We had reported on Wednesday that there was Newcastle interest in Brazilian right back Marcus Rocha, who plays for Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro and turns 24 next week.
Marcos Rocha – Newcastle interested
The defender is a bit like Cheick Tiote in the tackle, and has close to 50 yellow cards in 142 league appearances for Mineiro, and he has heard of newcastle’s reported interest in him, and the lad admits by being flattered, and this is what he told Globo Esporte:
“My press adviser talked to me about that and then my agent called me. None of them knew anything about it, and neither did Atletico Mineiro’s director of football Maluf, ”
“But everyone knows the Premier League is one of the best leagues, it’s hard, not everyone can play there, so I can only be thankful.”
“Mineiro President Alexandre Kalil calmed everyone down and said he won’t let anybody leave, not even Bernard, before the end of Atletico Mineiro’s participation in Libertadores.”
“So if I have to go, it will be after Libertadores.”
Newcastle will have a list of targets they will go after in January, and we expect those they cannot get in January will then become targets for the summer transfer window.
But it could still be difficult to get Rocha to Newcastle, since he says he’s not expected to be able to leave his club until after the Copa Libertadores campaign, which could go on until July – but we suppose an agreement could be reached before then – if Newcastle really wanted to bring this lad to Tyneside.
