Newcastle In For Ukrainian International Striker – Video

7:32 pm, Wednesday, December 12th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 180 Comments

Ukraine International striker Artem Milevskiy has been at Dynamo Kyiv since 2002, and it’s the only club he has ever played for. The 6’2″ striker is the same age as Demba Ba – 27 – and Artem is rumored to be a player Newcastle are witching and who could potentially be brought to Tyneside next month if Demba Ba leaves via that release clause in his contract.

Artem Milevskiy

Artem Milevskiy – Ukrainian striker

But the 50 times capped Ukrainian International is also out of contract in the summer, and so he could be brought into Newcastle on the cheap, and that sort of deal always appeals to Newcastle these days.

And we have to believe the Magpies have been watching several strikers, and if Ba does move, or Shola Ameobi goes off to the African Cup of Nations next month, then Newcastle will very likely bring in another striker, to finally strengthen the squad.

The story is in the Sun and the striker had previously been linked with Liverpool, but they also report that Kyiv could let him go for £6M in January, rather than lose him for nothing in the summer.

But there’s no way Newcastle will pay out that kind of money for a player who will become a free agent in six months.

The striker’s agent Barry O’Connor has confirmed there is interest form Premier League clubs for the striker:

“There is plenty of interest from more than one club in England.”

Artem could be a decent acquisition for Newcastle but not at £6M.

Artem Milevskiy has played 273 times for Kyiv with 87 goals, and 50 times for Ukraine with 8 goals.

Here’s some video of the player.

We need a pacy striker to run the channels because Campbell is not ready yet. Go on mike, get your cheque book out and sign Doumbia. Or am I asking for too much ? :)

  • 2 Kyo // Dec 12, 2012 at 7:42 PM

I wish we didn’t have a joke club owner.

Repost – I’ve put win. When’s the van coming for me

On santon. I thought Gary Neville (who is normally very good) was wrong on his assessment on Monday. He had moved into the correct position when we had possession in midfield. We lost the ball in a bad area which inturn left him exposed IMO.

What we need is a young striker (20-23 years old max) who has an eye for goal and bags of pace. Someone like that will not come cheap so Ashley needs to realise whilst he has secured some excellent deals over the past couple of seasons, when it comes to a top class young striker or even a centre half your going to have to pay top dollar! And with the situation we are in now if he doesn’t cough up he needs to sell the club to someone who will and cares about this club more then profit margins etc. Surely he must realise with the wind fall coming to every club in the premier league next season that spending say £20-30 mil now will be paid back 2 or 3 times over???

Artem Milevskiy has played 273 times for Kyiv with 87 goals, and 50 times for Ukraine with 8 goals.

your kidding right these are bad stats for his age, surely we can get a young lad who’s twice as good

  • 6 nick_9 // Dec 12, 2012 at 7:47 PM

Jimiley personally I think seventh is a little too high for us as it stands, looking at our next four games we could come away with as little as three points and that would take us one game past the half way point with 18 games remaining and twenty points. Realistically we would need around 60 points to get 7th so that would be another 40 from 18 games. That’s 13 wins and 1 draw or at worst 11 wins and 7 draws to achieve 60 points. Now that’s all speculative rubbish so hopefully we can pick up more than 3 points from our next four games and push on from there. If we find our form we could very well finish 7th if we are taking points off the teams fighting for that position. We beat Tottenham and drew with Everton so who knows

  • 7 Black and White with an army lol // Dec 12, 2012 at 7:48 PM

if we want a star from Ukraine i recommend yermolenko he’s much better than Artem and he’s 23-24 years old

  • 8 sirtoongospel // Dec 12, 2012 at 7:49 PM

This lad is a proper team player. He would be available at around £3m. Would be a good fit for us, but would stil like Remy in also.

I really hope that we sign a couple in the first week of January.

A CM player is crucial as Cheick is away. Then a CB. Get those 2 done first then see if we can do more business. If the board don’t see the urgency of those 2 positions then they are fools. We need more but would be a miracle of there was 3 or more came in.

Walcott? Slightly better obertan with higher wage demands. No thanks.

Hotdog – totally agree regarding santon, we was in an attacking position and he is one of our strongest attackers who can do something with the ball.

  • 16 Jail for Ashley // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:04 PM

I posted something similar earlier but there wasn’t too many people on, there is a lot of people comparing this season to the 2009 season when we went down with stats, what people must remember from that season is that we had a NUFC legend resign an imminent heart attack looming for his replacement, on top of fan unrest not seen since the early eighties, this year we have what is classed as the most stable period in our history with a manager in charge who is very unlikely to resign or have a heart attack, which stats do you think are worse.

  • 17 Black and White with an army lol // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:04 PM

  • 18 CisseIsALegend // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:04 PM

No we haven’t had any good games. Some people say we played well against Fulham and stoke but we out defence didn’t so that’s not a good performance. Our only decent game was against a 10 man Wigan.

  • 21 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:08 PM

    So the verdict is out!!!

The majority think that we are where we are because of lack of transfer activity, but the majority also thought back in august that we where in a better place than last season!

…sorry, but what a bunch of hypocrites! (just had to get it of my chest :))

was it ed that posted a video at the beginning of the season on youtube with Amilfitano, look how that turned out.

  • 23 nick_9 // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:14 PM

    Jesper hindsight perhaps?

