Allardyce Admits He Can’t Stop Diame Moving – To Newcastle?

10:41 am, Sunday, December 9th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 329 Comments

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has come out today and said he is powerless to stop Senegal international midfielder Mohamed Diame leaving in January if some club (like Newcastle for instance) come in and meet the £3M release clause.

Mohamed Diame - A Newcastle player in January?

That’s exactly what Alan Pardew has said this morning about Demba Ba leaving – since there’ nothing he can fo if a club meets his £7M release clause, and then that club will attempt to negotiate a wage packet with Ba – and if they do that he’s gone.

The 25 year-old Senegal International is reportedly attracting attention from a number of clubs, and there have been reports that Newcastle are interested in bringing him to Tyneside.

Sam Allardyce refused to talk about the contract of Diame, but West Ham co-chairman David Gold confirmed the fact via his Twitter account:

“Diame does have a release clause in his three-year contract. He joined us from Wigan on a free transfer.”

When you look at the financials should Diame move in January, the London club have made a quick £3M in profit on the player, which is why it’s not bad a deal – at least from a financial viewpoint – and with clubs being businesses that soon have to balance their books, that;s how the Boards will look at deals.

And notice also that his agents will be making money on the deal, which they did last summer too, when Mohamed moved to West Ham on a free transfer from Wigan. These release clauses are put in by agents – so they can make money when a club comes in and meets the release price.

Big Sam never will not talk about players contracts to the public, and he refused to do so on Dame’s contract,  but he did have this to say:

“I don’t disclose players’ contracts publicly – there’s always a situation where you’re powerless to keep a player because of the size of the price.” “You can’t turn it down.”

“The chairman says, “Look, we can’t turn that down, Sam – we’ve got to move him on”.” “I think there’s always a chance that you lose football players when they start getting attention – because everybody is searching for better players.”

Alan Pardew has again said today that Newcastle will have a stronger squad come the end of January – so we wonder whether Newcastle have already tied up at least one signing for January – and there’s a chance it could be Diame – who we think would be a terrific buy at £3M.

What do you think?

not sure how pardew can say Ba has loyalty towards us,, if so he would take the clause out,
    just a thought,
before he signed for west am, , i bet he had never heard of us,

i was talking to a fan of newcastle from iceland last night,, he made a great point,, all these top players we have, when they signed, they said they want to take us back into europe, not many of these players got a chance to show there tallents in the competition for us, with pardew chosing the kids over them

he was also ov the same opinion as me, it dosent matter who pardew gets in to play for the club, his philosphy wont change on how he wants the game played,

there for will not move the club to that next level, and is looking more likely to take us backwards

with 10 men wigan attacked us,
us against sunderland, just sat back,,

best form of defence is attack,

I don’t think we have signed up Diame just yet Ed!

…we sadly don’t work like that. New players will come mid or late January as usual…the big question will be if we’ll sign any at all un less someone leaves?

    catchy

Please, please give it a rest!

Do you not get tired of posting the same things every single day?

Pardew is going nowhere. He has the backing of the vast vast majority of fans, he’s on an 8 year deal, and Mike Ashley has not got ambition other than to see us stable.

There’s no point wasting your whole life moaning on a blog about it.

Has any1 seen in chronicle lee Ryder saying 95% of toon fans are behind pardew despite that not actually being a question in his recent poll?? Made up Bullshit, Ryder must be on ashleys pay roll to come out with this.

  • 34 blew // Dec 9, 2012 at 11:30 AM

Nolan went to WH for a better contract, they also pick up Carrolls tab, which indicates WH pay more than theToon. Why then would Diame leave WH, who are also in a much healthier league position, we are a couple of defeats from a relegation spot.

  • 35 Graeme // Dec 9, 2012 at 11:30 AM

West Ham are in exactly the same boat with Diame, as we are with Ba. We agreed the clause when we signed him because we thought it was good for us to do so – it’s not unusual.

The problem seems to be that we are not prepared to pay him the “going rate” for a top Premier League Striker to get him to remove it.

Our Owner / MD seem to know the price of everything but the value of nothing. They are trapped in the “never mind the quality – feel the width” mindset of the bargain basement wheeler dealer, which is effectively what they are!!

