Ben Arfa Out – Perch Starts Against Manchester City

11:50 am, Saturday, December 15th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 406 Comments

manchester-city-crest

Newcastle have brought back James Perch in the starting line-up for the game today against Manchester City at St. James’ Park.

But unfortunately it looks like that hamstring injury to Hatem Ben Arfa has kept his comeback short-lived, and the French Internationals will be sorely missed today against the Premier League Champions.

The team shows just that one change from the starting line-up at Craven Cottage on Monday night, and Perch for Ben Arfa shows how much creativity we have lost in the side today.

As expected Newcastle will play in a 4-3-3 lineup with Perch in midfield and Ba, Cisse and Gutierrez up front – and Ben Arfa doesn’t even make the bench.

The Ameobi brothers are both on the bench and could see some action in the second half.

This is another vital but tough game for Newcastle, and our players will have to shine if we are to get anything at all out of this game today.

Howay The Lads!!

Teams:

Newcastle United (4-3-3): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; James Perch, Cheick Tiote, Vurnon Anita; Papiss Cisse, Demba Ba, Jonas Gutierrez

Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Joe Hart; Pablo Zabaleta, Kolo Toure, Matija Nastasic, Gael Clichy; Javi Garcia, Yaya Toure; Samir Nasri, Sergio Aguero, David Silva; Carlos Tevez

Feel sorry for City they have such a poor squad, Jonas will tear them a new one.

#MCFC XI vs #NUFC: Hart, Zabaleta, Kolo Toure, Nastasic, Clichy, Garcia, Yaya Toure, Nasri, Silva, Tevez, Aguero

  • 3 Transfer Sage // Dec 15, 2012 at 11:52 AM

    Terrible line up.

There is no link between attack and midfield. There is no width.

I can’t see where we will get a goal from.

I’m just hoping for a special goal from cisse or Ba.

  • 4 Nufc-83 // Dec 15, 2012 at 11:53 AM

Wow who thinks we will muster a shot on goal with that team. Anita most attacking player in mid an he is a dm/fb. Nice 1 pards you clown.

Why isn’t Marveaux starting? is there any logic after wigan.

Why is he still starting Guti? He’s really offered nothing this season, even going back he hasn’t been too great. *confused*

  • 12 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 15, 2012 at 11:56 AM

83….One of our long balls might be so over hit it might count as a shot on goal?

Oh well, we have 2 teams who have only won one game in their last six….both against Wigan. Don’t fancy out chances, but HWTL – give them hell.

  • 13 Colo-Sus // Dec 15, 2012 at 11:57 AM

Sorry but that is dreadful Pardew….At home playing that team is so negative. Cricket score methinks

  • 14 Jarra // Dec 15, 2012 at 11:57 AM

I appreciate we are limited to options but I do think we have made a huge mistake in this line up which is a flat as a 4 4 2 you could ever imagine.
Ba and Cisse is not working and has no hope of working when we do not have one creative player in the team. I would have gone one up with Marveaux behind the lone striker.
Well there is always the corner or set play where we could get a goal and hangon, but then again we seem slightly lacking in set play goals as well.
Good luck lads we sure as hell are gonna need it.

  • 15 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 15, 2012 at 11:57 AM

No confidence whatsoever with that line up. Our strikers find it hard enough to get chances with the likes of Cabaye & Ben Arfa and that team has no creativity and is just Pardew looking not to get beat. Marveaux must be tearing his hair out

  • 16 Transfer Sage // Dec 15, 2012 at 11:59 AM

Ah well, ok disappointed in the team selection but what’s done is done.

Lets get 3 points and kick on.

    Haway the lads

  • 17 Rake // Dec 15, 2012 at 11:59 AM

If we get a free kick or a corner it will go back post onto Willo’s head…. sick of seeing corners and free kciks wasted. Just whip it in for Cisse and Ba to ATTACK!!!

another thing this points out is no matter how much we how please can a city play knock jonas out otherwise marvo will never start.

  • 26 Dannyo // Dec 15, 2012 at 12:04 PM

Better play with fire in our bellies today, cause we’ll mostly stop the oppositions play and hope for a worldie goal or two.
We need to play with passion, cause the oppositions team will murder us with their skill.
    Cmon lads.

