Newcastle Linked With Top Young French Defender

10:03 am, Friday, December 7th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 221 Comments

Expect Newcastle to be linked with a number of players in the next eight weeks or so before the end of the January transfer window, with definite signs that Newcastle United will enter the market next month.

Massadio Haïdara – top young French defender

And there is news in France that Newcastle are interested in 19 year-old Nancy full-back Massadio Haïdara, who has already played a couple of times for the France U21 side, and plays for Nancy in France’s top league.

Massadio was born in Trappes, France back in 1992, and only turned 19 last Sunday, and he is one of the best young French players, and an exciting player to watch.

He is of Senegal descent, and plays as a left back and made his professional debut on 11th December 2010,  in a league match against Sochaux, having only just turned 17.

Newcastle may need to bring in another full back in January, in case Danny Simpson leaves the club, and it can be a left back or right back, since Davide Santon can play on either side.

This lad would look like an excellent acquisition, and in January of last year he signed his first professional contract and agreed to a three-year deal with Nancy, and we have to assume that Chief Scout Graham Carr has been watching the lad.

Massadio has played 40 times for Nancy with one goal – does anybody know about this player?

Comments welcome.

Haïdara and sissokho and remy plz

  • 2 Carryingcoals // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:15 AM

Whilst he would be a beneficial to the club long term and is in line with our club policy, for me he’s not the right kind of player we need to be bringing in come January.

I don’t know if this is even worth commenting on because it could be pure fabrication but if we see a centre back come in during january who is a teenager with ‘a bright future ahead of him’ we want to take a long hard look at ourselves.

We need players who can come in to the side NOW. Who are 23/24/25 and can play straight away.

Been hearing a lot about this lad over the last few months and hoped we would be linked with him. There are some cracking compilation videos of him on YouTube. Here’s hoping its not just all paper talk! Very promising player.

Going back to Pardew being disappointed in his youngsters, what about Williamson and Jonas, dickhead, Willo was embarrassing last night, time on the ball – hoof, maybe put foot on ball and pass along the back, no here comes the Hoof.

Jonas now contributes nothing of note. Personally thought most of the young uns did OK barring Sammy who seems to have completely lost the plot, his brother seems the same, think things arent all rosy in the dressing room personally.

Pardews gameplan and approach are to blame, nobody else, he is totally devoid of any idea of how to actually play pass and move football. clueless to an absolute extreme.

  • 7 Pardews Perfect Battleplan // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:50 AM

Indian do you pay attention to our club? there’s like a 0.1% chance we’d loan in. we’re actually many times more likely to buy.

  • 8 Indian Magpie // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:52 AM

Okay, there may not be a loan, but i don’t think we will buy.

  • 9 Ian Toon // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:53 AM

Carrying- We’re looking to provide more depth to the squad and particularly defensively. Age is not the issue think of Santon.. So that if we’re hit by injuries and suspensions were not faced with having to throw in players like Ferguson, Tavernier and Sammy who are just not ready.

I dont think we’ll sign anybody, if we do it will probably be some 18 year old kid not ready for the first team.

  • 11 Indian Magpie // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:56 AM

PPB during Jan 2011, we loaned Ireland and were close to loaning Puncheon. i was thinking on those lines

  • 12 Pardews Perfect Battleplan // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:56 AM

Indian i think we’ll buy but only realistically think it’ll be 1 first team & 1 youngster at most.

  • 13 BelfastMagpie // Dec 7, 2012 at 10:57 AM

You usually pay over the odds in January too. Doubt they’d be up for doing that.

@Indian i totally understand that but we got burnt with Ireland. ash is unlikely to risk paying out money for no ownership. especially if they get injured like Ireland.

    Why is he ineligible?

Dannyo… He likely wasn’t registered in time for the match, seeing as he’s on loan from another club in the competition you’d likely have to go through some loopholes. Presumably there was a mistake in admin or communication and so they accidentally fielded him when he wasn’t allowed to play.

