Are Demba Ba’s Agents Putting Out These Transfer Stories?

11:05 am, Tuesday, December 4th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 151 Comments

There are a lot of stories out today that link some top clubs with moving for Demba Ba in January, and the main one among them is Arsenal – although two other London clubs – Chelsea and Tottenham – are also reported to be interested in the Newcastle striker.

Demba Ba - are his agents putting out these stories?

The release clause in Ba’s contract is active again in January, as it was in June and July, and there were lots of stories out in the summer about clubs like Galatasaray being interested in the player, and it was thought the news was being put out by Demba Ba’s agents, who want him transferred, so they can make some big money.

It could well be the same thing is happening right now, as January approaches, and apparently Ba’s agents have already been talking to other clubs about Demba Ba’s availability. Why did Newcastle ever agree to such a release clause?

And Alan Pardew said after last night’s win that he was angry that details of Demba Ba’s contract negotiations at Newcastle had been leaked – so we wonder who’s doing the leaking?

In the summer, there was very little truth in the news about Ba – and we have to hope the same is true right now.

If it isn’t and Ba moves onto another club in January and leaves Newcastle - it will be a devastating blow to Newcastle.

And that’s an understatement.

We hope Mike Ashley will increase his offer to Demba Ba, but if Ba and his agents are after the biggest offer he should leave Newcastle, because he will not get that on Tyneside – not these days.

What do you think?

offer him the same contract as colo…he is club captain and highest paid i believe.

if he wont accept that then nothing more can be done.

  • 2 rainrix // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:15 AM

Tads… From previous topic, that was the point i was getting at, they’re both instinctive and both went to that position. Thats why the partnership doesnt work imo, they are too similar, when they have the space to themselves they are fantastic, together they get in each others way a bit.

They should just rotate who plays on the wing during games, gives each of them time in their best position and mixes it up for opposition defenders.

  • 3 ilovetoon8788 // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:15 AM

Marveaux was outstanding. He needs more games to find his feet and get back to his best. Him and Arfa switching around in the ‘number 10 zones’ would be mouth watering.

  • 4 JDdubai // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:15 AM

For all we know Demba is telling his agents to sort out a deal by making all this noise but at the same time deny everything himself so if a move doesnt come off then he can turn around after the window closes and say “Well I never said I wanted to leave, was all rumours” and he wont have burned his bridges with the fans….

  • 5 Kyo // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:15 AM

Well if we can’t keep our players then what’s the point?

  • 6 rainrix // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:19 AM

Sage… I agree we should pull out all the stops to sign him up again. If you compare him to the other players who have ten goals this season, RVP, suarez, both command massive wages and transfer fees.

It’ll be difficult to replace him with someone of equal quality, especially if we only get 7mil to do it with, or we could pull off a huge michu style coup, one can dream :)

  • 7 ilovetoon8788 // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:20 AM

We cannot afford to lose Ba. Replacing him would mean another 20-30million striker. I’d rather just pay him the 80k/wk instead.

  • 8 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:23 AM

    Sage from last post
Would love to see us play a top CL team but dont feel were really ready just yet maybe after the first knock out round…….or the final ;)

Fair enough both seem capable of playing wide tbf and rotated well last night

Equally niether ba or his agents are putting out anything and the press are just trying to create storie’s for the transfer window like they do with out players every window!

I was there the whole of last season, unlike you i do call a spade a spade.

About that pass concerning the penalty, it was blatantly obvious. you should actually read the comments

  • 10 Geordiedoonsooth // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:28 AM

Sell the greedy b*st*rd NUFC were there before Ba and will still be there after he’s long gone.

  • 11 Munster Mag // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:28 AM

Ian, u are pulling at my heartstrings ! I remember some great surges on the gallowgate in “the corner , the corner, the corner” etc etc, and great away days on terraces at places like Blackburn, Ipswich and even boring old Peterborough. Bloody health and safety and corporate security has taken over. I have always felt that the 442/433 argument wasnt as serious as people made out – its more about effort application understyanding and fluidity. Ceryainly enjoyed the 4-3-3, although not convinced Ba and Cisse fit together. I get the impression they aint mates. I had my 7 yr old daughter singing the Demba Ba song last night and hope to get the order in for the jersey asap for my 2 yr old boy. A good win , so important and Pardew was as gracious as ever afterwards.

Howay you were no where to be seen last season except for when you had an article out!
Theres a difference between calling it how you see it and only commenting on the negative which is what you do
As for your post about the passing read the replys im not the only one who picked up on it lad

Well you can check i was there, just because you and some of your cronies say i wasn’t does not mean i wasn’t. i have been a regular ever since we were back in PL.

  • 15 TorqToon // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:33 AM

Indian – I’m not sure you have been missed on this blog, lad.

