Amusing how no one is mentioning Santon… An absolute horror show of a performance from start to finish.

But it’s easier to moan about Pardew, Simpson, Williamson and Jonas isn’t it?

  • 2 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:48 PM

People get excited about how good he is going forward that they neglect how dreadful he is at times defensively. Simpson is twice the defender of Santon and gets slated on a daily basis.

    Strange isn’t it?

  • 3 89Norcal // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:48 PM

To be fair Santon DID try to redeem himself and looked excellent on the attack.

But yeah, that touch on City’s second goal is just the story of our unlucky season.

  • 4 catchy in norway // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:49 PM

it just goes to show you that maybe if he had attacked some of those poorer teams we might have got something out of them

his team selection baffeled me,, his subs baffeled me,,

    why was marv not starting???

why was it tiote subbed and not perch,, out of the 2 tiote is the better one,,

ferg came on as a left back but played as a left winger, jonas was no where

    i still want him out,

  • 5 BelfastMagpie // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:49 PM

Still dont understand how Marveaux cant get a game. Looked sharp when he came on.

  • 6 Tinman // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:49 PM

Krul, 8/10, made some good saves, not at fault for any goals, defence let him down
    Simpson, 6/10, another poor performance
Williamson, 7/10, looked a lot better today, won everything in the air and seemed more comfortable on the ball
Colloccini, 7/10, solid performance by the captain
Santon, 6/10, at fault for arguably 2 goals but again looked good going forward
Tiote, 7/10, his best game of the season so far
Perch, 5/10, looked lost in midfield
Anita, 8/10, MoM, assured touches, good link up, better set piece delivery
Jonas, 6/10, much more involved on the left flank but has lost any sort of cutting edge he used to have
Cisse, 7/10, still struggling out on the wing but showed sublime control and rarely gave the ball away
Ba, 7/10, scored the goal, looked dangerous, still too greedy in build up

Subs – didnt have enough time to make an impact

  • 7 89Norcal // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:50 PM

does anyone still read catchy’s comments?

Ed, would be nice to have a block feature..

  • 8 Tinman // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:52 PM

Pardew again leaves me scratching my head:

    Start Marv instead of Perch
Taking Cisse off for Ameobi – bring him on for defender
Marv brough on for Tiote instead of Perch

  • 9 catchy in norway // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:53 PM

    yeh,, they do :)

  • 10 roshan MAGPIE // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:53 PM

    my man of the match
    N-no nonsense

  • 11 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:53 PM

Another big positive to take from the game, other than the much better second half performance, is the fact that we looked incredibly dangerous from our set piece play, the goal we scored came directly as a result of set piece play.

Anita looks like a proper little player, if Tiote can recapture his old form and if we can get Cabaye fully fit, Anita, Cabaye, Tiote would be an awesome midfield 3

  • 12 catchy in norway // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:54 PM

norbit,, look tinman, is saying the same as me,, strange that

  • 13 catchy in norway // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:55 PM

    Ruddy Marveaux-lous

the asd fact is,, we already know we have a good team

    shame pardew dosnt

  • 14 daztoon // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:55 PM

At Home and Pardew picks a team to play for a point and once again has to chase the game.

  • 15 LGFUAD21 // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:56 PM

“does anyone still read catchy’s comments?

Ed, would be nice to have a block feature..”

This. The guy is a complete tool

  • 16 Tinman // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:58 PM

Catchy, yep I agree with you on this one mate.

Ruddy, exactly, ideally for me our midfield would be Tiote, Cabaye, Anita, with Marv left wing, and Ben Arfa right wing, but both Marv and Ben Arfa with the freedom to drift from those roles. And that obviously leaves Ba or Cisse up front. For me personally Cisse, but they are fairly close

  • 17 nufc1984 // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:59 PM

I hope no one is getting too excited over second half. Man city have been average at best this season but are grinding out results. they played with us first half and took foot off gas in 2nd. We never even looked like scoring, just played percentages and hoped something dropped for us I.e ba’s goal from colos nothing ball back in. We look devoid of ideas and defense is to bad to mention. Colo looks like he’s back to season before championship year and Simpson should go in January. Stands off so much, hope one of the worst league teams takes him off us. Thinks he’s better than he is.

  • 18 roshan MAGPIE // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:59 PM

happy with the second half performance of our players just the luck was not with us

  • 19 yorkshire_magpie // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:59 PM

Ba was very greedy at times today. Marveaux should’ve started today instead of perch. Anita was class cut above the rest.