I wasn’t one who was happy with the last window and didn’t see it as progress, Guthrie, lovenkrands, smith and Forster seemed a lot to lose with only really Guthrie coming in, we also lost eight or nine young players. Everyone knew we needed two more defenders, perhaps a striker and midfielder too. I was amazed people quickly said we were better off when you never know how players will settle. We could very well sign Debuchy, Douglas, sissokko and a striker this window but who knows how they will settle?

If any of those posts regarding finishing seventh were aimed at me then you need to have a read of the comment again, 7th is a massive ask but is not out of reach. A couple I wins and we are back in the mixer and might have a good window for once, that is coming from someone who always thrives for better but even I can see not all is lost

of course it’s lack of transfer if i may recall Newcastle have always had loads of injuries from season to season for many years so i would of thought from the injuries history we would of bought in at least 5-6 more players instead of 1 and also we are in euro now so it would make perfect sense to bring in more layers

  • 27 Transfer Sage // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:17 PM

    Big pappa

I think Campbell is ready. Pardew even said himself he is on par with shola in training and said another time shola is a key player so surely pardew thinks he is ready.

The reality is we won’t know if he can step up if he isn’t given a chance. Look t how sterling blossomed at Liverpool with a chance

  • 28 Transfer Sage // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:18 PM

Also after watching us and the mackems this year and bits of boro including them tonight.

It’s safe to say boro is the only north east team to play football.

  • 29 Transfer Sage // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:19 PM

    Black and white.

Not arguing transfers would help, of course they would.

We should still be further up the league with the quality we have.

A good manager would have us top ten in sure

  • 30 nick_9 // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:20 PM

Transfer if that is the case then why isn’t Campbell being given a chance in training or when we are short? I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews for him yet gangster ranger ‘who
Must try harder to be on time’ gets an appearance before him. If you’re good enough you are good enough regardless of age, raheem sterling, jack Wiltshire.

  • 31 Jail for Ashley // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:20 PM

    Jesper,
I think you’ll find that most people blaming the lack of transfer activity in the summer were not the ones saying we were better off, maybe a few but certainly not in the majority, might be prudent to take back the hypocrite remark :(

i can’t wait for Campbell to come through again he could be our next Shearer and also at a young age im looking forward for him to develop into a world class player

  • 33 Transfer Sage // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:23 PM

    Nick

I have no idea why he isnt given a chance.

He looks a class above in reserves and did well in the couple pre season games he featured.

No idea why pardew said e was competing with shola but seems to have no intention to play him. Ranger is useless, always has been. He is a thug who wasted his chance, Campbell should be ahead of him on talent and commitment.

Pardew is scared of change and tacking a chance. We saw that last year with no santon or Ben arfa for a long long time.

  • 34 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:24 PM

Nick…hindsight only works to one’s advantages – I really don’t think that is a fair argument. People find excuses that fits the argument. Last season we finished 5th with the same team, same manager and we have even promoted some of the youngsters that didn’t participate last season. We have had the service of both Ba and Cissé from the begining of the season and Benny has been fit from the start.

Now we all wanted a few more signings and as for a CB we all wnated that last season as well – it is nothing new really. This hypocracy is really starting to annoy me; no one wants to take responsibility and the blame it always where it fit us the most. I like Pardew and I think he means well, but he has got to lay off the arrogance and accept he was wrong and move on (that’s what the better man does)!

    First comment……
Think we need a few good players in Jan, left or right back, striker and a centre half. Dare i say that if Ba wants to leave let him and buy a striker Cisse can play along side. If we can keep the team we had Mon with no more injuries things will get better.Yes we have a hard month ahead…….. Keep the faith….

  • 37 Jail for Ashley // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:26 PM

    B/W lol,
Shearer banged in a top flight hatrick at the age of seventeen, either Campbell isn’t good enough in training or Pards likes him even less than Ranger.

Have you seen much of Campbell? Would love somebody else’s opinion I have seen a few games and he is special. He has won te Nike cup pre season player of tournament two years running. Players who won it once, tevez, xavi, Torres….he is a talent.

He has pace and would give us a different option. Stretch teams more and allow us to open more gaps. No idea why he hasn’t featured

  • 39 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:30 PM

JFA…if the majority think we are where we are because of lack of transfer activity and the majority back in august thought we were better off this season compared to last season, wouldn’t quite a few people be represented in both categories?

…and wouldn’t quite a few then be stating both points of views?

  • 40 Jail for Ashley // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:30 PM

    Jesper,
Please mate take the blinkers off, it has nothing to do with HBA, Cisse or Ba, the defence needed seriously strengthening and it wasn’t even after average RM stroke utility player RTAylor was ruled out for the season.

  • 41 Dannyo // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:31 PM

    @nick9
Campbell has been out with an injury for the past 1-2 months and returned to the squad in the visit for Bordoux.
Also, the Chronicle today suggested that he might get a new run out sooner rather than later.

  • 42 Black and White with an army lol // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:32 PM

with Campbell not starting more i think it has something to do with his youth contract, unless he’s on pro contact now im not sure, so he will be training with youths coaches not first team untill he signs a pro contract

  • 43 nick_9 // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:33 PM

The trouble with Pardew is that he has a habit of holding players back because he feels they need to learn about the game or he tries to protect them. Revel, mascherano, harem Ben Arfa, santon and perhaps now marveaux an Campbell?

