Newcastle Winger In Part Exchange For Loic Remy?

11:17 am, Thursday, December 13th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 237 Comments

We wonder if Newcastle will let any of our current crop of players leave in the January transfer window, and one reason for that is that we could use the money to bring new players through the door next month.

loic remy marseilles

Loic Remy – Marveaux used as bait?

And then there’s Demba Ba, and quite honestly it’s just a terrible situation for Newcastle to be in – that one of our top players and the top goalscorer with 10 goals in the Premier League can legitimately walk away from the team next month if some club offers £7M and triggers his release clause.

What’s wrong with that picture? :(

And the news this week is that Newcastle are thinking of maybe giving up on Sylvain Marveaux, and he could be shipped out to Marseilles in January, and maybe it’s a player plus cash exchange for their striker Loic Remy?

We have no inside information on this, but there have been repeated reports Newcastle are interested in Remy, and we have simply put two and two together – and hopefully arrived at four.

Sylvain has shown the best form of his career over the last month on Tyneside, but he is still behind players like Ben Arfa, Jonas Gutierrez and Gabby Obertan to get a starting position on one of the wings.

So it could be Newcastle are willing to let him go and since he arrived on a free transfer last year, Newcastle will make a profit on the deal

And maybe he will be offered in part exchange for Loic Remy, who Newcastle have been interested in since 2008, according to our archives.

It’s an interesting thought – at the very least.

What do you think?

marv has looked a decent player lately so would like to keep him, but wouldnt mind remy either…ermm

  • 2 Graeme // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:21 AM

Remy would be a great signing – even better if Ba & Marvey were still here in February!!!

  • 3 Transfer Sage // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:22 AM

If pardew is our manager for the long term might as well get rid if marvoux as he clearly doesn’t fancy him for whatever reason

  • 4 Rotonda heights // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:24 AM

Only plus point if ba goes is cisse would play in his right position centrally and I’m sure he’d hit the goal trail again. I’ve heard remy can play left in a front 3 but then so can marv given a chance

  • 5 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:28 AM

Is there anything evidence to back this up or is it just a case of 2+2 = 5 since the media have us interested in Remy and Pards doesn’t seem to fancy Marv?

  • 6 Shearer260 // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:28 AM

Ironic that even though he can’t get in front of gutierrez in the starting line up I bet if we offered them him instead of marveaux they wouldn’t be nearly as interested. He’s played well recently do I’d like to see him out on one wing with benny on the other and ba or cisse in the middle.

  • 7 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:28 AM

TS….Why is it clear that Pardew doesn’t fancy Marv? Because he played in the EL and not against Fulham?

Are we assuming last year the delayed start for Benny was because Pardew didn’t fancy him either?

i have said all a long with out Ba on the pitch cesse he will score the goals for us ,Ba likes to be the main man up front and goes in huff when he can,t play there or gets the lime light taken away from him

  • 10 check the toastie // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:35 AM

Pardew prefers players who have no surprises to their game, Raylor over BenArfa, Obertan over BenArfa, Jonas over Marv, Raylor over Santon, Shola over Marv, Lovenkrands over Ben Arfa, the list is endless, Simpson over Tavernier, Williamson over anybody else at the club.

    The man is a dope.

Nice article Ed, lets me get back on the abuse Parsnip bandwagon.

Yes. Pardew didn’t fany ben arfa at all so he never got a game. He changed his game to work harder for the defence before he fancied him and gave him his chance.

Marvoux has barely featured at all, even when he has been fit. Pardew really doesn’t seem to like him or trust him to do a job. He gave him a go away at everton, obviously struggled against pienaar and baines (who wouldn’t) and seems to have been punished for that.

TS….I see it as that he wants to get more out of players who he knows can produce better on a regular basis. Not just as simple as punishment, maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t see him as being that petty.

Jesper… I know the feeling mate i foolishly agreed to go christmas shopping with my lass without checking the football schedule. Argh damn why did we have to buck the trend and play on a saturday :(

Can i blame that on pards as well? Actually i am anyway PARDEW OUT!

  • 20 Ian Toon // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:47 AM

Jesper – good morning . Chelsea. Have played 4-2-3-1 in their last 5 games. I did not look any further back. We play man City @ 12.45 on Saturday.
From last evening. Your claim that our defence is better this season than last! Palpably this is not the case. Either statistically or from media analysis or more importantly my judgment. That is why I have been banging on about defensive restructuring for months- LOL
I found myself doing a Nick Clegg and hence the i agree with JFA.
Maybe I have misinterpreted your view. See ya.

  • 23 Transfer Sage // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:50 AM

    Ibiza

I don’t see it as a petty act from pardew.

I see it more of that’s not what player he wants…or he only has room for a limited number of creative players. I think he is overly cautios and likes to go for more defensive options like jonas.

  • 24 wynsleap // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:52 AM

Ideally, with the small size of our squad, we shouldn’t be selling anybody but if we HAD to it should be someone who could bring a decent price and then we could bring in two or three players with the fee coming in (plus whatever mythical amount our owner might invest).
Unfortunately after the Carroll experience we know that selling a top player for a high amount doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to be spent on decent replacements.
If we could get these reported large sums for Cabaye and/or Tiote I’d be quite prepared to say goodbye to them as I think they could easily be replaced by cheaper and equally effective players.
Whatever happens Ashley HAS to invest in the team this January or the future looks bleak.
But I’m not holding my breath that’s for sure.

  • 25 Transfer Sage // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:54 AM

    Ian

I would disagree on defence. I think looking at what we have it is no worse on paper…certainly not much better as the only addition would be anita as a make shift full back so nothing better about i really.

But I do agree we need to totally restructure the defence. 2CBs and full back.

Douglas, yanga-Mbiwa and Debuchy for me.

