West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has come out today and said he is powerless to stop Senegal international midfielder Mohamed Diame leaving in January if some club (like Newcastle for instance) come in and meet the £3M release clause.
Mohamed Diame - A Newcastle player in January?
That’s exactly what Alan Pardew has said this morning about Demba Ba leaving – since there’ nothing he can fo if a club meets his £7M release clause, and then that club will attempt to negotiate a wage packet with Ba – and if they do that he’s gone.
The 25 year-old Senegal International is reportedly attracting attention from a number of clubs, and there have been reports that Newcastle are interested in bringing him to Tyneside.
Sam Allardyce refused to talk about the contract of Diame, but West Ham co-chairman David Gold confirmed the fact via his Twitter account:
“Diame does have a release clause in his three-year contract. He joined us from Wigan on a free transfer.”
When you look at the financials should Diame move in January, the London club have made a quick £3M in profit on the player, which is why it’s not bad a deal – at least from a financial viewpoint – and with clubs being businesses that soon have to balance their books, that;s how the Boards will look at deals.
And notice also that his agents will be making money on the deal, which they did last summer too, when Mohamed moved to West Ham on a free transfer from Wigan. These release clauses are put in by agents – so they can make money when a club comes in and meets the release price.
Big Sam never will not talk about players contracts to the public, and he refused to do so on Dame’s contract, but he did have this to say:
“I don’t disclose players’ contracts publicly – there’s always a situation where you’re powerless to keep a player because of the size of the price.” “You can’t turn it down.”
“The chairman says, “Look, we can’t turn that down, Sam – we’ve got to move him on”.” “I think there’s always a chance that you lose football players when they start getting attention – because everybody is searching for better players.”
Alan Pardew has again said today that Newcastle will have a stronger squad come the end of January – so we wonder whether Newcastle have already tied up at least one signing for January – and there’s a chance it could be Diame – who we think would be a terrific buy at £3M.