Trouble is the only players to say it benefitted them is santon and Ben Arfa, santon claims he learned more about the English style and Ben Arfa said he knows to work harder to track back. Trouble is we were all crying out for him for ages after seeing glimpses, whether Pardew was right or not who knows? We never get to see them much in their early period so it’s hard to say how they would have faired in comparison. Seen glimpses from marveaux so wondering how he would do with a spell in the side

  • 44 Jail for Ashley // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:34 PM

    You’re confusing matters :(

  • 45 Transfer Sage // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:35 PM

    Black and white

Pardew said he is training with the First team and he made the bench a few times so that can’t be it.

    Dannyo

He has been out but should have had a go before that injury really.

I don’t understand why pardew says he is as good as anyone in training (implying cisse and Ba in that too) and then doesn’t give him a go, not even in Europe for 45 mins.

  • 46 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:35 PM

Black…the mission sratement this season was top 8 or 10 if i recall. The team we have finished 5th and be have kept our starting 11 and added Anita. Now it might not be fair to ask our current team to emulate last season, but a top 8 finish (maybe 10 at worse) should have been possible don’t you think?

Right now we are 5th from the bottom or so and that’s not because of lack of transfer activity (not finishing in the top 8 is lack of trasnfers…)

  • 47 Black and White with an army lol // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:36 PM

  • 48 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:37 PM

Jesper…..Tonight might not be the night for me, as I’ve already been called a hypocrite once tonight (perhaps for the same reason?!?). But is is being a hypocrite if you say you were wrong?

A fair few, myself included, thought we would have done better with injuries and form than we have, how wrong were we? What would that make us?

Think you’re being a tad harsh cap’n (but you do like to run a tight ship ;) ).

People can learn as time goes on and alter their perceptions without being a hypocrite, no?

  • 49 Transfer Sage // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:40 PM

    Nick

I don’t get what they learn from reserve footy. It’s much lower quality, slower paced, not as competitive….and to make it worse you are playing with worse players in your team so not learning how to play with and against proper prem league players

  • 50 Dannyo // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:41 PM

    @Transfer
I think he’d be picked for a starter over Ranger if he’d kept himself fit mate.
    Only a matter of time.
Hard for a youngster to come into a losing team and perform tbh.
But maybe, being a born and bred Geordie, he could’ve had a different attitude.

  • 51 Transfer Sage // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:43 PM

    Jesper

    I’m with you.

We got 5th last year with this team. Had no Anita and only half a season of cisse.

I know we needed to strengthen to maintain top 5 but even still we should be around 10th.

  • 52 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:43 PM

    JFA…then enlighten me please!

…please don’t start with the injurie crisis again (every team have injuries mate) Our defense is the same this season – last season Santon took a long time to gel and Saylor was injured better part of the season. This season we have lost Raylor who had lost his place to Santon and Fergy can be just a good a backup. Saylor is back in februar and we might do somthing about that situation come january.

For me it’s just easy pickings when you say lack of transfers are to blame (there is absolutely nothing to back that up other than a belief that it would have made a difference.

  • 53 nick_9 // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:43 PM

Ah sugar Dannyo, I knew he was injured a while back and totally forgot.

I agree that the lads should s doing better, some fans need to open their eyes and see that if it wasn’t for certain goals from the likes of cisse and Ba and the defense performing better we would of had a dire season. This season cisse hasn’t been banging them in and the defensive errors have cost us massively. If we signed some defensive reinforcements to cut out the mistakes that would help, next step would be to gel better and get some quality service. Even with cabaye in the team he very rarely threads a ball to cisse or Ba, whether that is because he is too deep I will leave you to decide. Look at our wingers, hba isn’t a winger and prefers going for glory, Jonas cannot cross and the fullbacks aren’t the most creative but santon offers more. Without hba we are droid of any creativity. It’s a common thought that if you are creating chances you will be ok

  • 54 Ian Toon // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:46 PM

Jesper- MA gambled with a small group of quality top draw players staying fit and in form. With hindsight they gambled and lost. Injuries, suspensions played there part in the dip in form. The only area where I plead guilty is that I anticipated a greater contribution from developing prospects and players like Abeid, Amalfitano and Tavernier weighing in with a contribution when called upon. In reality we have a small squad which lacks depth and when losing it’s spine of
Krul, Coloccini and Cabaye would struggle. Pardew anticipated last
May signing 3 or 4 senior players to build on last seasons 5th place finish and to cope with the Europa. Pardew as I did when this did not materialise felt we had to just get on with it. We have as a result stagnated but it’s not Pardew’s fault. Ashley did not support him but he will know that he has to protect his investment of that I am convinced and aired ad nauseum.

  • 55 Transfer Sage // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:46 PM

    Dannyo

I don’t mind if he doesn’t perform. He latches onto passes through the middle and we don’t do that too well so maybe not great for him.

All I want is to see him given a try. He is a top talent and at the age where he needs a few games.

  • 56 nick_9 // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:50 PM

Sage I agree, the difference between reserve team football and the premiership is a lot, I would much prefer loan deals to championship clubs. Sending our loan players to leagues 1 and 2 might get them game time but we wouldn’t sign a player from league one or two would we? We barely sign players from the championship and when we do they don’t have a great record. Perch probably being the best.

  • 57 Ian Toon // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:50 PM

Ibiza- take a compulsory count. Don’t get caught on the ropes.

