Curtis Not Good For Bradford City

2:46 pm, Friday, December 7th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 169 Comments

Well, would you believe it – Newcastle United’s 19 year-old Australian center-back Curtis Good has caused his current club Bradford City to be kicked out of the FA Cup, because the Bantams did not receive written permission to play Good in the game against Brentford by the 12:00 pm deadline on the day of the match, which ended 1-1 at Valley Parade.

That’s not good.

Curtis Good – has unwittingly had Bradford City eliminated from FA Cup

Curtis joined Bradford City last week on loan but in a personal hearing today Bradford City found out about the charge, and after the meeting the FA issued the following statement:

“The FA has confirmed that Bradford City have been removed from the FA Cup after fielding an ineligible player in their second round tie.” Bradford City did not have the necessary permission for Curtis Good to play in the competition, while on loan from Newcastle United, by the 12:00 pm deadline on Friday November 30 prior to the fixture that evening.”

Bradford have until 5:00 pm today to decide whether they will appeal this ruling, but it seems somebody at Bradford messed up badly, and it cost the Yorkshire club their berth in this season’s FA Cup.

As we said before, that’s not good.

Comments welcome.

All i want is for NUFC to do well.

  • 3 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 7, 2012 at 2:50 PM

Could not care less. At least Good got a game 🙂

Sense or nonsense, its all relative

  • 5 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 7, 2012 at 2:52 PM

No you don’t, all you want is for something to complain about. If all you wanted was for NUFC to do well then how come you disappeared off the blog when things were going well for us at the tail end of last season, you only ever appear when things are going tits up and that is just because you love to stick the boot in instead of actually supporting a club that a lot of people hold dear.

If I actually cared one bit what you thought then your opinion would really rile me, but you’re so unbelievably ridiculous at teams I feel like I am kicking Bambi.

  • 6 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 7, 2012 at 2:53 PM

You’re right. 90% of the blog talk sense. In relation to them, you are in the 10%.

  • 7 Transfer Sage // Dec 7, 2012 at 2:54 PM

maybe he was out celebrating when we were doing well? you never know.

or can we blame good? maybe it’s pardews plan…get every other team out of the FA cup so we win? unorthodox but i like it

  • 8 Indian Magpie // Dec 7, 2012 at 2:54 PM

I disappeared because, Believe it or not i had become satiated with football, with all writing and commenting so wanted a break.

Also i feel disappointed with the Transfer window.

  • 9 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 7, 2012 at 2:55 PM

Somehow I doubt it, perhaps he was sticking pins into a Shola doll, cursing his luck as it should have been him lighting up the PL with his skills instead of Wor Shola…

  • 10 Indian Magpie // Dec 7, 2012 at 2:55 PM

Transfer sage are you Rich toon guy

  • 11 rainrix // Dec 7, 2012 at 2:57 PM

Sage… Sleeper agents? I like it, although its further evidence of pardews ineptitude that the best he can knock out is bradford city.
    Pardew out! 😉

  • 12 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 7, 2012 at 2:57 PM

I mean when you disappeared in the final months of last season, ie February, March, April, May when we had went on a very good run of form and even put ourselves in the reckoning for a CL place.

You were disappointed with the window? We had just bought a 9million pound striker who was scoring goals for fun, what was to be disappointed with? You’re full of it, and when I say “it” I mean lies.

How can anyone take you seriously?

I’m not trawling through the archives to check if you bailed because I know you bailed tail end of last season. How do I know? Because you and I would argue every time you were on the blog, and there were a distinct lack of arguments when we were doing well at the end of the season due to the fact that you weren’t there.

  • 31 IITianToon // Dec 7, 2012 at 3:26 PM

Hope Ed is not a strict taskmaster and throws all you lot out for cricket talk.. By the way Dhoni sucks big time.

