Sylvain Marveaux Starts Against Wigan

7:04 pm, Monday, December 3rd, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 434 Comments

Sylvain Marveaux has been given a starting role as Newcastle entertain Wigan Athletic tonight in the Barclays Premier League – a vital game for the Magpies.

Sylvain is preferred to Shane Ferguson and Sammy Ameobi and both Ameobi brothers are on the bench.

It seems that Cisse may be playing in a withdrawn role with Demba Ba up front – and it’s described as a 4-2-3-1 formation – which sounds over complex to us – we think it’s really a 4-2-1-2-1 formation – how about a modified 4-5-1 to keep it simple.

The only real surprise in the team is Marveaux starting, and Cheick Tiote and Vurnon Anita have an important roles to play tonight in central midfield, where we haven’t been too dominant this season – maybe that will change tonight – we hope that changes tonight.

This is an important game for Newcastle and we need a win – it’s as simple as that.

A win and we’ll be ecstatic – a draw and we’ll be OK – a defeat would be devastating.

Howay The Lads!!!!!

Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; Vurnon Anita, Cheick Tiote; Papiss Cisse, Sylvain Marveaux, Jonas Gutierrez; Demba Ba

Come on Newcastle. Get a win and shut up the little whining kids on here

  • 2 mattyNUFC // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:06 PM

    Ruddy

it was more than a warranted criticism of Pardew

and here, for you on record, I commend AP for this selection and line-up. good now? no more trolling and waiting? we’re not ‘neggars’, son, we just want to see some good football, win, lose or draw!! :D

  • 3 Blaydon-Toon // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:06 PM

    Come on the toon !

  • 4 Spellcheck // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:07 PM

Come on Newcastle, nothin but 3pts will do. Hope Marveuax can take his chance.HWTL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 5 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:08 PM

    Matty

Never called you a neggar “son” :P don’t like throwing that term around.

I want to see good results, if the performance matches then I am even happier but we need points, but it is more gracious than a lot of other posters so I commend you for commending Pards haha

  • 6 Dannyo // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:08 PM

    Howay the lads.
I like the lineup, not happy with Jonas starting, but not much options with that sort of midfield.
Could place him alongside Tiote tho, pushing Anita up. Anita has shown to be an offensive threat imo.

    3 dmc again

    not holding my breath

  • 8 Thump // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:09 PM

Almost regret not going to the match. Oh well.

  • 9 mattyNUFC // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:09 PM

    tequila, last thread

fair enough. Perch is an even worse RB than dannyboy, though i’d have him at CH over willo any day

  • 10 nufc13789 // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:09 PM

Good lineup come on the toon!

  • 11 ToonDownSouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:09 PM

Hmm. Fair play on this apparent lineup.

It remains to be seen if we panic back to 4-4-2 or not. It’d be all too easy to switch.

Looks promising. If Marveaux starts in the #10 role, then he couldn’t have an easier game to try and make an impression. Hopefully he shows us what we’ve been hoping for since he signed!

  • 12 roshan MAGPIE // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:10 PM

common nufc its been a while since the last win in the league even forgot how it felt to see nufc win a game in the league

  • 13 kingkev9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:10 PM

Have to laugh when people say ‘drop Ba if he won’t sign new contract’

Did people say that about colo last year or Shearer when he was here!? Every player has the right to get the best deal they can. You don’t just accept the first offer someone makes you, it’s called negotiating. Why would Ba stay here for 40/50k when he could go to Liverpool etc for 70/80k.

Also find it hilarious that some people say drop him and play Ranger/Campbell……….muppets

Off to match now to SUPPORT the team

  • 14 check the toastie // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:10 PM

Hope Ba is wide left and not Cisse,

Commend Pardew on trying to change it hope Jonas is sitting with Tiote. Line up like below hopefully

    Krul
    Simpson Willo Collo Santon
    Tiote Jonas
    Marveuax Anita Ba
    Cisse

Personally would have put Sammy in for Ba but hey ho its at least a little different, now what we need is some energy.