Probably best for Marveaux to move on in January.
If he cant get in our team at the minute, he’s never going to get in the team.

belfast i can guarentee marvo will be not in our team next season a few weeks back marvo was wanting more starts but pardew just does not know how to drop players
we saw it with santon and HBA now we are seeing it with jonas and i am thinking that if remy comes in we might as well hope ba or cisse are sold otherwise he will not play remy

  • 32 niafron // Dec 15, 2012 at 12:11 PM

Perch in midfield suggest Pard expect us to be routed. So he field a very defensive team in order to avoid a 4 or 5 to nil score.

  • 33 Indian Magpie // Dec 15, 2012 at 12:13 PM

    Against Fulham,

it was 1 thing not to start him but to bring him on 86 minutes was almost criminal.

  • 44 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 15, 2012 at 12:20 PM

Catchy….I’m not disputing whether too many have played at once, we’re discussing whether the youth players are PL quality. Granted if one was mixed in with 10 normal starters in theory they would cope fine, but does that make them PL quality? No, but it would bring them along.

No dispute, this is a pretty defensive team, but really only the exclusion of Marv surprises me.

    I don’t get it either.

I don’t want Jonas to start but wouldn’t wish injury on him.

Also, I don’t want pardew out, but if I did I wouldn’t want us to lose to facilitate that.

    Catchy
Why cant they play as team? You were just saying they were second in the reserve league so surely they play together every week?
There not good enough for the PL because they lack competitive experience which there not gonna gain in the reserve league and they wont be playing in europa league now the group stage is over
And alot of clubs play a large numbers of youngun’s at once catchy
    Arsenal in the league cup?
Manure in the league cup? (against us)
    Liverpool in away europa games
    Arsenal in CL after qualifying?

  • 51 JP...from The Rock // Dec 15, 2012 at 12:22 PM

Gutierrez did improve very slighty last weekend but still we can’t play as he’s no where near the level we need for this league. Marveaux even Fergurson have done enough to merit a starting berth.

We are crying out for creativity and those two supply it but they are again left on the bench!? why damn it!? They can’t be that impressive in training I suppose.

I bet the game today will make me cringe as I watch but we could perform a miracle and score, and who know we might even take some points.

  • 54 toonking // Dec 15, 2012 at 12:25 PM

maybe not get an injury perhaps it is better to hope he gets a booking today misses QPr and marvo replaces him and scores a goal and creates one

  • 55 JP...from The Rock // Dec 15, 2012 at 12:25 PM

Ruddy – hahaha nice 1. Though you have to admit Willo has been unlucky with the amount of times his headers have hit the frame of the goal or cleared off the line. Maybe today might be his day :)

  • 57 Transfer Sage // Dec 15, 2012 at 12:25 PM

    Tads

Look and man utd or arsenal. Even they struggle when they turn out a team of mainly kids.

man utd did it and lost to cluj

The problem is, as you say, making the step up from reserve to first team.

You need to integrate kids slowly, one or two at a time so they get experience and used to playing with and against better players.

You stick Barcelonas under 18/21 team into the PL and they will struggle to get wins.

Your not a fan just cis live in the post code

  • 64 nufcusa // Dec 15, 2012 at 12:27 PM

I dont understand the demand for Marveaux. I know he is a more attacking player than some of those in the team and I know jonas has been poor, but there is a reason the lad has hardly played…..hes average!

he had one good game against 10 man wigan and now hes the new messiah. Give me a break. Bring him off the bench and let him prove he can change games and not waste the ball and then he will deserve a start.

He is only a better option in most peoples eyes because he is not jonas. That does not make him better. Jonas has been poor but so have many others. However, Jonas has been a consistent performer for 4 or so years and is having a rough patch.

The team today is about right based on the opposition. We are not good enough to match them attack vs. attack and need to play on the break and protect will and colo.

I dont think this team will win the game but I also dont think any team we could pick to day would win. Im hoping for a point and then 3 next week and if we do that then we will have to sit back and say we had a very productive week.

  • 100 JP...from The Rock // Dec 15, 2012 at 12:42 PM

Joe Blog + Ruddy – Don’t get me wrong Willo should be back up and not a starter but injuries make him force his way into the team. He has been closer than just 2 chances in 2 years but still we need better. We desperately need a towering defender in the summer that can hold his own in the centre just like Colo. Saylor is way too injury prone to last one full season.

We need a rock like Douglas that can also be a threat going forward.

I don’t really think we’re mixing it up in corners to be honest, I think it was more luck that it fell to Colo for his great attempt on goal. We need to mix it up and forthat reason I would have liked to see Marveaux or Fergie start as they can at least cross a ball and cause them problems.

We’re so thin in general it really is worrying and one more injury would be a serious problem. We are only one point better than the season we went down.

