Ben Arfa Starts In Strong Newcastle Side At Fulham

7:04 pm, Monday, December 10th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 668 Comments

Hatem Ben Arfa is in the starting eleven tonight for Newcastle, and it seems that all players injured against Wigan are now fit and start in the side.

Ben Arfa was passed fit as were Davide Santon, Cheick Tiote, Jonas Gutierrez and Demba Ba and they all start tonight, in what is Newcastle’s strongest side – apart from the injured Yohan Cabaye and Steven Taylor.

And Steve Harper is on the bench tonight, for the first time in a long while, and the bench is strong with Shola Ameobi, the in-form Sylvain Marveaux, James Perch and youngsters James Tavernier, Gael Bigirimana and Shane Ferguson all names as substitutes.

But no place for Nile Ranger, with Shola being fit again and Sammy Ameobi is also missing tonight.

For Fulham former Newcastle winger Damien Duff is in the starting line-up.

Newcastle will be going all out for three points tonight.

Howay The Lads!!

wish he dropped jonas for hba instead of marveaux

  • 6 sheikkra // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:07 PM

Marveaux for Gutierrez and we’d be set.

  • 7 Dannyo // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:08 PM

Marveux and Fergy there to step in for Gutti tho.
I think if Gutti does another performance tonight like he recently has, he won’t be a starter next week.
Seen him defending the criticism rightfully recieved on twitter too.
Also he got subbed against Wigan, and that wasn’t to rest him imo…

Jonas must be sucking pardew off lol

  • 9 Sinner // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:08 PM

    Is Jonas ***king undroppable?!

  • 10 89Norcal // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:09 PM

I’m with Wardy, how Jonas is a solid starter right now is beyond me.

  • 11 Blaydon-Toon // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:09 PM

Ed some would beg to differ on strongest side in fact not sure anyone on this blog would at that team given the player available drop Williamson and Jonas add Marv and Perch that would be much better in my opinion !

  • 12 Magpies-till-d3ath // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:09 PM

Seriously Gutierrez? How does a player like that find his way to the BPL? #Joke

  • 13 Tsunki // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:09 PM

Whoop Whoop!. Jonas gets pushed forward as everyone has been saying he has been stifled by being egged back, and what does he get? ‘Dropped for Marveaux – what an outrage!’ Evidently Jonas should have been bundled into the reserves to make way for a slow-cooking fixer-upper who put in a single reasonably keen 1st team display against the mighty Wiglets.

Oh Jonas, they dont love their Spidermag anymore….

  • 14 mighty_toon // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:09 PM

looks like 4-4-2 i dont know what pardew was talkin about lettin his formation out.not to many suprises with his tactics hopefully we pull a win outa da bag all da same

  • 15 Spellcheck // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:09 PM

Would prefer marveaux startin instead of cisse, but simply hope for 3pts.HWTL!!!

  • 16 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:10 PM

So Marveaux has a standout game against Wigan and could push on his NUFC career but Pardew drops him for Gutierrez. Marv must be sick

  • 17 Wardy // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:11 PM

Aye norcal ya right being with my opinion

  • 18 catchy in norway // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:11 PM

    im gutted,, AGAIN

we will lose, we will give them a head start

pardew is doing the same to guti as he did to obertan,, playing him when he should be dropped, and the fans will turn on him soon(jonas) which is a shame, cos he is a legend
id rather have the great memories of the past , than watching him struggle every week in 3 different positions

pardew hang your head in shame

  • 19 Dannyo // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:12 PM

    @Tsunki
I think most here understand that Gutti doesn’t offer much going forward anymore. It might be form, but i think it’s age tbh.
Maybe AP sees a different role for Gutti on the pitch beside just the playing part.
But i would like to see Anita swap with Gutti position wise tbh.
Maybe not as a winger tho…
Going for a win tonight :) Then again, i always do ;)

  • 20 AmericanGeordie // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:13 PM

For everyone down on Jonas, I have 2 comments:

    1. I’m just happy to see us lineed up in a 4-2-3-1 WITH Ben Arfa in the center of the pitch rather than on a wing.

    2. Jonas, despite his shortcomings, is a tireless worker which Pardew always rewards. SO, I’d like to see him dropped back to LB, move Santon to RB, and bring Marveaux in on the left wing while dropping Simpson to the bench.

    HWTL!!!