  • 58 Dannyo // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:50 PM

    @Transfer
Many are afraid he’s too short to be great in the game.
But how much rubbish isn’t that? How big is Silva or Aguero? Britton?
You don’t have to be big enough to be good enough. That’s well proven through the ages.
Campbell has the potential to be a England regular by the age of 20.
I can understand AP for not fielding him at this moment.
With the recent experience with his current crop of fringe youngsters not performing well enough, is trying another the answer?
Unfair for Campbell perhaps, but perfectly understandable that experience comes first at this point.

  • 59 Ian Toon // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:53 PM

Dannyo- He is 5’6″ hopefully still growing. How talls his dad?

  • 60 nick_9 // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:53 PM

Size is only an issue if you’re asking the players to be physical or win an aerial
Battle. Campbell certainly isn’t going to make an impact if Williamson and krul are sending it long to him nor will he win many corners. If we played to his strengths he would be that, I bet he would flourish in the Swansea team.

  • 61 Magpies-till-d3ath // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:54 PM

Not really what I’m hoping for in January, but it will be better than nothing. I was sorta thinking more along the lines of Remy/Doumbia but then again the chances of that fat b*stard getting his wallet out are very slim. He’ll be facing a revolt from fans if he does nothing in the window again!

  • 62 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:54 PM

Ibiza…I would probably say that a person who admits he’s wrong is a better man. I said yesterday that you take a stand until you take a new one – so no I would not call you a hyprocrit.

…but if you go through the last few days of post can you honestly tell me that this is a case of people saying the made a bad asumption or is it all just in the light of what we call hindsight (we don’t even know if signing a few more players would have made a difference, we are just assuming so. Is it really that simple? And what about responsibility?)

…if people take offense from me saying I think some are hyprocrites maybe they should ak them self if their is a vilid point to the argument instead of dismissing it and just feel targeted. I mean no disrespect to anyone, but at a certain point it just gets annoying.

I am the cap’n you know and yes a run a tight ship – but I am nothing but fair…harsh, but fair :)

  • 63 Transfer Sage // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:55 PM

    Dannyo

I don’t want him to start every prem league game.

But a capital one cup or a Europa league game would have been good. Just to see how he did with the first team boys. Might as well know if he is good enough or not.

Certainly think he is miles ahead in terms of quality than sammy and probably fergie too.

  • 64 Jail for Ashley // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:55 PM

    Jesper I will try :(
For one I have never cited injuries as to what has seemingly gone wrong nor have I been overly harsh towards Pards tactics although he definitely isn’t immune from any criticism, but I do firmly believe in my stance of not strengthening the defence as a MAJOR factor, we all know that Willow and Simpson aren’t quite good enough and especially with Simpson’s contract situation that those two players needed to be upgraded, the morale factor that this has had on the team knowing that the regime looks happy with mediocre imo has been immense.

  • 65 Ian Toon // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:57 PM

Campbell is very quick and nimble . He does need to build up his upper body strength and will as he develops .

  • 66 Transfer Sage // Dec 12, 2012 at 8:59 PM

    Jail

I think it’s safe to say everything has gone against us this year.

Little injuries to players like Ben arfa, colo and tiote then longer term ones to cabaye, Saylor, raylor, obertan

Then poor tactics an team selection

    Very very poor transfer window

    Players out of form

The amount each has caused is problems can be argued but I think we all accept that these factors have all played a part in our season

Here is food for thought, Adam Campbell at a young age is 5ft 7 according to Wikipedia.

    Michael Owen is 5ft 8, Sergio aguero 5 ft 8, aaron Lennon 5 ft 5, oba martins 5 ft 7 1/2, piennar 5ft 7, Baines and Defoe 5 ft 7,

Ian…I would have liked us to have signed a few more players just as much as the next guy. I just refuse to succumb to the easy picking which is to blame our current form on lack of transfer activity.

Our defense is actually better off this season compared to last (we should have sign another CB no doubt about it, but me managed last season). This season we cn still salvages what’s left come january.

I feel some people are taking my comment very personal! Why is that may I ask?

  • 69 Transfer Sage // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:01 PM

    Ian

He does need to do that.

No reason he can’t play even with his current size though. He isn’t a physical player, relies on pace so shouldn’t be as big a problem as it would be for others

  • 71 Dannyo // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:03 PM

    @Ian Toon
Campbell already has a compact build, and with experience his balance will improve.
How tough is it not to knock Santon or HBA off the ball, neither of them are bulky whatsoever, but their balance is 100%.

  • 72 nick_9 // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:04 PM

Jesper why is our Defense better this year? Because its another year under their belts? Of course you know by my questions that I disagree. Last season I think the team as a whole pressed the opposition more

  • 73 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:05 PM

    @ black & white

Only nickname I have heard for Campbell is the ginger ninja :) . Its a confusing situation with Campbell IMO as Pardew played Ranger over him the other night in Bordeaux and we all know how Pardew feels about Nile. He is never going to start over Cisse or Ba but I fully expected to see him get at least a few run-outs in the early stages of the Europa League. It goes back to that old saying, If your good enough your old enough.

  • 74 Thump // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:10 PM

@Big Pappa Cissé: You’re adding 2 and 2 together and getting 5. Campbell was on the bench, yes, but the lad just came back from a pretty serious injury. He’s back in training and that’s great but whether he’s ready for competitive play is a different matter. I think Pardew put him on the bench to show him that he’s still included and to give him a bit of incentive to pick up his training and force his way into the team.