  • 36 Jail for Ashley // Dec 9, 2012 at 11:37 AM

Some people on here say that Mike Ashley is a business genius, I tend to disagree would a genius have overlooked a 130M pound debt, or hired Dirk Llambias, Dennis Wise and JFK.

  • 37 davybtoon // Dec 9, 2012 at 11:37 AM

Greame – yea we should pay 100,000 aweek to ba to keep him but it then wages could spiral out of control bcoz you then have cisse, cabaye, tiote, santon, colo, hba, Anita all wanting 100,000, u then also have any new players coming saying we want 100,000 n b4 you know it your wage bill is sky high again, ba won’t pass a medical anywhere

  • 38 davybtoon // Dec 9, 2012 at 11:44 AM

The thing what gets me is toon fans think we’re some mega rich club that can compete with any club on wages, when the reality is we don’t even make a quarter of the income some other clubs make in the premier league 52,000 seater stadium dosent make u mega rich, man utd just signed 450mil shirt deal we signed a 30mil shirt deal, man utd Dhl training kit deal is bigger than our new shirt deal

and where does it say he has the full support,

it says they believe he wasnt backed in the summer, which is 100% right, carnt argue with that

Geordie punters do not feel that the Toon boss can be blamed for the Magpies’ slide down the Premier League table, with 92.3% of the club’s followers who voted feeling Pardew was not handed a “fair amount” of money to spend in the summer transfer window

where did it ask are you happy with the football you watch,
    did not see that question,,

where did it say the fans are right behind him from a football point of view,,

That’s funny I don’t recall being asked !! How dare they do a survey and not include me!! Don’t they know who I am !!! I live down South these days and every NUFC fan I meet seems equally depressed at how we’ve morphed in to a long ball team.

In fact someone on facebook just put something about NUFC buying Carroll back and said …..I know Pardew is a long ball 442 dinosaur and Rodgers is the opposite (lucky Liverpool fans) but why would NUFC be stupid enough to pay anywhere near 17m for a non – scoring, very one dimensional, injury prone dark age target man?

  • 41 Jail for Ashley // Dec 9, 2012 at 11:47 AM

  • 42 Black and White with an army lol // Dec 9, 2012 at 11:48 AM

i would say sell ba because there no way in hell he’s worth 70-80k a week, he’s been good for us not great despite the goal scoring.

players like HBA and SANTON deserve these wages because they give 100% each game regardless if we win, lose or draw.

ba’s demands are pathetic same goes his ego if he gets what he wants then the toon would once again be push overs.

  • 43 geordie157 // Dec 9, 2012 at 11:48 AM

  • 45 Graeme // Dec 9, 2012 at 11:52 AM

Davybtoon – WHY? Why do we have to go down that route? There is room for moderation in all things.

We have absolutely NO IDEA what, if anything, the club have offered Ba. It is pure conjecture in the press to whip up a frenzy to sell papers.

We don’t even know what Ba is on, but there have been some very strong hints to the effect that its £40,000 a week, but we dont’ know for sure – it could just as easily be £30,000 or £60,000.

The bottom line is, any of those numbers is well below what a top striker could expect to achieve – if he can find a club WILLING TO PAY IT!!! NUFC are not that club, probably never will be.

This is why Ba’s parasites are agitating for a transfer; plus they of course will do extremely well out such a move!!

This is where I am coming round to your way of thinking. M.A is a fantastic businessman, the stats don’t lie, he’s nearly a double billionaire and has applied some good business principles to the situation. We can’t really argue with that.

But I think football is a different animal to his other business interests. He was obviously cocky and arrogant in not doing due diligence and the hiring of Dirk Llambias, Dennis Wise and JFK was simply atrocious and you kind of think why did he get involved
in NUFC without knowing anything about the game and then surrounding himself with his tainted cronies.

