • 38 Tsunki // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:27 PM

well said ruddy. please be the real ruddy.

  • 39 Nufc-83 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:28 PM

Anita performed over and above and didn’t just do what is required without having much influence on the game.

  • 40 jeff // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:28 PM

also sammy is nowhere near the first team in my opinion

  • 41 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:30 PM

    I am indeed! :D

I wasn’t claiming that he didn’t perform over and above, the point I was making is that you could, if you were so called inclined, to try and find excuses that would diminish his performance, you wouldn’t do that for Anita, Marv or Ba so why do it for Willo and Simmo. Are they not as deserving of praise because you don’t deem them good enough?

  • 42 Beattie25 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:31 PM

If we can keep Tiote, Anita, Cabaye, Marv, Benny and Ba fit then all we hae to do is convince Pardew to drop Guti and play a modern 4-3-3 and we may not get relegated

  • 43 mattyNUFC // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:32 PM

    god, i love cisse

    but he is utter sh*t!!!

If we do not have a set shape (which we havent in a long while) he is lost more than anyone else

    jonas crap again

    colo suspect

santon santon (that’s more than a compliment)

anita proving these idiots on here wrong again

marveaux – VINDICATED, SON. another question mark over AP to add to HBA and santon’s exclusion last year

Bigi – subpar game. f****** incredible goal. almost brought the beer from my drunken eyes.

willo – i can defend when it’s ten men. still had some shocking moments

simmo – flashes of brilliance. flashes of an idiot. best game in a toon shirt though if that says anything. all we need for him to succeed is for an opposing RW/RM to be absent

Ba – eh. yeah, he got the two goals and he’s really our only threat on the forward line, but same old same old. good stuff here, trip over his feet there

tiote – improvement on his last outing for sure. i’d rather have the fire in his belly and pick up a card like tonight instead of hesitating and backing off and offering nothing whatsoever

i’m drunk, so stoked for the three points. Pards still loves protecting those leads even at home against ten men but hey, you gotta start somewhere. pretty pleased right now….maybe that’s the Unicum, who knows, but hey, who cares :D 3 points

oh right, fergi and sammy. get on back to the U21s, would ya?

  • 44 Nufc-83 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:33 PM

If somebody had said they were terrible i would have defended them as they coasted through the game and did what was required. However when i read somebody thinks willo was mom i find it extremely stupid when you have the likes of anita, marv Santon and that’s why i said no need to sing their praises for

  • 45 mattyNUFC // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:35 PM

    sorry that’s left. err….

  • 46 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:36 PM

    Nufc 83

If someone thinks Willo was Mom and can provide reasons as to why they think he was so, then they’re entitled to that opinion. I agree that there are others who are more deserving of it and personally I voted for Anita as I think he was excellent, but I wouldn’t say that Simmo and Willo simply coasted, they did their jobs well, not spectacularly but if they keep doing that then we will keep more clean sheets going forward. Considering that Wigan have some tricky players going forward I for one was impressed by our defence.

  • 47 croftus5678 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:36 PM

agree anita and marv have found there true possitions now
marv the perfect but different replacement for cabaye and anita just links dm and am together perfectly with tons of speed aggression and energy.
in the euro game i really hope ba is out and cisse in to see how cisse reacts because i dont know if ba plays so well it makes cisse look bad or play bad but something is wrong with the lad playing offside all the time and skying all his shots when we know what a class striker he really is.
i hope he just can not play with ba and if thats the case he will be a great backup striker if ba stays or main striker if ba goes and stick shola/campbell up with either.

  • 48 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:37 PM

I’m better than Simpson and I’m not even a right-back. I’ve seen Stam play for Twente and he always looked half decent at Wigan. He’s being utilsed in a new position at the moment.

Bigirimana did a few good things today, but I still prefer Abeid. At least we’re getting decent youngsters signed up.