I have to say, I’ve steered clear from here because of the constant negativity from certain sections of our ‘fans’ who will continue to find a downside to everything! Howay man, we won our first game in a while, scored 3 good goals, clean sheet, some top performances and you are picking Cissé apart today! I agree with others on here when I say that when Papiss was belting them in all over the place last season, you couldn’t speak highly enough of him, you and others have EXTREMELY short memories!

Yes not a great start, but we were never going to competing in top 6 territory whilst having a successful Europa league group. I’m sure if we get back to winning ways you will pipe down. I’ve nothing against you, but you seem to get more and more negative at time goes on.

  • 16 Transfer Sage // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:34 AM

it would not cost 20-30mil to replace Ba…nonsense

Cisse had a lot of goals and was only 8/9 mil

    michu at swansea 2 mil
    hernandez at man utd 7mil

it wont be easy to replace…and i would rather not…but if he goes he goes…he doesn’t stick around clubs and long time if you look at his career.

I think we just enjoy him while we can

  • 17 TorqToon // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:36 AM

And on big Demba, unfortunately whilst the clause is there, it will be a constant talking point. Either he signs a new deal without a clause, or he goes.

Unfortunately money talks in football nowadays and ‘love for a club’ seldom exists !

  • 18 Indian Magpie // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:37 AM

    Torq Toon,

Thanks for your reply, as unsolicited as it was. I will say what i want to say. Don’t like it, please ignore.

  • 19 Neil // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:37 AM

tequila – just from before about Jonas I agree with your sentiments but not for this season. I just don’t feel he’s done anything this season. His work rate is definitely down – I actually think he may have been carrying an injury throughout this season but he’s not the same player as last year – On a funny note his diving is terrible!! On the subject of Demba Ba’s contract I think twitter can be used to help fans sometimes and Demba, for me anyway, drops subtle hints that most of the talk surrounding him is cack.

  • 20 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:38 AM

Dont worry son you’re in the right ;)

At least i can point out some mistakes, rather than sitting mum.

  • 23 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:40 AM

Cant help but feel his clause is there as some form of protection im sure the board probably have a clause against his knee tbf

  • 24 Indian Magpie // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:40 AM

I don’t like shola as a player 1 little bit.

  • 25 tequilamag // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:44 AM

Neil, interesting possibility, seems cabaye may have been carrying an injury before he went for his op. If true though perhaps even more reason to give Jonas some plaudits for playing when not fully fit. I agree on Demba he has consistently rubbished the rumours about him.

  • 26 Graeme // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:46 AM

If we play a holding 2, in front of the back 4 – Tiote & Anita it would allow a 4 man diamond with EITHER Ba or Cisse as the Striker. Cabaye at the base, HBA & Marvey outside him.

They would both score goals, would both play less games per season, unless we are in Europe, which means they would stay fitter for longer. All positive benefits to the team!!

  • 27 BelfastMagpie // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:49 AM

I would just pay him the big bucks.

Without his goals we would be f*****.

  • 28 obatoyou // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:49 AM

Holy mackerel, Newcastle at 3-1 to beat fulham, get yr wallets out folks

  • 29 tequilamag // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:51 AM

Oba good odds as long as we can keep Berbatov quiet.

  • 30 obatoyou // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:55 AM

True tequila, might even be worth going for the draw. Doubt we’ll care bout the Bordeaux game so we’ll have a ready 11 (the best barring injuries)

  • 31 BelfastMagpie // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:55 AM

    Full bogey ground Craven Cottage.

I’d take a draw no probs..

  • 32 mattyNUFC // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:58 AM

it’s MORE than obvious Pards cannot drop Marvs and surely now cannot revert back to a 442

if this isn’t the team v fulham i’d be shocked:

ok, know it’ll be ba and cisse switched, but that’s what i want. if jonas is fit into that team i’d be shocked. does not deserve a start in the slightest.

  • 33 Tinman // Dec 4, 2012 at 11:59 AM

Just going to throw this out there.

Demba Ba is not leaving Newcastle for a bigger club. he isn’t good enough. Yes he is a good goalscorer but watch any game he has played for NUFC and you should see he is not all that. His hold up play is very poor, he comes deep but lacks the creativity to effectively link up play, he is far too greedy, he has a poor touch. All in all that is not good enough for a top Premier League club. Only place he could possibly go is Liverpool because they are as desperate as us!

However I can say it would be bad if we lost Ba in January, it is the worst time to buy a replacement. If we lose in the summer its not as big a deal as people make out. Yes it would be a blow, Demba Ba is a squad player for top teams and a important player for the likes of us, Everton or Liverpool.

None of the top clubs will pay 80k a week to Demba Ba when there are so many better options who would love a chance at their club for wages of 30-50k or so.