  • 15 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:10 PM

    Catchy

There is just no winning with you is there?

You ask why certain people call you negative as all you want is good football, perhaps if you spent less time criticising everything and more time shutting the hell up and supporting the team then you wouldn’t get such a raw deal.

You deserve it though to be be fair.

  • 16 catchy in norway // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:11 PM

jonas does not deserve to start,,

  • 17 tequilamag // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:11 PM

Check I would agree he is a better player than Willo but a little short for a CB for my liking.

  • 18 alex84 // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:11 PM

F…the negative Im fully behind the lads all the way, good luck to Marv as well, take your chance son!!

  • 19 roshan MAGPIE // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:11 PM

any idea what our formation is

  • 20 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:12 PM

    Roshan

    4-2-3-1 apparently

  • 21 BelfastMagpie // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:12 PM

It would be a bit of a downer, if the match kicks off and we line up 4-4-2. Lol

  • 22 Dannyo // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:12 PM

    @matty
Perch is an odd one. He plays well when closer to good players, not so good when on his own.
Poor positional especially, at RB, with his pace and tackling ability he should be better.
When at DM he gets to roam and follow the ball without as much marking. And his pace and tackling ability makes him really good there.
Also next to Collo, he looks like a calm and collected defender, but he needs to be given orders at times for his position.

  • 23 catchy in norway // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:12 PM

go and join the q to blow pardew will ya,

my impression, and i’m hope i’m correct, is that marvs is our ACM

he just had an interview today with ESPN saying he’s an ACM, not a winger and he wants a go there

  • 27 geordie157 // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:15 PM

Decent line up, i’d still like to see Tav at right back for a run of games.

  • 28 catchy in norway // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:15 PM

    matty im all for that

what he wants and what pards wants are 2 different things though

im sure HBA10 wants to be ACM too

  • 29 ToonDownSouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:15 PM

    catchy

Sometimes you’re so over-the-top in your criticism that it hard to listen to the rest of your actual well reasoned points.

We’ve got a 4-2-3-1, with Marv where he wants to play, and Anita where he wants to play.

Anita isn’t exactly a defensive midfielder – he’s been our most creative player lately!

I admit Jonas on the wing is a very underwhelming prospect, but hopefully Santon continues his form of late, he’s been top top class.

  • 30 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:15 PM

Can’t believe we’re still selecting Simpson and Williamson. That’s 3 points lost straight away.

  • 31 sheikkra // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:16 PM

Put Ranger on instead of Gutierrez and inject some pace in the side, switch at half if need be.

Cisse needs to be central with Ba out wide – he hates it but is so much better than Cisse in that position.

Hope Cisse can build on his last goal and end this bad spell!

  • 32 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:17 PM

    Catchy

So not only are you negative, but you’re also insulting and just an all round unpleasant person.

You provide no actual discussion, just repetitive drivel so add boring to that list. I support my team, every player who wears the black and white and I fully support the manager too.

Does that mean that I want to fellate them? If that’s your view on things it’s no wonder you don’t support the team.

  • 33 tequilamag // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:17 PM

2 Poss outcomes, we win and Catchy claims credit for Pardew finally seeing sense or we lose and Pardew is clueless.

  • 34 catchy in norway // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:18 PM

    ToonDownSouth

    but thats just the point,,

we can all see that jonas is not the player he was,,

he is not a winger for sure now

    he is not an DMC

in both those spots id chose bigi or fergy all day every day,, because they both offer that something more than jst running

  • 35 mattyNUFC // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:18 PM

    tequila, dannyo

perch is fine at DCM, but doesn’t offer much at all going forward. on form of all 4 CHs, i’d have colo and perch 10 times out of 10. Perch is competent and comfortable next Colo.

    check

wouldn’t want that line-up at all. don’t like guti starting but is he a better option that fergi or sammy? ha, don’t even bother answering, no comparison.

should look (in my mind and hope i’m right) like this:

    ………anita…..tiote………
    ………….sylvain…………
    cisse…………………guti..
    …………..ba………………

though i’d personally switch ba and cisse around but pards seems to think it was a masterstroke to put cisse out wide last week so don’t expect it that way

  • 36 mattnufc // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:18 PM

@Kets, what’s worse is we have only one other senior defender, with a healthy total of 1 appearances.