  • 37 catchy in norway // Dec 7, 2012 at 11:57 AM

ppl might think this is hatred of pardew, but its not, he ran out of making excuses so he blamed the kids,,
these same kids that where the shining light a few weeks ago, these kids where playing much better than the first team in the early games in europe,

i find it very strange that he can have a go a the kids, when in the first team he has many players under performing,
players like simpson and williamson, to even cisse cabaye, should we send them out on loan to?

  • 39 Mister Tuff // Dec 7, 2012 at 11:58 AM

Parsnip appears to be trying to get the Newcastle train wreck back on track. He is declaring publicly the need to strengthen the squad in January and he is additionally stating that some of the youngsters (who they thought would step up to the first team and fill in for the purples) are simply not up to it -yet -that seemed apparent from last nights displays. Some of the “youngsters” need another season learning their trade, whilst others do not appear to be of the required grade.
Therefore I am very encouraged that we will have a busy January transfer window – with players who can slot straight into the first team. My only doubts are Dastardly being involved initially in transfer discussions and Parsnip agreeing the purchase further “duffers” like Obertan.
Other than that I am cautiously optimistic about the second half of the season.

  • 40 Carryingcoals // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:00 PM

Carrying- We’re looking to provide more depth to the squad and particularly defensively. Age is not the issue think of Santon.. So that if we’re hit by injuries and suspensions were not faced with having to throw in players like Ferguson, Tavernier and Sammy who are just not ready.

I think you miss my point. Santon is almost 22. He’d played a lot for U21’s, for Inter and had big experience.

I’ acknowledge that we need to provide squad depth but what I’m saying is that signing this kid (19) is exactly the same as throwing in the likes of players you mentioned. I don’t think this guy would be ready and seems one for the future, I’d prefer a ready made player who can come straight in to the team. Not a 27 year old as that wouldnt be inline with club policy but someone who is already fairly established and not a rookie like the players we throw in when our stars are injured.

  • 41 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:00 PM

That’s the first time I have heard the silver supremo being refered to as a vegetable ;D lol

  • 42 Carryingcoals // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:02 PM

I’d like the centre half we sign to be able to slot straight in to the team and not be an up and comer akin to the likes of Sammy etc who we see and aren’t good enough right now. We need someone who can come in straight away, providing depth that way rather than be another person in the one for the future pile.

  • 43 rainrix // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:04 PM

Shows how fast opinion changes on here. After the brugge match people were clambering for sammy to start in the league, now after a couple of bad performances he’s useless apparently, awesome 🙂

  • 44 Mister Tuff // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:07 PM

jesper – re “Parsnip” I confess I stole the term from another poster on here. I think the logic is similar to what happened a few years ago when Grahame Taylor was referred to as being a turnip in one of the popular newspapers.

  • 45 Pardews Perfect Battleplan // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:10 PM

@rainrix fans are fickle. i don’t think.sammy is ready. he’s got consistency issues.
and is it me or does he always make breathing look like hard work?

  • 46 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:10 PM

Rainrix…I think the problem with likes of Sammy is that since our first team is very thin of experience and quillity at the moment these young lads are just going break their neck trying and doesn’t help when Pards throws 6 or 7 in there at the same time

…they need to evolve and thruth to be told they would do that better out on loan. You can end up doing more harm than good if you neglect this!

  • 47 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:12 PM

  • 49 Blaydon-Toon // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:15 PM

Think a lot of posters on here my self included said Sammy had bags of potential but decision making and final ball are terrible! The lad has some great tekkers (skills) but needs to hone his ability out on loan … Shane out squad is so small and we can’t afford to loose players on the fringes !