If the kid is as miserable and grumpy and as hard to work with as he looks and sounds then tell him where to go in the summer. But DONT sell in January

  • 34 Tinman // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:01 PM

Graeme @ 26, spot on mate

  • 35 TorqToon // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:15 PM

Indian – I’m trying too ignore! But when you keep coming up with the same old spiel it’s hard!

Yeah I agree that there must be some kind of protection of our investment against Ba’s knee. At least I hope so.

Fulham away is a very tricky game…on a high but berbatov can ok his day be one of the worlds best, so a big game for colo and Willo.

  • 36 Transfer Sage // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:15 PM

Interesting story on bbc site where ginola defends bale for diving.

I don’t like the guy. He says he goes down to avoid getting hurt…well that’s fine, jump over the tackle but you don’t need to dive and pretend to be fouled.

Ronaldo realised this…if you stay on your feet you have a chance to score more often. It’s the reason he upped his goal tally at man utd and continued that in Madrid.

Even Suarez is staying on his feet more lately…although he still does dive.

  • 37 ToonDownSouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:16 PM

The point of a release clause is that we can’t choose when we sell him. We have no choice over whether we let him go in January or not.

  • 38 Transfer Sage // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:22 PM

What I will say on Ba though….all players come and go…just enjoy them while we have them.

  • 39 obatoyou // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:23 PM

Assuming a fully fit Ben Arfa and Marvs are ahead of Jonas in the pecking order, HBA is coming back from injury, so maybe he’ll start Jonas and bring HBA on in the second half.

Do I agree that Marveux and HBA should start ahead of Jonas? Yes, I do. Does Pardew agree? Well, he’s very loyal, and only makes changes like these over long periods, so we may see a lot more of Jonas in the coming weeks, but who knows in the long run.

  • 40 magpie6699 // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:24 PM

Tinman – I don’t agree about Ba – last night I commented to my mate about how much good and skilful play Ba was doing as a front man, saying “He doesn’t just score goals!”. Not saying he does it every game though.
As for all those comments about Wigan being the better team, I just don’t get it. Yes, they came out second half with a bit of fire and yes, I did like the look of Stam who whipped some crosses in as well as taking people on – but for the most part I thought they flattered to deceive. Lots of pretty passes going nowhere and only occasional penetration. We had some very incisive runners- Marveaux, Fergie, Ba etc. with at times some very good passing. How many saves did Krul have to make? Yes, I know they were down to ten men but they even managed our trick of having a free-kick in our half ending with a pass back to their goal-keeper! I thought we did some decent covering last night and without Cabaye and Ben Arfa we still created. Not great but at least it was a decent showing.

Point being Jonas could even start the next game with HBA.

  • 43 ToonDownSouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:27 PM

    Drop Marveaux??

Sadly it’ll probably happen, but seriously..

  • 44 check the toastie // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:29 PM

Just proved the point last night that Marv is a super player and should have been ini the team way before now, very similar to the Ben Arfa treatment last year, Pardews lust to play Jonas, or Ba and Cisse in a 442 have held back the team all season.

I hope he has learnt his lesson at last, wont hold my breath. Also Anita has actually been given a run and shown wot a super little player he is, again wouldnt be surprised to see Perch and Jonas over Anita and Marv at Fulham.

Just makes me boil man, Pardew still needs to convince me, it will take some doing, it will take more than a cautious win over 10 men to do it.

  • 45 Graeme // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:29 PM

Tads, Tinman – there were story’s in the press when we signed him that we have a clause where if his knee goes, we don’t pay him compensation as the club cant insure against it. The knee also heavily influenced his salary package – smaller basic, bigger bonuses for games played, goals scored etc.

As a consequence Ba’s advisor’s insisted on the release clause so he could maximize his earning potential if his knee proved to be ok.

At the time, each was looking after their own situation!!

Ba, having proved his knee is a lot stronger than everyone thought, is bound to get a club wanting his proven scoring abilities.

How much would 12 – 15 goals be worth to, say, QPR?? If his goals kept them up they would make millions – so to offer him £5 million a year would seem like very good business!!

  • 46 mattyNUFC // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:32 PM

sadly, i think you’re right. AP will find an excuse to bench our best player to keep jonas in there

is this football club not in the state of mind that if you are not fully fit you shouldn’t even make the bench? if hba is benched in favour of jonas i’d be livid

all hypotheticals now though so not getting worked up about it

  • 47 Jarra_Mag // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:35 PM

Cisse was also a mile offside so a pass would have meant nothing. he probably knew that judging by the effort he put into the back heel.

They linked well last night as they were’nt playing on top of each other. they are too similar for 4-4-2

4-3-3 all the way and alternate the top 3?s positionings throughout a match to throw off opposition ala barca

ba can do a job on the left and up top, cisse on the right and up top and hba either side

hats off to cisse last night he ran and chased down everything and was unlucky not to score. i noticed a number of occasions he made a great run but the ball never came – he was getting frustated. goals will come

  • 48 Transfer Sage // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:39 PM

llambias said the club never have bonuses for goals scored/games played so not sure how true that is.