Marveaux has to start every week until Cabaye gets back. If Marveaux does well, it will difficult for Yohan to get back into the team.

    Team for Fulham:

    Anita Perch Coloccini Santon

    Tiote Anita

    Obertan Marveaux Gutierrez/Shane

  • 49 Jonny // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:37 PM

    Ben Arfa-Marveaux-Cisse

    Bring on Fulham!

  • 50 Marty-Toon // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:37 PM

    You’re right Sammy ain’t ready so that’s why he’s gettin 15 mins
The same with Fergie,he’s played we’ll and got some assists but today had several good opportunities to deliver a decent ball and overhit them.
But again, these are the times to bleed these lads n get them ready.
It’s not like they’re 15 they need to take their chances now if they wanna be serious pro’s

  • 51 Jonny // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:37 PM

But is Pardrew too stubborn to drop Jonas?

  • 52 t00ntime // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:40 PM

i really dont get how people can slate cisse… when he started on the RW today he was pure class, he only started playing bad imo when he got put upfront with ba (just before ba came off) Dont know if any of you noticed but a good 10/15 mins atleast we were playing 4-4-2.

ba and cisse worked well together today, cisse did a job, yes he shouldnt of been offside and should of scored the 4th(when he was open but ran to early) but other than that he had a good game imo

  • 53 mattyNUFC // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:40 PM

wouldn’t matter if marvs scored 30 goals from now til feb. AP would put cabs in as soon as he’s fit

ok, hyperbole, but read the end of my last post :)

everyone just stop complaining. yeah it wasn’t pretty at times but you’ve gotta remember, wigan have a much, much better manager than us, and one who is not afraid to take chances (that could’ve made dividends tonight, btw) but it is what it is. we got what we wanted, sort of, with the new formation. let’s just build from there and see what happens at wigan!

    enjoy it, c*cks!

  • 54 t00ntime // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:41 PM

kets dont know what game you were watching but simmo was class today, still not great at going forward but thats what hba is for and the next 5 games are tough so he wont be going forward much anyway imo

  • 55 mattyNUFC // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:42 PM

god, that last one makes me sound like your run of the mill fence sitter. right. walking dead. i’m off. rick storms woodbury!

  • 56 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:43 PM

Still don’t agree that Martinez is a much much better manager than Pardew. He’s stubbornly stuck in his ways, if the passing football doesn’t work there is no plan B. They refused to put the ball in the box from FKs and corners despite being 3-0 down, I don’t know about you lot but there comes a time when lumping the ball in the box is a better option than passing it and if I was a Wigan fan certain aspects of that game would annoy me.

It’s all about the win, not about possession.

  • 57 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:43 PM

Bearsjeour make Simpson look amateurish. You can’t judge a player against 10 men. The only one who made a serious error was Williamson, but we got away with it. We wasn’t as good when Tiote and Santon came off.

  • 58 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:45 PM

Put the Willo and Simpson voodoo dolls down and breathe…

  • 59 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:45 PM

Emerson Boyce had a solid game. He’s also miles ahead of Simpson. Simspon gave the ball away on nearly every occasion. He crossing was slightly better today, but he still didn’t find his man.

  • 60 mattyNUFC // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:45 PM

too much tonight. don’t hold this against me.

  • 61 Nufc-83 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:45 PM

    Team when fully fit with 2 new signings in Jan;
new rb new cb Colo Santon
    anita cabaye

    hba marv

  • 62 NUFC_LEAZES END // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:47 PM

It’s great, for once its soo hard to pick a man of the match, Simpson was my personal favourite, santon, Anita, marveaux, Ba and willo all had a cracking game though, still a bit disappointed about the atmohere though :/ 4-3-3 once again has worked smoothly

  • 63 Marty-Toon // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:47 PM

Everything looks better when you’re playing against 10 men but credit to the lads we did well in the 1st half and the last half hour.
Gave them too much of the ball and too much time in the first 15 mins of the 2nd half but credit to Martinez
Willo did well apart from the sloppy pass to Collo early on and Simmo did well several attacks and defending

  • 64 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:48 PM

We are specs on a mote of a dust in the vast cosmic arena, it’s size much beyond the mind’s comprehension. We are here for a flicker of the time on this stage.