As for Ranger – Pardew made a promise. Keep your nose clean and start acting like a footballer and you’ll see playing time. Can’t blame Pards for that as Ranger undoubtedly has talent and seems to be trying to clean up his act. I thought he was outstanding the other day, to be honest. A bit rusty but played well.

  • 75 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:11 PM

NIck…mainly because this season we have Fergy (who is a much better player this season a fit), we have signed Anita (can play both RB and LB), Santon has gelled and we are not without Saylor for the rest of the season.

…there is alot of positivity here – and yes both Simmo, Perch and Willo are all better players compared to last season (they are the experience wiser). This is difinitely a better defense in my book :)

Campbell should have played before his injury in my opinion. Would offer more than shola in the Europa games.

Also ranger is poor. Doesn’t score at all. And two weeks of behaving doesn’t justify a game for me. Just sack him off, total waste of time and space

  • 77 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:12 PM

Jepser….Your mention of form changes the dynamic of your point for me and also the way it has been perceived.

Form has been bad and I don’t believe it’s just down to transfers. I don’t think many are saying it’s just lack of summer spending, but for many reasons I think at this point it would be naive to think it didn’t…clearly it is part of the problem, but definitely not all of it.

I think people just took your comment as anyone now saying the summer window was bad who thought we were okay is a hypocrite. That alone is harsh, but I’m not sure now that’s exactly what you meant.

Now, back up my crows nest, don’t strike me cap’n.

I would classify both you and Catchy as obsessive compulsive in the endlessly repetitive posts you and Catchy spout. Must be hundreds over the last few months. Unfortunately the well argued posts you do put up are dwarfed by banging on and on and on. Truly depressingly negative. And you can’t be argued with.

I hold to my view that Pardew is as much victim in this as we are and the real villains are Mashley and Dastardly. He ain’t no SAF but nor is he a bad manager. Just look at the current management problems the Gooners and Citeh are having and Floppy Chops has hardly had an earth shattering effect on QPR. Merde happens.

  • 79 Ian Toon // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:16 PM

Jesper- one major thing your overlooking is other teams find you out and look to exploit weakness. They learn from experience a case in pointv was the Man U game this year compared to last. If I was playing against us you now that we have defensive weaknesses and failed to replace Simpson and Williamson. Allied to Cabaye starting the season unfit and Tiote injured in the first game which takes out the central midfield. We were unprepared for a number of increased competitive games. Things don’t stand still in football an awful lot of time and studying OPTA goes into preparing for forthcoming games.
AVP a very modern manager spends hours running through opposition likely formations and drills. I will criticise Pardew for often being too cautious but he is only too aware of the cover he has to afford to a fundementally weak defence. This is why the role Jonas has had to play should not be so easily overlooked.

  • 80 Thump // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:16 PM

@Transfer Sage: I agree with him seeing more time but again, too much, too young, too fast. We all saw what happened to Walcott (extreme example, I admit) and I’d hate to see that happen to somebody with the talent of Campbell. He’s looking to be an outstanding player and hopefully he’ll live up to his hype!

Ranger is far from poor. Keep in mind he played for the reserves a handful of times after being completely locked out since the Championship (correct me if I’m wrong) – he’s bound to need some match practice before he finds his shooting boots. I’d like to see him given another chance and the next hint of a relapse, the door is opened and the spirit of Sir Bob kicking his jacksey out of the club.

  • 81 nick_9 // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:18 PM

Anita being able to cover at fullback is a positive, santon looked good last season but whether he is better or not I am unsure. I was a massive fan last season. Willo and Simpson I believe haven’t changed much and need to be replaced. Ferguson for me still isn’t a full back, I’m just a little but unsure on his defensive abilities but do think he would make a better winger. Perch again I thought he did great towards the end of last season

  • 82 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:20 PM

Ibiza…my point was that the last few days (probably more) alot of posters have pointed fingers, but not much of the criticism have been directed a those in charge and those who are clearly underperforming.

…we try in hindsight to find a better solution or should I say reason – it is just tacky in my book. As TS have said many times today, there are alot of factors to consider and you cannot just focus so blindly on our lack of transfer activity. (there is no proff that it would have made a difference, just a shallow hope it might have had).

I am not having a go at the silver supremo…but wouldn’t I be naive to think he was blameless since we are playing the way he wants, and he is picking the team. As one aunty once said to a Spidey: ‘—with great powers comes great responsibility’ ;) lol

  • 83 Ian Toon // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:21 PM

Transfer- Campbell is a talent. Pardew is concerned about throwing him into a struggling side. He’s not quite match fit but I would not be surprised if we don’t see him later this month.

  • 84 Transfer Sage // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:21 PM

    Thump

Over the past 3/4 season, whatever I this since ranger made a debut I’ve never seen anything to suggest he would be a regular prem player. Maybe ok for championship but lacks quality.

And Walcott has done well. His problem wasn’t so much too much football but not enough. He went from looking good every week at Southampton to the odd game at arsenal.

But what about Rooney, Owen, shearer, messi, fabregas, ronaldo (Brazilian), they all for a chance early on and took it

I think we should get him involved Ben if its 20 mins off the bench. If he can’t hack it use that as a reason for more reserve footy or a loan to get playing time.