  • 50 rainrix // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:17 PM

PPB… Dont get me wrong i don’t think he’s fully ready either, although theres enough evidence to see theres a talented footballer there, some fans seem happy to write him off entirely already 😐

Jesper… Its not ideal them being broken in this way agreed but hey it has to happen sooner rather than later. If we had a fully fit squad most of them wouldn’t even make the bench. Its a chance for players like sammy to say i deserve a place on the bench more than player x. Obviously in that situation you’d send them on loan but we don’t have that luxury atm. They have to learn to handle pressure so might as well do it now :).

  • 51 Pardews Perfect Battleplan // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:19 PM

@blaydon he’s got skill, he’s quick but he struggles to find his team mates. bit like obertan in that way.

  • 52 Rotonda heights // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:19 PM

I reserve final judgement on pardew till Fulham.

There were signs of ”pass and move” green shoots recovery against Wigan, albeit against 10 men.

Last night though was a horrible return to hoofball, but with litle riding on it I’m not desperately upset. However, we have now effectively lost 5 out of the last 6 all ”winnable” games.

If we start lumping it against Fulham with the giant Hangeland, I will be joining Catchy and co again.

  • 53 Transfer Sage // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:20 PM

sammy seems very much like his brother

the odd bit of skill but lacks consistency and rarely has an end product.

He is still young so has time but he needs a full season on loan….players his age…ince and zaha in championship are miles ahead…they get first team football every week though.

  • 54 rainrix // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:24 PM

Sage… In an ideal world he would be out on loan but we don’t have the ability. Some players can thrive being thrown into the deep end some don’t , our current crop don’t seem like they can

In regards to his skills he does play like you said, although it says many things when he’s the joint top assister at the club for this season 🙂

  • 55 Mister Tuff // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:25 PM

I think that the “youngsters/fringe players” were intended to be the safety net to keep our season on track following the “great summer no buy gamble”. Clearly we now realise that some of these players are not up to it – yet. (and some probably never). Two observations are that young Fergie is definitely not a fullback – he is tidy with the ball but without the ball looks a bit lost.
Sammy seems a bit of an enigma -looks awkward and clumsy but he has definitely got one or two tricks up his sleeve – seems to have ability to beat the first man but then runs into trouble. He should get better.

  • 56 Pardews Perfect Battleplan // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:25 PM

  • 59 Conaldo (The Wizard...Also Bestest Friends With Paul Scharner) // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:30 PM

Catchy – I think you’re just finding excuses to hate Pardew now like. He’s not blaming the kids, he’s saying they aren’t good enough to fill a full team of them. Which they aren’t.
Abeid, tav, fergie, sammy, marveaux, where all dreadful yesterday. As where perch willaumson and shola.

If we can get senior players in in January, I would be loaning out abeid, tav, cambell, good, Inman,
Hell pretty much all the youngsters need some experience

I would say sammy and fergie are the closest to the first team. People who are still spouting this abeid is better than messi crap need to realise he isn’t as good as they think. He needs experience and he needs to start showin what he can do or he won’t have a future.

I am not one for writing players off or slagging them off undeservedly, but based on what I’ve seen from them, tavernier and abeid need to step it up soon or they just won’t cut it.

What we have learned from the start to the season is that although the “Pardew is the anti-Christ” crew say we have a big enough squad, we don’t. We might have 35 players or whatever it is, but realistically only about 15 or maybes even less are around the proper first team level. That isn’t enough to play in the premier league and other competitions.

  • 60 Magpie from Lithuania // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:30 PM

Ranger did really well Tav too, Sammy and Fergie were good enough, bigi abeid and anita was ok, but perch and willo were under par las night. We lost because of the senior players fault. If demba and ranger would have been form the start we would have scored and with colo and proper defender along side him we woulnd have conceded. Willo was too slow all night, tav should have played CB, and i think Campbell would have had a chance if we were leading the game in the second half.. it is a shame it went this way, two poor goals Perch-Willo combo – watch again. I dont bash anything i like those too but fact is that we need better denders that’s it. Perch is CDM for me not a CB.

yeh some thrive when thrown in…rooney, fabregas, wilshire, to name just a few.

the problem is kids never do well when you throw 6/7 in all at once

last night was a totally meaningless exercise in determing who is and isn’t ready to step up.