  • 37 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:18 PM

    Tequila

Third possible outcome, we win and he gives Pardew no credit at all for it.

  • 38 Dannyo // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:20 PM

    Lee Ryder ?@lee_ryder
Worth noting Marveaux last injury free season in 2009/10 resulted in 35 appearances, 10 goals and five assists . #nufc

    Bring it Marv!!

  • 39 mattyNUFC // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:21 PM

    TDS

just because anita has been our most creative player doesn’t mean he isn’t and wasn’t a CDM. i think it says more about recent selections than anything else.

I hope AP has the boys ready for this one and we play to our strengths. it’s gotta be anita and tiote in the back and marvs in front of them. if it’s guti, well, anyone’s guess about the result. if guti is LW, i just hope to god he stays put there. ran around like a complete idiot last game.

  • 40 north_country_boy // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:22 PM

We are bound to win with a 4 – 23 – 1 formation Ed – although the centre of the park might be a bit crowded!

  • 41 jimmysmith // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:22 PM

Cisse in the hole, talk about hammering a square peg…………..he’s a fugen striker, that’s it…….enough already!

Sell Ba, buy a top winger, and be done with it for crying out loud.

    well it isnt gona happen

id have fergy good and tav in the team,,

jonas simpson andd willamson have no futures at the club, id rather go with the kids and let them make mistakes

at least he would have a good reason,,

instead,, its gona be,, we was poor tonight,, if im honest we never got our passing going until they scored,,

and you know we carnt come back from a goal down, its not possible

make no mistakes, there a good side,, not many will take points of them

we are down to the bare bones,,

but we will dust ourselfs off

and pick the same players again at the weekend

    to make the same mistakes

It’s called playing your hand with the cards you’re dealt with. While we all love the thought of having a world class LW but we don’t at the moment so we have to make do.

  • 44 studsy // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:24 PM

Kets – who would you play in place of simmo and willo in tonight’s match then?

  • 45 tequilamag // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:26 PM

This 4231 looks very much like a 442 to me. Whether it`s Ba or Cisse who is playing deeper I don`t know but I would expect Jonas and Marv to work the flanks.

  • 46 catchy in norway // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:27 PM

  • 51 tequilamag // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:29 PM

Caychy Good is on loan , Tav has only played 365 mins in the PL and we let 2 goals in. Fergie or Marv ? coin toss for me.Jonas is still worth his place for me.

    Ruddy Marveaux-lous

thats so full of shit,, they may not be world class, but both sammy and fergy are better bets at left wing,, and you know it

by playing jonas , it means one thing,, he will change the formation, at some point and jonas will go from being left wing to lb, then he may go right wing, and finish the game as a DMC

    it happens every week

Well due to a stinkin’ cold I cant make it tonight, sent my 2 lads off there and my bro-in-law (the one I fitted a kitchen for btw ha ha) gets my ticket. I think we will win.

Remains to be seen if anyone can keep a couple of their defenders busy in the way HBA does. Maybe marveaux can step I dunno. If Anita doesnt get rooted back and him and Marv can get something going we may get a result. I am going for the home win tonight so its MNF for me and a couple of Jura’s down me neck.

    Ranger, Cisse, Ba

Whether or not I am in the minority who has not jumped on the Jonas scapegoat bandwagon or not is irrelevant. Its my opinion.

  • 63 Rotonda heights // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:36 PM

Think the 4231 may be a bit of a con to say I tried that system and it wasn’t 442, but I don’t buy Cisse as a midfielder!!! He’s a natural poacher nothing else.

Why not have that formation and play an actual midfielder in that position or has Ba agreed to go back out left? If he has, then fair play the penny finally dropped the team is more important than 1 single player.