Lost somewhere between immensity and eternity, we sometimes lose sight of this and need to illuminate that impervious truth.

Enjoy yourselves, live long and prosper.

    C***s! :D

  • 65 croftus5678 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:48 PM

i honestly did not notice him on the wing and yep he did link well with ba and i’m not slating him its just he’s wasting a lot of chances and not concentrating on the line like he should so think a new translator is needed for him to tell him what he should be doing at times….(maybe its a language problem)

  • 66 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:49 PM

Off to bed now, need to be up bright and early for school.

  • 67 t00ntime // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:49 PM

i really dont know what game u were watching kets… his crossing was bad but losing the ball every time he had it?

simmo played well tonight and boyce is 33… by the time simmo is that age he will be alot better than boyce. tbh i dont even think boyce is better now

  • 68 mattyNUFC // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:50 PM

    yeah, you are correct

in america, that’s what they call football, too

ffs give wigan credit, man. they were never gonna pull it off, but they stuck to their game and had a fair few chances to do just that. you’re gonna sit there and tell me you didn’t feel a moment of panic when they were still pressing us a man down?

to say pards is a better manager than martinez is to say you’re not a drama queen who runs off the blog when you’re feelings are hurt :D

  • 69 Sazzer // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:50 PM

Who have stolen Cisse magic black boots?

Anyhow, there might be a Dembaship after all. Otherwise, I’m happy to see Anita and Marveux step it up.

    Was it you Bigi?

  • 70 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:50 PM

  • 71 Nufc-83 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:51 PM

lol simmo now getting mom shouts total joke think people are on the wind up to be honest. Name the reasons as to why simmo had a better game than anita marv ba. He clearly was not more influential.

  • 72 Nufc-83 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:52 PM

    Missed Santon out there.

  • 73 tequilamag // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:52 PM

Kets your obsessed, the one moment the defence looked bad was when Willo and Colo had a Bramble moment and Simmo took control and cleared

  • 74 t00ntime // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:52 PM

@croftus dont know whats wrong with cisse atm but ap says he is the same as last season in training, so i’m hoping any week soon we will see him hitting the target again.

the offside thing isnt new :S he was caught off side the most in the bundesliga the season before he came to us. dont know why he cant hold off his runs but hey if he gets his shooting boots back i wont care lol

  • 75 jimiley // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:52 PM

We showed tonite we are a top 6 team playing against relegation rubbish. We always play well when Jonas is at the heart of things. Jonas showed real class tonite. He is a stalwart of the team.

  • 76 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:53 PM

Where are all the people saying Anita can’t pass and is to lightweight now then ? . It was always going to take time and for some players like Collo and Enrique it took a full season. A midfield 3 of him, a back on form Tiote and injury free Cabaye might just see us play teams off the park in the near future.

  • 77 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:54 PM

Suppose whatever response I give is going to be futile as you disagree and won’t entertain the possibility of an alternative opinion but I’ll give it a go.

Wigan created nothing, absolutely zilch. They passed the ball around well enough at times but at other times they would needlessly give away possession. We pressed them hard and well in the first half and showed how poor they actually are under pressure. We were by far the better side and I’d have fancied us to beat them even with 11 v 11 but we’ll never know.

Martinez has been at Wigan for 4 years, have they moved forward? Nope. Pardew has been with us for 2 years. are we further forward than when he first took over? Most definitely.