  • 66 Indian Magpie // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:35 PM

  • 67 Conaldo (The Wizard...Also Bestest Friends With Paul Scharner) // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:35 PM

I’m not trying to say they youngsters aren’t good. I’m trying to say they aren’t good enough to play a team full of youngsters. We did well in Europe before because we had a mixture of first team and youngsters.

As Pardew said the youngsters may not get a better chance than last night to show what they can do. They won’t get too much game time in the next round and I think pards will play a close to full strength team for the FA Cup.

All the youngsters need to step it up, or they won’t make it simple as that.

  • 69 rainrix // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:38 PM

Sage… Well obviously the 1st priority last night was making sure no 1st teamers were injured, under normal circumstances you wouldn’t play 7 kids anyway, and yet some people on here take it as the end of the world 🙂 and people then write off some of them instantaneously when its difficult for them like you say.

  • 73 Transfer Sage // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:40 PM

I think first team players should have played.

You can’t wrap players in cotton wool, we get a lot of injuries in training anyway so easy to get injured even when not playing games.

The problem we have with europe is we chaneg a whole team and the lads dont get the full week to prepare.

If we were more consistent in team for prem and europe i think we would be doing a little better….it works for spurs.

Us and liverpool rottate 8/9 players and spurs rotate maybe 2/3 max and spurs, all be it with a better squad, are wel ahead of us and livepool

  • 74 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:42 PM

Numba….I don’t think winning something is anywhere near the objective right now. Doesn’t mean they wont try to win, but that Ashley wont finance it outright. He will do so slowly and more than likely through youth.

Only questions really are, will it work and when? Arsenal whilst a good model, it doesn’t provide much silverware, but it could.

  • 80 numba9 // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:45 PM

pals or not pressure must be applied to these idiots or else pardew is not doing his job regarding the fans , so he is losing our faith. to only spend 3 mil net after a successful season is stupid esp after letting decent squad members leave in numbers. and the caroll nolan money has hardly been touched, who is laughing at us?

  • 81 Carryingcoals // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:46 PM

I think we are taking the right approach but as fans patience is the hardest thing to maintain.

We need to be pragmatic. Yes spend wisely, yes invest heavily in youth however don’t be so strict that we restrict ourselves.

In January we may have to pay over the odds. ie If a centre back who is good enough to slot straight in to our team is valued at 5 million and thats what we rate him as although the club demand more, it would be better to pay a couple more million for him than let him slip away

I do appreciate how hard it is to find the balance but I do think that whilst our policy is rational and the way forward, we need to bring players when needed and if that means breaking the rigidity of our policy then so be it.

  • 82 Transfer Sage // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:46 PM

I don’t care about trophies anyway. If I wanted that I’d support man utd or city.

What I want is to see my local team play some good football and compete in most games, play in the prem league, Europe if possible and achieve a decent finish.

Charlie….Are we discussing the idea of “losing” Ashley? Come on now, haven’t you seen the bloke?

PPB…So it’s not you 🙂 That would never happen…although the Tiote bit sounds likely 😉

Good to have you back good sir. I’m still recovering.

Carrying….Absolutely there needs to be a balance is what type of players we buy and in all honesty, since Ashley arrived there has been. My main point is really for those wanting to “win” something, it will take time as we will continue to buy a mix of 1st team and future and build slowly. To become a dominant force quickly he would have to spend more in theory and that is extremely unlikely.

The big if in all of this is how long we can hold on to star players. If we can maintain the squad and improve it window to window then I don’t see why in a year or two we wont be in much better shape than we are now. All in theory of course.

TS….I’m half with you and half not. Whilst we’d all like to win something, it is not something I expect now or anytime soon really. We will have to continue to assess our chances as it’s realistically only going to come in a cup and there is no way to guess such things, regardless of your squad.