Ashley was nnoyed by oba martins shooting all the time as he had a goal bonus.

Ba got a clause at west ham too….he has had one there and at us since he had to go on strike for hoffenheim to sell him.

He is a nice man by all accounts but a selfish footballer…no problem with that…it’s just how he is.

  • 49 toonLYF // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:41 PM

    Ben Arfa————Ba————Marveaux

  • 50 ToonDownSouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:42 PM

I thought it was pretty obvious why we started to sit back yesterday. When Ferguson replace Santon, Jonas stopped playing in the wide forward position and basically sat on top of Ferguson.

You could even see Ba shouting at Jonas and telling him to press high up the pitch. The high pressing game just doesn’t work with 2 up top, as shown by our post-Santon performance.

So what do we think? Does Ferguson need babysitting? He’s never shown himself to be a fantastic defender, but he has so much pace that he can nearly always get out of jail.

  • 51 ToonDownSouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:44 PM

I really cannot see Pardew dropping Jonas, especially away from home.

  • 52 archaeomag // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:47 PM

He is not built like defender, & Guti may be following orders

  • 53 lesh // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:49 PM

Unable to post the link to so here’s copy of an article that may be of some interest –

‘ Jenny Leigh brings the lowdown on Liverpool’s potential transfer deals involving Daniel Sturridge, Demba Ba, Andy Carroll, and Theo Walcott.

I have it on good authority from a reliable source that Liverpool have unofficially agreed terms with Chelsea for Daniel Sturridge in a deal worth £12 million, plus incentives, and that as soon as the January transfer window opens, the sale will officially go through, the player’s agent already having opened preliminary talks with the club over personal terms and subject to them being agreed.

The same industry insider who had prior knowledge of the Raul Meireles deal and the Torres deal of 2011, has informed me that Sturridge’s move to Anfield is a ‘done deal’.

The most intriguing insight he gave me was that Liverpool are in negotiations with Newcastle United for a swap deal involving Andy Carroll and Demba Ba.

However, the deal is a long way from being wrapped up due to unprecedented complications, which could mean it does not happen at all, involving the Englishman’s loan to West Ham which presents two major problems – whilst his contract with the Hammers does contain a recall option, he has already been registered with two Premier League clubs this season which means, under FIFA regulations, he technically cannot play for a third.

However, due to Ba’s imminently expiring contract and his failure to agree new terms with Newcastle – the club are reluctant to sell him for his minimum fee release clause of £7.5 million before they line up a suitable replacement – they are willing to accept a swap deal that includes cash plus Carroll who could actually end up physically moving in May, not January, if they cannot resolve the registration issues with FIFA. (Refer to Chapter III: Article 5.3 of the FIFA Regulations for the Status and Transfer of Players.)

The second problem is that West Ham’s loan of Carroll was subject to a clause where they would be granted the first option to buy him, provided they aren’t relegated and, subsequently, a legal duel between Liverpool, West Ham, and Andy Carroll looks set ensue as the player is keen to return to return to the North East.

There is little in the way of information about the contract Carroll has with West Ham and, equally, the deal that was struck between them and Liverpool – as all parties are under strict confidentiality agreements. Newcastle, however, aren’t, which is why manager Alan Pardew has been talking up a possible return for the striker – as an outsider he’s practically the only person involved who can comment on it and can’t be sued for it.

Meanwhile, it will not come as much of a surprise to hear that Liverpool are in for Walcott. What I have been told is that his transfer from Arsenal is currently hinging upon one thing – if Arsenal meet his £90,000 per week wage demands before January 1st, he will stay at the Emirates and, if not, Liverpool will be his destination of choice. The Reds are prepared to offer him his original demand of £100,000 per week.

My source described the Walcott situation as a ’50-50’ – the other factor being that Brendan Rodgers will only be allocated £20 million for January transfers by the board. The Sturridge deal plus the Ba deal would likely devour that budget and to bring Walcott in, they’d have to offload Stewart Downing to generate the surplus and, despite rumours linking him with Arsenal, Downing currently has yet to generate any real interest.’

    Food for thought and debate??