  • 26 Ian Toon // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:55 AM

Transfer- Pardew also rightly eased HBA back in after an injury which could have been more of a mental than physical problem. I regularly read of Pardew not having confidence in him etc. Undoubtedly he wanted to repackage his work ethic as well. Pardew was blamed by many when he should have been praised for good management. There is a body of posters whom want to find fault- I am not implying that you are.
    Have a good day.

  • 27 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:58 AM

    Ian…thanks mate!

…be carefull with statistics mate (remember what they said about Simmo and Willo ;)) No, you did not misunderstand me regarding my comment about our defense being better this year compared to last. Since it is the same defense with the addition of Anita and the fact both Santon (who is a regular now) and Fergy are better players I think it is fair to say we are in a better plave this season.

Form is our problem this season so you cannot really use statistics cause that’s what they are looking at. Remember I have said nothing about us not needing a defensive restructure or that we don’t need a need CB or RB for that matter. All I have said is we are not where we are because of lack of transfer activity (didn’t say it might not have made a difference), but the team we have should be able to do alot better.

…maybe you are confusing what I am saying now that you’re mentioning it :D

  • 28 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:58 AM

TS….I agree with that to some extent, but I think thats a temporary thing (being defensive). I feel that once we have the correct players in and firing, he will loosen the style and use more flair players. When we’re looking vulnerable he goes defensive instead of attacking, that is clear for all to see, so I hope it doesn’t come across as that is what I’m arguing, more the idea Pardew doesn’t want or like those type of players, it’s as you say, he doesn’t feel he can afford to lose graft for creativity….at this point.

  • 29 jonobbad // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:58 AM

You have put 2 and 2 together and came up with 68.
No basis for saying marv is being swapped.
Ed you should get a job at the sun. You would fit right in.

  • 30 Ian Toon // Dec 13, 2012 at 11:59 AM

Transfer— Pardew’s cautious approach stems from a lack of confidence in the defence. Hence his employment of Jonas to attempt to stem the leaking. What can he do!

  • 31 Graeme // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:00 PM

TS – its getting to the point where it seems Pardeaux is frightened of his own shadow!! Football is always a game of risks – you try and balance them; you can’t eliminate them completely. If that’s his objective, he should take up fishing!!

I hope he can swim – just in case!!

Ibizatoon – Back by popular demand

YOUR 100% right,, pardew did not fancy HBA, we as fans were screaming for him to play, but he made lots of excuses why he shouldnt /couldnt play,

even if HBA never helped the defence last year, he gave a lot more to the team than obertan ever did,

also , if you watch obertan, he does less covering than HBA,

also (lol.) if had any sense, he would be deopping one of the fromt 2 (id drop BA for contract reasons) HBA SHOULD be a proper no 10, more central to the action, he is not messi, but he is our messi, our best player,,

marv seems very good on both wings, and given that the team needs a good shake up, he should be given a chance, after all, i think we could all pull at least 4 players out of that team that dont deserve to be in it right now,

i like little ferg, he is our new K giliespie, nippy and quite good a crossing, (and can only get better) but marv is a better all round player,, and even sammy and ferg seem ahead of marv,, suggest pardew dont fancy him

let me finish by saying pardew is a muppet and does not deserve to be the manager of our great club, he has the best squad he has ever had, and if he stays i only see our best players leaving,

  • 34 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:01 PM

Jesper…Do you think Fergy is a better defender this year? Is that just because he’s older? I haven’t seen any signs of him being so this season.

Anita is an improvement in defense, but he’s also said he didn’t want to come in as a defender, so how much has he really improved it?

  • 35 Transfer Sage // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:01 PM

    Ian

I think it’s one of them ones where there isn’t a right answer really.

I dont think anyone can deny that what Pardew did with ben arfa was great for him. He has been one of our top players since he got eased into the team.

It is impossible to say whether throwing him in a month earlier or just having him on from the start would have been better or worse. It’s something we don’t know so I think there is no point in debating it really. Pardew did well for the long term…would an exra month of ben arfa back then even made much difference? I’m not sure it would have.

I thin marvoux is a different case though. He is barely getting any game time and the players currently starting aren’t performing so maybe he should get a run out to try something different.

Ben Arfa was trying to get into a winning/successful team so having patience was more understandable.

you make about as much sense as a chocolate fire gaurd,,

last year, take away the few games we got hammered , it was quite strong, same players, same approach as last year,, not the same results

you need to wake up,, but i guess youonly play computer football,, hence your lack of knowladge in real football,
i dout you have ever played anything other than playground football, or bags at school

  • 37 Transfer Sage // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:07 PM

    Ibiza/Ian

I accept our defense is shaky with willo and simmo being unable to play it out from the back well too.

But for me pardew has two options…go more defensive to cover there mistakes. This invites more pressure as we have less of the ball, less time pinning the opposition back so more of them can get forward more often. This just heaps more pressure on the defence. And as it is what we are doing could be argued it isn’t working, look at our results and performances.

The second option is to get more creative players on the pitch, marv, benny, anita, cabaye (when fit) and go with only 1 striker so we can hopefull keep possession better in the midfield and if we have the ball our opponents can’t attack. Players like willo and simmo need help too…they are useless with the ball at their feet and wont bring it out so the responsibility falls on colo and the deeer midfielders to drop closer to them to collect it and given them 1 or 2 decent/easy options for a pass.

I’m not suggesting we go all out attack and forget the defence but if we can’t defend basing our game on defense surely doesn’t work (only 17 points suggests it doesn’t).

Surely it is now worth trying something new to see if things get better?

  • 38 catchy in norway // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:09 PM

    Transfer Sage

your right, HBA was trying to get into a winning team, a winning team that had a very weak right side, i dont go to the games, but even the fans at the games could see it wasnt working, obertan, got about 6 games more than he should have, and if he did not get injured we would still be waiting for HBA now,

he took his chance and made it impossible for pardew to go back,

  • 39 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:09 PM

catchy…I didn’t say that. I asked a question to TS, it is not my view that Pardew didn’t fancy HBA, but that he fancied getting the better HBA – I think he did, whether it would have been the case a month earlier would be pure speculation (as TS has said above) so hard to know for sure.