In my opinion, you’re wrong but I’ll entertain the possibility of an alternative opinion. Go ahead :)

  • 78 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:54 PM

    @ jimiley

Jonas was anonymous IMO. Love the guy but Marveaux showed he is better in pretty much every department other than defending

  • 79 darrenfletcher88 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:55 PM

Impressed with Anita,Marv, santon, fergie has to be pushing for a start, the boy looks good, cisse and ba ran there socks off tonight,it’s not all about scoring goals they pressed so well,Anita man of the match the boy is getting better and better!!

  • 80 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:56 PM

Wigan won’t go down. They’ve got a good set of players and will definitely be strengthening in Jan. They had Shaun Maloney out today. We need to sign some players in Jan otherwise we’ll lose at Wigan 4-0 again. Wigan were better than us in the second half and they had 10 men.

  • 81 Nufc-83 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:56 PM

Lol now somebody clearly on the wind up is jimley

  • 82 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:56 PM

Cant believe we’ve lost 5 in a row disgraceful
    Pardew out
And as for that useless muppet demba ba what an idiot get shot of him january the selfish b@stard is costing us points every game he plays wigan fully desereved that win tonight martinez, possibly the best manager in the world? Set the team up fantastically by playing a back 3 vs a forward 3

Oh wait you mean we won? After challenging pards to change it he did? And it worked? And marv started? And demba scored his 10th goal of the season? Nah don’t believe relegation for us

hehe true true waiting for euro now cisse lone striker for the hatrick and maybe cambell on 75 mins for a goal to boot :-)
    (well it is xmas)

  • 85 jimiley // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:58 PM

Cisse and Ba are like two ships passing in the night. They do not link up together. They are two individuals who seem intent on passing to each other only when there is no other option. This combo does not work and weakens the team.

  • 86 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:58 PM

Marveaux’s not a defender. He will impress if he gets the game time. Him and Anita are very good at keeping possession. I think Marveaux, Anita and Tiote will be a good combination in the middle against Fulham.

  • 87 darrenfletcher88 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:59 PM

Ok pal,did I see the play for the pen??they are such hard grafters for the team!! They will come good I have no doubt

  • 88 Nufc-83 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:59 PM

    Croftus Campbell is clearly injured

  • 89 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:00 PM

Marveuax was my man of the match with Anita a close second. Die? That’s a bit extreme. Are you ok in the head?

  • 91 croftus5678 // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:02 PM

  • 92 manxpie // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:02 PM

is it just me that in the last two games that jonas has played that the whole team has played better!??
i believe with him n collo in the team there’s a hell of a lot off confidence for the rest of the players!

  • 93 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:03 PM

Haha people’s giving Simpson the motm award deliberately as an attempt to slash me off.

The sooner Simpson, Williamson, Gosling and Tavernier leave the better. You’ll notice that I’ll be free of criticism.

  • 94 manxpie // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:05 PM

and anyone else notice that when we were 2-0 up it took a while for catchy to make any comment and he still managed a negative!!

  • 95 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:05 PM

Yes his work rate is severely under rated he’s an engine for us

Ba’s through ball for cisse was fantastic just think cisse needs to get in those channels more

  • 96 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:07 PM

    Oh and catchy in norway
Stam? Best player on the pitch? F*uck off!!!!
    Miserable git

  • 97 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:09 PM

Simmo saved colo from a proper squeaky bum moment bout 15 mins in tbf

Also so glad to see the real tiote back not that bloke who’s been pretending to be tiote for the last few games ;)

  • 98 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:10 PM

The stand out players today were:

We can’t get too carried away. We probably would’ve lost if Wigan had 10 men. Night.

  • 99 manxpie // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:15 PM

tads i’m thinking jmiley is a wum with the comments he’s posted recently!
but catchy saying jonas should be dropped or not play again for this club again is insane and the last 2 games when he’s fit again we’ve looked a different team and i think he brings a confidence to the team that has come over from last year and THAT WE CERTAINLY NEED RIGHT NOW!