We had better wake up and start performing and that goes to all our players apart from Santon and Bigirimana, the rest need a good ol’ right kick in the ass!

  • 101 Joe Blog // Dec 15, 2012 at 12:43 PM

Pardew looking a bit more haggard around the eyes, now the pressure is piling up!

  • 102 nufcusa // Dec 15, 2012 at 12:43 PM

L.Aravind…..we are oit of form and playing the reigning champions.

We all hope for a win but realistically, a defeat is the most likely option! therefore your ‘debate’ will be a non event and will ahrdly prove you a sthe new Nostradamus.

Stick to supporting the team and backing the current manager of the year…who no doubt you were lauding last season…..and stay positive. A defeat today will not see us relegated and a win will not see us looking towards Europe. We have a tough run and a win today could still be followed by 4 defeats so we are no better off.

If we can take 5 points out of 15, that would be a positive up swing based on our upcoming opponents. However, targeting 6 from qpr and everton must be the target and then anything else is like playing with house money.

    Transfer Sage @ 3
Completely agree. Catchy keeps harping on about defense but our real weakness has been midfield. Tiote and Cabaye have only played 3 matches together this season, HBA out as well – so we loose all creativity. Jonas has lost his pace so surely Marveaux. Need a diamond shape and opt sadly for 4-4-2 due to our injuries though I hate it but 4-3-3 with two defensive midfielders + potential creative midfielder Anita though signed as a DM! No Marveaux….CRAZY!!! Hope the lads can pull the rabbit out the hat though….by god we need it! HWTL

We should learn the art of counter-attacking football along the ground as we keep lumping it long and giving the ball away.

We seem to be tryin to pass it better and neater but we still are coming up short, our passing is again woeful.

We need strong, quick, players that are great short ball passers.

Look at Man City how well they link up with one touch football, Swansea do it to a degree as well and it makes the opposition make mistakes.

So poor on the ball and doesn’t protect the back 4 anything like enough, actually is more of a hindrance, due to the above.

  • 209 nufcusa // Dec 15, 2012 at 1:37 PM

As much as the purists will hate this… we need to play direct against this city defeense and play for free kicks anc corners.

    Shola for Cisse
    Fergurson for Jonas

Get it wide and Box it.

Only time we have looked like scoring is from the one area we are truly crap…..free kicks. Play for more of them and have shola in there as an extra header of the ball.

Only change is we shouldnt always look for williamson. Ba defends free kicks/corners well at our end. aim for him once in a while.

  • 214 Spreadthetoon // Dec 15, 2012 at 1:38 PM

Some depressing reading lads below which I found earlier this week. Personally I have not called for Pardew’s firing…..why …..stability….but I will not continue to blindly…we must beat QPR next week IMO and if not then there has to be some serious changes!

Newcastle are the only team yet to score from a set piece this season.

    - Newcastle have scored once in the last 240 corners, the last coming over a year ago in October 2011.

    - Newcastle have scored from two headers this season. However, one of which was Demba Ba’s handball v Reading. Take this one away and they have the joint lowest in the Premier League.

    - Since Alan Pardew joined Newcastle two years ago, they are yet to win any Premier League game after going behind.

    - Newcastle statistically average the most long balls per game, have played the most long balls overall and have the highest percentage of long balls played within total number of passes. (EPL Index)

    - Newcastle have kept just one clean sheet in the league thus far.
Newcastle have not lined up in the 4-3-3 system with Ba LW, Cisse CF & Ben Arfa RW once this season which helped them go on a six game winning streak at the end of last season.

    - Out of the recognised starting XI only Cabaye, Ben Arfa and Steven Taylor are officially injured.

This is definately gonna be a relegation battle!!!!!!!! If I was offered £20m for Tiote right now, I’ll take it without hesitation! He’s nothing g like last year!!!! Ba has been nothing short of awful!!!!!!! How did we go from 5th to this? As for Pardew, he has to go!:(:(:(

  • 216 JP...from The Rock // Dec 15, 2012 at 1:39 PM

Danish_Magpie- Exactly. We are nowhere near last seasons form. We need new bodies in there , players that can pass and move quickly, players that can play good one touch football whatever their position. We are terrible passers of the ball in general and not even Cabaye is great at passing for us. We had better sign in January or we could be again…you know the ‘R’ word.

  • 217 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 15, 2012 at 1:39 PM

Tads…Saw the first 10 minutes (approx) and we were playing pretty well. Looked up for it.