The reason Marv lost the ball a lot of times yesterday was someone came from behind and nicked it off him. Marv is a quick thinker and likes to pick out people in space, however there were none yesterday and thats why he held the ball longer than he should have, giving a chance to opposition players to outmuscle him off the ball. Thats one weak aspect of Marvs play, he cant hold the ball in presence of physical pressure. Otherwise the lads a brilliant footballer.

  • 32 Pardews Perfect Battleplan // Dec 7, 2012 at 3:28 PM

he was a happier fellow. little mention of ameobi

  • 33 tequilamag // Dec 7, 2012 at 3:29 PM

Indian can`t remember whether you were on or off and if you say you only want Newcastle to do well I will take your word for it.
However that is not the impression you give. I can`t remember a single post you have made giving praise only criticism. You seem obsessed with slating Shola and I had dismissed as you as a one trick pony as I heard little else from you. I now realise I as wrong as you have joined in with anti-Pardew crowd who don`t think beyond the most simplistic of analysis constantly picking fault without considering any other factors.

  • 34 Indian Magpie // Dec 7, 2012 at 3:29 PM

dhoni should retire instead of sachin

  • 35 Blaydon-Toon // Dec 7, 2012 at 3:29 PM

  • 37 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 7, 2012 at 3:33 PM

Ok Ok Cook is awesome but didn’t ground his bat and was run out.

    Back to NUFC now?

How does everyone think we will fare against Fulham?

  • 38 Indian Magpie // Dec 7, 2012 at 3:34 PM

tequila you talk about me not talking positively, if you have time see this page it has all the articles that have written.

have a look, you may change your opinion.

  • 39 Blaydon-Toon // Dec 7, 2012 at 3:40 PM

Ok back on the football …. Ruddy I think trip to Fulham will be a tough game as they are pretty solid at home but I def think we could get a victory not sure who said Hangerland was injured but if that is indeed the case I think we can cause them a lot of problems. Would be nice to score from a set play but I can see us nicking it 0-1 Marv corner Demba header 🙂

  • 40 tequilamag // Dec 7, 2012 at 3:41 PM

Indian I have an open mind, I will check them out when I have some spare time. I would ask you though to think about the impression you give when you post on the blog. Your articles may be more even handed but it is not the impression I get from your posts.

  • 41 tequilamag // Dec 7, 2012 at 3:43 PM

Blaydon I think Hangeland is passed fit but Ruiz is out. Hard game to call, not one I would care to bet on.

  • 42 IITianToon // Dec 7, 2012 at 3:44 PM

@Blaydon Hangeland is playing tomorrow according to the official PL site. And I would love it if we score from a set piece.. problem is we have never come close to even threatening from a set piece, let alone scoring from one.

  • 43 bettyswallocks // Dec 7, 2012 at 3:45 PM

I think Pardew is finally realising that most of our reserve team with a couple of exceptions are not likely to make the grade .

If we aspire to be a top four side one day which is supposedly Ashleys intention then he needs to be made aware that none of our youngsters would be included in any of the top 4 squads never mind teams.

It doesnt take a genius to see that young players like Sterling from Liverpool etc. are obviously going to have a massive future in the game.

How long do we give our twenty somthings to realise their potential.

Lets not delude ourselves most of them are only ok.

This next window will tell us a lot about our real ambitions.
We need two defenders as a priority so that our midfield can attack instead of covering the sh.t defence and also some more attack minded flair players.

Whether Pardew will ever play more than one flair player at a time however is questionable.

He likes his DM S too much

  • 44 IITianToon // Dec 7, 2012 at 3:47 PM

By the way is there any prize for winning the NUFC Blog fantasy league on the official site? I am in the top 15 and so was just wondering..

  • 45 Blaydon-Toon // Dec 7, 2012 at 3:51 PM

IT i never expect much now but I like Marvs delivery and think it is an area we seriously need to work on ! Like u said we never look close to scoring its not like we have hit the woodwork or gone just past the post or keeper defenders making goal line clearances ! Aim for Willo he fouls someone and we all fun back – ANNOYING !