I agree on dropping one of the ST’s, not the Ba bit, we signed a contract with him and knew what we were doing. Now that we’ve decided his knee isn’t so bad we want a deal that suits us better, but is that automatically fair? He has every right to hold out or play out his current contract without being punished. Either way, only one should be playing as an out and out ST and Cisse is ineffective it seems playing anywhere else.

Marv does seem good and I expect him to get more and more game time and go from strength to strength. Fantastic stuff.

Fergie looks a promising LW, but not at LB for me (I get the feeling you agree), but he’s not a starter yet.

The way Marv is being handled may suggest he is out of favour, but it is also possible that Pardew is easing him in to get the best out of him – you or I don’t know and shouldn’t claim to, it’s only an opinion.

  • 40 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:12 PM

Ibiza…I definitely think he’s a better player this season. Age is a part of it since he is more mature in his game and have more ballast from first team appearences and International games – this and the fact he’s stay fit this season which is very important for a young kid if he’s to evolve as a player.

Until or resent drop of form he was one of the players we were all calling for to start a game – he looked alive and hungry. I have said before that alot of our youngsters shoud have been out on loan this season, but Pards kept then on and for some reason he thinks it is a good idea to throw 6-7 kids into our starting 11 at times (this is what I think is part of form drop). Does anyone remember what happened to Jon Dahl Tomasson when he came here and suddenly all our forwads got inured – even Shearer, who Tomasson was to lean on and learn from. Tomasson choked and the rest is history.

…that was a side story :D I don’t know if it makes any sense (I apparently have trouble making sense these days) lol

  • 41 Transfer Sage // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:13 PM

    catchy

I wasn’t keen at all on obertan last year, I don’t think he showed anything like the fight/desire it takes to be a prem league player. If he has talent, which from clips of him as yougnster show, he for whatever reason seems unable to show it in nufc colours or man utd for that matter.

I still think Pardew can’t be slated for sticking with a winning team. Obertan may have been a weak link but even with a weak link that team got results. Ben arfa, for all he is much more talented, could have improved the right side but it might have upset the balance.

So although I would have liked him in sooner, I do understand Pardew’s decision as if it goes wrong it’s all on his head.

  • 42 HullMag6 // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:13 PM

    Playing catch up.

Yes to this deal if true, sell Tiote and get sissoko plus invest in 3 cbs. Move collo to dm and also sell Willo, release Ba buy another striker and winger.

    That’s my thoughts anyway.

  • 43 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:13 PM

TS…..Absolutely. There are two forms of defense, doubling up or going on the attack. Last year the former worked quite well for us, so I can understand where the idea to continue that has come from and that at first it would have been seen as bad form or such. This many games on though, it’s clear something needs to be mixed up.

  • 44 Transfer Sage // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:15 PM

I get what you mean with marv….I just think he is barely getting anytime so at this rate we could be waiting 2 years before we see him as regular starter haha.

I would just like him to get more than 10 mins at the end of games.

  • 45 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:16 PM

Ibiza…about Anita, I think you need to take that one up with Pardew ;) (he is there to be used if needed just like Ba is there to be used on the left if needed)

…that is not my department (all I said is that I think we are better off this season – what ever Pardew deceides to do is another story)

  • 46 Transfer Sage // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:18 PM

    Ibiza

yeh exactly….I dont like defensive football but pardews job is to win not entertain.

If he was winning 1-0 every week like last year I could understand sticking with it. But seeing as we are losing, and not evening looking like winning, we really do need to change it up.

  • 47 Special K // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:21 PM

Last year we went and signed Cisse for £10m when none of us saw that coming, a similar investment this year would really solidify this team and possibly set us up for a European run.

    ——————Krul————-
    Debuchy—Collo—Saylor—-Santon
    ——————Tiote————
    ————Diame—-Cabaye——
    -HBA———-Cisse———-Ba

That would cost us no more than the £10m we put out last January and even we managed to get Remy for £7m + Marveaux and left Diame you could drop HBA deeper and put Remy to the right of the 433, wouldnt cost more than £13m

How realistic is this? Not as far fetched as you’d think, Ashley and Llambias may be cheap, but they’re not stupid. If Pardew is in their ear all the time they’ll understand that our first XI is just about good enough but can’t cope with injuries & suspensions.

  • 48 Pardews Perfect Battleplan // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:21 PM

Fergie has for the past 2 seasons been promising and able to put in a beautiful ball, nothing has changed imo. For me, that is the reality.

TS…2 years? God I hope not :) I really do feel we’ll start to see more from him, he clearly has the determination to do well.

Some people still dont see what Ashley is all about after all that he has done.
1)He bought this club to make a quick profit but was stiched up by Hall & Shepherd
2)He has been forced to keep this club until he can recoup his money and then he will sell if he can
3)It has been stated many times that there will be no capital outlay and as you can see he has cleared the decks of most the high earners, will only purchase 11 “purples”and the rest of the squad will be cheap & young who they hope will develop.
4)Will wait until the last minute in January in the hope that Cabaye and Taylor will be close to returning(like 2 new signings)before allowing Pardue to purchase a new player(probably for the leaving Ba)

We can all see that we are deep in the mire but can Ashley?

  • 52 Special K // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:26 PM

On another point, I’m not worried about Anita at all. You can see he has the talent, we’ve seen his better performances in Europe when he’s had more time on the ball and the play isn’t so frantic. Remember Santon was all over the place for the first 6 months and it was only around February he began to nail down that LB position, now he’s our most consistent performer

Catchy – Spread the love this Christmas. Mums in the North East often used to put a picture of Peter Beardsley around the fire place to keep their kids away. But he was one player. I don’t agree with your point of view but on a personal basis I bear you no malice. I do hope you will make a donation to a charity of my choosing when I am proven right! I was kidding on the last sentence as I don’t want you to think I am going soft. Enjoy what ever your doing.