  • 85 Jail for Ashley // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:22 PM

    Jesper,
Why on earth is our defence better off this year than last, is it because James Tavernier has stepped up to the plate or that Fergie has proved himself as a top flight player, these lads should be out on loan getting themselves ready to be back up to Premiership class players.Or are we better off simply because RTaylor is out for the season :(

There are lots of factors. Some will be the board, some the manager, some the players and the fans will also play a part, as they always do.

It’s not always so black and white, it certainly doesn’t appear so to me at least, I just think incoming players is a step we should be making before replacing Pardew. He does need to sort some things out though, as does everyone.

Right, well I think that might be as calm as this place is going to be tonight, so I bid thee blog farewell.

  • 92 Spoof // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:29 PM

Yes jesper, we do believe that making two or three signings would have made a difference, that is the usual way to improve your team, Man Utd have built their success on it, as have Chelsea, Spurs and Man City, without signings you will go backwards, if you believe that producing your own talent is the way forward then I’m afraid your wrong, to prove the point try to name a team of local lads who are established in the Premier league, good look with that one, the local talent simply isn’t there and hasn’t been for a while, signing players is the only way, not signing will make you go backwards or stand still at the very best, thats not an assumption its a proven fact, lets not give Mike Ashley reasons not too spend money, he does not need any help on that score. Sorry m8 but you are way off the mark with this one, with your views we would never improve because we couldn’t prove that a signing would improve us, we have Ben Arfa, Santon, Tiote, Cabaye etc, according too you its possible that those players have not improved us, with Obertan you may well have a valid point, but then again without the above mentioned players Obertan could be our star player, you have too sign players to have any chance of succeeding, your view is as wrong as wrong can be.
Rather than concentrate on hypocrisy I would rather concentrate on your naivety

  • 93 Ian Toon // Dec 12, 2012 at 9:30 PM

@Transfer: I think you have to take into account the attitude of those players. All have an air of arrogance about them and that breeds thick skin. Campbell may very well have that, but I would sooner not take the risk and give him time. I definitely agree about loaning him out and giving him 20 from the bench.

There’s only one way we can find out about Ranger. Lest we forget Big Andy did more defensive work than attacking when he started breaking into the first team.

    Transfer,
I’m not saying it is worse, I think people are missing my point Santon is definitely improved but if I’m not mistaken Anita was promised he wouldn’t be played much at RB, the fundamental problem was a shortage of CB coupled with the fact that Willo isn’t quite good enough as a regular first teamer and STaylor is undeniably injury hampered, I also think Tavs and Ferguson should be sent out on loan.

There is always a need to freshen up. If nothing else it forces players to maintain their high levels or lose their spot.

We have very little completion for places.

One thing we could do though is play one central striker as have Ba and cisse compete for that spot. Surely that would drive them to perform.

I think the squad isn’t great, lots of numbers but not much quality in those numbers.

Here’s hoping for some good results this Christmas

  • 132 Sheikh MagToon // Dec 12, 2012 at 10:17 PM

We should get Danny Guthrie back on loan as a cover for either of our midfield 2, neither of whom has performed this season now their main competition left in the summer. Easy and quick deal as Reading want him out. Also sign Danny Rose; quality young left back who will not be costly but will allow Santon to move to right back. Should also seal mackems’ relegation as he’s their only decent player (albeit he’s not theirs). Ba should go, as we’ve changed formation to accomodate a mercenary, even though he’s scored loads. Don’t forget, he didn’t score after first week in Feb last season. Replace with Gudietti from Citey as cover and someone like Remy. Finally, desperately need a centre back to put pressure on Colo who has cost us 5 goals in his last 5 starts (Liverpool, Brugge, Stoke and Fulhamx2).

  • 133 JP...from The Rock // Dec 12, 2012 at 10:18 PM

This guy looks a bit psycho but it’s good in a way as he will need no firing up for games. Though he doesn’t strike me as a Demba Ba replacement. Demba is twice the player this guy looks out to be. His stats aren’t very convincing either.

  • 134 check the toastie // Dec 12, 2012 at 10:19 PM

Spoof, i thought we would do Ok last year as we had a decent team and had invested fine. The PL has a decent top 5 or 6 and then the rest is a much of a muchness.

Being in the bottom 6 last year would have been a disgrace much the same as this. We have international footballers man all through the team, Fulham have a team of journeyman and knock the ball around better than us. Soton could have beat us by 4 and they are a championship side. Remember he has overseen FA Cup defeats to Brighton and Stevenage, thats his stamp.

There can be no excuses as far as i am concerned, people have been brain washed by Pardews bullshit. He has had 2 years and no progress is evident.

Somebody needs to tell me how we have actually improved as a footballing team during his tenure, nobody can and nobody will.

The best we have played under his tenure was his first game against Liverpool when big Andy and Nolan could follow his hoofball tactics off to a tee. Since then he has been lost. Leon Best did him proud with the Hoof tactic, however i for one thought it was just needs must, however this seems to be his style and it is ruining our current team.

  • 136 Transfer Sage // Dec 12, 2012 at 10:23 PM

    Check

I could understand the hoofball to an extent if he signed players for it.

The annoying thing is he has signed players who are technical yet plays the long ball.

I thought he had solved it with 433 last year towards the end but he put an end to it for some reason.