  • 49 Rotonda heights // Dec 7, 2012 at 4:32 PM

Why shouldn’t it be simplistic? Football is a simple game, sometimes ruined by over – analysis and coaching robots spawned by the FA.

I have got my EUFA part B badges but I don’t believe in anything the FA say and have learnt far more from studying Coerver and futebol de salao coaching methods etc, where the emphasis is on skill and passing and moving.

I don’t buy the ” pardew has to play that way with the resources he’s got” Especially not with the likes of Benny and Marveaux. Surely he could get Willo and Simmo on the training ground practicing 5 and 10 yard passes. Anita, Cabs and Tiote is as good a middle 3 as it gets.

Prior to the Wigan game I was very anti Pardew because as transfer sage said we realised a long time ago we were never going to win anything but we just want to see some good football played.

Pardew buys in to the FA’s P.O.M.O (position of maximum opportunity) which in short = hoofing it.
But against Wigan and last season for 6/7 games Pardew saw another successful and better way to play and I just hope to god against Fulham he doesn’t revert to 442 hoofball against the giant Hangeland.

    Tsunki Sir,

How did i do that, was i typing in my sleep again

  • 52 89Norcal // Dec 7, 2012 at 4:48 PM

I’m crossing my fingers that Pardew at least sticks with 4-2-3-1 for now after it’s apparent success with resolving our striker conflict vs Wigan. Cisse didn’t score but he was in position numerous times which is what him and Ba want.

After all, Pardew stuck with 4-3-3 after it’s initial success last year, up until he realized how much it hampers Ba’s influence on the game.

  • 53 Tsunki // Dec 7, 2012 at 4:49 PM

Indian – just observing the reaction to your posts of late – seems you are irritating new people as well as old favourites. Pity because I thought this time you were really trying hard to contribute rather than moan about shola. Have you ever considered its the way your expressions appear in English? Just a thought.

hi, everyone, warm welcome from india, delhi to b precise. i know its a football site , but cook is really cooking soup, sorry for the fun. as far fulham goes, i dont know but i am quietly confident, i beileve this team does best when the pressure is off, we are still not comfortable with the favourites tag, as a result struggles against so called lower teams,

  • 57 Tsunki // Dec 7, 2012 at 5:00 PM

Right there Indian – where you might have said ‘No, hadnt thought about that possibility’ you chose the no, never have never will apporoach. Ha ha.

I’m observing, not insulting mate. What I was suggesting is that although your english is very good (better than many… Ok won’t go that route lol) perhaps expressions in your own language and culture translate uneasily into Englosh and come across as brusque, sometimes rude. English is renowned for being structured on polite expressions, and not observing some of them could make what you think is a matter of fact observation seem personally rude. Trying to help here.

  • 62 nick_9 // Dec 7, 2012 at 5:13 PM

Glad Pardew is finally realising that the youngsters need game time but not at our expense. Sammy Ameobi is very raw as is Shane Ferguson. Ship them out when we have players back and let them get some game time elsewhere. Dont send them to league one, send them to a championship club. Ranger, Abeid, Ferguson, Tavernier, Sammy Ameobi could all prove their worth in that league, yet when our current first eleven struggles to string five passes together unless its in defense then they are never going to flourish. I believe if you are good enough you are good enough despite age but agree that some of the young players need game time to find their feet. We do not have the players to suit 4:4:2 and loyalty to certain players or being unambitious or cheap in the window is costing us. I am a paying fan, i want to see us winning or at least giving it our all. Instead i see us struggling for ideas (even against ten men) and persisting with silly set pieces that statistically do not work.

Ba is the first strikers since Shearer to reach double figures for us in consecutive seasons, it is likely that Cisse will do the same. Two good players and with flair players like marveaux and ben arfa and god techinical players in cabaye, anita and tiote (passes have been wayward lately and cost us against southampton) we should be playing better. I cant remember the last time we looked dominant against a team.