  • 100 Nufc-83 // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:20 PM

Jonas was the worst newcastle performer tonight what you on about manpixie

  • 101 santonthenewmaldini // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:21 PM

They did go down to Ten men yes but that was because of our play the 1 touch pass and move for the build up to the foul was fantastic Anita is starting to stamp his class on the team seems like he is getting used to the premier league

Loved how every time it looked like we were going to go long Anita or Marveux would come back and collect the ball and keep it moving

Simpson and Willo had solid games but thats all we need them to do give 100% and pass to a better player and they did that tonight and it worked for us

There was moments of magic from Marveux that got me off the sofa he needs a decent run in the team like the next 5 or 6 games yes he might make mistakes but the boy has got something special at times the way he glides past players

If Ba and Santon are injured for Fulham we should replace Santon with Fergy and Ba with Arfa and also replace Jonas with Bigi or Perch

I think Ferguson again needs a run in the team if Santon is injured he could make the left back slot his own and then when Santon comes back he could take the right back slot??

Apart from the Bordeux game its the 1st game in the league where i was entertained its a start lets hope hoofball is a thing of the past !!!

  • 102 ONLINE GUY // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:21 PM

Last week via this site I was advocating starting with Marvo…thought he could run at the oppo through the center..have a pop or draw the foul and said so on here. . It was plain to see he would disrupt any defence .. attack the box ..I don’t mean from the flanks either ..Marvo should run straight at them center .. .all noted last week by this here tactical genius …

It was exactly like that this evening .

  • 103 manxpie // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:21 PM

yeah tads tiote looked alot sharper tonight good to see and i didn’t see any 1 praise willo 2nite either who i seen dominate the air at the back and some nice interceptions but still gets dogs abuse
anita for me was immense and i didn’t realise how rapid he was! great touch and a great football mind can’t wait till he’s properly settled

  • 104 beddersmag // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:22 PM

Thought simpson was pretty much faultless tonight like kets. Solid defender be shame to lose him imo. Marv two amazing runs and i even saw him win a header an arl- wow! We needed the rub of the green with the sending off but lets just hope the momentum has shifted now because this run of fixtures in Dec is scary with our injuries. Hate to say it but wel do very well to retain our league position until jan. Thank goodness we won

  • 105 manxpie // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:25 PM

manxpixie!!? ok nufcu@t if you read my comment properly you might understand what i was saying but i’m guessing proberly not!!

  • 106 croftus5678 // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:26 PM

    rofl loving the catchy comments

you could be right there ..i dont think he’s the best footballer in the world only his ability to win fouls and his workrate seem t stand out about him but i suppose he does bring confidence to them aswell love to see him tried at rb/lb for a run of games though in honesty

  • 107 boater // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:26 PM

Anita – wow. Fantastic performance from him – real classy first touch and immense range of passing. Keeps the ball moving really well.. starting to show his pedigree now. Marveaux was quality too.. the fluidity was back in midfield – that was the most pleasing aspect. Nice shape and with technical players such as those two who think and see gaps quicker than the opposition – it’s good for the attack. Bigi’s cameo was very encouraging too.. looked like the real deal.

Shouldn’t get carried away – but three points were vital however they came, and nice the players pulling together and working hard off the ball again to give options.

  • 108 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:27 PM

  • 109 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:33 PM

Tbh not sure about fergie at LB wigan definatly targeted that side when santon went off he was out if position a fair bit which lead to colo coming across far to much to cover the boy needs to get his head up when playing instead of running round looking at his feet like!

  • 110 Novocastrian66 // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:37 PM

    Dec 03 – 11:26 PM
Have to agree with you Anita was my MOM. Always linking up. Giving and going, always available. Top draw.

  • 111 NUFC STEVE // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:37 PM

I’ll admit it was a “good” performance tonight and for sure pardew won’t get us relegated but compare him to his counterpart Martinez. Wigan have much inferior players like Stam and Boyce yet there was only one team out there that looked 100% comfortable on the ball and playing out from the back. Martinez has a good formation, tactics and system compared to pardew and is by far a better coach. Fulham will outplay us next week ( unless Cisse is dropped) and everyone will be back to PARDEW OUT.