Ibiza…you cannot make these parallels. I said I thought Fergy was a better player because he has matured (he’s playing first team matches and playing International)

…neither Xisco nor Ranger has been doing this (apart from Rangers last two appearances)

Fair enough you disagree – I am not trying to convince you just stating why I stand by my conviction!

Personally I think this discussion looses its purpose when form is used as an indication of our team being worse than last season…we have droped in form, which is something entirely different. Last night I said I thought the topic got sidetracked and I am beginning to feel like that again (maybe that’s just me)

  • 56 Transfer Sage // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:33 PM

    Hotdog

We are shipping goals but we really arn’t helping ourselves.

We got with only 4 in midfield most games….two of them, jonas and tiote give the ball away a lot.

We have two up top who we kick long too when they rarely win it.

I think we need 5 in midfield with one striker Ba or cisse, not bothered which.

If we can crowd the midfield we give all our players more options, makes it easier for simmo and willo to find a simple pass into midfield if we have 3 central midfielders playing, more bodies to pass to.

And if we could keep the ball we would spend less time defending which in theory means less times we can make mistakes at the back

  • 57 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:37 PM

Jesper…I thought we were discussing whether Fergie was a better player this year from last? Yes he’s getting some first team and International games, but he was last year too.

TS – Agree with all of that mate but the crux of the matter is this. It is a given that the oppositon are going to have chances during a game. Now good defending and goalkeeping is what sets good teams apart that can “weather the storm”. The oppositon at the moment know that they have got a very good chance of scoring against us and fancy their chances. Build from the back and the rest will fall into place, or should ;-)

I agree you need a solid defence. Whether that’s archived through two banks of 4 playing deep or from 3 at the back and pressing the ball or as barca seem to go any have 80% possession and one one genuine defender in the pitch at times.

I think the next signings we make have to be a CB and FB really. That’s key before anything else.

I Just think our current approach to games invites pressure into what is a weakish defence. If we kept the ball and made our defence have to only deal with 5 chances not 10 surely that would help.

Also so might actually score a few goals.

I think we will be lucky to get 1 signing and that will be to replace BA if he does go. I just don’t see the board splashing out on 2 or 3 top players. Remember our board like to pay for wages upfront so three players worth say 15 million (cheap) and a further 10 million for wages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not going to happen with this board im afraid! Ibiza…no it just that it seem like e we are all trying to avoid the obvious by making it look like our team is worse off compared to last season (I am talking about player material and not form here). It is the excuses again and us trying to find fault with everything.

…maybe it would be easier to list those players we think have dome well this season; maybe even lit those who we think have really droped in form compared to last season. Is Fergy playing worse than last season? taking into account that the whole team probably are. The games I remember where Fergy has been a disappointment is in games where we have played too many youngsters and on the LW.

Lack of form, from a whole team, and not just a few individuals usually indicates something is wrong with the way we approach the game and set up our tactics.

But we were talking about whether our defense was better off or worse off this season and this is where I think we got sidetracked, ’cause suddenly we were talking Fergy and form and we were talking Anita and the fact he preferes to play in MF. Ian even mentioned statistics as counter argument. So what are we saying here cause I am a bit lost!

Afternoon Toonies …. Would love Pards and the powers above to do some wheeling and dealing come Jan to freshen things up. If we sell one purple be it Demba Or Tiote and clear out the deadwood Simmo and bench Williamson as not sure we would have too many buyers and add Remy (marv p/e) Diame debeuchy Douglas I would be happy. Even more so if Sissoko came for a minimal free but not sure Pards has the balls to do so many deals or if the powers above would allow but with about a total nett spend of around 8 million I think this would be some great business and reenergise our flagging season and get our fans something to smile about !

Not sure if Marv is simy just getting the HBA treatment, he may yet cme in for gutierrez, however (jonnobad try and keep up with it this time) he cannot be made to switch with santon the way jonas is asked to. That’s probably why he doesn’t start. I am not Santon bashing, he is a terrific find, but if you think he has enough experience and is the finished article, then its not me who is smoking stuff.

  • 76 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:58 PM

Jesper….I think we may be lost together on this one :)

As for players who I think have done really well this season.

    Anita and Santon.

Others have had good and bad games, but those two are standout for me. Ba with his goals, but there are frustrations there which balance it out a bit.

I think people are trying to answer things as honestly as possible, but it is being perceived as avoiding the question or sidetracking the issue. So back to issue, is our defense better without considering form.

Colo – In theory, the same player.
    STaylor – The same…injured :)
    Willo – The same
    Perch – The same
    Simmo – The same
RTaylor – The same, out injured.
    Santon – Improved
    Fergie – The same
    Tav – The same
Anita – Not really a RB, but can fill in and well – Improvement.

Think that’s all of them, so yes, in theory stronger. But that for me is all it is, theory. I get the feeling I have indeed missed your point with this :)

TS….Far prefer him on the LW, doesn’t carry himself well at LB for me, but is still young.

  • 77 Transfer Sage // Dec 13, 2012 at 12:59 PM

simpson is getting forward a bit more.

he seems to still fail to overlap properly (basic fullback duty)

he can’t put in a decent cross either

but then again it was hard for him to get any worse attacking haha

  • 78 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 13, 2012 at 1:00 PM

Ian…this was my answer to your question last night ;)

‘…I read it and I agree!

But for me that has nothing to do with transfer activity mate (that is in the department of tactics)

…remember football is not only about how other teams perceive us, but also about how we perceive them – they have weaknesses as well we can exployed. Most teams outside the top six are no better than us and don’t really have better players to choose from

TS said it very well earlier what I meant

  • 79 Pardews Perfect Battleplan // Dec 13, 2012 at 1:02 PM

  • 88 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 13, 2012 at 1:15 PM

Ibiza…I think you are getting coser to my point and your last answer sort of shows where I am going with this.