I’m not sold on the idea that we wont win anything under Ashley, did anyone think Birmingham would win the league cup or Fulham would reach the EL final? Chances come.

  • 94 Carryingcoals // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:57 PM

I agree about the Arsenal model but judging by what it is now, what about the Man United model?

They have a great academy, they heavily invest in youth – ok some of the best youth in the world, but they still nurture and develop.

However there also seems to be great dimensions to their policy. Like they go out and buy an RVP or they go out and spend when someone is available.

I’m not suggesting we be like Man U on that scale but I do think we should continue with youth although once in a while buy a player for more many than we might value him at or buy a player over 26 if he will improve the team. I’m not talking millions on the scale of Man U but it is surely feasible to splash out a bit and not have such a restricted policy and attitude.

I thought ashley had turned around last season…brought in cabaye, santon, demba ba, marvoux, gave new contracts to krul and colo, then signed cisse…thought he had learned his lesson.

Then this season sold forster, best, lovenkrands and smith left, and we only brought in 1 first teamer (2if you count bigi but he isn’t a regular who will push for a place).

If he doesn’t sign the 2 defenders we desperately need in january he will have sunk right back down in to where he started with me.

  • 96 Ian Toon // Dec 7, 2012 at 12:59 PM

Carrying- I did not mention “this kid”. What I thought I had said was that there was some merit in buying/ loaning experienced PL players( maybe at the end of their contract) who could make a like contribution when the current purple was injured/ suspended rather than throw in prospects. There are many ways of improving the depth and quality of a squad. Just ask Harry Redknapp. Just because we haven’t followed this practice recently doesn’t mean you should rule it out. I was suggesting that it’s not a age but an bility issue. I hope this explains my suggestion more clearly.

To be honest mate I think we’re on a totally different wave length this morning

To me it seemed I judged the player as one for the future and akin to the likes of Sammy etc who aren’t ready players for the side at present. I thought you were arguing for depth whereas I was arguing for a ready made player to come in and do a job.

If that wasn’t the case perhaps we got our wires crossed. In fact reading your latest comment again I would 100% agree with you. I think we are arguing the same point ha.

Rotonda….It is a great blue print, I actually feel a little sorry that it hasn’t received more success to date, more for belief within football that me wanting Arsenal to do well (of course).

Wenger is a great manager, but let’s look at the situation. Since they really implemented their plan, they have been on a slow and steady decline, could we not argue that is Wengers fault? Is he not as good as we assume or is it a board matter?

At the beginning Wenger was backed with decent purchases and a decent team to start with, so you would expect him to do well, can we judge Pardew the same way?

The only major thing that is obvious to the eye is Wengers determination to play passing football, we have not seen the same from Pardew as of yet, only in glimpses.

I still think it’s too early to judge Pardew at this point, but each fan is different as we know only too well.

On last nights game….I actually can’t believe some of you and I’m not meaning to be an arse about it.

If Pardew had selected a team with more quality and people had been injured you’d be going mental about the Fulham game.

Truth is, it would have been good to finish top (as it’s turned out, there are tough and easier games in both the unseeded and seeded pots), but it wasn’t essential, was it?

As for the style of performance, why is it that we assume Pardew tells them to thump the ball up the field? It might just be inexperience and panic which you would somewhat expect from the team put out.

    Why the angst today?

Out of interest, how did Marveaux play last night? Did he maintain his form?

Transfer. I personally don’t like to see how quick the less enlightened poster is to criticise Jonas. Not that I am suggesting that your one of them. But there are posters who are too quick to judge experienced players dip in form. I recall a number some of the same posters who were also highly critical of Cabaye. Given the nature of his injury it is apparent that he was struggling post Euro’s and was advised at that time to rest by physio’s /medic’s rather than undergo surgery. This explains his late return to actually kicking a ball. You mentioned Jonas’ inability to centre etc well he’s been seen clipping rather than kicking through the ball which suggests he’s suffering from an adductor muscle strain- which are muscles in the inner thigh. He’s almost certainly on anti inflammatory medications. He’s also been using a power plate to ease the condition. Jonas is not the first player to play through the pain barrier . I understand he’s fit for Fulham which is good news.