    Ruddy
Clearly catchy does as everyone else on here does support the team, but not the manager. The 2 aren’t mutually exclusive.

  • 64 ochytoon // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:37 PM

well thats where me and you think different

what he is trying isnt working at all, so i think fresh faces is what is needed,

jonas is not to blame, its pardew, he has killed his game,
jonas was never great at getting the ball in,, his main contribution was winning free kicks around the box,,

he was an option to run down the left, now we get nothing feom where pardew deploys him

  • 69 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:39 PM

  • 82 Tsunki // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:48 PM

I dont agree this is the time to put ‘fresh’ faces – They may be fresh but that could also be called ‘green’. The cold reality is its the senior players who add stability to the core of the team, which is why Jonas for one needs to be on,. Whether you think he has a product or not, he relieves pressure in many areas, especially for those who are ‘fresh’ faces. I think the key to our performance tonight is the present team shape having a run of matches and now starting to come together. It started to look promising at Stoke. BUT we still need Cabs and HBA back asap. Cabs has been carrying one for a while for me, but even under par he is still a key team member.

disagree with just about everything you said there :)

a misfiring player deserves to be on? nah, but he’s definitely better than fergie and sammy, i’ll give ya that. relieves pressure? more like invites it

and now cabs poor form is down to this hamstring or abdomen or whatever? don’t buy that either. he’s always been rubbish, this season and last, when he’s a deep lying mid. not his fault, mind

  • 86 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Dec 3, 2012 at 7:53 PM

Jonas on the wing – Oh Dear!!

  • 97 Tsunki // Dec 3, 2012 at 8:01 PM

Matty – so you dont agree its suicide to put fresh or rather largely untested youngsters who have little o no PL first team game time? Ok then ha ha.

I didnt say Cabs has been in great form all the time, and yes he turns into a different player when in his natural forward-looking role. I just suspect his poorer showing this year has maybe been down to carrying a niggle, I can imagine the coaching staff nursing it hoping it will carry through but didnt work out.

I back Jonas for one because his work usually pays dividends in plugging critical gaps in front of defence. Second, who on earth would we put on instead of him?

Third, I beta wigan 3-1 last night with exactly this team, Ba 2 Jonas 1. There you go.

  • 232 ToonDownSouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 8:52 PM

I know it’s against 10 men, but hopefully this will show Pardew and the players that they CAN play good passing football.

None of us care if they mix it up a bit from time to time, of course, but lately it’s been turgid.

The only danger has come from Williamson, Colo and Tiote trying to overplay – which appears all too common lately, especially Tiote.

The pressing from the front is what you get with a 3 pronged attack – especially when we have three CM’s willing to run all day long.

It’s great to see Marveaux working so so hard as well. You can tell he wants to impress, and that’s really pleasing seeing as how he’s been shut out for months now.

  • 233 Spellcheck // Dec 3, 2012 at 8:53 PM

  • 234 BartZ // Dec 3, 2012 at 8:53 PM

    @Check

Regardless of if we re playing against 10men we are still pressing them and showing like the players are actually wanting it unlike previous. Just giving credit where its due and on that first half it may not have been amazing n Wigan may have been poor but we are showing we want it a hell of a lot more than previous games.

I thought Tiote was very good for a 25 minute spell actually lol. After his first final warning, and before his second final warning.

  • 237 Beattie25 // Dec 3, 2012 at 8:55 PM

    I’m calling it.

Pardew to tell the guys to keep it tight and to substitute Marveaux for Bigi

  • 238 Slank // Dec 3, 2012 at 8:56 PM

Pardew has clearly noted how Wigan like to play around at the back and has our players working really hard and closing them down.

Very impressed with Ba and Cisse working really hard.

Anita has been excellent and Marveaux has been good too. How I wish we had a right back as good as Santon who has been great again.

  • 239 woolerbill // Dec 3, 2012 at 8:56 PM

OK we are two up against ten men but the last ten minutes we were standing around, what should we do, I can see wig an getting back into this.