  • 112 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:39 PM

Wigan looked 100% playing from the back? What match were you watching? Whenever we pressed them high up the pitch they nearly always lost the ball so what are you talking about?

  • 113 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:40 PM

Aye anita was absolutely phenomenal tonight he chased everything and completly controlled the tempo of the game and seems to have a great understanding with marv and ba cos them 3 were linking up all night brilliantly
Marv also had a cracker tonight fair play to him for taking the opportunity

  • 116 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:45 PM

    Nufc steve
Yeah righto wigan looked about as comfortable as mike ashley in a reliant robin we pushed them in there half for about 80% of the game
As for martinez who goes to an away game looks at the line up we’d put out and goes with 3 at the back? Then brings on a CM instead of the cb he had on the bench? Aye tactical genius

  • 117 Catchy In Straight Jacket // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:45 PM

Ruddy if we had of lost you were getting nailed to the nearest fence. So you owe Pards & the lads a drink.

  • 118 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:48 PM

Wigan had 1 shot on goal……..

  • 119 stuart no9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:49 PM

i think a lot of people getting carried away with this win . yeah they got the points, but 2nd half wasnt great. it looked like pards had closed shop at 2-o. with 11 v 10 why couldnt we come out and get more goals instead of inviting trouble. we have a GD of -4 not great , so to not attack in the 2nd half like the first was was a tactical error. GD could just keep us up at the end of season. we have now fulham-man-city- man u- arsenal coming up , we should be scoring as many as possible when we can, coz wigan is the easiest game we are going to have in a long time.

  • 120 Catchy In Straight Jacket // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:52 PM

Hard game to judge, they were the better team until the red card & pen. I didn’t think it was a pen to be fair. Would of been gutted if that was given against us.
But all in all a very welcome 3 points.

  • 121 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:52 PM

Don’t be so presumptuous thinking I’d allow you to nail me, you haven’t even asked me on a date yet.

  • 122 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:53 PM

    Catchy I S J

You mean Jiz would have been nailed to the nearest fence, spot the difference ;)

But for 5 mins in the first half and 10 mins in the second half Wigan barely had the ball in our half, let alone trouble our goal so if some people are getting carried away I think it may be you with your negativity.

We won 3-0, if we had scored 4 you would have asked why we didn’t score 5, the same if we scored 5 you’d have asked we didn’t score 6. What’s your problem? We rode the game out and dominated them, 10 men or not that was a very good performance.

  • 123 Carryingcoals // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:54 PM

kets, I like to give a fair account of both sets of players after the game but what you do is you exaggerate the performances of opposition players to make the players on our team that you dislike seem poorer than they were.

    you’re a broken record maaaaaaaaaaan!

    My thoughts:

(close with the 2-0 prediction tads, glad it turned out to be easier than it could well have been)

I’m savouring this victory though, very happy!

  • 124 manxpie // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:55 PM

nufc steve but can’t you understand that with the loosing streak we’ve had wigan have HAD to play like that for the last four seasons!
and tads i know and they show there colours on here continuously but i’m not gonna name any names :)

  • 125 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:58 PM

We did go out in the second half and get mire goals bigi’s screamer?
We, an extremly out of form team have just beaten a team who are arguably in the best form they have ever been in and have got points from spuds arsenal and city, and nit just beaten them but beaten them well we completly limited them and if cisse was on the same form as ba we would of won that by 4 or 5

  • 126 Blaydon-Toon // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:58 PM

Well back at hotel after drinks celerbrating a Newcastle win … Long 5/6 hour trip home but all worth while ! Thought Anita was immense and previously said he would Marv was excellent when in possesion wish we had gone for it a bit more with Wigan down to 10 men Guti should have made way for Sammy earlier ! Simpson was solid defensively but definitely lacks any attacking threat !