Just saw the replay of one of the goals, Santon and Colo pretty ineffective.

Let’s hope the defense sorts themselves out at HT, playing alright and losing 2-0 isn’t overly inspiring.

We are playing well but City are in a different higher league to us. Their interplay and movement is quicker and more precise.

We need Marveaux on for Perch not that Perch has played badly but Marveaux has the skills to open defences.

  • 226 Oleg G // Dec 15, 2012 at 1:43 PM

If I am Pards, I would already start trying something different this season. Why Marv and Ferg. are not playing more? I don’t get it.
Why to put Cisse and Ba on together, they don’t contribute.

We don’t shoot, we don’t score, we don’t get any real attacking power. I don’t get it. No play-maker. How do you play sports like basketball or football or whatever, without a play-maker?

  • 227 Trent Toon // Dec 15, 2012 at 1:43 PM

  • 229 Mister Tuff // Dec 15, 2012 at 1:43 PM

Even the commentator said Newcastle are ball watching and not tracking back with runners. If they cannot understand these elementals/basics of football we have no chance. Excuses will be the usual tripe along with well they are the champions. More than one ore two players needed in January.
Stats suggest that sacking a manager mid term -does not always work advantageously – I would take the gamble and peddle Parsnip as soon as possible – this course of action may not seem appropriate to the blind faith brigade /the delusionals on here but it will happen -so the sooner the better.

Jonas offers defense, agains a weaker team yes remove him, but against city no. Santon is good attacking but not too good defensively so thats why jonas is there.

I dont know what you have been watching but if we had played like this all season (and with benny on RW) we wud be in the top 7.

  • 239 Special K // Dec 15, 2012 at 1:47 PM

I really like Gutierrez, great guy but he’s not getting it done out on the wing. I remember when he first joined, he was all about knocking it past the defender and generally causing havoc. Anyone remember his first game v Utd, he was unplayable.

I don’t know why either Chrissy H or Pards have encouraged him to be more conservative, they’ve converted him into a CM. Almost like Ryan Giggs, but Jonas is only 29! Not 39!

  • 245 Mister Tuff // Dec 15, 2012 at 1:50 PM

  • 246 fray bentos // Dec 15, 2012 at 1:50 PM

I think after watching this game when we have been given the chance to open up several goalscoring opportunities its obvious our players (except Ben Arfa) just are not upto the standard we thought after last season, most of them have no ability to open a goalscoring opportunity with their 1st touch with is vital in the prem, therefore i reckon our teams ability is probably about middle 10th certainly not 5th, therefore we are underperforming but not as much as some people think

Back to the game Man City are playing amazing going forward and any defence would have problems, the thing about playing against teams of their calibre is making the most of your chances, something our players cannot do as they are not good enough unless their moral is stupidly high like last season

  • 247 t00ntime // Dec 15, 2012 at 1:51 PM

Maybe krul Was in the wrong place (didnt look at it) but in the premier league, you have to be able to kck the ball of the line. Thats why you put a player on the post

It’s not about 4-3-3 or , 4-4-2 ( not only), the kind of player you got on the ptich make all the difference.

Colo with a bit of a mistake there. 2nd half performance has been a lot better than I’d have thought so can’t complain too much. Grab another goal and give City something to worry about.

  • 342 Oleg G // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:26 PM

  • 344 Newcastle for alltid // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:27 PM

What the F*CK is Danny Simpson doing? Worst player on the team. Just when we were pushing for a goal he delivers a lazy careless piece of play. We don’t need players like that in our team. Belongs in the championship where he’s never under the same amount of pressure and where he gets his 3 minutes to prepare for crosses. What a piece of thrash.

  • 345 karasu // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:30 PM

Those three goals tells us more about Man City’s quality than our lack thereof.

Now if only all that momentum can be replicated in our coming matches.

Papiss Cisse is not scoring so. AP shold sub him FAST for MAUX. But AP Sub 24 out! That is wrong Sub. Wrong.

well it was a mistake to wish injury i change it to just hoping he got booked so he misses the QPR game
but all in all i think that pardews problem is he is acting like a chicken who thinks because we have such a poor defence this season we need to play lot of DMs when infact that just makes it worse as teams will be allow to play higher up the pitch what pardew needs to do is either go to a 4-4-2 or drop jonas and cisse for marvo and HBA next game. as a 4-3-3

  • 360 Oleg G // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:36 PM

Anita Marv and HBA should be playing together.
Marv in the center with Anita and Tiote behind them, and HBA on the right moving to the middle as a free player, with Cisse or Ba in front

  • 361 niafron // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:36 PM

Yeah, Vurnon ‘The Bluebottle’ Anita – I think he’s earned that title. Combined with Cabaye, who was the most industrious player in the PL last season, we’ll have plenty of energy in there. Their snappy passing styles should complement each other too, perhaps what Cabaye has needed, someone to share the load.

