Newcastle Tracking Brazilian Right-Back

4:11 am, Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 41 Comments

The Daily Mail is reporting today that Newcastle United have made an enquiry with Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro about their right back Marcos Rocha.

Marcos Rocha – 23 year-old Brazilian right back

Marcos will turn 24 next week, and the 6′ tall full back joined the Brazilian club back in 2005, when he was 16 years old, and spent time out loan at Democrata SL-MG, CRB, Ponnte Pretaand,  and last season was at America MG.

It seems Newcastle have set up some scouts in places like Brazil and Argentina, because we are now being linked with players in South America.

The Mail is reporting Newcastle have inquired about the full-back in case they cannot get Mathieu Debuchy from Lille in January, and presumably they will want to have a right back lined up soon, in case a club comes in and pays a fee for Danny Simpson in Jnauary, who is out of contract in the summer.

Marcos has played 94 times for Atletico Mineiro, which is a club based in the city of Belo Horizonte in southeastern Brazil, and we literally have no idea how good this lad is.

Atletico play in black and white stripes with black shorts and black and white socks – that’s a strange strip – and they finished second in the Brazilian Championship last season.

Comments welcome.

Is it wrong of me to hate arsenal so bad?

    Morning lads!

…for some reason I just seem to skip these transfer rumors these days 😉

So are qwe playing Bordeaux Thursday night and Fulham on Monday?

  • 5 obatoyou // Dec 5, 2012 at 6:14 AM

Afternoon Jesper, might see some unknown players in the Bordeaux game hopefully, fulham are way overrated, we can beat them

  • 6 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 5, 2012 at 6:36 AM

Oba…I always seem to forget it is not morning to everyone 😉

…good afternoon to you good sir! The Bordeaux game would be a good oportunity to try out different players but at the same time play the inform players as well.

We should have a few more bodies availeble for the Fulham game I think?

Jesper- Good Morning. Hope the Daily mirror are right that were looking to sign Adam Lallana in January. He was the best player on the field when we played them recently. I posted at the time that he was just the sort of player we needed.

    Is hangeland still suspended

  • 9 check the toastie // Dec 5, 2012 at 6:42 AM

Its good news that Simpson is actually playing OK for someone with no ability currently, lets hope someone is daft enough to give us a couple of million in January,

Tavernier should have been playing Right Back all year, he is 21 coming up 22 just signed a new 3 year contract play the lad for gods sake, typical Pardew nonsense, its killing the team.

No doubt he will be judged based on playing LB in a totally weakened team away in France, bellends some folk on here, the boy should be threw in.

Morning Ian…how are you my friend?

…always difficult to price away the stars from a club especially in January. I don’t think £5M would do it since SOTON are fighting to stay up and I don’t think Lallana is at the end of his contract?

If we need a MF I am still game on Sisokko 🙂 just the right price for us – free or very cheap lol

  • 11 Ian Toon // Dec 5, 2012 at 6:59 AM

Check- managers manage and supporters support. Sounds good to me.
Pardew’s mental picture in his head of how he wants to play is fashioned from time spent with players in training and scouting reports
on whom he might acquire. Have you watched a lot of Tavernier of late? From initially breaking into Europa side after looking good on loan if anything he has not looked good enough to feature. This is often the case with prospects until they find their level . Ferguson likewise is struggling to break through just yet. Pardew has no favourites .

Cool to see Newcastle targeting a player I’ve watched for a while now at Atl. Mineiro. They just won 2nd place in the Brasileirao, wonder if he would want to leave?

We have to have our bases covered in case we can’t forge a new contract with Simmo.

  • 13 darrenfletcher88 // Dec 5, 2012 at 7:09 AM

I still think the French flyer will join on deadline day, good to have some other options thou!!

  • 14 Ian Toon // Dec 5, 2012 at 7:12 AM

Jesper- I am just fine hope you and family are well. Just listening to the cricket whilst getting ready for my day. I am away so will be watching game tomorrow on TV. You must tell me some time what the build up to Xmas is like in Denmark. Monday night in Newcastle
was well and truly open for business. Not celebrating anything but a resounding return to winning ways. The mood was great again. I am not taking anything for granted but the dark clouds have lifted.

  • 15 Ian Toon // Dec 5, 2012 at 7:22 AM

Jesper- I would like to see us sign a few English players. As you suggest might be at a premium. If Simpson’s going then let’s get a couple of experienced Pl defenders in to add depth to the squad. Sissokko would be a terrific signing as well- Lol. £5 million would be a snip for Lallana would be more likely were Southampton to be relegated. He talks highly of Pardew. Saints fans are highly appreciative of what he did for their club.

  • 16 Dannyo // Dec 5, 2012 at 7:33 AM

    @Ian Toon
Lallana would be an excellent addition imo, and if he speaks highly of AP, we have heard AP speak highly of him in the past aswell.
Can’t see this go through before the summer tho, and i do think it would be have some moving about in the midfield before an eventual transfer.
I would think that Sissokho atm is higher up the list.