  • 54 rainrix // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:50 PM

Tds…. Fergie may have pace but a quadriplegic monkey could easily hold him off. Thats probably why jonas was back helping out. The more i watch fergie the more i realise he isn’t a FB. Positioning and tackling wise he’s decent its just far to easy to hold him off so he’s limited in what he can do defensively

So i’d say yes he does need babysitting :)

  • 55 sirtoongospel // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:51 PM

I liked the way they swapped around last night. By doing that BA scored 2 goals but Cisse could easily have scored too. Next time it might be Cisse who scores and not Demba. But the system worked well and when HBA comes back, I would like to see Pardew consider playing Marveaux ahead of Jonas to see how it works. Also, Cabaye might just find it hard to get back in if Anita continues his form. But that is a good thing. Marveaux had the ability to run at people a bit like HBA (although not as insanely good) but he also releases a pass at the right time. I can honestly see us winning at Fulham next week and if we do then we would suddenly be in a much healthier position. 2 good additions in January and all if a sudden we could be flying. And I still think Ba and Cisse can forge a partnership which sees them both score 20.

  • 56 Transfer Sage // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:51 PM

I think he does need help. For me ferguson is not a good left back. He is too weak for one, just shrugged out of the way too easily.

Ferguson is ok as a winger as he has a good delivery and a trick in him but not good enough at defending.

Most of his games for Northern Ireland have been as a winger…he just isn’t a defender in my eyes.

  • 57 tequilamag // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:52 PM

TDS I like Fergie but am not sold on the idea of him being a FB. He played poorly agains Man U and I think that is why Jonas started playing a lot deeper to protect him.

  • 58 MacToon // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:57 PM

Lesh, interesting stuff but as it says there are so many ifs and buts about Carroll so puts a question mark over the whole article in my books.
As for Downing generating money…. ha ha ha ha

  • 59 Transfer Sage // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:58 PM

those rumours sound wide of the mark.

    Sturridge yes..i can see that.

walcott….can’t see that one happening….he wouldn’t get the central role he wants at liverpool with sturridge and suarez there

Ba…could see that….i think he would be interested if he got a huge contract offer..clearly wants that off us but if we wont pay him that he might go elsewhere

not sure carroll would return though….don’t see why liverpool would do a deal of carrol and cash for ba when they just need to pay 7.5mil and he is theres

they would get more than that for carroll…bit of nonsense i think but a good read

  • 60 tequilamag // Dec 4, 2012 at 12:58 PM

Lesh, it would seem unlikely that we would swap Ba for a player we can`t use till next year. But stranger things have happened.

what a waste if he ends up back here. get with it, Alan

  • 64 Dannyo // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:21 PM

I spotted your posts on Jonas and Marveux.
If Marveux is to stay in the team, Jonas would have to let out imo.
I dunno what’s up with Jonas, but he’s utterly toothless these days, not even taking people on and winning the free kicks.
Could be a confidence issue, but tbh, Jonas had a downwards spirals starting Christmas last year.
Jonas subbing off last night, i dunno what it was, but it’s probably the first time i’ve seen him getting subbed off in the last year, outside injury.
AP kept Marv on and took Jonas off.
    A step towards something different?

  • 65 Rotonda heights // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:21 PM

If Ba goes, rather than the awful prospect of getting an injury prone, non – scoring, off the field, totally 1 dimensional problem in Andy carroll in exchange, why not just play Benny and Marv either side of Cisse in a 433, with Shola, Campbell and Obertan covering just 1 central striker.

Cisse and Ba worked far better yesterday in a 433, but if Ba is away I don’t think it’s necessarily the end of the world and I think Cisse would come in to hs own again as the main man.

  • 66 ToonDownSouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:24 PM

It’s complete crap, I could have put together that story. Seeing as we’re apparently going to get about £4m for Ba if he activates his release clause, an ‘imminently expiring’ contract (over a year and a half) isn’t exactly a big deal.

It’s taking 3 rumours, and rambling on about them for 10 minutes. It’s how people feed their egos by acting like they have inside information over the internet.

And as someone said, why exactly would Liverpool offer cash plus Carroll, when they could have Ba for £7m? Erm…

  • 67 ToonDownSouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:27 PM

Agreed. We don’t need to replace Ba with an average striker – we already have a world class one.

Unfortunately, as matty said, it’s pretty clear how much AP admires Carroll.

  • 68 Transfer Sage // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:30 PM

In the summer I wanted Carroll to return. I thought he would be good for us.

After seeing him at west ham I couldn’t have changed my mind more. The team is set up for him and he still can’t score. He has spent more time injured than fit. If reports are true he is still getting in trouble.

Move on and get a pacey striker which is the one aspect of our squad we lack.

  • 69 MacToon // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:30 PM

I don’t actually see Ba as a Brendan Rogers player but hey I might be proved wrong, I’d guess he’s more likely interesting the likes of dodgy ‘Arry Redknapp.
I hear Redknapp’s getting paid £3 million before tax and you guessed it £3 mil after tax too!

  • 70 MacToon // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:32 PM

    Rogers type of player*

  • 71 Transfer Sage // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:35 PM

I thoought he would be on more than that.

Redknapp has been linked with bent, defoe, crouch and now Ba.