  • 127 Catchy In Straight Jacket // Dec 3, 2012 at 11:58 PM

I also think a lot of people are fooled by Jonas because he runs around a lot. His distrbution off the ball is terrible at times & slows down are attacks a lot. I dont think we can play the passing game, with the likes of Jonas, Willo, Simmo etc in the team. But a very nice 3 points. :-)

  • 128 mattyNUFC // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:00 AM

    ah just enjoy it

yeah, without a doubt pards ‘closed down shop’

no one can deny before their CH got sent off they looked the more dangerous. as some who doesn’t believe in pards tactics i’m inclined to say it would have been a different match 11 v 11 but hey, it is what it is. we got the three points we needed

am i more inclined to prove myself right over pards or would i rather keep this current crop of players here, an indubitably better team than we’ve had in the last decade, under any circumstance? you’re damn right i’d rather have this team we have and hope pards can fix it on his own. this squad we have is amazing. it wasn’t beautiful tonight, it wasn’t even close to showcase, but i’ll take it. we need wins but without them we stand a fair chance of shipping out a lot of our ‘purples’ (ie ba, HBA, cabaye, marvs, santon) within the next two windows

it may be subtle. it may not be what many of us want or expect, but it’s enough. big picture here, folks. we can talk all we want about how good our team is, how sh*t pards is, but it doesnt make any difference if our top, top players want out. this proves a bandaid on a gaping wound that can very much be healed over the next few matches

Great result tonight, but please was anybody that is waxing lyrical about the performance tonight at the game,we were hardly convincing a d the quiet crowd exempified that, hopefully a win should give them enough confidence to start believing in themselves which I think so far has been lacking.

  • 135 NUFC STEVE // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:16 AM

Wigan weren’t as comfortable coming out from the back cos the had 10 f*****g men or did we forget. If it was us down to 10 Wigan would have passed the balls off us and had up on 70% poss. Not a meagerly 55%!!!
Regarding your dopey comment about martinez sub. Did u watch the second half? The sub was perfect they were the better team in the second half and our goal was against the run of play

  • 136 Jail for Ashley // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:19 AM

We were only comfortable after the sending off and penalty,Krul pulled off an amazing save that got the crowd jittery, and ccorrect me if Important wrong but there was only 43 000 there tonight which in my belief would have been nearer 50 000 if we had have spent some money in the summer.

  • 137 NUFC STEVE // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:19 AM

Martinez sub was perfect- they were better team in second half. If we were down to 10 we would have been passed off the pitch!!! Wigan would have had 70-80% poss not 55%!!!????

  • 138 manxpie // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:38 AM

wll jail thats all what if? i’m talkin about what happend on the pitch and our performance tonight was far better than in recent games we were bound to be nervous and i thought we started well and that was there 1 and only shot on target but reading some of the comments on hear the second half our goal was peppered from the 45th minute to the 90th minute!
we played much much better tonjght and for me thats what i was looking for and now on to the next game with hopefully more confidence

I reackon if we let Ba and Simmo go for around 8m and get Remy and Debuchy/Peiters or any other quality FB in jan for around 15m i think that would be good business…

What id give for this to happen!

Good victory today and i think we played a lot better.

Would like to see this on a consistant basis and playing higher up the pitch because thats where we are at our best!

  • 142 cockneymagpie90 // Dec 4, 2012 at 2:10 AM

Ba going wouldnt be a disaster, it would be a stepping stone and to me it seems like the best time to leave so Cisse can take over as a lone striker and Remy in the preffered LW with bags of pace and creativity. Cisse would get so many oppotunities to score we would be banging them in!

Oh and Simmo has done a good job for us but wr need someone to over lap Remy and help him out down the wing. Dont get me wrong i like Simmo and think hes a great defender but hes not the best man up that wing.

  • 143 Jamiemac // Dec 4, 2012 at 2:24 AM