  • 21 Tsunki // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:13 PM

Come on, really? Everyone think that Marveaux is fully match fit? Not quite there yet. He will get a game tonight though, but he’s not a starter yet for me. Has more to prove.

  • 22 Dannyo // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:14 PM

Let it be said that Marveux wasn’t even among the top 5 performers against Boardoux, seems many here are forgetting that game…

Team will actually play like this after say the first 20 minutes, back to 442.

    Krul
    Simmo Willo Collo Santon
    Ben10 Anita Tiote Jonas
    Ba Cisse

Who do you think you are kidding Pardew you hopeless shit, this is now embarrassing and everyone gets took in by it.

Would sooner have Peter Reid in charge.

Looking forward to the Shola show in the second half as obviously Ba and Cisse cant hold the ball up from our barrage of long punts.

    Groundhog Day.

  • 29 BelfastMagpie // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:15 PM

I new it on thursday nyt when he started Marveaux, Jonas would play tonight.

  • 30 Graeme // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:15 PM

I thought Pardeaux was supposed to be playing for a win?? Jonas is either carrying an injury, or he needs a rest; after the way we played against Wigan, he should be looking for as near as possible, an unchanged team!!

Not very impressed to be honest

  • 36 Rotonda heights // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:16 PM

Well at least it isn’t 442 and I’m thankful for that, but why are we playing Cisse as a right midfield / wing when he’s an out and out poacher. Why can’t we actually play a right mid / wing with pace like Obertan and have him Benny and Marveaux behind Cisse or Ba.

One day Pardew might have to lock the fans out of training again if he finally ever drops one of Cisse and Ba and especially Jonas. None of the other 19 EPL managers would ever spot that one coming!!

Gutti has to put a shift in tonight as marv will be knocking on the door if he is again poor tonight.

    2-0 ben arfa

I’m not even sure on what a 4-2-3-1 looks like and I don’t know how anyone spying on a training session would have a clue how a formation like that keeps its shape so don’t know what they’d be reporting back to MMartin Jol, let’s hope for the best eh lads.

Dannyo – me ‘we’ wot you talking about?

So Sky say 433, Pardew says 4231, i say 442 after 30 minutes defo, and longball stuff second half, i know my team and thats the way it is going to go.

We have the players, Perch is brilliant compared to Williamson, and playing Cisse out wide is a total waste of time, hope that Ba also spends some time out there, the selfish shit.

    JTOON

Don’t want to spout the obvious but we aren’t an attacking threat to anyone. We are practically the league’s lowest scorers and we lost 4 in a row and are 14th, 2 points above the drop zone so where exactly has Guti stopped us getting severely punished?

Marveaux gives us flair and options and links well with Anita and probably would with Benny. Pardew has a very negative, play it safe mindset but it’s not doing him, us or the players any favours.

At least 4231 is a step in the right direction even if not
    the right personnel

Wow there really are some immature clueless t1ts on here. The same morons who said we’d get beat at 7 o’clock last Monday.

Look at how many different positions Jonas has played in this season, nearly everywhere but in goal. He always gives 100% and its in so much work for his team that people don’t see or appreciate, especially when you don’t understand football…….

Marv was great last week but before that had been shocking for the reserves and did nothing in Bordeaux. BUT he should be playing ahead of cisse tonight

  • 56 check the toastie // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:28 PM

Very similar to the formation that beat Stoke well at home last year. Come on lads lets have some energy out of you. Hope Jonas has been working on his fitness, he looks tired and unfit, about time he shaped up.

  • 58 Dannyo // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:29 PM

Nvm the “we”, but you have already resigned us to losing based on what you think we’ll see, and you do so explicitly with a big dose of overreaction.

It’s not a strong team, it’s a very weak team, extremely at the back. There’ no way that we’re going to beat Fulham tonight. Looks like Marveaux will definitely be leaving now. He is miles better than Gutierrez. It’s a joke how he’s not playing. He should even be starting ahead of Ben Arfa whom has just come back from injury.

Expect us to concede more than 3 goals tonight.

Why isn’t Abeid or Perch in the starting line-up?

It wont happen though, i mean why would it, if he wanted to play football he would put footballers in the team, Perch for Hoofer, Tav for Shagger and Marveuex for Ba or Jonas for me, pretty simple really, but looking forward to some more long ball stuff.