Fulham away is a tricky game, head says a draw is decent heart says we need the win. Ruiz is out, Berbatov has class but is sluggish. Damien Duff should be given a gentle warning by Tiote. Hoofing wont work if they have ivan Drago at the back. 4:5:1 has to be the way forward, get marv and benny winning some freekicks and toite/perch/anita/jonas providing some steal. Tiote and Jonas both a booking away from missing a game

  • 63 FatmanJoe // Dec 7, 2012 at 5:37 PM

The in laws bought me tickets for Monday as my Christmas present. Excited but worried! We’re not looking good at the moment and fulham will exploit our weaknesses.

On the plus side anita’s looking good. With decent players around him we could match them.

  • 64 Super Magpie // Dec 7, 2012 at 6:32 PM

Last night showed that our youngsters are not good enough IMO. They should be sent out on loan and if they haven’t improved by then, then I feel they should be sold on. Elliot should definitely be no.2 to Krul. He made some great saves last night. Surprisingly,Ranger also impressed me too, he seemed committed to the team. It’s just a shame that everyone else wasn’t…

And Williamson. I might be classed as a Willo ‘basher’ and using him as a scapegoat but the lad really is abysmal. Most of the team was dire last night but he seems so incapable of passing the ball on the ground. It’s either back to Krul, or hoof it. I don’t even have to say anything about the 2nd goal.

I was so disappointed with last nights performance, not much the result though as I expected us to get beat. But I didn’t see much commitment from these players. Maybe its because they knew we were through and couldn’t be bothered to play but I expect younger players to show more determination than that. They should be trying to prove to the manager that they can play in the starting 11. No chance after that, even Pardew admitted that by saying they need to go out on loan. Hopefully we can pick up 3 points against Fulham on Monday, it will set us up nicely for Man City and QPR.

its idiot pieces of shit like you why our club will never amount to anything,
your life must be great, i guess you dont want the best for your kids, you dont want to better yourself in any way, and see no reason why others around you should want any better

i believe in your head all is well with the club, its just a lean spell, you never question anything, only believe what you are told,
if you caught your wife banging someone you would say its ok,, it was my fault, and forgive her

i wonder if you have ever even been to a game, i wonder even more if you have ever played the game

your the kind of person that dosent even see an opertunity until its gone,, say good bye to this one

i have no clue why you go on so much about the board and how they let pardew down in the summer,, the board have nothing to do with the fact, we dont look like a team, regardless of who he plays

its great you can have a go at me, but the club you love is going down the drain fast and you just want to sit and watch it sink,, then when it happens,, you will blame the likes of me,

    f**king idiot

    Super….It’s a quiet one….well it was….

Catchy….Can you please explain this line for me?

“its idiot pieces of s**t like you why our club will never amount to anything”

First of all, I’m assuming Ruddy said something about you, did he call you something terrible for you to call him a piece of s**t?

Secondly, are you suggesting the clubs lack of progression is down to fans who have some faith in the manager?

Lastly, that the board are not a problem and it’s just Pardew?

    yup he sure did

    and yup, i sure am,,

i see no reason why he blamed the kids last night, then said i will send them out on loan, like its a punishment for failing with his plan

he made 9 changes from a team that won, but where second best to a 10 man team, (result great ) performance was very poor,
then he plays them kids with our worst senior players, simo perch and wilo shola

surly the thing to do is if your gona weaken the squad, you get rid of the dead wood, keep the kids as back up

how are the kids any worse than the 4 i mentioned?

i dont think same fans, you included, actually listen to the words that come out of his mouth,,

None of that answered anything Catchy, other than the fact you dislike Pardew.

What is it your doing to save Newcastle then and helping us amount to something? All you do, like anyone else, is chat on a blog. Fans like Ruddy are not the problem and neither are fans like you. Such a ridiculous comment.

I agree, Pardews comments about the youth players were wrong and served no real benefit. I didn’t see the game, but apparently no one (except Ranger for a change) actually looked like they cared, I can see why that would be disappointing to Pardew. It may not have been an easy win, but I expect he thought they’d give it a go to try and stake a claim.