  • 49 Mister Tuff // Dec 9, 2012 at 11:59 AM

A couple of interesting topics appear to have been revealed over the last day or two.
    1. Demba Ba’s tweets about Pinnochio and lies. Very intriguing I wonder who has been telling him lies. The three suspects are Ashley, Dastardly and Parsnip. I’ve checked out some of their photos on Google and all three seem to have big hooters anyway -so no clues there.
    2. Ian Toon – you appear to have made a fatal error last night -announcing you were leaving the blog to attend a Christmas function. In your absence an opportunist and scurillous fellow has made you an award – unfortunately it is the non thinking end of a pantomime horse. Clearly he took advantage of you not being here to defend yourself -sharp practice indeed!

  • 50 davybtoon // Dec 9, 2012 at 12:01 PM

Greame – I would go as high as 80,000 aweek bcoz I personally think that’s what are wage limit should, but you have just said yourself its all speculation we don’t know what are wage limit is so u can’t exactly slate the club for not paying wages when you don’t know what wages there on, colo rumoured to b top earner on 75,000 so if true we do pay the wages

Was reading an article the other day that said although ba has a release clause of 7.5 any deal would cost a club around 30million bcoz of wages fees him n his agents want n u also have to take into account ba won’t pass a medical didnt at stoke, didnt at west ham but they signed him anyway n I’ve heard he didn’t here either

  • 59 bills-son // Dec 9, 2012 at 12:14 PM

I dont know why fans, or Pardew for that matter, use the word loyalty and Ba in the same sentence. Why on earth would Ba be loyal to us? Are we saying that Ba, in just over a year with us, has developed such a love for the area, the fans and his paymasters that stayimg put on lower money is more important to him that exercising his clause and trousering the cash? Not a chance, whatever he might say that implies the opposite. Ba will wait until January and see what offers come in, and if it doesnt pan out he’ll wait until the summer and listen out again. The only way he’ll sign a new contract with us is if we pay him whatever it is he is asking for. Then he’ll be ‘loyal’.

top teams will always make more because of sponsor’s and are always in the champions league, liverpool lost 1 or 2 sponsorship’s because they didnt make it this season as they ended up in euro like us, if we ended up in champions league our income will boost dramatically and can compete against the top boys, but saying that if all this did happen in a few season from now we will be richer than the top boys simply because we dont spend a shit loads of money on players well over there valuation

  • 62 Mister Tuff // Dec 9, 2012 at 12:18 PM

Having the club on a stable financial footing, I’m sure all will agree is a good thing. Also I think most will agree that some of the money earned by players these days is obscene. In the real world of supply and demand, fuelled by TV money, wages and transfer fees will be set by how much a party is willing to pay. Fixing a “relatively” low ceiling on weekly wages will have an effect in that “in demand top players” will not sign for Newcastle. The low wages will be acceptable, initially to youngsters breaking their way into the first team (already employed by Newcastle) and to younger players bought in who have not yet reached their full potential.
We will not see a “super team” at Newcastle with the likes of Cabaye, Benny, Ba, Krul, Mr T and Santon playing with recently acquired stars. They will -one by one be sold off. My dreams are shattered.

Why do you automatically assume getting a different manager would necessarily fail? We supposedly replaced a worse manager in Hughton with an allegedly better one in Pardew and it worked last season. Who’s to say another manager couldn’t come in and get us to another level now, playing watchable football?

What constitutes NUFC failing if what we have at the moment is deemed success? The fear of change can really paralyse and stagnate a club if you don’t ever change because of the fear of who comes in could be worse. My great fear is the likes of Cabaye and Benny, a once in a generation players will want to go and play for an attacking footballing and progressive manager.

Great if we can get an M’Biwa or Alderwield and then we may start playing from the back and to be fair I would reserve judgement to see who we bring in in Jan.

i never back anyone to beat us, regardless,

this has the same stink around it when JFK took us down, shearer was left 8 matches to save the club,

ppl are starting to turn this into the board didnt back him,, and they did, but not as much as we would hope, but the fact is, for the first 10 matches he had a good enough squad to pick a team and go out and win games,
DL nor MA pick the team, or set the game plan,,

its this area im most concerned about,,

say what you like, but us and sunderlan play the worst football in the league

we have very good players,, dont you ask yourself why so many are out of form??

Jail, re Ashley’s business nous. I read an article today about Francis Lee, top footballer and very successful multi-millionaire businessman. He was saying how many cock ups he made as owner and chairman on Man City, appointing useless managers and funding big money on useless players. And this from ‘football man’.