With his history and the idiot fernades in charge at QPR there will be countless stories from there the next month.

  • 72 mattyNUFC // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:38 PM

really hope you’re right. Also hope AP is just talking Carroll up to activate this rumored (probably that) sell-on fee, but I don’t think so. If Ba goes I’m pretty positive Carroll is who he’ll go for.

  • 73 Transfer Sage // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:46 PM

well we seemed to be stumping up for 2 striker in the summer.

    de jong and carroll.

not sure why though as they are totally different players and each one would require a totally different system. It seems to me that once we couldn’t get de jong we should have been looking for a similar player….not carroll.

  • 74 Transfer Sage // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:47 PM

  • 76 lesh // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:50 PM

Aye Mac, Tequila, there are many ifs and buts attached to the Carroll, Ba story and it’s probably all tripe written for the benefit of our bin-dipping friend, to give them some ….if that’d ever be possible…… it beggars belief that they’re even talking up the possibility of finishing 4th!

  • 77 ToonDownSouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:51 PM

Just watched the extended highlights of last nights match.

Wigan offered absolutely nothing. I read a couple on here claiming they were all over us in the second half.

I must say, I really do not see it.

  • 78 Transfer Sage // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:53 PM

Wigan came out on the attack for first 10 mins of second half but didn’t really create a proper goal scoring chance.

I don’t think krul had much to do at all.

We just sat off a little too much but Pardew naturally wants to protect a 2 goal lead after we have lost 4 on the spin.

  • 79 ToonDownSouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:53 PM

Also, why on earth did I read someone say that Krul was one of our worst players……?

  • 80 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 1:59 PM

    Mac toon
Completly agree, cant see how ba would fit in a liverpool rodgers like his small speedy players!

Couldnt agree more about carroll really dont undetstand the hype and the clamour to try and get him back (purely because he’s a local??) the whole west ham team is set up purely to get him service and he still couldn’t hit a barn door genuinly think he’s a one trick pony who’s been well and truly sussed! Plus he’s crocked he’s spent more time on the physio table in half a season than demba “ticking time bomb” ba has in his entire premier league career!

About fergie, i think he does need babysitting.
I said last night once he came on wigan started to target us down that side.
I think the reason jonas started sitting deep was that fergie was getting dragged out of position chasing balls up by the half way line, they’d do a couple of passes, take him out the game and then colo was getting dragged across to cover leaving acre’s of space in the middle once jonas dropped it meant colo could carry on doing what he does best!

  • 81 mindshaft // Dec 4, 2012 at 2:00 PM

I’d obviously prefer Ba to stay but the club can’t be held to ransom, I can’t understand why people on here seem to think we have to pay 20 million for a striker if he goes Michu cost 2 million and has the same number of goals as Ba, Jelavic was 7 million, Lukaka was 6.5 million… there are decent value good strikers out there and some would complement Cisse better than Ba does..

  • 82 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 2:00 PM

  • 90 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 4, 2012 at 2:12 PM

Some of you may not know but two of Ba’s best friends are at NUFC being Cabaye & Ben Arfa and this is our best chance of keeping him IMO. Even if he wants 90k a week just give him it FFS, we have not had a consistent goalscorer and all round nice bloke for a long time. If he left it would cost us 10 million plus to bring in someone unproven so just give Demba what he wants as he has deserved it.

And don’t say “well what about his ticking time bomb knee ?” that is just scaremongerers and he has actually been one of our least injury prone players compared to the likes of Tiote, Collo & Cabaye.

  • 91 Transfer Sage // Dec 4, 2012 at 2:13 PM

Ba, even if he wants a lot of money, is still putting in effort during games.

My issue is not money, all players obviously want the best for themselves, but if he refuses to play left.

There is nothing confirmed in this so for now I won’t criticise him for it.

  • 92 santonthenewmaldini // Dec 4, 2012 at 2:13 PM

Ferguson did look lightweight against that Kone lad although he also bullied Colo and Williamson a little bit as well

I thought Ferguson made some nice jinking runs and he put in 2 peaches of a cross one which Cisse should have done better and the other one Ba and Cisse ran the same way!So within coming on he created 2 clear cut chances! He also works as hard as Jonas and then was a challenge he made where he took Mccarthy clean out which shows he is not afraid to get stuck in!

I think he needs to get some kind of run on the left wing where he can play his game with Santon behind him and they can then change positions we tried it a couple of games ago but it never worked but that was because we we were just playing longballs if we keep possession like we did last night then it will allow our players to thrive because no one in our team is suited to long ball apart from Shola!!

Also i am not sure about Sammy he does not offer much end product he has pace and can beat a man but thats it maybe he would be better up front where if he beats a man he can then just hit a shot?

Hopefully this is the end of Stoke City hoofball reserves after last night!!!