…you may say in theory, but when you take form out of the equation theory is all you have. I would like to add, I agree with your list, but find Saylor a improvement since we have in back in februar and last season he only played a handfull of games. Our defense is an improvement no matter how we twist and turn it (Anita by the way is a very good LB; played there alot for Ajax)

Ian keeps asking me about us being found out and I am not sure what to answer him, cause I agree we have been found out – but is that because we didn’t buy enough players or is it because Pardew likes to use the same players and tactic to some extend. Maybe it is a little bit of both, but a start could be moving Santon to the right and play either Fergy or Anita on the left. He could move Ba to left in a 4-3-3 or he could keep Ba next to Cissé and play a diamond MF with either Benny/Cabs as a ACM and Tiote as a CM or he could play Cabs as an Deeplying Playmaker.

Non of this is really happening even though we have those options. Why don’t we start with what we have instead off moning about what doesn’t have. That was all I meant :D

I know some don’t agree and for some reason some want the blame to be directed a certain place because it is more convenient; we all have an opinion on the matter and of course we won’t all agree. I don’t mind that, but I just feel I am either being misquoted or misunderstood about this matter!

If the muppets holding the purse strings thought we could get through until Jan with those defenders then well……i cant put it into words. Jesper…Together we can move mountains ;)

No disrespect, but i think you’re taking peoples point to mean they think it’s only a question of incoming players. There may be some examples of that, but I don’t think the majority are saying that’s the only issue. There are many and without diving deeply in to the or putting them in any order, here is where I think the problems are:

    – New players. From motivating old players to continue to improve to giving Pardew more options and more to the point giving him the players already highlighted that we needed.

    – Bad form. Tricky topic and could have been caused by many things – but it is apparent and is causing us issues.

    – Being found out. Pardew needs to find a way to keep others guessing, using the squad he has.

    – Tactics. Sometimes bizarre and sometimes just a mistake. It happens, but Pardew will have to learn.

    – Injuries. Happens all the time, so not an out and out reason, but still a factor (but one we just have to get on with).

People are saying we should be top 10 considering what we had last year, the lack of incoming and then the extra games to play this season. I think that is fair. People seem more fixated on relegation when in reality we’re as likely to hit 10th as we are the bottom three imo. We’re short at the minute, but top 10 is far from over (the upcoming games do make it hard to see the silver lining though, I do understand. I don’t expect to be top 10 by January, but after that I do expect us to pick up again.

For me, the biggest problem this season is fight from the players. I know we played against a 10 men Wigan, but we did press them, even in the first 10 minutes. That is what has been missing for me and why we’re falling so short. We’ve stopped being a hard, well drilled team.

Reasons for that? Take your pick, but it’s likely a combination of reasons, some of which I mentioned above.

  • 99 hotdog // Dec 13, 2012 at 1:31 PM

Indian – Whether Pards has his fav’s im not sure. Ibizatoon – Back by popular demand

firstly,, Ba,, i think he thinks he is undroppable , and you are right,, he can hold out for a better deal, but holding a gun at our heads with this clause is wrong, we were the best choice for him when he signed, maybe he should honner the contract he has first, his behavior is out of order,

there is not one piece of everdence you or i can provide to say HBA is a better or worse player for being made to wait for his chance, for me, there is nothing pardew can teach him to make him a better player, by making him more defensive takes away something he has up front attacking, ppl like beardo, could give him pointers, but pardew is out of his depth with good players

i carnt see one player of our good players has improved since they have joined up with pardew IMO they have gone backwards

players like perch have improved, i have seen nothing from obertan to sugest he has learned anything under pardew, still just a spinter, the kid hides in games when he plays, has no fight in him at all

little ferg, yes i see him as a winger, i also see santon as a winger, but santon is about the same age and looked a bit dodgy last year, but since he has been made a first team regular, he has been our best player,, i think if ferg had that chance, he would be a first team regular, he is a great outlet, whos crossing is te best at our club and should only get better,

    jesper 71

    you are correct,

14 games in, the whole team is out of form,,
that is very strange, our whole squad looks so poor, this is lack of direction from the leaders or leaders, but from a team point its just the leader, the 2 above pardew do not set the training or match day team or tactics,

and its only gona get worse,

    wining is a habbit

    and

    losing is a habbit,

he is gona use tha man c are a great team, quality in every position as an excuse on sat,

i remember our first match against man c when we came up,, our team plaed them off the park, great football, we lost, but i was proud of what CH was doing,, right now im ashamed of pardew,

I never said I didn’t think transfers could have had an impact (that would just be speculation anyway), but I thought we should be able to reach you goal these season with what se got. • 115 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 13, 2012 at 1:47 PM

    Catchy….

On Ba, can you not see what you’re saying there? On one hand he should honour the current contract on the other he’s holding a gun to our head on a new contract? Which is it?

If we want the clause, that we were happy to include, removed, why shouldn’t he want better terms? He might be greedy with his demands, I don’t know, but if we don’t want to pay what he wants without the clause, then just revert back to the current situation. I do feel some are making him out as some bad guy in this, when really he’s just as guilty as the club, no?

On Benny, should he be more defensive? Point taken, but he is also now more of a team player and actually aware of what is going on. Maybe it’s been taken to the extreme, he shouldn’t be in our own box really, but he should put in a shift, as I’m sure Beardsley used to. I’m not saying make him a defender, that would stifle him, but all should be team players to some extent and I feel that he is now. HBA has even said the same himself and I believe he has credited Pardew as being part of the reason, why can’t you?

Are we absolutely sure that a bid of £7m would entitle Ba to walk away or is that a bid must be acceptable to Newcaste United – eg £7m a starting bid? I’m thinking her about our bid of £1m which was supposed to trigger Neil Taylor’s release clause from Swansea.

Didn’t Swansea insist that £1m was the minimum bid to be considered and that it was unacceptable to them. Taylor stayed at Swansea when they dug in on it.

Jesper…People will always disagree, it’s discussing issues where we benefit. I am always happy to discuss things with you, as that is exactly what you do…discuss.