  • 20 Indian Magpie // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:59 PM

i read Catchy’s comments. TBH agree with them 100%

  • 21 catchy in norway // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:00 PM

like i said to ian the other day,, im back in england in a few weeks,, say it to my face,, i dare ya

  • 22 roshan MAGPIE // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:01 PM

nufc1984 an average man city squad is second in the table dosent that mean the average man city squad is way better than the good nufc squad or any other mid table squad

  • 23 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:01 PM

Santon had a good game apart from the 2 mistakes he made. Santon is miles better defensively than Simpson and is quicker in the challenge.

  • 24 ToonMauritius // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:02 PM

    goodafterrnoon mates
it seems we need a laborious LB (M’Bengue), moving Santon RB, a new CB (M’Biwa), shipping Tiote out and bringing Diame & Sissoko in and a technical winger (R.Boudebouz), then we will English Premiership capable team, otherwise we are ………..

  • 25 Indian Magpie // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:03 PM

Anita was the only player in our side who could have gotten into city’s team

  • 26 89Norcal // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:03 PM

Well I figured you did Indian, you’re a fellow Pards witch hunter.

Interested to see how you two blame Pardew for Santon’s touch/own-goal or Simmo’s ball watching on the 3rd goal.

  • 27 ToonDownSouth // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:03 PM

Trying to threaten people over the internet should be a pretty low point in anyones life.

Seriously, grow up. It makes your contributions far less readable.

Yes, it’s also stupid of people to insult you over the internet, but just ignore them, that would be the mature thing to do.

  • 28 boater // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:03 PM

TDS – talking sense – makes an excellent point about Santon. I would go further and suggest he hasn’t been the golden boy everyone seems to think. He attacks a lot but has that Enrique trait of nothing coming of it. I prefer Simpson in a way- he’s primitive, but you know what you get,, Santon seems to be exposing us and not getting back to cover way too much.

Not much to read into losing to an excellent City side, apart from how reliant we are on Ba – then again maybe him leaving (regrettably) will force us into a desperately needed reshape up front.

  • 29 catchy in norway // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:03 PM

    Tinman indian

its because we see the game as it is ,, not how pardew talks it,,

we see the strengths in the team , and the weaknesses,,

we dont accept what we are seeing is a true representation of our squads tallents,,

some of these muppets only play football on a pc, i doubt they have ever played the game, have no ability on a ball or with a ball, the closest they get to a ball is when they feel there own

  • 30 ToonDownSouth // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:05 PM

There were times today when I felt Ba was being a bit too selfish – but then I’m not sure whether that’s his nature, or whether he’s just aware that no one else in the team could hit a barn door at the moment!

  • 31 roshan MAGPIE // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:06 PM

trick question for every one who is better defender titus shamble or Williamson

  • 32 catchy in norway // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:07 PM

i really dont care what you think, not one bit,,

if its ok for them to have a go at me, then its ok for me to say what i like back,,

if you dont like it , dont read it,, and dont reply,,

in fact where were you to say to them,, ehh had on lads,, ppl have a right to air there views regardless,, what you have jsut said makes you as bad as them

  • 33 daztoon // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:08 PM

I think Santon got some unfair stick for the first goal sometimes you have to give credit to great movement and a good goal

  • 34 89Norcal // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:08 PM

Williamson looks like he’s putting on size, seems like he’s trying hard to prove his worth in the last few weeks, mind you he still screws up. But today he was solid except that 1st conceded goal when our whole line was awful.

  • 35 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:09 PM

Indian does not see the game how it is, he doesn’t have any cogent views on football, all he provides is constant criticism of certain players without any analysis or insight.

The very fact that you are finding yourself defending someone like him shows how hard up you are in your search for people who agree with you.

  • 36 Indian Magpie // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:09 PM

See i agree with him what Catchy says.

Apart from shola & willo who i criticize, I dont lay into any 1, may be on a game to game basis.

  • 37 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:10 PM

    Shut up

  • 38 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:10 PM

Catchy…Did you actually reads TDS’ comment to you before replying? Seems you’ve missed his point entirely.

  • 39 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:11 PM

Woops meant to put a ” :P ” after that to show I was being sarky haha

  • 40 nufc1984 // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:11 PM

Roshan-man city won league last season playing great football. They played it in first half against us and made us look foolish. Second Half they sat back and soaked up pressure while we hoofed ball after ball into their area. Then scored when they wanted to. it was a training exercise. What I’m trying to explain is they have been bad all season but won points. the second half has no relevance to our season or play in general as we still didn’t look threatening camped in their half and they turned on the style when it was needed I.e for 3rd goal. It was a stroll for them without their two best cb’s on pitch up against our two best strikers, don’t get too excited!

  • 41 ToonDownSouth // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:11 PM

Seeing as you clearly didn’t read al of my comment, and you then followed it up by a remark about how people fondling their own testicles, I find it very hard to believe that you’re anything but an angry little child.