My point is none other than Ashley isnt alone in making bad football decisions, you only have to look at QPR for evidence of that. By comparison Ashley IS a football genius.

  • 70 stuart no9 // Dec 9, 2012 at 12:26 PM

catchy – your spot on. no ,matter who we buy , pardew has not got the “know how ” on how to make us a better side . his style is very negative for a club like nufc, hence the reason his cv looks like old mother hubbards cupboard. (nowt in it ) . pards is to blame for the shambles occurring. he is the man in charge.
Having lots of players out is an excuse , not a reason. If it wasnt that, it would be something else. Yesterday wigan had 8 first teamers missing for the game against QPR. wigan destroyed them with attacking football and only drew because of an error at rhe back, if wigan can do it WHY cant we. the answer is simple , martinez sent a team out to win- pards sends a team out not to get beat. that is the difference between a positive and a negative manager, oh and by way, not one mention from martinez in his post match interview that he was missing all his players. the man is class , i hope pards was watching.
TEQUILA @ 6 – as for your poll mat, sorry but its rubbish, 92% of people who voted voted in favour of pards. how many voted ? it may have only been 100 and 92 of them may have been pards fans. i didnt vote! did anybody on here ????? to get 92% of the votes, then they should have asked 52,300 fans to vote somehow i dont think they did,

i think he was trying to say we dont pay top wages,, not that we dont paye good wages

these players, are using us as a steping stone, if we want to keep them we have to compete, on the pitch and in the bank,,

these players want to be seen chalenging for something and getting good money,

some are just mercinaries, always wanting a bigger pay day, because tevez gets 250k a week, and they see them as him,
simpson, 20k a week, come on, he isnt even good enough for the prem,,

this is cripeling the championship and lower leagues,

one club at the bottom of the championship has a wage bill of 18 m per year,,

    sad

  • 73 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 9, 2012 at 12:32 PM

Graeme…I have to jump in here; if nobody comes in for Ba then clearly it is not the going rate ;-)

…Spurs and Arsenal have a similar wage cap like us. Prices are inflated in the UK and so is wages which people gets confused about what’s the going rate for quility these days.

Clubs who buys these so called best at there position players and pay them the so called going rate are stuck with them when they either get older or just doesn’t deliver anymore.

Look at Citeh or Chelski for that matter. What are similar clubs like us who are not regulars in Europe pay their top players?

Now that’s the going rate for us mate ;-)

  • 75 Mister Tuff // Dec 9, 2012 at 12:33 PM

davy @67 you make a fair point -but all the players mentioned were relatively “unknowns” playing in leagues where the wages are lower than the PL. The EPL is the most popular/watched league in the world – the TV money has attracted lots of stars to come and play here – the downside is the runaway effect on the wages bill.

  • 76 bills-son // Dec 9, 2012 at 12:34 PM

Davyb @ 71, I remember when Bramble used to win a great tackle and then lose the ball time and again trying to hit a Beckenbauer 50 yard crossfield pass. I could never understand why Sir Bobby didnt tell him to pack it in and just give it to the nearest guy in a BW shirt. Same goes for Pardew with Wilo, Simmo and Krul.

Jesper – If we were to sell Ba it doesn’t follow that any new striker would hit the ground running. Would prefer to bring players in before any sales. Priority remains 2 defenders then we could play 4-2-3-1 and

ars come along pay 10 mil for him, and turn him into a 30 mill player, by playing him in the right position

  • 86 Mister Tuff // Dec 9, 2012 at 12:55 PM

davytoon @82 – spot on – wage structures are fine as long as everybody else is doing the same -otherwise clubs with a low ceiling will inevitably attract lower calibre players or those who have no yet made names for themselves. Clubs like Newcastle will get out muscled by oil sheiks and Russian fraudsters.

I think a wage cap is not the way to go. I think there should be a budget cap. The way I see this working is that every club would have to work with a maximum budget each season. This would factor in the wage bill and transfer funds. If a club is paying big wages then their transfer fund will be reduced. Have sensible wages, more money available for transfers.
This in my opinion would give a more level playing field. Chelsea and Man City would not be able to pay someone £150 grand a week to sit on the bench. If they did they would not have the funds for transfers.