  • 115 Rotonda heights // Dec 7, 2012 at 1:21 PM

People assume it because it happens match after match from seasoned internationals to the youngsters last night. That’s his general blueprint but we had a day off against Wigan which made a lovely change for once

As you say Wenger is known for good football. Managers like Allardyce, Pulis, Warnock and Pardew ARE NOT. Reputations aren’t built or changed overnight. You have to give the viewers a bit of credit.

    Pardew Cv

    Won the Johnson Painter Trophy

    Wenger Cv

Under his management, Arsenal have won three English Premier League titles (1997-1998, 2001-2002, 2003-2004), four FA Cups (1997-1998, 2001-2002, 2002-2003, 2004-2005), and four Community Shields (1998, 1999, 2002, 2004). Between 1997 and 2005, Arsenal finished first or second in the league. He is also the first non-British manager to win the Premier League and the FA Cup in the same season – ‘The Double’ – in England, having done so in 1998 and 2002. In 2004, he became the only manager in Premier League history to go through the entire season without defeat.

Whilst at Nagoya Grampus Eight, he won the Japanese Emperor’s Cup and the J-League Super Cup,

Carrying….Thanks for the link and good job. I’m definitely happier now coming second and being unseeded. A bit of luck? 🙂

So was it a bad team performance as in we shouldn’t judge individual players too much, like Marveaux for instance?

I imagine Pardew knows what he is capable of, but at the same time gets to see him on a regular basis, maybe he isn’t consistent enough yet, hence why he’s not as valued as say Jonas?

Not to say Jonas has been consistent, but at the very least he provides some stability and defensive nous which Pardew prefers to, shall we say, hit and miss attacking ability?

For the record, this is a theory, not as opinion before I get accused of bashing Marv. I think he will come good, I’m just questioning whether he is in fact ready yet.

Rotonda….Clearly Wenger has far more success throughout his career than Pardew. He has always had a better caliber of player though and has been given time, when has Pardew?

You call the Wigan a day off from Pardews blueprint, I call it a sign of it coming together. Opinions, aren’t they a nightmare!

To be fair, I never followed anything Pardew did before he arrived at Newcastle and opinions seem to be split everywhere he has gone. Some say he’s a long ball guy, some have said he tried to get his team playing proper football and has a good philosophy. Who’s right? I can’t say for sure. He may well fall back on the old style game, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to or can’t change that, but it is a fall back for a reason and you’re right, that isn’t something that will change over night.

For most people, when your back is against the wall, you will go back to basics. Not always the best solution, I know.

There are many different situations throughout a game that will call for different playing styles. It could be worth considering that rotating players now will benefit us later on in the season. Much has been said of Spurs picking their best players for every game but it is usually later in the season where it takes it`s toll in fitness.
As for last night the result was unimportant. It was expecting a little much for such a young side to produce a great performance. All the EL games was a mix of youth and experience. The Fulham game is more important and IMO Pards was correct not to take risks with injuries.

  • 146 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 7, 2012 at 1:57 PM

TS….One more time wouldn’t hurt! We do have a habit of repeating the same points over and over….would be so much easier if people just accepted I’m right 🙂

I need to say that was a joke, that sort of comment could land me in big big trouble.

I would imagine we’ll see less chopping and changing of players between PL and EL from now on as the competition gets harder. I don’t think there was a great need to play stronger teams in the EL and struggle to ascertain whether if the same players had been playing whether it would have helped in the PL to date, something tells me it wouldn’t and we’d have even more players in the treatment room.

In theory though, your idea is a good one. Play your strongest team when possible.