Like the formation but not quite the personnel, only players available who could have perhaps stepped in is perhaps Marveaux and Perch. After that its youngsters or poor squad players.

We can all get worked up about a formation but once they get on the pitch they drift all over anyway. 4231 can easily be changed or seen as 4:5:1 or 4:4:2 with two strikers being on the pitch. All the matters is the positions the players take up when they’re on the field. If cisse can stay on side and the two wide players provide support we should be ok.

Dont think I will watch it as we have obviously already lost (according to some )…….yeah right, I agree we should not have both marveaux and Benny on the pitch at the same time away from home.
I would have tiote with Gutti and Anita flanking him and Cisse, and Ba and Benny up top a 4-1-2-2-1 reverting to a 4-1-4-1 when we give the ball away.
Has the potential for going forward and the security away from home.

    kingkev,

In your world anyone with a different opinion is a moron so we can’t really put much stock in any sense coming out of you other than an abusive rant at fellow bloggers who want to discuss valid points.

So losing 5 out of the last 6 games doesn’t give anyone the right to question pardew’s tactics and don’t give me injuries because a lot of teams have been hit far worse than us.

I’m pleased we seem to be 4231 but we got a huge stroke of luck against wigan that you conveniently have forgotten and it’s a valid question why aren’t players getting picked on merit and why are some seemingly being played out of position.

Pardew went back to 442 second half against 10 men v Wigan. You have to admit yes we all support the team but he makes some very bizarre and over cautious, sometimes costly descisions. Go look at the table.

Marveaux definitely off now then? Yeah, after one decent display against 10 man wigan he should be autostart. He should take up one of the dozens of offers of european champs who are queuing up for him. Why is Abeid not a starter?Anyone else want to field this one?

why should playing away be any different? it’s 11 v 11 against a fulham team who are really struggling. Why not have 2 people running rings round them rather than relying on benny to be our only spark all the time.

  • 91 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:44 PM

I cannot agree with this madness that Marv should be a cert ahead of Jonas, the workrate of Guti, especially away from home is invaluable.

Marv still has an awful lot more to do to prove his readiness for the 1st team. He could always be a good option from the bench is we need something else in the final half hour.

Jonas still has a lot to offer this team, he has done admirably in the past so we owe the man a bit of respect.

I guarantee that if Marveaux left, he’d work his way into the France set up. Jonas was good in his first season but he’s past it now. He used to be fast. I think he’s gained too much muscle. He was 2 stone lighter in his first season.

Rotonda – sorry but i really have to take you up on this –

‘we got a huge stroke of luck against wigan that you conveniently have forgotten and it’s a valid question why aren’t players getting picked on ‘

Thats just rubbish. Along with ‘the penalty was harsh’ it just doesnt pan out. What I saw against Wigan was the game was pretty even before the penalty but we definitely posed the bigger threat – we always looked like compromising them and we did, their defender risked a barge when Cisse had got the edge in front of him. Nobody got hurt but it was a foul, in the box, last man on an opp, stonewall decision made for the ref. The rest of the game was Wigan’s own making, and I have seen 10-man teams come from behind and win. I cant stand all this justifying pessimistic claptrap with ‘we got lucky’ You make your own luck. If you cant give the lads credit when they do a job, I really hope you are never at SJP so the lads cant hear you moaning.

I think the first half will be difficult as Benny, Tiote and Santon get their legs back under them coming off injuries. If they are fit, I’m looking for a 2-1 win for us.

Jonas and Santon have to shut down Duff and Sidwell and Collo can handle Petric… Weak link is Perch on Berbatov… Fingers crossed if we can’t pick up three points at Fulham the next few matches look lost too…

  • 119 achtoon // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:56 PM

Just watched highlights of the wigan game and cisse was class out wide and his link up play with ba was great.

  • 120 kingkev9 // Dec 10, 2012 at 7:57 PM

Check the toastie- you’d bring in Marv instead of Ba!!! Just like last Monday you wanted Ba dropped for Ranger!?!? I think that sums up your football knowledge.

Rotonda- yes we have had a bad run, a terrible run actually and I don’t think we’ve played well for 90 mins once this season. However, our team has been so unsettled every week, our season last year was built on a super start with a consistent team and back 4. Injuries this season have been costly but even more costly is the lack of investment by the board again. Last season we totally over achieved and to maintain a top 5/6 position we needed to but 3/4 top new players.