I know exactly what you’re saying. People do make outlandish comments that sound so final and one dimensional, when usually there is more to it (other factors and such). I think that is normally just an oversight though and to avoid having to write lengthy posts – looks who’s talking!

TS….Cheers. It is a 2 way street and both sides need to compromise. Undecided on the Ba playing on the left issue. He is a player who should be played where he’s told, but we also criticise pardew for playing people out of position and Ba is a ST, so what is fair and right? I don’t think he should play every game on the left, but he should be willing to muck in when needed…for the better good of the team.

Play to our strengths and impose ourselvs on the opposition, not worry about them all the time. That’s what he could do. Allardyce was just the same. Would rather not lose than actually try to win. Like a Geoff Boycott of football.

It might be unfair on him and in fairness this issue should have been addressed in the summer.

We knew we played best in 433…if Ba wont play left and pardew doesn’t feel he has anyone else to play there those morons above him should have banged their heads together and signed somebody for that role.

Jesper,, why are you assuming because I have a contrary opinion that I am attacking you personally?
I make the point regarding injuries simply because if we had made signing in the Summer injuries would have been less of a problem.
We both have different theories as to where we are at present, what has went wrong, and what are the reasons.
But they are both just theories, neither provable.

Okay then….I don’t think Jesper is saying that transfers have no part in the way this season is going, but it’s not the main or one and only reason. I think his comments are as simple as that. With the squad we have we should be doing better than we are, but that isn’t to say we should be doing as well as last year either. Middle ground :)

  • 146 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 13, 2012 at 2:26 PM

As I always say I’m never guaranteeing anything.

It’s just internal club rumours as well as them piecing together bits and bobs.

Ashley is a fan of pardew, as can be seen with 8 year deal, and he will back him apparently. not silly amounts but enough to bring in 3-4 they say.

Also ashley is panicking a bit…he knows if we go down this year we lose the extra 20mil a season in tv money and he is well aware our top players will all want to leave so bouncing back will not be likely.

  • 156 Graeme // Dec 13, 2012 at 2:49 PM

PPB – there were story’s when we signed him, that because of the dodgy knee, Ba was on a lower basic but with bonuses for goals and games to increase his earnings by playing. It was also mentioned that we couldn’t insure his knee so he would get no (or little) compensation if his knee did let go.

His advisers agreed, but insisted on his release clause so that once he proved his knee was ok by playing, he could move, to get the salary etc he was worth.

That’s the release clause causing NUFC the problems now!! He has proved his knee is ok; he wants to stay, but wants a realistic rate for doing so – NUFC do not want to pay him as much as he is probably worth!!

    interesting fact from last season

Pardew guided a team over 2011-12 that was hugely economical in front of goal. They had a shots-per-game average similar to that of the relegation-threatened teams, and had the second worst percentage for possession in the opponent’s half, but still maintained a good scoring record.

Yeh..apparently in the relegation season Ashley was fuming he would see Martins waste chances to set up goals just get himself an extra 5k that week.

I think Ba was more on a basic wage plus games bonus.

  • 160 bettyswallocks // Dec 13, 2012 at 2:52 PM

Pardew has recently announced that Mondays team was his best team with what he has available and that he thought it was a good team that played well.

We really only have Cabaye and maybe Taylor that can improve the quality on the pitch.

This means that he s now relying on the defense tightening up or a bit more luck in front of goal to improve the results or of course buying new players in Jan.

I cant help but fantasise how our current players would perform under Brendan Rodgers or a similar coach with all the players passing and looking to move quickly into space to receive a pass.

We have good players and two fantastic strikers.

How many would Cisse have scored at Liverpool.

Liverpool are playing attractive modern football with a consistent method. All the players look happy and like they know what theyre supposed to be doing , they are scoring goals, winning games , doing better than us and all without a recognised centre forward.

We look clueless in comparison and most of our players would match up in terms of ability.

Please Ashley get Pardew some help or sack him.

TS, agreed, he isn’t our employee!! I would imagine Ba knows what he could expect to get at other teams, given the goals he has scored. He knows NUFC are not paying him his perceived value and is probably going to try and get more than they are offering.

It becomes a case of how much being happy at SJP is worth to him? I doubt he will stay for 50% of what he could get elsewhere, but he may be tempted to accept 80% – its up to the Illustrious Owner and Derek the Dork to try and sort a deal out!!!

There is nothing at all we as fans can do, other than let Ba know we want him to stay – if we do!!

Get 1 right back, centre back and a striker. That give us a good squad so:

    RB (Debuchy) Simpson
CB Coloccini (Douglas) S.Taylor Williamson Perch
    LB Santon R.Taylor*
    RM Ben Arfa Obertan

“(City) can call on five, six or seven top, top, international flair players and we probably have three, so we are on a knife edge when they are fit and when they are not fit,” Pardew said

    and who’s fault is this?

It’s a problem with only ten purples or is it eleven! No competition for places, no easy way to rest a purple because they are always on demand for every prem game and when our experienced back ups like Raylor and Perch are injured it’s a case of throwing some development squad player into the team and hope for the best or so it seems.

We’ve been very unlucky this season especially with injuries but the vast majority now seem to realise what a poor summer transfer window we had and it seems to have effected our purples ( I hate this expression, thanks Llambias! ) too.

Hatem out isn’t going to help and a hamstring could mean missing more than one game, hopefully Obertan’s ready….. can’t believe I said that ……….

Going to be a difficult month but still hope for a fighting performance Saturday.

That would be a hell of a team. To not have to go in to matches fearing for willo and simmo and that even in pardew’s world the ball would stay on the deck as the players would just ignore him if he told them to still hoof it.

  • 198 Rotonda heights // Dec 13, 2012 at 4:42 PM

A link striker like berbatov would have been great but at 33 only a short term solution. Not too may of the bergkamp / sheringham types around any more sadly.

So many people on here are just interested in results only.
Even last season when the results were good the football was not entertaining.