    😀 😀 😀

Now onto football related matters, I don’t think any one can take anything out of last night’s “performance” it really meant very little to either side so let’s keep the toys in the pram. No one got injured and our youngsters got some more minutes under their belts. Elliot showed that he’s a competent shot stopper, Abeid finally got a game and the likes of Tav and Ranger looked decent, even though the latter is well short of match pace.

We face a Fulham side on Monday who are off form themselves and will be desperate for a win, let’s hope, with the return of HBA and Co, that we take advantage of their desperation and nab the 3 points.

Last night was what it was, no way to see if the kids are good enough when they all play together but at least no enior lads were injured, thats a positive.

Another good point….but I just think don’ t rest players telling they will get tired or you create an excuse….rest when they are tired.

The famous boxer now trainer, barry mcguigan (sorry for spelling) was talking the other day on boxing fitness and in general and said that he never thought you needed more than 3/4 days of total rest to be back to 100% fitness (providing there are no injuries of course). He said sometimes training gets a bit repetitive though and mental fatigue can take months to recover from. He advocates constantly changing your training to prevent this.

I think tiredness is over used in football…its always an excuse for the english players in world cups/euros….its funy how it seems to never really effect any foreign players playing in the prem league though.

no i think if he thought that he would not play so many in any one game, you blood youth in one at a time, maybe 2, but to have a team of kids go out there, with the sinior players that arnt even as good as them,, your just asking for trouble,,

williamson perch and shola arnt even good enough for the prem

what he did was field a very weak team, thinking they would get beat, and when they did he had an excuse,, if he wanted to win the game, why wasnt tiote ba colo santon krule playing?

like i said,, these kids got him to the next round of the euro cup, now he has a go at them,,

thats not right, that is not good for moral, not good for the kids feelings,,

it is his job to protect them, not send them out to be slauterd for his short comings

but you can believe what you want

  • 159 Transfer Sage // Dec 7, 2012 at 2:15 PM

I don’t have any specialist knowledge either on it. Just from what I see some players, usually key players for their teams, never seem to need to rest.

Messi, ronaldo, van persie (at arsenal), Gerard, lampard, etc never seemed to rest or miss many games.

It’s always first team players who don’t seen to be the big stars that get rest when those kinds of players play maybe 95% of all games in a season.

I suppose it could be an 80% fit ronaldo is better than a 100% fit whoever his replacement would be.

I have no idea, just chucking a few ideas out there.

@Ibiza but wouldnt you say Anita is more defensive minded than Cabaye?
The point I am trying to make is a mid 3 of Tiote-Anita and marv has a balance between defence and attack whereas a mid 3 of Tiote-Guti-Anita can be expected to be very workmanlike, but not so much creative, result being a large gap between our midfield and attack.

im with you on the tirdness thing

try telling a team going for 3 cups at the end of a season there tired,, they want to play every game, even in a long season,,

our season is 20 games in, tiredness can not be any excuse at all

if it is tiredness, he should be sacked for that, its his job to have them ready for the long season ahead, they employ conditioning coaches, paul winsper used to be ours when i lived over there, im not sure who is now,,

its seems to be every thing around him that is wrong with our team,, not him or his tacticks

IITian…..I’m not really sure to be honest, from what I’ve seen of Anita he seems to be a similar type to Cabaye, but I get what you’re saying. It’s more a discussion of Jonas or Marveaux in the middle?

If we’re talking on top form, then probably Marv as he has better attacking capabilities. However, except last weeks good performance I’ve not seen anything from Marv to say he will do it week in week out, so I do understand to some extent why Jonas would be in there.

Over time I do see Jonas being edged out. If all players are playing at their best, he’d struggle to merit a starting point, even with his hard work. Now I’m going to go cry for a little bit, poor spidey.