  • 137 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 12, 2012 at 10:38 PM

How many players do you think we’ll sign? 3 is the absolute minimum providing we don’t get rid of our key players. If we get rid of Tiote, I’d like to see Sissokho, Alderewerield, Debuchy and Remy come in. We can sign Diame in the summer.

Not surprised to see Hatem at number one, that is why us fans love him. Most successful dribbler in the prem, not surprised to see santon in the top ten either. Is there any wonder fans rate these two players? It’s obvious we love this type of player and glance why we want to see more from marveaux. Diame is in there as well and a lot of fans want him. We want to be entertained not sat bored watching our own team void of any creativity or ideas. The Wigan game was appalling, 43 thousand and many chose to leave after 80 minutes after watching a pretty lifeless game. Truth hurts.

@4 (bit late but whatever lol)

you mean a player like insigne, or should i say lionel insigne ;-)

    check him out,
    name: insigne
    age: 21
    club: napoli
    country: italy
    international caps: 1 (0)
    international U21: 8(5) games(goals)

hinted to be the italian messi (hasnt played much for napoli as he has spent most of his time in serieB on loan, but had an amazing season last year, would definatly be worth a look at if i was carr/AP/MA)

  • 142 RonVanDam // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:09 AM

    @ Toontime

I agree with you. Insigne will be a upgrade to BA when he leaves

  • 143 jimmysmith // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:18 AM

You’d have to expect a top ten finish from this squad even if we don’t sign anyone. We do have a very strong first 11. A bad spell doesn’t alter that.

We surely can’t continue with this run of injuries and suspensions. The greatest burdens of Europe are now over and we must have learned greatly from the experience of the group games.

We likely will strengthen anyway and finish well inside top ten, as an educated punt especially if Pards can grow a pair and insist Ba play wide and Cisse down the middle, which, even I can see urgently needs to happen.

Oh, and by the way, just in case anyone’s missed it, Ash is a cheapskate. Probably relishing a supper of mashed potato sandwiches, glass of water and a toothpick at this very moment.

  • 144 RonVanDam // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:20 AM

Players that we should ge in this window should be:

Germán Pezzella – Defender (Young Collo)
    Douglas
    Debucery
Insigne (if we dont get Remy)
    Diame

With these players we should fight out of relegation and make our way into the top 10

  • 145 t00ntime // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:27 AM

    @RonVanDam
never heard of pezzella :S where does he play?

i think the other 4 will be great improvements even if ba doesnt leave i would still like insgine just so we have another option upfront (quick and skillful) though i dont think he would be ready to walk into the PL. would probably need a season or 2 like hernandez of coming of the bench (cud be wrong).

lol dont know if it helps any but if your superstitious, the only other player i cudnt stop watching from like the age of 20, was ben arfa and he ended up here. so maybe insigne will too lol

  • 146 RonVanDam // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:45 AM

    @T00ntime

Germán Pezzella plays for River Plate in Agentina. He embodies Collo at a tender age of 21. He’s fast, reads the game really well and is cool as a cucumber. I’ve seen him play a few times – will e a steal if we get him now. You tube him and you’ll be blown away

  • 148 Santon03 // Dec 13, 2012 at 4:40 AM

Need 2 CB, can’t go attack if midfield worries too much about def, the rest I don’t care if we were going to buy 30yr old forward or 16yr old. Sell Ba, Cisse will score a lot more.
MOST IMPORTANT IS TO GET A NEW MANAGER!!
Too much excuses from AP. Everything is AP’s fault, if things didn’t go his way on the field, it’s his job to make it right. If he can’t control his players, then who can? If his tactic wasn’t hoofball, then why he let it happened? We still have a chance to finish top 10, but with AP we will nolonger be in EPL. AP is in denial state, my christmas wish is a new manager, a non-english or Roberto Martinez or RDM.

  • 149 Santon03 // Dec 13, 2012 at 4:45 AM

or make Peter Beardsley as manager, I’m sured he can’t do much worse than AP, probably much better.

  • 150 Santon03 // Dec 13, 2012 at 4:46 AM

Beardsley was one of The Entertainers, I’m pretty sured that hoofball is not his tactic.

Excellent that some people are still having conversations aspiring to 7th or 8th! I wish. No, this is for real, but there is an advantage compared to last time. All people, experts, fans, me included, ‘knew’ that we were too good to go down; this time we don’t have that delusion, alarm bells have been rang everywhere and I think for Mike too.

So, what to do? Forget about all cups, play our 12 year olds in local cups, let Beardo deal with Europa (he might even win it!). AP only to focus on next game, analyse opposition, work on set plays (better late than never!), have Cisse pass the ball to Ba and vice versa all day. Transfers? ‘In Carr we trust’ to be handed 21 million for three ready game changers and forget the words ‘thrifty’ ‘financially sound’ and ‘on the cheap’ for the time being.

  • 158 Santon03 // Dec 13, 2012 at 7:07 AM

I was looking forward to watch NUFC play every week every game, now I’m affraid to watch.
Playing hoofball system using players 5’7-6’0 is quite insane. Eveytime the ball goes to Willo and Krul which is regularly, they hit it long. It’s just the same as giving the ball to the opponent and we will have constant pressures to our weak defense, our wingers are too deep inside our own half, it’s just like inviting their fb to come attacking, more pressures. Our midfields worked hard to win the ball, then Willo and Krull hit it long again and gave the ball away too cheaply, nowonder our players like Jonas, Cabaye, Tiote underperforming, it is because they rarely have the ball and they must have hate it when they worked so hard to win the ball and then it’s gone just like that. I don’t know about Willo, but I don’t think Krull hit it long all the time when he played for Dutch team. Game after game it is the same thing, no change at all.