I’ve tried to talk seriously with you on so many occasions now, as have plenty of other posters, but it’s no use at all. Enjoy being miserable for your entire life, because I fear that’s all you’ll ever be if you carry on spending all day moaning about football.

  • 42 catchy in norway // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:11 PM

i will stick up for santon,,

he has been our most consistant player this year, today, jonas was there to help him on the left wing,, but was he??

poor santon has been our only outlet on the left for a long time now, so for him to be in both positions will leave him out of position more than he would normally be,,

one bad game,,you guys should be ashamed to say that about him when jonas hasnt had a good one this season

you think 10 mins against fulham and he is great again

  • 43 boater // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:12 PM

I know it’s heresy on here to put Simpson over Santon but at least Simpson loses possession via crosses from deep and is in position to cover – Santon is normally outside the opposition penalty area when he gives the ball away – leaving the centre backs exposed to the counter again and again.

Anita looks good. We desperately miss Cabaye and still need to find a solution to the lack of clear chances created issue and striker positioning. Cisse had one clear one-on-one today – from a Santon run in fairness – missed it, but it was a sign of improvement in the build up play.

  • 44 Williamsonsuks // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:12 PM

Nufc1984, C’mon man colo is jyst an all round great player. He’s quite fast, technically brilliant, has great vision, and is cool under pressure. Only con i’d say is his height.

  • 45 Jail for Ashley // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:12 PM

You can cite a players lack of professionalism for not raising their game but when the entire back four know that whatever happens they cannot be dropped surely this breeds complancey.

  • 46 Tinman // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:13 PM

I have to say I thought Pardew was very good last season, but this season he has made errors in every single game. His substitutions have been baffling this season. We are behind at Stoke and Man City, 1st two which pop to my head, and he TAKES OFF A STRIKER!!! Unbelievable. Absolute madness.

Apart from that his constant need to play Jonas. And heres an idea, play Fergusson and Santon as our Full Backs, drop Danny ‘Float Cross’ Simpson. Or even play Perch at RB…

Playing strikers on wings, defenders in midfield…. Its all going to catch up with your team sooner or later.

  • 47 89Norcal // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:13 PM

there you go catchy, ignore TDS and Ibiza when they find you out. Nice strategy.

  • 48 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:15 PM

Santon simply has not been good enough defensively, why do people laud attacking full backs that cannot defend? If he wants to play that way, why does he not call himself a midfielder?

Santon’s primary objective is to defend and he does not do this well enough. He doesn’t hold the correct line, he is constantly found out of position and he is always too far away from the wide man.

Why does he escape criticism simply because he is good going forward?

  • 49 Its not arfa Ba but krul for cisse // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:16 PM

I haven’t been one to jump on the bash Jonas bandwagon this season mainly because people have wrongly viewed his role as the old Jonas tricky winger when he is now a hard working CM, but he needs to be dropped. His attacking threat is incredibly limited and he gives the ball away too much. I think a short spell on the sidelines might even reinvigorate him. When players get comfortable they tend to get sloppy

  • 50 Its not arfa Ba but krul for cisse // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:17 PM

I agree, and although his attacking play is pretty on the eye, how many tangible goals have actually derived from his forward runs? One I can think of and that wasnt a direct assist.

  • 51 nufc1984 // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:19 PM

The only thing I will say about Simpson is he is a statue when it comes to defending his line. He constantly backs off his man and let’s them play around him. Sooner he goes the better. You need defenders to outmuscle and tackle hard, he does neither!! And at least santon can take a man on and actually beat a player. Would santons defensive frailties be exposed as often if we had a more mobile back line like kompany and lescott? Not likely

  • 52 daztoon // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:19 PM

Maybe if we had a decent manager he would see Santon is more of a midfielder and play him there instead of Perch who is more a defender.Santon offers far more going forward than our wingers or midfielders bar Benny and Marv who cant get a game

  • 53 BelfastMagpie // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:23 PM

Good performance second half, but it means nowt. We got no points.

We need to start playing players in their proper positions, instead of square pegs in round holes.

Cisse is not a winger for a start.

  • 54 Its not arfa Ba but krul for cisse // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:23 PM

Yeah thats definitely a move I would like to see. APis obsessed with hard working tough tackling midfielders it seems

  • 55 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:25 PM

Surely if you are going to defend Santon’s defensive frailties on the fact that we don’t have a mobile backline, then the same can be said for Simmo’s defensive frailties?

Seems like you are picking on Simmo and defending Santon purely on the basis that you like one and don’t like the other.

  • 56 nufc1984 // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:38 PM

Ruddy-the point is santon loses the ball up the field where the defense can readjust!! Not standing there in the box letting the opposition play round him while he stoops over like an arthritic old man!!