What I find bemusing is people on here wanting the likes of ranger, Abeid, good playing when in truth they aren’t good enough and they probably haven’t even seen them play apart from football manager!

Watching Jonas play, He is adding shit all, not running in the help out the defence, just walking and watches the opponent go past him. tioté: too risky

only real quality players we have imo are santon and ba

  • 217 TurkishFan101 // Dec 10, 2012 at 8:30 PM

@Beattie25 You are absolutly right, He is scared to switch Ba to Left because Ba will strop and request a transfer for more wages. It worked last season, he would rather rely on Ba then hes whole team. Cisse is clearly not a winger.
Put on Marvo then switch ben Arfa to middle just behind BA/Cisse

If the opposition have a player in the side that hasn’t scored a goal in X amount of games, he will score against us.
If the opposition have never come from behind to beat a team since X amount of time, they will come from behind and beat us.
If the opposition have never had a penalty kick awarded in X amount of games, they will get one against us…If they have never scored a penalty in x amount of games they will score against us.
If the opposition has played sh_t all season…all of a sudden they will play a blinder against us.

  • 243 Oleg G // Dec 10, 2012 at 8:39 PM

For the love of god, get Shola on. Can’t believe that neither of our big Senegal boys can keep a ball up top. Both look very shaken on the ball, never a comfortable touch. A midfield 6 would have a better chance of scoring.

Thank god we have Anita and Simmo shoring things up. Tiptoe takes far too long on the ball too. Joan’s can hold a ball but that’s about it.

Same story as last year, being outclassed by 1 touch, fluid, aggressive, high tempo football. Caught on the break.

Ba and cisse and parts should have a good look at Fulham if they want to see how to play to big imposing strikers up top.

We will never break this defence down and not because its amazing, we just can’t play at their tempo.

At least in Anita we have a mobile player that hunts the ball down.

I remember when Jol was linked with the job after hughton. I said it would have been a great appointment and everybody laughed. Sorry but look at what he has done with Fulham in terms of playing style. What could he do with the quality of our squad?

Not Pards bashing but his football philosophy is cack, along with the coaches. Don’t care if Carver is a Geordie, he seems like a lovely bloke but we don’t have a single coach that can compliment our skilled players with some flair football.

  • 281 Jamiemac // Dec 10, 2012 at 8:48 PM

I’ve always been one to keep quiet on Williamson but the rage has bottled up too long now, he’s absolutely useless, I hope we get at least 1 top CB in January. The reason we were successful last year is our core was top quality. This year for our core we have Taylor and Cabaye who are injured and Colo and Tiote don’t look half the players they were.

Jonas hasn’t really done anything good or bad, Simmo has been really solid defensively but lacks skill offensively. Ben Arfa doesn’t look 100% match fit. Ba has been sloppy.

A positive for me is the energy Anita shows. Constantly running trying to win the ball or always in a good position. Cisse is also working really hard for the team. That’s all I can find really.

And my god are the Fulham fans awful? haha

  • 323 nick_9 // Dec 10, 2012 at 8:56 PM

Willo couldnt win a fight with himself let alone a header. tiote is turning into another Nicky Butt in his later days, spinning around and then misplacing his passes. Tiote is way off form thsi season, everu game him, willio and simpson are liable for playing passes too short. Guti is another one, cannot cross, pass or dribble now and is a waste of a player on the field. Cisse and Ba arent being given any quality service but blimey those boys are struggling to hold the ball up, probably because the movwmwnt in the team is poor and the balance is woeful. We might as well play 4:5:1 as hoofing it to those two is no different to passing the ball back to the opposition after they have kicked it out of play/

Would have loved Jol. How can Pardew be a such a thick and stubborn numpty? 20 + games and he’s still playing Ba and Cisse instead of alternating them centrally. Cisse as a right winger is a joke. Still plays Willo instead Perch and Willlo is killing us game after game. Guti same old same old.

  • 338 Klam3r // Dec 10, 2012 at 8:58 PM

    First half…

    Positives;
    Anita
Almost goal from corner!!! (that’s just depressing)

    Negatives; Where to begin?
Jonas. He’s the new Geremi. He’s lost his legs and is finished at this level.
Pardew. As predictable as they get. Opposite managers must love to play us this season. Not much chess going on from our side :/
Williamson. He is just poor. Warmed the bench at Portsmouth and shouldn’t be on it here.
Several “class players” is a long way from their potential. It’s not one player out of form but many. I blame the coaching staff. Something isn’t right, at the minute…!