  • 93 Transfer Sage // Dec 4, 2012 at 2:16 PM

    big pappa

I agree in trying to keep him but if he gets 90k what will ben arfa say, what will colo say, cabaye, tiote, cisse, marvoux?

if they have good seasons do they get 90k too?

I think the club are right having a wage limit..around 60k i have read.

Once one player gets it they all want creates more problems.

  • 94 ToonDownSouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 2:17 PM

Just give him £90k a week? Lol. Easy to say when it’s not your £90k a week I guess!

  • 95 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 4, 2012 at 2:24 PM

Isn’t collo on a similar wage ?. And as for what will the other players say, do Darren Fletcher or Johnny Evans complain that Van Persie & Rooney get 200k a week which is more than double that they get ? . Ba is in double figures again before Christmas for the second season in a row and is matching Suarez & Van Persie for goals playing in an inferior team so he more than deserves it IMO. It might be an incentive to other players that if you excell you get rewarded.

Let me ask you this. Would it cost more in the long run to bring in an adequate untested replacement for Ba plus agents fee’s anf wages or just give Demba what he wants ?. Easy choice if you ask me.

  • 96 gaz 44 // Dec 4, 2012 at 2:28 PM

hasn’t carrol scored as many league goals as cisse this year.. yet created lot more

  • 97 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 2:30 PM

Not sure what ba’s on already because its changed so many times! When we signed him it was reported for 30k a week, then 30k with performance related bonuses now its 45k but in all honesty for an international CF who has never hit less than double figures in a season in his career you’d reckon 60-70k would be a fair wage?

  • 98 rainrix // Dec 4, 2012 at 2:30 PM

Hi, off topic and an irregular poster on here, but, I’ve been invited to a question and answers event at St.James’ tonight and have been racking the brain for some decent questions to ask tonight as alledgedly Lambais is supposed to be there, obviously questions about the lack of summer investement and the janurary to come spring to mind, but was wondering if anybody had any obscure questions, something to really test whoever will be there.

  • 100 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 4, 2012 at 2:34 PM

Gutierrez has lost it. He was a different player when we signed him. In his first game against Man Utd, he was taking players on with ease and showed incredible speed. He doesn’t do that anymore. Marveaux is a much more exciting player.

  • 101 Transfer Sage // Dec 4, 2012 at 2:36 PM

well you could argue willo, simmo, etc wont get the johnny evans doesn’t pipe up.

but ben arfa is as vital as ba, cabaye is too, whether it is justified or not players will complain and it will cause unrest.

man utd simply say to johnny evans, etc if they pipe up…go play somewhere else, we have the money to replace you and you wont get it as good as you have here.

We can’t afford to do that.

players like michu 2mil, jelevic, 7mil, defoe was 7mil, there are players who would be good for a small fee…have to just trust out scouts to find the right player if Ba was to leave.

And from what I have seen colo is anywhere from 60-80…not sure which.

Mackas -I would love to know what bonuses are payed out. The rumours some time ago was that Dastardly did not want to pay bonuses in order to keep the wage bill down and it was allegedly this subject that led to the demise of Houghton. Apparently (if correct ) Barton/Nolan refused to sign and advised other players not to sign also- word of caution -this is the account as per Barton.
A couple of days ago I watched the Sky Sports interview with KK after his court case. He described Ashley as knowing nothing about football and Llanbias knowing even less. Quite frightening -unless they are quick learners!

Great to get the win yesterday, it was very much needed.

The sending off helped us, but you can only play what’s infront of you.
I honestly thought it was a bit harsh tbh. Cisse has no strength at all which he showed later in the match and he went down too easy for me. Still, we won 3-0. I’m not complaining. :D

We seemed to be able to keep the ball and pass it on ground, even when we were getting closed down. We also pushed high up the pitch and closed them down, which is something we haven’t done all season. Anita was especially good at doing this, he didn’t stop running for the entire game. He is starting to come good now. Marveaux was another bright spark too. Looks similar to HBA in the way he can dribble past players with ease. Him and HBA have to start against Fulham next week. Bigi stood out for the right reasons too. Not only did he score a good goal, I thought he played better than Tiote. He seems more composed and seems a decent passer.

Negatives out of the game were the injuries. Hopefully they aren’t too bad. Also Cisse…

Drifts offside too much, first touch has been woeful and his strength is pretty poor too. Lack of confidence maybe? I don’t know.
He also needs to stop going for the spectacular alot as well. He needs to get back to basics consistenly before he can do that. ( Yes, he scored a perfectly good goal against Stoke).

Other than that, good performance. Glad we won. Don’t care if we played against 10 men, we got a bit of luck for once. Onwards and upwards we go.