The new defenders doesn’t mean we would change formation.

4231 or 433 is probably what we should be doing now.

It is not just bette for our forward players but its much more solid defensively as we keep should keep the ball more, offer an attacking threat so we won’t be on the back foot.

It annoys me our defence is the weakest area of the team yet that’s the area we look to play on more.

By defending too much we expose our deficiencies more than they need to be.

    krul
    santon willo colo ferguson

    can i say

YES the players are as much to blame as pardew, , but we have 3 options to put this right

1 the players start playing better,

2 sack all the players and get new ones in

3 ssack the manager and get a better one in,,

no 1 is an option, but this will only work if the players believe in what he is trying todo
there isnt one player out there that will come out and say his tactics are wrong,

    no2 will never happen

no3 i say better manager, but that is what pardew was to CH, wasnt he,, ??

95% of the crowd are behind pardew, that 5% were the 10000 missing at wigan game,, shit my maths arnt what they used to be,, im sure that is nearlly 10% voting with there feet

  • 102 Transfer Sage // Dec 9, 2012 at 1:15 PM

    Ian

But surely Simpson and Williamson are poor with the ball no matter how the team lines up in front of them?

With 442 they just good it long 80/90% of the time anyway so not sure how that would be worse in 433-4231 or anything else really.

At least with two deeper midfielders in 4231 they have 2 midfielders closer to them so they should, in theory, have an easier option for the short pass?

In the game against Wigan we looked better as Anita, tiote, bigi and marv kept dropping deep in our half to collect the ball of the defence and play it out from the back.

We all know Simmo and willo can’t play good passing football so in my opinion pardew needs to be making sure he has 1 or 2 midfielders dropping deep to collect the ball and then have then distribute it to our attacking players instead of leaving those at the back to do it when they simply cannot.

I just have this sinking feeling that Wigan was a one off to keep the natives happy when we were massively assisted by the same same woeful ref who did the Arsenal game yesterday. Some truly shocking refereeing yesterday in at least 3 matches

You say pardew has no favouites but we all know Guti will be back in a 442 tomorrow. I suspect all the other 19 PL managers know exactly what we will do too.

Goodwill has to be earned, ie by not losing 4 on the bounce playing shockingly negative and uncommitted football. Wigan was a glimpse of better days but I suspect Bordeux was more of a real benchmark. Still we shall see.

Would love to see Obi, Benny and Marv let loose behind Cisse / ba. Now that would engender a lot of goodwill.

Also staying away might harm team in the long run but if the goal of the fans staying away is to replace the manager you could argue it is good for the long run of the club.

Saying that, I don’t think pardew needs to go yet, just trying to justify the view of some fans.

as for the formation the reason wigan was good was he started with the right formation (still had players out of position ie cisse)
4231 433 will work but u can only hav one of ba or cisse starting, jonas shouldnt b anywere near the team atm
were pardew has gone wrong this season is starting games 442 then changing to 433 4231 after 20 mins which is what we should b starting with in the first place

stuart no9 – pardews biggest problems is he is trying to keep cisse n ba happy by playing them both which means we have played 442 most of the season a formation that is dated n sees us out numbered in midfield every game bcoz most teams play 451 4231, until he gets the balls to drop 442 n one of ba or cisse to bench we will probably continue to struggle, bcoz we need to play the formation n players i mentioned b4 n yes i agree with you pardew does worry about other teams more than making them worry about us which is what they would do with that attcking line up

  • 118 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 9, 2012 at 1:49 PM

Ian…I don’t think Ba will be leaving in Jan, but I still think we need another striker.

A CB is of course a priority and we need to replace Simmo.

We will probably need another CM if one of the cheap can be found.

I would rather we ran down Ba’s contract – he has not cost us much and he has earned our money back. A striker like him costs alot.