  • 159 Santon03 // Dec 13, 2012 at 7:11 AM

We are just like a bunch of dwarves playing hoofball thinking we can jump 3-4 feet high all the time.

Morning lads, just like to say looking forward to a new bright vaersion of 442 against Man City at the weekend.

We could be in serious trouble against the Champions, serious trouble, our only hope is Ben10 and last year Clichy put him in his pocket.

We are doomed 3 nil City.

However will be getting behind the lads as normal, for all my whinging on here, when in the ground there is no supporter who backs the players more than me, i even give Simmo a clean slate every game, which i think is more than generous.

  • 166 Santon03 // Dec 13, 2012 at 8:00 AM

It’s just too depressing for me to watch my only English team playing awful football.
I wished “The Entertainers” were playing next City game.

    Santon,
“I was looking forward to watch NUFC play every week every game, now I’m afraid to watch”

I know what you mean! It’s more hope than expectation these days, sometimes dread. When that first goal goes in, all we can realistically expect, at best, is a draw…. Shame.

Anyway, still ‘anticipating’ next game. Because it’s backs to the wall, we may pull off a draw.

  • 168 Williamsonsuks // Dec 13, 2012 at 8:22 AM

Sorry guys but this blog is really depressing! Most of the comments just rip the whole team to shreds. If I played for the toon and read these comments I’d lose heart.
We have played better in last few games, just the results weren’t in our favour, and on our day are still capable of upsetting the bigger clubs. Injuries and not buying players are the reasons we are in this predicament. Get behind them HWTL

    Morning,

Sorry to continue this again today, but….

Jono….I have taken a look at our posts from last night and can only actually see one question from you.

“How can you say the fans have lost their bottle but that’s with complete respect.”

    I answered that.

Are you referring to another time? I can see you have an issue with me, which is not the end of my world, but for sh*ts and giggles, do let me know which two simple questions I haven’t answered as I would like to put this to bed at some point, as we’re probably better to avoid little snipes back and forth for the remainder of our days on here.

I’m not really sure how you want me to act Jono. You say I act like a 5 year old, yet you just seem to criticise me but not cite what in particular it is that you don’t approve of. It just comes across as you being a bit smug, which may just be in my interpretation.

So, if you would like to let me know what these two questions are I will do my best to answer them for you (with as little waffle as possible) otherwise, should we just ignore each other?

  • 171 cyprus // Dec 13, 2012 at 8:25 AM

  • 172 Rotonda heights // Dec 13, 2012 at 8:27 AM

I can’t help but admire Rodgers at liverpool.

Right away he made a statement of intent that he didn’t want Carroll and was going to play football from the off.

He’s weeding out all the over priced rubbish Dalglish brought in and is bringing in youngsters ie Sterling 17 and letting them play and express themselves without fear.

They’ll lose a few along the way but I like the direction they’re headed and I’m very envious. No negative digs at the kids, no playing for a draw every match, no hoofball, no closed training sessions, sounds great.

  • 173 cyprus // Dec 13, 2012 at 8:28 AM

finally someone managed to get under your skin, dude? :)

  • 174 Williamsonsuks // Dec 13, 2012 at 8:32 AM

He does suck tho! He should be on the park… as a groundsman. The whole of the premier league can see that! It’s when Tiote, Colo, Ba are getting it. Fair enough Ba’s gonna leave but he has served us well.

  • 175 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 13, 2012 at 8:33 AM

Cyprus….I guess somewhat, otherwise why would I respond? :)

I’m just not a fan of being called a hypocrite without any reasoning. Oh well, life goes on.

Rotonda….They are starting to take better shape now. I don’t expect them to achieve much this season tbh, but if they can bring in some decent players in January and the summer they will likely be a much stronger outfit next season.

Can’t say I like Brendan Rodgers though, drives me a little loopy, but that’s probably more of a personal thing than for footballing reasons.

  • 176 Rotonda heights // Dec 13, 2012 at 8:41 AM

I think that boat has already sailed . Still I’m sure their 50K a week will help them sleep at night.

I never understand why people going though a bad patch say they never read the papers etc. If they did, it might make them think and address their individual problems.

So just on the off chance some footballers can read and are hanging on our every word this is for them.

KRUL, WILLO and SIMMO Stop hoofing it and learn and practice to pass square and short. You are PL players.

BA & CISSE: You can only play together in a 433 with you out left BA. Put the team before yourself and 70k a week.

I could be here a while but if you’re reading this NUFC squad please inwardly digest and memorise for future.

    @ Rotonda heights

I completely agree. I’ll admit, I’ve watched few Liverpool games and they are starting to grow on me. They are becoming a very sound tactical team. As must as i hate them, i have to give BR kudos for the brilliant job he’s doing to restructure the team and giving them a Barcelona flavor

Watched them against West Ham, when they were 2-1 down, they still played smart football, players would pass the ball and run to find gaps (something we ought to start doing) . Once they equalized, they unleashed attack after attack until West Ham buckled.

They may not make the top 6 this season but they have made enough noise so far with a young squad that could threaten the summit next season.
