23-year-old Vurnon Anita has played very well indeed over the last six or seven games, and he has regularly been in our top three in the Man of the Match poll, and we had said how Newcastle do in the next couple of months will depend a lot on whether Vurnon can come through big time, as he fills in for the injured Yohan Cabaye, who had a stellar first season for Newcastle last term.
Vurnon Anita - playing well for Newcastle
Vurnon is now looking like the player we thought we had signed last August, and he is now quickly getting to grips with the Premier League, and the stats show he’s the third most creative player at Newcastle this season, behind only Yohan Cabaye and Ben Arfa.
This is what the 5 times capped Dutch International said on the Newcastle web-site today, as he prepares to face his former manager at Ajax, Martin Jol tomorrow night:
“I’m looking forward to playing against Fulham and my old manager,” “He was my coach at Ajax for one-and-a-half years and I enjoyed playing for him.”
“He gave me the chance to be in the first team there as a left back, and I accomplished being called up for the national team in that position, so I’m very happy he put me in that position.”
“It gave me confidence so I was happy about that and he’s doing a great job at Fulham. When I moved to Newcastle, he congratulated me for the move, which was nice.”
“I’m happy to be going there, but we want to win.” “We haven’t won away from home yet, so let’s do it at Fulham. Let’s win and show them that we are the better team.”
Vurnon has already played 18 times for Newcastle with one fantastic goal at Club Brugge.
Fulham and Newcastle are level on 17 points with Fulham having a better goal difference, and it would be a great time for us to get out first away win of the season.
That would take us up to 20 points, although that will only see Newcastle move up a couple of places in the league table – but we need as many wins as possible before the new year.