3 goals doesn’t change much, but it ‘s a start. It was an improvement which is what we wanted, well most of us. No one expected great things last night, nor did we need to with Fulham game comping up and EL qualification already secured. It was a test that no one came out of very well, a test that had no major impact on anything.

It is a pointless discussion though, as you weren’t even half happy last year, so it’s clear that you’ll never be happy whilst Pardew is manager, even if we’re doing well (I know you can’t just look at the table, but you need to give yourself a break and enjoy aspects of the club as it is).

i think it is his fault

last jan,, our priority was defence, the summer defence was our prioriy, nothing happened,
he would rather say something nice about the shit them 2 leave him in than go on the attack,,

if like some of the posters think on here, they say who would manage the club if he went, maybe that is his power he can use, apparently no one would touch the job,

by doing what he does , he shows himself up as a puppet every time,

This is a very serious question. Why don’t you ever shut up? You are a ridiculous human being, every word you spout is vitriolic nonsense, I love how worked up you get at every little thing as you further promote this idea of you as an incredibly frustrated sack of sadness.

Do yourself and everyone else a favour and step away from the computer.

  • 92 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 7, 2012 at 7:19 PM

Catchy…It’s not a question of “no one” touching the club, but If Pardew went who of any worth would?

You’ve given some suggestions, but it is only speculation as to whether they would manage us. Sometimes any change is needed, whether it seems to be a better option or not, but are we really in that sort of crisis where anything is better than what we have?

  • 93 Graeme // Dec 7, 2012 at 7:19 PM

YO, would have to say, love is so much better than angst and aggravation; it brings peace and tranquillity instead.

  • 94 tequilamag // Dec 7, 2012 at 7:20 PM

Catchy every man and his dog knows when it comes to transfers Pardew does not have the final say. It would be exactly the same with any other manager that comes in.
Defence is the one area Pardew has not been able to bring in his own players. There is no way that is by choice.
Whatever issues Newcastle have it`s simplistic to think that all of the problems are down to the manager.

Catchy just reread your post are you really suggesting Pardew should resign because he can`t the players he wants?
Would you resign if you disagreed with your bosses decision ? If everyone did that the whole country would be on the dole. And why should you he give up a job in the PL..It`s not like jobs like that come up every day

  • 100 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 7, 2012 at 7:27 PM

Catchy…Thanks for posting that and saving me trawling.

It was harsh, all we know of each other is an online persona, not the real person, the one in the real world.

As far as I see you on this blog, whilst Ruddys assessment was harsh, it isn’t completely untrue either. You almost always (I put almost in there more out of politeness) pick up on anything that could be perceived as negative. The word crusade has been thrown about and it’s not far off.

Clearly we all view things differently, but your views seem really far fetched to me and it would seem to others also, there can’t not be middle ground as far as Pardew is concerned. Are there better managers? Yes. Are there worse managers? Yes.

Middle ground. That might not be good enough for you, but this will take some patience. There are many factors to consider and Pardew is not at fault for all of them as you so often try and make out.

We should all have high expectations, but it’s usually advisable to keep them somewhat realistic, imo you’re not.

  • 102 Dannyo // Dec 7, 2012 at 7:30 PM

I thought Anita really to charge of the midfield when he came on, he’s going to be such a great player.
Abeid, Tav, Ranger and Biggie all with flashes of “brilliance”. Not the right word there perhaps, but they’re showing they can do this but need games to get to a consistant level.
Abeid has really bulked up quite a bit imo.

  • 103 jimmysmith // Dec 7, 2012 at 7:31 PM

The return of HBA and the emergence of Anita has me feeling more confident, then again it’s the hope that kills you. All it would take is for Pards to commit to Marv in an attacking midfield role and for him to move Guti to right back with Cisse down the middle and Ba roaming to the right and I’ll be my old vulnerable, hopeful self again.