  • 133 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 4, 2012 at 4:09 PM

Yeah his track records with injuries have really stunted/halted his progress and imho i dont think you can really go into a season with him in your first team plans without being harsh because your just not going to have available, his fitness levels also seem all over the place this season never seen such a chunky cb!
Your right about willo to easiky upgradeable but not nearly as bad as made out by some

  • 134 santonthenewmaldini // Dec 4, 2012 at 4:24 PM

Would love us to get an absolute beast at centre back someone like Huth or Shawcross who can play it from the back but can dominate any centre forward as well as cause a threat in the opposition box!

Also Bassong looks excellent for Norwich wish he had decided to stay with us when we went down him and Colo would be awesome at the back!

Has anyone seen Remi Streete play?Could he make the step up?

  • 135 Mister Tuff // Dec 4, 2012 at 4:27 PM

    Toonarmy @128.
I agree with the fact that Ashley -business wise -is absolutely no mug -his business interests are expanding all the time -including global.
I reluctantly acknowledge your views that KK was out of touch a bit at, what I would describe as his second coming. However he did win the court case for unfair dismissal.
Whilst what happened in the past may not be relevant now – I’ve always thought -that lessons learnt (if learnt) do help in what is done in the future.
The accounts of what occured via Keegan/ Barton suggest that the management and the playing side were not singing from the same hymn sheet (to put it mildly). I sometimes wonder if that situation still exists.
We hear all sorts of conflicting accounts such as the club saying we need a CB and FB last season, then we do not need any and the squad is fine -after the Debuchy/Douglas debacle- then we hear again we need additional players -then I think it was in October we hear Dastardly stating there will be no big money signings in January, then we hear from Parsnip that they are discussing how we “undercooked” the team requirements the other day (along with some strange gobledeegook which I still cannot work out what he was talking about).
I think that the hierarchy at Newcastle are themselves responsible for a lot of the confusion that always seems to surround the club.
I think that there will be several signings in January as Ashley at a whim can authorise this.

  • 136 Super Magpie // Dec 4, 2012 at 4:37 PM

    Mister tuff

If we win a few games before the new year then no players will be brought in because the squad will suddenly be adequate enough to finish in the top 8. Contradicting at its best…

In case it hasn’t been mentioned…

There are multiple reports of Wenger wanting to acquire Ba next month, presumably if Arsenal cannot sign Huntelaar.

Would feel bad if Ba left, but would find solace in the fact Cisse would probably go to ripping up the EPL again.

  • 143 Mister Tuff // Dec 4, 2012 at 4:52 PM

    Super @136.
I think that Parsnips gobledeegook the other day probably means exacty what you suggest – getting a good haul of points up to January will define how many players are bought – ie lessen the number.
But then we are again within the realms akin to the “big summer no buy gamble” -can they risk not strengthening – and potentially lose million of pounds.. If not buying they could be lucky and “get away” with it for the remainder of the season – will they risk it – I suspect not – which is why I think there will be several signings plus the potential of a quality surprise signing. The run up to January will define our fate for the rest of the season.

    Mister tuff

No matter how we do in the next few games I feel atleast 3 players need to be brought in.

    Sissoko – £2m-£3m
    Douglas- £3m-£4m
Debuchy – £5m-£6m ( Don’t believe what he says about moving, players lie all the time)

Then we could get £1m-£2m for Simpson since his contract is running out. A £8m-£12m net spent is not out of the realms of possibility is it?

If Ba leaves to go to either Arsenal, Man United, Chelsea or City i could accept that because it would be for more money and to play in a better team (although Arsenal are not much better than us)with a chance of winning something

If he goes to QPR or Liverpool i would be raging because he would just be going for the money only although i honestly could see him struggling at Liverpool just the way they play i dont think he would fit into their team

Mackas – ask them why round pizzas come in square boxes, how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck had crippling arthritis, and why can’t we touch mc hammer.

    Super @145.
I definitely would like to see Debuchy arrive – I think him and Santon are very like each other – with their ability to go forward – having attacking fullbacks would be factored in by the opposition – making them much more cautious in case they got caught out by a counter attack.
Definitely also need a big strong fast CB and lastly an attacking midfielder. Then I think with other players appearing to be developing we will be in a better situation next season.
I hope Debuchys’ latest statements are not true about him staying at Lille – he may just be saying this as he was probably made to look a bit daft in the summer by his public announcements – hopefully its just a ruse.

I cannot see Ba leaving the Toon in January. He has always said he loves the place, so why would he want to go anywhere else. Cashers will not sell him for 7 million, so he stays as long as the player wants to stay. Why would he want to go to Liverpool (who do not want Carroll but would consider it sweet revenge to get Ba for a total bargain) or Arsenal. Two clubs who are in freefall. They offer nothing more than the Toon. Ba is staying. But if manure or Chelski or City or Madrid or Barca…..different matter. He’d be gone in a flash, even if he does love the Toon.
