Sylvain Marveaux Starts Against Wigan

Sylvain Marveaux has been given a starting role as Newcastle entertain Wigan Athletic tonight in the Barclays Premier League – a vital game for the Magpies.

Sylvain is preferred to Shane Ferguson and Sammy Ameobi and both Ameobi brothers are on the bench.

It seems that Cisse may be playing in a withdrawn role with Demba Ba up front – and it’s described as a 4-2-3-1 formation – which sounds over complex to us – we think it’s really a 4-2-1-2-1 formation – how about a modified 4-5-1 to keep it simple.

The only real surprise in the team is Marveaux starting, and Cheick Tiote and Vurnon Anita have an important roles to play tonight in central midfield, where we haven’t been too dominant this season – maybe that will change tonight – we hope that changes tonight.

This is an important game for Newcastle and we need a win – it’s as simple as that.

A win and we’ll be ecstatic – a draw and we’ll be OK – a defeat would be devastating.

Howay The Lads!!!!!

Teams:

Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; Vurnon Anita, Cheick Tiote; Papiss Cisse, Sylvain Marveaux, Jonas Gutierrez; Demba Ba

Never called you a neggar “son” 😛 don’t like throwing that term around.

I want to see good results, if the performance matches then I am even happier but we need points, but it is more gracious than a lot of other posters so I commend you for commending Pards haha

    Howay the lads.
I like the lineup, not happy with Jonas starting, but not much options with that sort of midfield.
Could place him alongside Tiote tho, pushing Anita up. Anita has shown to be an offensive threat imo.

Hmm. Fair play on this apparent lineup.

It remains to be seen if we panic back to 4-4-2 or not. It’d be all too easy to switch.

Looks promising. If Marveaux starts in the #10 role, then he couldn’t have an easier game to try and make an impression. Hopefully he shows us what we’ve been hoping for since he signed!

Have to laugh when people say ‘drop Ba if he won’t sign new contract’

Did people say that about colo last year or Shearer when he was here!? Every player has the right to get the best deal they can. You don’t just accept the first offer someone makes you, it’s called negotiating. Why would Ba stay here for 40/50k when he could go to Liverpool etc for 70/80k.

Also find it hilarious that some people say drop him and play Ranger/Campbell……….muppets

Off to match now to SUPPORT the team

Hope Ba is wide left and not Cisse,

Commend Pardew on trying to change it hope Jonas is sitting with Tiote. Line up like below hopefully

    Krul
    Simpson Willo Collo Santon
    Tiote Jonas
    Marveuax Anita Ba
    Cisse

Personally would have put Sammy in for Ba but hey ho its at least a little different, now what we need is some energy.

    Catchy

There is just no winning with you is there?

You ask why certain people call you negative as all you want is good football, perhaps if you spent less time criticising everything and more time shutting the hell up and supporting the team then you wouldn’t get such a raw deal.

You deserve it though to be be fair.

    @matty
Perch is an odd one. He plays well when closer to good players, not so good when on his own.
Poor positional especially, at RB, with his pace and tackling ability he should be better.
When at DM he gets to roam and follow the ball without as much marking. And his pace and tackling ability makes him really good there.
Also next to Collo, he looks like a calm and collected defender, but he needs to be given orders at times for his position.

Sometimes you’re so over-the-top in your criticism that it hard to listen to the rest of your actual well reasoned points.

We’ve got a 4-2-3-1, with Marv where he wants to play, and Anita where he wants to play.

Anita isn’t exactly a defensive midfielder – he’s been our most creative player lately!

I admit Jonas on the wing is a very underwhelming prospect, but hopefully Santon continues his form of late, he’s been top top class.

Put Ranger on instead of Gutierrez and inject some pace in the side, switch at half if need be.

Cisse needs to be central with Ba out wide – he hates it but is so much better than Cisse in that position.

Hope Cisse can build on his last goal and end this bad spell!

So not only are you negative, but you’re also insulting and just an all round unpleasant person.

You provide no actual discussion, just repetitive drivel so add boring to that list. I support my team, every player who wears the black and white and I fully support the manager too.

Does that mean that I want to fellate them? If that’s your view on things it’s no wonder you don’t support the team.

we can all see that jonas is not the player he was,,

he is not a winger for sure now

    he is not an DMC

in both those spots id chose bigi or fergy all day every day,, because they both offer that something more than jst running

    tequila, dannyo

perch is fine at DCM, but doesn’t offer much at all going forward. on form of all 4 CHs, i’d have colo and perch 10 times out of 10. Perch is competent and comfortable next Colo.

    check

wouldn’t want that line-up at all. don’t like guti starting but is he a better option that fergi or sammy? ha, don’t even bother answering, no comparison.

should look (in my mind and hope i’m right) like this:

    ………anita…..tiote………
    ………….sylvain…………
    cisse…………………guti..
    …………..ba………………

though i’d personally switch ba and cisse around but pards seems to think it was a masterstroke to put cisse out wide last week so don’t expect it that way

just because anita has been our most creative player doesn’t mean he isn’t and wasn’t a CDM. i think it says more about recent selections than anything else.

I hope AP has the boys ready for this one and we play to our strengths. it’s gotta be anita and tiote in the back and marvs in front of them. if it’s guti, well, anyone’s guess about the result. if guti is LW, i just hope to god he stays put there. ran around like a complete idiot last game.