A shame that the way this season is shaping up, they may not get to forge an understanding in B&W.

Luckily the Pardew witch-hunters are easy to spot out.

Offensively we were good, it was two obvious individual errors that led to the 2nd two goals. The 1st we conceded was overall poor defense, which has been the story this whole season.

Well, we didn’t expect the win and overall as a team gave some fight, which was encouraging.

We know there are areas we need to improve and if the rest of the season hadn’t been so poor, we’d look at this game as an okay one.

If we can play like that against QPR we should get 3 points, heck, I’d fancy a result against Arsenal if we play like that.

Anita MOM – improving with every game, might not have been the most urgent signing in the summer, but was a bloody good one.

Sorry don’t agree. I was asking for Marv after our 1st goal but not at the cost of tiote who had a good game. Take the rosetints off they don’t suit ya.

2nd half much better but why can we not play 90 mins…not good enough. We’re playing at home so I would always expect a very spirited performance. IMO AP has got to win nxt wk against QPR at home….if he don’t then I cannot see him lasting.
Anita defo MOTM….our newest player gives the most spirited performance….if everyone had his work rate we wouldn’t be in this mess…..take note Simmo.
Btw someone mentioned Anita, Marv, HBA ……..sounds like a logical set up with Tiote/Bigi at CDM…..that would support Cisse/BA who IMO are still not getting enough service from midfield

  • 385 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:44 PM

If we keep playing like that then we will be more than ok. That second half performance, bar the final 10mins was excellent and showed what we are capable of.

Ba may have scored but his selfishness is costing us big time. Cannot wait to see Cisse down the middle. Tiote has been dreadful this season and has been dreadful again today but needs must and I really hope he picks himself up soon.

Positive second half, and on another day we would have converted one of those chances that Hart saved, which would have made it a completely different game.

  • 386 Oleg G // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:45 PM

    nufc1984 // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:40 PM

Marv did more in 20 mins than 5 players did in 90, not just Jonas. He is so intelligent. He sees 3-4 plays ahead, he knows how to pull the players towards him and give a pass at the right moment. He has a great touch and a creative mind. A true play maker.

  • 387 JP...from The Rock // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:45 PM

Well we lost but I can take heart from the second half performance. Anita MoM for me. Some of our play in the second half is exactly what we should do every match, quick one touch passes and movement, we did it in spells and when we did we caused City all sorts of problems, they struggled to defend us and got a bit lucky. We lacked that killer instinct in those spells and we need to do that consistently and we’ll be fine.

3-1 ain’t so bad it could have been worse and we could have leveled with Cisse but that’s football and we got what we expected against the champions-a defeat.

What bugs me is the soft goals we conceded. Had we been more alert in defense we could have drawn this one.

  • 388 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:46 PM

I got the score right. I totally agree that Anita, Tiote, Marveaux and Ben Arfa should make up the midfield. Gutierrez has gone. Williamson had his best ever game for us today. Simpson was very poor. Santon did well in the second half. We just need Debuchy, Aldereweild, Sissoko and Remy and then we’d have a good team.

  • 389 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:46 PM

Mr T back to his best? He was nowhere near his best today, don’t know where that is coming from.

  • 390 jimiley // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:47 PM

We played them off the park in the second half. It was men against boys. We were so unlucky.Top 8 spot is a formality. Anita and jonas were excellent.

  • 391 Tinman // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:47 PM

An unlucky Newcastle beaten by the class act that is Yaya Toure.

Krul, 8/10, made some good saves, not at fault for any goals, defence let him down
    Simpson, 6/10, another poor performance
Williamson, 7/10, looked a lot better today, won everything in the air and seemed more comfortable on the ball
Colloccini, 7/10, solid performance by the captain
Santon, 6/10, at fault for arguably 2 goals but again looked good going forward
Tiote, 7/10, his best game of the season so far
Perch, 5/10, looked lost in midfield
Anita, 8/10, MoM, assured touches, good link up, better set piece delivery
Jonas, 6/10, much more involved on the left flank but has lost any sort of cutting edge he used to have
Cisse, 7/10, still struggling out on the wing but showed sublime control and rarely gave the ball away
Ba, 7/10, scored the goal, looked dangerous, still too greedy in build up

Subs – didnt have enough time to make an impact

  • 392 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:49 PM

My stream kept playing up. Do you think Marveaux did enough to earn a starting spot next match?