I have to say many people were calling for Abeid to be given a chance (including me) however in his last two games he has been shocking. Other than one shot last night he may as well have snook off the pitch and had a 90 minute napp. Is it the end for him at NUFC ? I don’t think so but Pardew needs to start loaning out some of our better youngsters so they can develop against tougher opposition rather than giving them a one or two game ultimatum every few months.

I don’t think Abeid wasn’t that poor looked like he tried to play it safe most of the time.. I was actually surprised by his ability to get in a tackle. He needs to attack space more and be more daring tho which can depend on confidence/pardews orders/playing time

  • 140 jimmysmith // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:00 PM

Of the young players we have, including Vuckic, Tavs, Fergie. Sammy, etc. The two I have most confidence in are Bigi, self evidently and Abeid, who seems to have the physical presence and technique to succeed at a high level. If Sammy fills out and calms down, he’s also a big chance, but as Pards likes to say, the Newcastle shirt is a heavy one and for three to make the breakthrough would be a long shot indeed.

You know how you get a feeling about players, I think that’s a tacit sense that a player has the all round attributes to succeed, and it’s so often a reliable barometer. That said, I think Abeid can become a top player and hopefully will be turning it on at the Toon in the years to come. A loan spell in the Championship is needed. In me ever so ‘umble opinion, of course.

  • 141 Pardews Perfect Battleplan // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:11 PM

@jimmy there’s something about abeid. he just seems to have it physically. if he puts his mind to it he could be really good. bigi is proving why pards is high on him. i think if vickic can go without injuries for a while he will show much improvement

  • 142 Graeme // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:12 PM

  • 143 willowdalerez // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:14 PM

Pardew said he’s looking to loan out our developing talent which is good news! They will get played and with the squad so thin (after taking into account that those returning from injuries that can’t be relied on yet) Ashley will have to bring some new players in.

Anyone have any real idea who Pards is looking at?

  • 144 Graeme // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:14 PM

Pardew’s – Vikuk can be a superb player; I watched him play before his latest bough of injuries; he looked like a younger Bekenbaur the way he moved around the midfield, was good to watch

  • 145 willowdalerez // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:16 PM

  • 146 Pardews Perfect Battleplan // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:22 PM

  • 149 Pardews Perfect Battleplan // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:33 PM

@graeme his ability to rocket a 30 yarder to within a foot of the top corner is impressive. was unlucky to hit the woodwork rather than score a few

  • 151 Graeme // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:43 PM

  • 152 cata-TOON-ic // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:44 PM

Leet’s hope Pards doesn’t send out the youngsters to Rangers on the orders of Mashley. Even Kets would get a game in the Scottish third division.
And let’s face it we don’t really have anyone who is ready to slot into our starting eleven…say compared with Sterling at bindippers. Pardew’s criticisms were more of a lack of effort rather than ability. Our lads have all got a way to go and even then after half a season with regular games for a club like Cardiff might not be good enough. Cough cough mind. Willo wouldn’t get regular games at Cardiff either.

We’re doomed, doomed I tell ya third from bottom by the end of January, doomed.

  • 155 Rake // Dec 7, 2012 at 11:28 PM

    Never doubt Spiderman
But seriously the obvious problem with Jonas is being made told to defend so much he isn’t in an attacking mindset. When he’s on the wing he needs to attack the fullback. No point passing blame on Pardew or anyone else to me that’s the short of it 🙂
    (and some practice crossing)

  • 156 willowdalerez // Dec 7, 2012 at 11:43 PM

In the transfer window I am hoping we bring in at least one (even two) speedy defender and an option to Ba up front… Anybody else concerned that he has more than half our goals and options to replace him if he goes down with a re-injury are downright scary with who we’ve got (can you see a 4-4-2 dependent on Shola as the regular big man)? and there could be no chance of a 4-5-1 working out because Cisse is too small!

Only club I can think of equally vulnerable to one player going down has to be Liverpool!