  • 240 Offkey // Dec 3, 2012 at 8:57 PM

I’m chuffed with that, seems there are still ‘issues’ but nevertheless, very enjoyable seeing us attack.

  • 244 Slank // Dec 3, 2012 at 8:59 PM

    Beattie @ 236

Why would you want to take a forward going forward (Marveaux) for a defensive midfielder (Bigi) when we are two up and they have only ten men and will start to tire?

  • 245 JTOONJ // Dec 3, 2012 at 8:59 PM

  • 248 alex84 // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:00 PM

Anita has been outstanding, his one touch passing and movement off the ball is very good.
Santon going forward is a joy to watch.

Marv is so comfortable on the ball and Tiote is looking his old self.

    Ba is a goal machine!

  • 249 Rotonda heights // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:00 PM

Ok we got a massive break, but this is the best we’ve played all season. It’s terrific, looks like 433 and not a hoof in sight even from Willo and Simmo.

Love the way Anita knits it altogether and Marveaux makes things happen. Why have we dicked around all season when we can play like this? All those games hoofing it in 442, when we can play like this. WHY??

  • 250 89Norcal // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:01 PM

I’m enjoy watching Simmo hush his doubters. Him and Stanton have really stepped up.

  • 251 BartZ // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:01 PM

    @ woolerbill

I can see Wigan giving it everything as they have nout to loose now. Hopefully we can maintain that pressure though and stop them from playing. Would be good to see the the youngsters get a bit of playing time if we can afford to do that.

  • 255 Dannyo // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:01 PM

    @JTOONJ
Actually, out of all Simmos crosses, only one hit a good area.
Done well defensivly tho, bailed out Willo one or two times.

  • 256 Slank // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:01 PM

    Toon @ 240

We don’t need Debuchy. We already have a great right back playing as an ersatz left back.

We need a left footed left back with Santon on the right where he belongs.

  • 257 Tsunki // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:01 PM

I think if wigan had 11 on the pitch we would still be having at them. The signs have been there of late, looks like Anita is getting right into it before their man was sent off. I really really hope this is the all-new fixed and working Marv. We need a confidence boosting slaughter so come on lads get another 3!!

  • 258 davis_toons // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:01 PM

The Only Good Passing Football we play was during (30mins). It will be hard to pass better then WiGAN on a better day.

  • 259 ToonDownSouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:02 PM

    Rotonda

There were hoofs at the start of the match, but hopefully this will give them both the confidence to believe that they don’t have to do it.

The same applies to AP, moreso than anyone.

  • 260 JTOONJ // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:02 PM

    Dannyo
He put plenty of pace and curve on it, not his fault ba wasn’t in the box for one of them. Compared to his usual floating crosses they’re brilliant.

  • 268 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:03 PM

Rotonda…Come on now, let’s not pretend we haven’t enjoyed the past few months ;)

Hopefully this will inject some confidence back in to the team, yes it’s against 10 men, but rightly so. More to the point, we haven’t looked like beating 10 men for a while, so this is good.

Second half up. Hoping to celebrate with you all later

  • 269 Slank // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:03 PM

Bring on Ranger mid through the second half for Jonas.

  • 270 spitfire_ // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:03 PM

  • 383 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:43 PM

Anita beginning to command. His passing has been crisp and with intent. Top performance.

  • 384 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:44 PM

    Is Cisse dumb?

  • 385 mattyNUFC // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:44 PM

has cisse gone an entire career without learning the offside rule?

  • 386 Marty-Toon // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:44 PM

    Specsavers for Cisse

  • 387 RonVanDam // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:45 PM

I bet Anita will captain the team in the next 5 years

  • 388 ToonDownSouth // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:45 PM

Oh my goodness… Ba’s hamstring… What the hell is happening?

  • 389 BelfastMagpie // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:45 PM

Some one please explain the offside rule to that guy fs

  • 390 Ben_W // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:46 PM

    Please don’t be a bad injury Demba…

  • 391 colwell // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:46 PM

Ba and Santon injured god how expensive are these 3 points.