For me a wage cap is needed and I don’t think any player playing at our level and only in Europe sometimes can justify a wage of £90k not even closely.

i think it is unfair to say fans would be calling for the guys head as soon as we hit a bad patch,,

if we go back to KK to right now,, i have only really dissliked 3 managers

first was kanny dogleash, and that was the only from the start of his full season. in the same week, ginola went for 2,5 mil, went on to be player of the year, we bought des hamilton, we where shocking under him,
he was as arrogant as pardew

then JFK, just a joke no more needs to be said

    now its pardew,,

    for a number of reasons

he very rarely tells the truth, this is for 2 reasons, the 2 numties he tries to cover, and the shit he comes out with around transfer time,
im thinking season tickets are down, so lets say we are going to buy,, ppl fall for it

the football is bad, and it has been since he got here,, im yet to see the step up in class from CH, and i 100% believe if CH had this team, he would have us top 6, 2 great strikers, and great attcking midfield tallent

his tactics links to the above, but you say he starts off 442, yip, but i think this is to see how the other team are lining up, then he tries to combat that, instead off having a game plan and let them worry about us

i mean he even gets the long ball game wrong,, with that you play with 3 forwards, and at least 1 midfielder rushing in, we play it with 1 winger and 2 forwards,

he constantly plays players out of position,, it is ok to have one utility player, but he likes about 4/5 all out of position,

he sticks to the same players regardless of what formation he plays,,

how does this make a good manager’?

he seems very affriad of upsetting any senior player, take your pick, BA,CISSE,JONAS SHOLA, WILLiAMSON SIMPSON,

his ater match comments are wide of the mark, he is iether taking the piss out of the guy asking the questions or us as fans

martin jol put his name forward for the job, but pardew got it, jol is an attack minded coach, pardew is defensive,

it was luck last season, ppl even think the chelsea game was great because of the 2 goals cisse scored, but it was a poor game, they where miles better, but could not score,, that dont make it a greta game

  • 132 Graeme // Dec 9, 2012 at 2:29 PM

Really really hope we start Marveaux instead of Jonas on Monday, him and Anita added some much needed quality passing to our midfield and created more than Jonas has all season. Always liked Jonas, but this season he has declined quite rapidly, maybe like Shola he’s now suited to a 20-25min role off of the bench. Plus Marv and Anita seemed to help Tiote in that he players around him that retained possession and therefore he could play his natural game more.

I wasn’t having a go, I’m just urging you to stop wasting your time posting it every day!

Nothing’s going to change – we have an owner who doesn’t appear to care about football, so there’s no chance of Pardew being removed.

The only way I can see it happening is if we’re fighting relegation, but even then there’s no decent managers out of the job.

I think the only option is to just live with it and hope things improve – which judging by the Wigan game, they may well do. If we beat Fulham on Monday – no easy task, but we should have Hatem back – then we’re well on our way.

The Wigan game was by no means a great performance, but we looked much better, the passing was better, players playing in their more natural positions helped.

Just think Pardew needs to be brave and 1. either move Ba out left again or stick him up top and Cisse on the bench and 2. be prepared to drop Jonas and give Marveaux a chance, yes we lose out defensively but the pluses outweigh the negatives, as we get a better passer in the team, another playing who is decent at set pieces, more pace and vision.

Would like to see the following Monday

    Krul
    Tav/Simo, Willo, Colo, Santon
    Anita, Tiote, Marveaux
    Ben Arfa, Cisse, Ba

Catchy of those 3, if we only have one of those changes, then i hope its Marv in for Jonas. Simpson to his credit is solid enough and helps cover Wilo’s mistakes. Cisse needs better service which Marveaux can help provide.

Get a decent run going then try and ease Tav in if possible.

  • 181 aarronkimber // Dec 9, 2012 at 3:32 PM

    sissoko – 3-4 million
    diame – 3 million
debuchy – 6-7million ( wishful thinking, dont think he will leave lille half way through season)
    douglas – 3-4 million
+ maybe a winger/striker ( depending on whether ba leaves

thats only 18 million and would improve the squad massivly and you could even get rid of simpson for 2m so therefore 16m to spend is nothing to make such an improvement to the sqaud.