Marvaux in for Jonas please, and cross what you’ve got. We need last seasons luck to win this. I say 1-2 at full time ;)

  • 339 jimiley // Dec 10, 2012 at 8:59 PM

People blaming Jonas for Santon being caught out after watching Gary Neville expose him. Santon has improved immensely but it’s a fact he bombs forward and leaves a big hole constantly. He is a full back and should play like a full back not a winger

  • 343 Beattie25 // Dec 10, 2012 at 9:00 PM

    Catchy

I was one of the few last year complaining about how poor we were despite the results and leauge finish.

Much like you are now, i was mocked and abused but ultimatley I could see the quality but couldnt understand why it wasnt being used to its full potential.

Pardew wants his Ferrari’s, Lamborgini’s and Buggatis to drive around the city doing slow pain staking tasks in order to get the kids to school rather than letting the fcukers rev thier engines and tear up the race track, blitzing everything in sight.

We cannot buy players and suddenly escape this. Those saying ‘wait until January’, it guarentees nothing.

We have the quality but tactically we are being let down, motivationally we are being let down and financially we are being let down.

I’m sorry guys but it is easier to lose a manager and his philosophies than to buy new players and allow this poor football to continue.

We give them so much space, dont close down, and cant put passes together – the long speculative shunts are no good. This is not a fault of any manager but players who seem to have little confidence in themselves and each other. Tiote should go off in fact he’s more culpable for giving them chances than anyone on their side. Jonas has not been that bad actually so I dont get the negative bandwagon rubbish. Anita is MoM so far,Ba cannot make a decent pass. everyone else needs to wake up

  • 356 Carryingcoals // Dec 10, 2012 at 9:04 PM

We would all love Jonas to score, although whether it was a tap in or a 30 yard volley, it still wouldn’t atone for the ineffectiveness which now embodies his game.

He offers nothing as a winger. Cisse offers nothing when not as a CF.

WIlliamson was incredibly unlucky but yet the fact remains he isn’t good enough.

We can’t win when we concede first, we have copious amounts of problems and this must be rectified.

At this time I don’t see light at the end of the tunnel; the problems we talk about week in, week out persist.

  • 621 Oleg G // Dec 10, 2012 at 9:55 PM

    In short.
-Too many mistakes, specially in defense.
-No midfield for most parts of the game.
-Taking HBA out and putting Marv instead of adding Marv as another playmaker, didn’t do anything.
-Ameobi didn’t do anything. We need a small fast forward
-Long balls, not enough ball control. Not enough creativity when attacking. Crosses are horrible at most and those which are good, just don’t get to any target man.

  • 625 ToonDownSouth // Dec 10, 2012 at 9:57 PM

OK, I’m firmly in the ‘Pardew is clueless’ camp now.

What do we do in training?

We can’t defend set pieces, we can’t attack set pieces, we can’t cross the ball, when we do cross the ball the strikers movement is terrible, we can’t pass short, we can’t pass long…

What the hell do they do for 4 days a week at Benton? Do they just spend the whole week working on one clever set piece routine?

Also, can anyone give me the stats on how often we lose possession when Simpson recieves the ball? I’d honestly imagine it must be 70+ %.

Simpson, Jonas and Cisse were all complete passengers in the game, and those are not positions in which we do not have players to step in and replace them.

There’s no chance of Pardew leaving, because MA does not care about football – I think everyone typing ‘Pardew out!’ needs to realise that, else it’s just going to be disappointing for you.

  • 626 Nufc-83 // Dec 10, 2012 at 9:57 PM

  • 627 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 10, 2012 at 9:57 PM

Much better second half performance, simply didn’t get the rub of the green that our play deserved. Anita looks like he will be a very good player and Ben Arfa once more showed exactly the type of class that will win us points on his own.

On the downside, defensively we were very, very poor, dismal performances from Willo and Santon, Colo looked very suspect at times too, even though he showed why he should be going forward if play permits. Tiote was awful for a large part of the game, although in the 10/15 mins before coming off he passed the ball a lot better.