  • 392 Marty-Toon // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:46 PM

Pardew shoulda rested the important players after 3-0 not Jonas

  • 393 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:46 PM

Damn Ba now after Santon. Please both be ok

  • 394 JAMSHA // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:48 PM

AS I SAID RANGER FOR BA….N.DER U GO.MR PARDEW THATS WHAT U GET…HOPE ITS NO SERIOUS

  • 395 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:48 PM

    Cursed I tell you

  • 396 davis_toons // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:49 PM

Newcastle football is really not EASY on the EYES

  • 397 Marty-Toon // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:50 PM

Start to bring the youth through to the 1st team,we don’t have enough seniors for the bench anymore

  • 398 toonbrother // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:50 PM

Marveaux has been pure class. Shame it took pardumb so long to realise how much better than ferguson he is

  • 399 mattyNUFC // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:51 PM

suffice to say, would’ve been a toss up without that red card

off to watch the walking dead from last night. this lost my attention about 40-od minutes ago….but i soldiered through

good stuff by anita, marvs, santon. MOM would probably be between the former two. anita probably all-round play, but marvs’ first start in ages. well done

  • 400 Beattie25 // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:52 PM

Not overly impressed but 3 points is more than welcome.

If Marv doesnt get a start against Fulham I will officially join the Pardew out campaign.

Anita showing the quality most of us always knew he had.

We need about 6-8 points in December to avoid relegation scrap.

We need to play a lot better, find the killer instinct and sign some Germans.

  • 401 toonbrother // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:53 PM

Wow was that colocinni kone just made a complete muppet out of

  • 402 Nufc-83 // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:53 PM

For me i hope Santon is ok more than i do ba. I think if ba is not on the pitch you will see a different player in cisse and he will get us some goals. Overall thought ba had a very good game tonight but anita, marv and Santon were the standout players.

  • 403 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:54 PM

Great win but at what cost ?

  • 404 toonbrother // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:54 PM

3 points in the bag well done to the boys

  • 405 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:55 PM

Kone has bamboozled Colo a few times, doesn’t do too well against tricky types.

    A win! :D

Anita MOTM – really stepped up to the plate with aplomb recently, whilst the longer serving have been floundering.

  • 406 JAMSHA // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:55 PM

is kone on loan at wigan????

  • 407 BelfastMagpie // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:55 PM

Glad to finally get a win.
11 v 11 would of been a lot different though. So thanks ref ! :-)

  • 408 RonVanDam // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:56 PM

I can see Ed getting the next article ready lol

  • 409 Spuggy // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:56 PM

With Anita coming good, I’m relishing a midfield three of Tiote, Cabaye and Anita – will we see it this season?

  • 410 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:56 PM

    Jiz

    Least you’re being positive.

Good win, good performance, shame about the injuries let’s just hope they aren’t too serious

  • 411 Nufc-83 // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:56 PM

Would take kone and Stam from wigan all day.

  • 412 Thump // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:56 PM

Cracking game! Beauty of a goal from Bigi and some beautiful build up play. Marveaux has definitely showed what he can do and it’s about time too!

  • 413 Graeme // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:56 PM

A much better performance all round

As the commentator said – Newcastle seem to have forgotten how to play football – now they have had a reminder of what it looks and feels like.

A win, is a win, is a win!!!!

  • 414 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:56 PM

Mission accomplished. 3 points and some more belief. There were some negatives, of course, but overall a lot of positives to take from the game.

I am going to run before Pardew gives his post match interview, but I look forward to hearing what he said wrong tomorrow.

Be happy people, a step in the right direction, even if we were helped by playing against 10 men, everyone needs some help at some time or another. Now let’s kick on.

    Good night.

  • 415 davis_toons // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:57 PM

We have got the GOALs we wanted, ITs time to improve the on game. Not Convincing. tbh

  • 416 NUFCarter // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:57 PM

Great game great pressure great goals and some really nice build play from marveaux and ferguson. Hope ba’s alright especially as next game is so important.