The point I and many others are trying to make is that the style of play under Pardew is not nice to watch.

We want to drool and be proud of our team.
Going back to L iverpool even though Rodgers says it will take time to change things to modern ways they look more like winning something with that system already than they have for years.

We have to emulate the modern approach.

Just a thought but last season when we played citeh, as soon as De Jong came on Benny’s head went down and was taken off. Maybe he still has nightmares about that beast snapping his leg. Wouldn’t actually blame him for showing a bit of fear. He’s only human.

  • 201 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 13, 2012 at 4:53 PM

If we only sign one player, I think we’ll go down. We’ll get beat by QPR.

  • 202 Beattie25 // Dec 13, 2012 at 4:57 PM

Does anyone else think the remit has changed to nothing but guarenteeing Premiership survival.

I think Ashley has sensed a great business opportunity here.

Have a poor season and pin the blame on under performing players who he can then sell without so much antagonism coming from the fans.

If we sold Tiote in the Summer there would’ve been hell on, now only a few of us would be outraged.

I can’t see anything good coming of our pradiciment. Time and time again the 3 stooges continue to shpe their neglect of all things football.

Newcastle as a city is filled with (for the majority) people who get on with things, struggle through the hard times and blame nobody but themselves at a time of crisis knowing it is only them who can get themselves out of trouble.

The people, like the club of old, have a passion for winning with style and losing with grace and being a man of similar charachter, I feel as if I was drawn to the club for this reason.

Now our club is a quivering wreck and the mouthpiece wants to blame every factor other than accept the truth, we are shit because the people in charge are the wrong people for the club.

If the fans, players, management and owners are not united then we cannot be called a club.

Pardew is the wrong man, not just for his tactical niaevity, but for the person that he is and the persona he brings. He is supposed to be a reflection of all members of Newcastle United and I for one do not want to be connected with him, Ashley or Llambias. They are all wrong for this club.

You could say that me blaming them is hardly a charactheristic of a true Newcastle fan but to be honest can any of us look in a mirror and say that in the years since Sir Bobby was sacked we have been the same type of fans we once were.

We need the good times back on Tyneside, we need the right people to take the club forward. No 5 year plans, 8 year contracts and £3 million negt spends.

We need an owner who loves football whether he can spend billions or not, a managing director who can change the opinon of Newcastle United from being sleazy bargain bin rooters to a friendly, professional and quality footballing force in the transfer market and we also need a manager who doesnt blame everthing on how haard life is, we need a man who has grace and humilty and gets on with things.

Will it happen, not whilst we are all so divided, pointing fingers at each other and everyone else rather than uniting under the black and white flag and starting a movement to become great once again.

I am not proud of my club anymore, and I am not proud of the people that support the club and to be honest, after reading some of my previous posts I am not proud of myself. Can anyone say that they are proud of what we have become?

Seriouisly though, I actually thought your post was a good read, and I am finding as the days wear on, the silence from the crew in charge, and the increasingly helpless – looking feel to Pardew that I am warming to a more negative view of the way a gamble on things miraculously not going wrong after the non-event summer window is being left to lie fallow in case a miraculous recovery sprouts forth. I am going on record to say that if the January window comes and goes without a meaningful signing, and/or a sparkling return to form and a silvery – looking cup in the tiny cabinet in the NUFC broom cupboard, I will be packing everything in boxes and leaving Optimism Valley.

I was only renting the ace anyway.

  • 210 Ian Toon // Dec 13, 2012 at 5:36 PM

Rotonda—- I have repeatedly said that Pardew is too cautious. I am not blind to his faults. He does of course know the strengths and weaknesses of his squad seeing them training. What Geoff Boycott doesn’t know about cricket isn’t worth knowing . Although you were probably thinking of his playing days. The players you mention in the formation you outline could well happen once we secure the players he wanted last summer. Again I am on the record, since last summer of Pardew seeking to play 4-2-3-1 or variations thereof. It is always wise to improve the squad from a position of strength rather than when we are battling in the lower reaches. Out of loyalty to his boss Pardew sang a very different tune in September to the tune in May. He was let down. On the current playing side we need to improve the level of performance of our better players. Certainly i am looking to Tiote to resume his role of midfield enforcer and the perfect platform could well be against Man City. If we play at our maximum and tighten up defensively and start converting chances I can see us winning 2-1. Also Sports Direct half year sales are up 25% to £ 125 million. Not directly related but I can see a strengthening defensively but also in midfield and at ST. Best news of the day though has to be Cabaye returning in mid January. For me he is the barometer of our fortunes. I don’t believe the mantra of under promise and over deliver. Despite what you might think I do give due consideration to your opinions and thoughts. At the same time you could be wrong and the outcome could be very different from what you envisage.
    1) Pardew given time could be the manager to build the club from the grass roots to a position of high standing in the PL on a consistent basis.
    2) Players bought for the future could in fact deliver such as Bigirimana, Abeid and Good. Along with home grown Campbell.
    3) Purchases in January could result in an immediate strengthening of our starting team resulting in a marked climbing of the league to a top half position.
    4) Free from Europa participation next season and with a squad with real depth we could be competing with the better teams for a CL place.
I prefer to take a progressive view which given a fair wind is not wholly unrealistic. Whereas yours of sacking Pardew would just cause more turmoil and a lack of stability. We would just be back on the merry go round. It’s early days in the 5 year plan where we over performed last season and to date this season are under performing.
As fans we need to keep the faith and support the team.

    Hotdog
Tbf i don’t think the whole ba situation is purely down to him like and dont think its as easy as telling him to lose the clause or go
The club will no doubt have a clause in place against his knee and obviously have no intrest in removing it to protect themselves so i don’t think you can blame demba for having his own contigency plan in place
As rotonda said early demba signed on a relatively low wage and in all honesty has been playing well above that since signing, he may come across as disloyal with this contract buisness but nobody knows the details off the contract offered to him he might be getting put through the ringer by the club there’s just no way of knowing

    Geordie157
Think remy has played alot of football LW and CF think he’d be the better option than doumbia not nessiceraliy the better player but we can’t fit 2 too cf’s into the team as it is let alone 3! Well kets said the other day that QPR had six players who would walk into the team but also said we need 5 players to challenge for the league so is it possible that after QPR beat us they will buy 4 of our players and win the league?