Ba is so selfish, he plays for himself and no one else. Disappointing but the overall performance was one of hard work and effort just unfortunate that the result went against us.

  • 628 Magpies-till-d3ath // Dec 10, 2012 at 9:57 PM

I’m telling you now guys, we’re in trouble, BIG TROUBLE! From top 5 one year, to relegation fight the next. Ben Arfa shouldn’t be playing for a team like this, he’s the only that was in that XI tonight that offered something going forward.

  • 629 jasper // Dec 10, 2012 at 9:58 PM

Bizarre subs. Guti’s legs have gone. Forwards have lost belief, not taking the gambles in the box. We were dominant for long periods second half and but never really looked like scoring against a poor side. The subs should have come on for Tiote, Cisse and Gutierrez after 60 – 65 mins.
I don’t think AP has what it takes to get them up off the floor.

  • 630 siqkicks // Dec 10, 2012 at 9:58 PM

I have no idea how guti gets a game he doesn’t do anything for the team. Simpson needs to be sold , out of the 10 crosses he had in the box don’t think one even gets a newcastle head on it. after jan simpson, guti and williamson must never be in the starting lineup again. Our answer to get back in the game today was to shoot it outside the box hope shwarzer screws up and rebound it in. So disappointed in this loss colo at times after HBA went off look liked our most likely source of goal MOM for me.

  • 631 LargeSadMenace // Dec 10, 2012 at 9:58 PM

    Toonacious

I don’t dispute the errors he made in the game or that he is perhaps past his best but what I don’t understand is the sheep mentality on here of ppl singling Guti out and completely failing to give credit where it is due-When Ben Arfa went off Guti created more chances than anyone else. There are problems at this club way above Guti’s head and if the perpetrators showed nywhere near the passion for this club as does Jonas then maybe we’d be in a totally different positionn right now.

  • 632 Rotonda heights // Dec 10, 2012 at 9:58 PM

    Enjoyable 2nd half.
    Very end to end.
Better formation but wrong people in wrong positions, will pardew ever learn.
Simmo will never find a team mate with a cross.
Cisse is not a right winger
Perch well lets face it anyone is better than Willo
Guti wasn’ too bad today but Obertan, benny and Marveaux behind cisse OR Ba would be way more potent.

I guess Hughton’s face didn’t fit because I can’t think of many managers who have lost 6 out of the last 7 who are in absolutely no danger of getting sacked!

  • 633 Offkey // Dec 10, 2012 at 9:59 PM

My questions to Pardew would be…………..

  • 634 Raj // Dec 10, 2012 at 9:59 PM

valiant effort i must say.. After a long time, saw some fluency in play. May be more coz of Fulham pissing in their pants in the last 10 mins or so. But please!!!

    1. Sub Tiote for next 5 matches and show him how Bigi will play better than him at that position.
    2. Sub Guti for the next 5 matches and show him how Marv will play beter than him at that position
    3. Get Cisse training for avoiding running offside…
    4. Tell Ba to pass, or he can get the hell out of here..
    5. Buy a CB and RB/LB for christ’s sake!!
    6. Play Benny at ACM, with Anita and Marv on both sides, Bigi as CDM, then Cisse and Ba make more sense.
    7. Work on the setpieces like the Colo one. What is all that hoofing to that hopeless Willo.

Feel bad for Colo and Santon tonite. And Anita too. So much running and commitment from them. HWTL

  • 653 kelykos // Dec 10, 2012 at 10:06 PM

We have far too much liabilities for Premier League football, so many avoidable mistakes which are more or less costly.

Plenty of time we got caught due to an easy ball given away cheaply. Players are either not focused or not at the right level.

They need to react because it becomes really worrying. We did better in after the second goals but we have a manager with strange tactics. Ameobi for Ben Arfa, seriously ? Why not Marveaux who can’t create space, and can cross? Gutierrez looked really tired he could have been substituted instead of Anita.

But generally speaking, really disappointed by the first half.

  • 654 Rotonda heights // Dec 10, 2012 at 10:07 PM

I think without his individual brilliance and a huge amount of luck last season this would have happened a lot sooner.

Every team has found us out, banning open training sessions is a joke because Pardew only has one tactic.
    he’s never going to be a Mourinho with a plan A, B and C.

    Big Pappa Cisse

Guti has worked hard this season, and worked hard this evening too. He may lack a little in an attacking sense but he was one of the few players who rarely gave the ball away and worked hard to win the ball when we lost it.