  • 418 JAMSHA // Dec 3, 2012 at 9:58 PM

    Only not as good.

  • 422 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:00 PM

    Catchy

Take a running jump of a very steep cliff you utter numpty.

Very few people can take you seriously any more. You are being viewed as a genuine supporter less and less and more of a pest.

Truly ridiculous human being and I feel sorry for your family.

  • 423 JAMSHA // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:01 PM

9 PTS FROM.NXT 3 GAME PLZZZZ EVERYTNG IS POSSIBLE ;-)

  • 424 Beattie25 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:01 PM

Without Cabaye we’ll be ok with Marv.

With Cabaye we’ll be amazing with Marv.

  • 425 Spreadthetoon // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:02 PM

Bigi’s goal was amazing and a real highlight. Ba/Cisse cannot link up well and don’t look like a partnership. Relieved to get 3 points but difficult to gauge whether we have turned the corner coz of early Red for Wigan.
Nxt match Fulham in London, so its a big big match….just hope we get some payback from last season and get the full 3 pts, god knows we need them. HWTL
PS MA, DL pls stick ur fingers out and slosh the cash…Debuchy no.1 and then a CB or 2 and CAM and a Striker………
God your wish list is long is it cos NUFC did SFA during the last transfer window…..me thinks “YES”

  • 426 toonking // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:02 PM

3-0 decent result and surely feel more confident with ourselves MOTM marvo

  • 427 Marty-Toon // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:03 PM

Nice feeling to get a win again,we needed that.
Hopefully we put out a young team in Europe and don’t get bashed and again have a starting 11 for Fulham.
Another injury or 2 and were as thin as Victoria Beckham

  • 428 toonking // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:03 PM

jasmin do you know city are still unbeaten

  • 429 Tsunki // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:04 PM

catchy – sorry mate but again mostly sloblock with those grey glasses of yours. Stam was one of two of wigans best players, no way MoM.

I think our zest went when Anita and Marveaux especially tired at the end, Sammy is not ready by any means.

I admit this was a poor game for Jonas. It almost looks like there is something fundamentally wrong with him, he was nowhere near the ball tonight.

Congrats to Bigi for grabbing the game by the nuts and bagging a special one. Better than Tiote thalf for half, the bad guy better watch his back.

Fergy good contribution our forwards really should have made more of his service. Cisse was in the right places for a change, his day will come against fulham now Ba is out.

Came at a cost though. Santon more than Ba I am thinking.

  • 430 Rotonda heights // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:05 PM

A thousand times better. I really enjoyed watching that.

I hope to god Pardew keeps the pass and move 433 now.

He must see it works so much better than 442 hoofball.

It was shades of our purple patch last season.

If Ba is injured just put Benny and Marveaux either side of Cisse.

Great to see the ball being passed and players like Anita and Marveaux and later Bigi showing for the ball all the time. Hugely encouraging.

Pardew did what I have been waiting for all season.

  • 431 Jamiemac // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:05 PM

catchy youre joking right? we were so so comfortable in the second half, we had won the game after 30 mins and just took it easy after that which is fine by me, never looked like conceding.

  • 432 stuart no9 // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:07 PM

well done to the lads for getting the 3 points, but thats where the compliments end.
can we still go down?? very much so- that 2nd half was a relegation performance . sell cisse- not only could he not find the goal with a sat-nav, he needs to understand what the off-side rule means, wor lass could explain that to him- then put bigi in his place.
give willo to gateshead, with our compliments- and give ba, cisse’s wages to keep him here. nearly forgot- then buy some quality ! there wasnt alot about tonight.however 3 points is 3 points, even if it was against wigan down to 10 men after 12 mins.

  • 433 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:12 PM

    Stuart

    Are you f**king high!?

  • 434 Graeme // Dec 3, 2012 at 10:39 PM

Stuart – so pleased you are married to your lass – we can sleep safe at night lol