  • 213 Super Magpie // Dec 13, 2012 at 5:48 PM

This is absolutely appauling if we do this. Unless Marveaux wants to leave then there is no reason for a swap deal. We have money to spend, there is no doubt about that. With the position we’re in we can’t afford to hang about waiting to see if players prices will go down because we are in trouble. You can’t deny that, we will be lucky to be outside the bottom 3 after the Everton game.

Atleast 3 players need to be brought in during January. Defenders should be our priority; A CB who can pass out from the back and head a ball and a RB who can actually cross a ball and attack.

A striker should be the least of our priorities unless Ba leaves. Defenders first, then Sissoko and/ or Remy. I don’t have much confidence that we will bring the required amount of quality in January after what happened in the summer. This is Ashley’s and Llambias’ last chance to prove they want us to move forward otherwise they should leave since we have ‘ balanced our books’.

For Man City I think we should go 4-2-3-1

    Krul
    Simpson——-Perch—-Collo——-Santon
    —————-Tiote——Anita————–
    —-Ben-Arfa—–Marveaux——Obertan
    ————————Ba————————

I think we should work on having the three behind Ba constantly roatating as all three can play in all three positions up there. This would trouble Citys defense. I also chose them three because they all offer something different with there main attributes (Ben-Arfa = Skill, Obertan = Speed, Marveux = Passing)

I dropped Gutti and Cisse because they do not offer anything to the team really, even though Cisse has done decently on the RW I’d rather have either of them there. Lets face it, he’s not a RW.

This will also allow us to move to 4-4-2 with Obertan and Ba upfront, or 4-4-1-1 with Ben Arfa behind the striker.

    Subs
    Elliot
    Williamson
    Ferguson
    Tavernier
    Bigirimana
    Cisse
    Sh Ameobi

I like Marv and want him to stay but he doesn’t look like he’s always up for the hurly burly of the PL and if Pards doesn’t have full confidence in him then fair enough as far as I’m concerned cos I don’t either yet.

HBA may have been similar, his game seemingly wasn’t quite right from Pards perspective so he held him back till he felt confident he would deliver the graft and fight and attitude along with the undoubted skill and he has in spades.

Marv should be looking at how HBA developed as a Newcastle player as a model to follow. He looks a good player who can be an asset and I hope he gets his head around what Pards wants and we can get to see the best of him.

Paul Scharner would have made a big difference if he would’ve signed. We wouldn’t have been conceding silly goals and he would’ve scored 3/4 goals by now.

I reckon we would’ve had another 12 points if Paul was signed for free. It’s a huge mistake. Paul is a goalscorer and a versatile player.

One guy was right, I can’t see us winning another game with Williamson in the team.

The big question is if pardew is prepared to alter the style with better players secured. It wasn’t the case with tevez and mascherano, but maybe it will be this time around. Time will tell.

It worries me why even with Ba’s preference to play centrally, he hasn’t kept a 433 even if it meant playing Marv wide left, but has persisted with a system that does not work after 25+ games.

Pardew seems to be caught between playing his best players and the best formation. I can’t help feeling other, better managers could have come up with a solution as we have been losing against mediocre, not top drawer teams.

Perhaps a better manager could of seen this season but we wont know
The thing now is regardless of whether its pardews fault for selection, the boards fault for not securing signings or the players fault for under performing the club are in a position where the style of football needs to go on the back burner for now and we need to gets some points on the board regardless if its pretty to watch or not
The whole club has a role to play until january comes the board need to already working on securing targets, pards needs to be drilling the players we have fit and getting them into a better frame of mind and the players need to go out there and be prepared to fight tooth and nail for results
Thinks its fair to say none of the above are doing these to there ability at the moment
    The board need to invest
Pardew needs to be ruthless in selection for some that means dropping jonas but i think there are a couple of others especially tiote to give him a reminder he still needs to put the effort in!
The players need to show more on the pitch keep there heads on when defending, look up when passing instead of panicing and stop pulling out of 50/50’s ( that annous the hell out of me!)
One big concern i have is if cisse has the shoulders to take challenge of a relegation battle on

Jail and hotdog on Ashley”s summer spending…

He playec hard ball, wouldn’t pay above the limits he’d set and reckoned we still had a strong enough squad to take us through to January. I dont think Ashley, or any of us, thought we’d do as badly as we have,

Bottom line – he gambled and lost, hopefully a BIG lesson learnt. If he doesn’t get at least a net two first team squad players in Jan I’ll start to question his motives. For me, January is the biggest acid test Ashley has had since he bought the club.

  • 232 Ian Toon // Dec 13, 2012 at 6:43 PM

Transfer Marveaux’s standing with Pardew is a difficult one. He appears to have all the attributes to do well. I saw him in a pre season friendly against Hartlepool and he looked a potential starter. But he’s rarely featured and I can’t really explain why not. Post the Hartlepool game Pardew really sang his praises. I would like to see him feature certainly before any potential swap move in January. We need to keep our best players so let’s have a good look at him.

Sportswriters , football tv pundits commentators and nearly all the Newcastle public can see clearly that Ba Cisse dont work as a joint strikeforce.

Pardew has persisted with this long enough and has to see its not working.

THEY ARE NOT wingers or creative goal providers they are out and out goalscorers and need servic from midfield.

Relying on Simpson and Gutierrez to provide balls in when they clearly can t do it is so obviously not the answer.

Why cant Pardew and the other coaches find a system that works instead of stubbornly repeating the same ineffectual strategy.

We have enough talent in our squad to play people in the right areas .
When its so obviously not working why persist with a failing system.

He has to be replaced or given help.