what i remember about the game WIGAN
    is
we got a pen early, got a goal and sat back, passing was better for sure, but the only 2 good chances other than the goals where long balls with half chances

your right, they didnt have much of a threat up front, but must of the football seemed to be in our half,,

may be im wrong,, but they play good football, but dont have the best players, we should have been camped in there half,,

the way sunderland was with us, with our forwards, we could of had a hat full, and sent out a msg

the game was slighly better, but it was against 10 men,

i felt ashamed that they had the confidence to come out and try and outplay us with ten men,, and for the most part i think they did
in the end it was 50 50 possesion wise
    54.6 1st Half Poss. 45.4
    47.6 2nd Half Poss. 52.4
they put 21 crosses, mainly from stam , who for me was the best player on the pitch, he had quality,, and he was up against santon

I get everyone satin Santon on the right but ATM he is looking like he could grow into a significant creative and attacking threat from his left side berth.

If we can get a lw playing that can deliver a solid ball into the box then that trait to cut in will be very useful.

If we move him to rb without a lb that is also attacking minded in the same way we will essentially place all our threat on one side of the pitch. We need that balance.

And no I’m not inviting a “Simmo is cr@p no attacking threat debate” the lad does his job as far as I’m concerned by being solid at the back.

I think Anita is a good shout to play in an advanced position. For what he lacks in ability that Cabaye has he more than makes up for in attacking ambition to get forward. Can really seeing him sneak a few this season from loose balls. He also the type that will thread nice short balls to our strikers.

Sounds like the usual spiel will soon be forthcoming in December – Ranger has made such good progress – “It will be like having a new signing” on the pitch!!

So, there is the striker people were looking for – wonder how they will conjure up a RB & CB!!!

  • 271 Jail for Ashley // Dec 9, 2012 at 7:49 PM

    Marty toon ,
Although that wouldn’t surprise me,I don’t think its a case of us ‘selling’ him if somebody meets the release clause, but if he hasn’t signed a new contract by next summer I think he will be persuaded to move on,we’ll all be blogging like mad thinking somebody substantial will be brought in only to be told that’s why Cisse was bought and those in the building will have to step up to the plate still leaving a lovely profit from the AC sale.

  • 277 Graeme // Dec 9, 2012 at 8:20 PM

Jail, agreed mate. However, Saylor has already done the “like a new signing” role and cant do it again – its the law of “Like new Signings” you can only do it once each lifetime!!

The other problem with Saylor taking on the role is that he is unlikely to be fit by the end of January, so cant count as any sort of transfer (Until Summer??) but that would be stretching credibility somewhat lol

  • 280 Jail for Ashley // Dec 9, 2012 at 8:29 PM

I’m not sure on how the crowds will vote this season,if anybody was going to take up the season ticket offer it would have been sooner rather than later and looking at the Wigan game not a lot of people took up the deal, and the fixture list in January doesn’t look like a lot of people will,so unless we see some money spent in the next window I can see a few more crowds of 44K or less, especially for the televised games.

  • 288 willowdalerez // Dec 9, 2012 at 9:43 PM

Wow some anti Demba feeling on here… Well what did you think. He’s on 10 goals, not local or a product of our system (there was a reason to think Carroll might have had loyalty to our club) so why stay when he can make real big bucks while he’s healthy enough for a big club to gamble on?

The real issue is what we do if he leaves or gets re-injured. As I noted once before he’s notched over half our goals and we don’t have great options at the striker position if he goes!

Couple of things that give me hope he might still be here come February, first any team coming with deep enough pockets to pick him up won’t be likely to make the mistake Liverpool did betting on Carroll… both score if you play the long ball ( a style we have come to epitomize), neither has great finesse with their feet, they are big lads, big targets and each has a great header and powerful finish (boot). Any team coming in will also play the long ball… to my mind that eliminates all the teams with deep pockets so not to worry unless a smaller club gambles on Ba to keep them up… Any thoughts on that?

  • 289 blaydonracist // Dec 9, 2012 at 9:43 PM

he’s out for 3 months with a hamstring tear, we have too many injured players without buying some more

I would be worried if we had to depend on current strikers. Campbell is going to be a big star but he needs time. Certainly do not want AC

You’re putting BA and Carroll in the same category?
BA is quite decent with his feet and control
He’s not a big target man like Carroll or Shola
He’s not as good a header as Carroll was but he’s way better with the ball at his feet

  • 295 Transfer Sage // Dec 9, 2012 at 11:09 PM

Not sure what we will do in january…a lot in the pipeline from the bits I hear…seem busier than normal under ashley but nothing anywhere near agreed yet.