  • 393 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:50 PM

Cisse looked better on the ball today.

  • 394 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:50 PM

Maybe I demand a higher standard from Tiote that others do, or maybe others are judging him in comparison to his other performances this season, which have been dreadful.

He dallies on the ball, his first touches were poor and his passing leaves a lot to be desired at times. Yes he may have broke up play much like his old self but he still is nowhere near the midfield destroyer of old.

  • 395 Slank // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:55 PM

    Tinman @ 388

I agree with your assessment. I thought Anita showed what a really good player he is and why we bought him.

However, he needs another nimble player alongside him, namely Marveaux. The pair of them have the quality, skill and composure to control the midfield and provide the passes for our forwards. But they need Tiote alongside.

  • 396 Spreadthetoon // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:57 PM

Is that the real Ruddy? If so your talking nonsense….Tiote was immense IMO especially the 2nd half….had a couple of poor touches early on does not make for an entire match.

  • 397 Slank // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:58 PM

    Ketsbaia9 @ 389

Yes, Marveaux should start alongside Anita and Tiote.

  • 398 JP...from The Rock // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:59 PM

Ruddy – spot on. Tiote did better in the second half but still his overall display today and all this season has left a lot to be desired. He has to stop trying to dribble like HBA and trying to shoot like Cisse v Chelsea last season.

Anita did very well today. Marveaux, Anita and Bigirimana should start next game.

  • 399 Slank // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:01 PM

    Ruddy Marveaux-lous @ 391

Part of Tiote’s problem is that he doesn’t always have someone to pass to. He hangs onto the ball too long but some of this is that he is trying to find a colleague.

He needs to play in a three man midfield with players alongside him who are good at close control of the ball. There just isn’t enough options for him.

  • 400 Oleg G // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:02 PM

    Ketsbaia9 // Dec 15, 2012 at 2:49 PM

Marv did enough long time ago. There is no team (I hope for them at least) that plays without a play maker. Only we do that. Marv. needs to be there even if he is bad. We play with 2 strikers who don’t have a play-maker who will pass them the ball, that is ridiculous.

Marv did well. He made 3-4 plays in the 20 mins he played, and did great. He is all positive. Fights for the ball, gives the pass in the right place, doesn’t let the player wait for the ball or run after it, but gives it exactly in the right place to make the play positive.

He sees the pitch, he has good skills and dribbling abilities, Definitively a good player to have in the starting 11.

  • 401 Oleg G // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:04 PM

    Slank // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:01 PM

    So true.!
HBA does the same, he is ready to pass, but there are so many times when there is no one to pass to. So yes, these players are smart enough not just to give away the ball, but they wait. Sometimes waiting cause them to lose the ball, but that is the fault of their teammates who are not giving passing options.

  • 402 JP...from The Rock // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:04 PM

Slank – I have to disagree with you there. Many times Tiote has had players in open space and he keeps turning and turning instead of one turn and a pass. He tries too hard to play the perfect pass when he should be keeping it simple.

  • 403 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 15, 2012 at 3:18 PM

Yeah, Marveaux should always be in the first team. I don’t understand why Pardew plays with 3 defensive midfielder’s. Nobody was making runs through the middle and creating chances.

This is my starting line-up for the next match:

    Krul

    Santon Coloccini Perch Gutierrez

    Tiote Anita

    Ben Arfa Marveaux Someone

    Ba

  • 404 West Lancs Geordie // Dec 15, 2012 at 4:21 PM

We are poles apart. Only looked like Colo, Anita, Tiote, Ba & Krul good enough. In every other department we were completely outclassed. Aguero & Tevez too quick for Willo & Simmo. Accept it Pards Ba & Cisse cant play together. Gutierez – he fell over, he fell over & over & over again. No creativity without Bennie & Yohan but is Bennie going to be like Saylor missing for more than half the season through constant injury problems. Ashley will probably sell Ba Tiote or Krul to raise funds but we need strong battlers now with bit of creativity. A class FB & CB also imperative. If he is to perservere with front two must get someone who can cross balls from byline. Fergie is about the best of a bad bunch at present. Bottom 3 by January beckons. Last place drop position between Mackems, Latics, Villa , Saints & US. QPR a mega game. Vernun Anita best player today by a country mile