  • 174 tequilamag // Dec 7, 2012 at 2:27 PM

TS some players are just naturally better adapted to keeping a higher level of fitness. Essentially the game was meaningless so what was the point of risking injuries. Probably did not do the kids much of a favour by playing so many and I don`t think we can read too much into whether or not they will be able to make the step up to regular first team. One good performance does not make a player great but a poor one does not mean they are useless either. We don`t have to worry about EL till Feb and I would expect Pardew to field a full team when the knock out stages start.

I think everyone accepts shola isn’t a godo player…he is a squad player at best who ends up seeing too much game time.

However he is currently all we have as back up for senior strikers so not much can be done until players are signed.

I’m sure pardew knows this as he tried to sign luuk de jong in the summer.

Indian….I think you’ll find most people when praising Shola will acknowledge he is no world beater, but a true servant to the club and has found a more suitable role as a substitute. What you say is he’s useless and can offer nothing to us. Vindicated? I think not in this instance.

  • 191 Transfer Sage // Dec 7, 2012 at 2:34 PM

I think we could have carried on as were and been safe and got more goals.

But after 4 defeats…..3 very embarassing ones I can see why pardew just shut up shop. The problem is he shuts up too early and too much and it invites a lot of pressure…thankfully wigan didn’t have the final ball to hurt us….we never once looked in danger.

But Carr does what he can…he can’t be everywhere so I hope the scouting network continues to be extended

  • 197 beefman13 // Dec 7, 2012 at 2:38 PM

So we reach the last 32 of the europa with mainly the fringe players playing.

We do it with a game to spare the first english team to qualify for the second stage as well.

So the mix did not work last night particulary well, how about a decent bordeaux team get a wee bit of credit, they virtually dont ever get beat at home in europe but beacuse we are expected to go there and win? a mix of younger and senior players including perch williamson who were not very clever and who play regulary, yet thats it certai youngins need to be farmed out on loan cos they did not perform, i found that another excuse by AP some of them play out of the blue and beacuse they dont pull trees up thats them allianated yet perch and williamson etc who play regulary played awful but get away with the flack that the younger players got, easy target AP and i wasnt to keen on your summary.

Okay lets have a discussion on Fulham then. Very very hard team to beat at home normally, although they got beat 0-3 by Spurs who are in a rich vein of form, so surely a good time to play them.
Their prime threats have to be Riise and Berbatov. Riise would fancy bombing on against the combination of Benny and Simmo, so one of our DMs has to cut his threat out. The Fulham defence is tall and strong but not very fast, so good through balls to our forwards might be the key. We would be totally murdered if we play 4-4-2 hoof against the likes of Senderos or Hangeland.

Wish people would stop going on about how Wigan dominated us….Cause they must have been watching a different game

They started well in 1st 5 mins and had a few shots then we carved them open a few times and got the penalty and the game was over with the red card

They huffed and puffed at the start of the 2nd half but never had a shot on goal in this period we had lots of shots in fact if Cisse had not been taking stupid shots from crazy angles and instead took a touch or played someone in it would have been more than 3!!!

Tequilla, Unfortunatly maybe williamson had to play last night maybe perch as well but they are nowt owa the pair of them how ever much we think perch has improved, and injuries definatly came in to the mix with team selection.

They were involved in the game though but AP targeted the younger players not doing to well, those frogies as i said are by no means mugs, there have been plenty of performances by the so called purples that have been pants this season, i will say there was no real intensity in the game, not much to play for as a lot of those players had already got us through to the group stages.

  • 219 tequilamag // Dec 7, 2012 at 3:12 PM

Beef I agree that ideally the kids should be introduced one or two at a time and if possible into a winning team. Last night though was meaningless in terms of result so there was nothing to lose by playing so many kids and not risking injuries. If you think Perch and Will are not too convincing at CH I would agree but it seems to me that id ASH had supported Pards in the Summer with transfers it would not be an issue. We have to deal with how things are rather than how we would like them to be and until Jan that will not change. As things stand at the moment there are no kids who could play CH ahead of Willo and Perch. Slating Pards for playing them is unhelpful as he has no other alternatives.