  • 17 Ian Toon // Dec 5, 2012 at 7:34 AM

Jesper- saints fans told me that Carr had watched Lallana when they were in the Championship. Pardew is a good judge of a player he signed Dean Ashton for West Ham . You probably remember him breaking his ankle whilst training with England and had to eventually quit the game. If you fancy a player it’s a good idea to chat to the fans who watch them play regularly. We’d give great reports of Simpson and Williamson if only to get shot. Have a good day.

  • 18 Ian Toon // Dec 5, 2012 at 7:35 AM

Dannyo- good we agree on something. Take it easy mate.

  • 19 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:09 AM

    Good morning Toon fans…

How we all doing? Any new news?

  • 20 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:10 AM

    Ian…Christmas in Denmark you ask!

…well it is over hyped as anywhere else in the western world where it’s all about the wonga’s 😉 Since my brother and I have kids of our own now Christmas means something entirely different to me now.

Truth to be told every third Dane leaves Denmark during Christmas just to get away from it all 🙂

I don’t doubt Lallana is a great player and you are right it is always a good indication if the fans appreciate the player; are you suggesting we spread the good word of both Simmo and Willo? lol

  • 21 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:28 AM

Not really just enjoying the lack of over bearing negativity!!!

  • 22 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:31 AM

Tads…..It sure is nice. Hopefully not too short lived. Shame that it’s not just for the joy of winning that I cheer the team on, but to try and have some form of peace…

So, we’ll know tonight who is joining the EL from the CL. When is the EL draw, I assume all group games are played tomorrow night?

  • 23 Dannyo // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:31 AM

Go back to the last thread last night, the one about Ba, and read mackas7 posts if you haven’t already 😉

  • 24 Dannyo // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:32 AM

Amazing what a win does isn’t it 😉

  • 25 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:32 AM

Dannyo….I saw something about a q&a at SJP, was there something else?

  • 26 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:36 AM

It was last night? The answers were shall we say…vague? 🙂

Not sure what anyone expected mind.

  • 27 Dannyo // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:36 AM

    That’s the one.
Waiting impatiantly for the fella to pop up here with a good long follow up today.

  • 28 Dannyo // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:38 AM

Well, i thought they were as honest as one can get tbh.
Altho my memory doesn’t serve me well at this point of the morning yet.

  • 29 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:38 AM

    buenos días Ibiza!

  • 30 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:45 AM

    Its great!!!

Yeah its strange that when we lose rather than think wow that was poor you instead think ah man the blog’s gonna be a nightmare 😉

  • 31 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:46 AM

Dannyo…I would consider it honest enough to, but still vague…as expected. They wont and I am of the thinking, shouldn’t be too open. It’s a tricky one.

The response to Pardews contract was somewhat amusing. Bet it went down like a led balloon and rightly so 🙂

    Jesper….How are you good sir?

  • 32 bro56 // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:47 AM

i too just skip these stories. so useless now. how can we trust our board to sign new players. We can even manage to tie down the ones already here earning a pittance,. Guthrie, Simpson and maybe Ba…

  • 33 geordie157 // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:48 AM

Corchia will be our new right back!

  • 34 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:49 AM

tads…Indeed. Maybe I have my priorities back to front?

  • 35 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:50 AM

So…teams already dropped from CL to EL.

    1) Dynamo Kiev
    2) Olympiacos
    3) Zenit St Petersberg
    4) Ajax

  • 36 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:52 AM

Ajax toon would be a cracking fixture!

  • 37 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:54 AM

Tads…Absolutely. Not sure my heart could take the build up to it, but if we can continue to press and pass then anything is possible.

Anyone else find it just oh so amusing that Man City don’t have any European football? Will probably take the league or domestic cups by storm now, but hey ho.

  • 38 Rotonda heights // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:56 AM

    Ian Toon

Pardew no favourites h….mm. Don’t know why Guti springs to mind. Or were you being a tad ironic?

Have always liked Lallana but should have gone for him when he was no more than 5M. He, Anita and Cabs would make us play football every game.

By the way come on England we need more wickets.

  • 39 Rotonda heights // Dec 5, 2012 at 8:59 AM

do we want to forge a new contract with simmo?

  • 40 proudtobageordie // Dec 5, 2012 at 5:11 PM

@ mackas7 if you were wondering who michael douglas is well you have got him MOI Yes it is me who prepared the first 3 questions for last nights q&a with pard’s and llambias etc. Unfortunatley we got smashed after the game on monday night and didn’t finish drinking till 6am tuesday. couldn’t lift my head off my pillow lol

  • 41 toonluvva // Dec 5, 2012 at 5:50 PM

If we are to sign anyone, and that is not certain by any means, we must remember that there are 4 games in January (2 at home and 2 away) that we should be looking to win if we are going to finish the season strongly. Therefore, lets hope that we get our targets in during the first few days of January and not be panicing at the end of the month.