The problem we have is that saylor and cabaye will be due back in fed and will be “like new signings” which might mean we don’t spend much.

  • 296 Transfer Sage // Dec 9, 2012 at 11:19 PM

to go further into my previous post

I’ve just had a catch up today with my friend in the club and there is a lot of talk of who we are looking at…got a long-ish list so don’t expect all but these are who we are supposed to be interested in.

mamadou sakho (only 1 appearance for psg this term)
    debuchy (again!!!!)
    erik pieters
    douglas (yet again)
llana (cost much more than 5 mil so not likely)
    victor wanyama
    gary hooper
    tom ince
    nathan redmond
    zaha

not sure if any of these will come off but i’m hoping that 2/3 will come in…ideally 2 defenders more than other players.

  • 297 APBWA // Dec 9, 2012 at 11:28 PM

Striker we get will be unknown or
    Charlie Austin
    Glenn Murray
    Gary Hooper
    Wilfried Zaha
    and the likes

we will get a CB and not a RB, so if we sell simpson we will be in trouble

  • 298 Rake // Dec 9, 2012 at 11:28 PM

If Ba does leave a nippy striker who can play out on the wing would be essential. We could go from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3 with ease and we know Pardew likes to have fiddle during a match.

    ToonAndy says:
Players in …. DOUGLAS, DEBUCHY, SISISSKO, WIJNALDUM, REMY…

    Out…. BA, SIMPSON…
    —————————

I presume you’ve never heard of the 25 man squad rule? If we brought in those 5 players (who are all aged over 21) and only got rid of Ba, Simpson (and Xisco) then we would end up in the summer with 31 players aged over 21, ie:

    Goalkeepers (3) Krul, Elliot, Harper
Defenders (10) Debuchy, Coloccini, Douglas, S Taylor, Williamson, Santon, R Taylor, Perch, Dummett, Tavernier,
Midfielders (14) Wijnaldum, Sissoko, Cabaye, Tiote, Ben Arfa, Jonas, Anita, Amalfitano, Obertan, Marveaux, Gosling, Ferguson, Bradden Inman, Conor Newton
Forwards (4) Remy, Cisse, Shola, Ranger

You can’t fit 31 players into a 25 man squad, so you would need to decide which of the other players you want to get rid of.

  • 303 The Venga Bus // Dec 10, 2012 at 12:44 AM

People need to get real. Do you honestly think Ashley would pay 14million for Remy ?. Cast your mind back to previous windows. The days of the big money signings are sadly over lads. It’ll probably be just another frustrating window, like they normally are.

  • 304 gonufc (up and Hatem) // Dec 10, 2012 at 1:01 AM

As irritating as it’ll be I expect the only thing we’ll buy in January is a shiny new Sports Direct sign for St.James’…

  • 305 nick_9 // Dec 10, 2012 at 4:30 AM

Chris, toonandy wants a net of plus three players. You mentioned fitting 31into 25 but how do we fit 28 into 25 currently then? I’m lost. The likes of Dummet, Inman and Connor Newton should be nowhere near our 25 man squad and that just illustrates how poor our squad is. Two good players for each position is 22 players, looking at that squad there is only around fifteen I would keep if I was being ruthless. Far to many average players in that squad and I’ve ways maintained its a large but weak squad. I’m not trying to disrespect the lads but at the end of the day all I have to go on is their performances and some just aren’t making the cut for me. I don’t want us to carry players like we used to.

Bad news regarding Diame as I like many others was hoping he was a target, every time I have seen him he made more of an impression that tiote did and we all rate tiote very highly. Come on Graham get us some more gems this window and get our season back on track. Massive game tonight, the gap between us and tenth is getting bigger and tonight is one of the easier games we have left this year

It’s allowed here in DK for the purpose of saving real life (one can argue whether it serves a good course or if it’s animal cruelty)