He was nowhere near one of the worst players on the field from a NUFC perspective.

  • 656 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 10, 2012 at 10:08 PM

Has Danny Simpson ever made an assist? Every
time he gets the balls, he whips it in the box without thinking.

The commentators have said that Debuchy is about to sign. Hopefully they’re right.

Coloccini was very good going forward today but was at fault for their second goal. Williamson was at fault for the first one.

By all means replace Guti with marv, this would be a worthwhile experiment. i would keep benny on the right though as I feel he is more of a threat cutting inside to shoot. But I don’t believe it will prove or justify the abuse Guti has recieved on this blog of late. In fact, it makes me sick that keyboard warriors come on here and abuse one of our own, call me old-fashioned but soon as a player pulls on the black and white they deserve the respect and pride of every Geordie. The ‘digital booers’ on here are probably the same as those who boo at the final whistle at SJP, shame on you.

  • 659 ONLINE GUY // Dec 10, 2012 at 10:11 PM

First thing a new manager would do with this NEWCASTLE side would be to …..

Drop Guitti… Guitti just needs a rest and a change of posistion when he comes back.

Bring Marvo in from the start ..Replace Williamson ….Get rid of SHOLA AMEOBI

And only play Sammy for the last 10 mins of games if we are winning 3-0 this to see if he Grow’s because he is no more a prem league footballer than my Jack Russell.

Who else can I drop ..? who’s a contender ? Simpson ‘s Heart is not really in it ..He seems to be protecting himself from any hard tackle or effort. He is scared to pick up an injury that might ruin his big payday free transfer ,,He does give about 75% in a game but when He has to get really stuck in he’s more of a watcher..keeps clear of any possible hard stuff like a tackle or two .

Shola Is a joke of a footballer really ..and we should have started with Marvo,

We played ok ..but where is the Leader on the pitch ?

  • 664 YOY_Yorkshire // Dec 10, 2012 at 10:18 PM

Hey folks… some positives but also significant negatives … better crosses tonight in the second half from which no one was challenging (the keeper shouldn’t be gathering balls at his feet unchallenged from perfectly good crosses …. our strikers lacked anticipation as well as communication). Tactics including substitutions again a problem… putting Stanton with HBA first half, taking off HBA and replacing with Stroller… first half our passing was poor , too many hoofs not only are our long balls poor we appear not to get the second ball. Defensively inept at times esp Santon -position- willo-just not enough quality- and Simmo-enough said on here. Collo also lacked guile at times and not for the first time this season was to blame in part for one if not both goals. Positives… Anita, HBA, Ba and Cisse. Krul was immense.

First of all, it is ridiculous to assert that any of our players should be beyond criticism, they are being paid alot of money and fans have a right to expect a premiership standard of both effort and competence. Secondly, there are people on here who seem to think these negative observations will magicly transmit themselves to our players. We are on this blog, we are not at the match, the players are not reading this blog. Blind faith is going to lead to accepting mediocrity as the norm. We are going backwards….fast. You can put all the positive spin on it you like, the league table tells it’s own story.

Positives out of tonight – anita, pace energy and plays with his head up.Negatives too many to mention but the main ,perversely was the much improved performance in the 2nd half – it gives Pardew all the opportunities he needs to go on about bad luck, not getting the breaks etc etc,all of which deflect away from the real issues in front of his nose.
I dont think all the players have suddenly become bad players but there doesnt seem to be a collective fight to win the 1st or the second balls or the ability to impose ourselves on a game. The players dont seem to have a plan they believe in – not on the same wavelength when passing,no closing down, too many tackles lost – Christ we even made Berbatov look like Norman Hunter.
Fed up of seeing teams run straight through us – totally depressed -cant see 3 worse teams than us in the EPL

    Toonacious

See my post at 631. i don’t believe players, managers or club owners are or should be beyond criticism but only that focusing all criticism on one individual is cruel, ignorant and pointless. I am far from blindly faithful, quite the opposite, but it is futile and regressive to focus all blame on one or two individual players when much more powerful and influential individuals make much more vital and damaging mistakes, much more consistently at the top level of our football club.

Infact: We can even replace Cisse with many other players like Shane Ferguson or Gael Bigirimana playing 5 midfield to create a goal.
