Pardew – We Had Some Great Performances Against City

Goals from Sergio Aguero, Javi Garcia and Yaya Toure were enough to give Manchester City thew win against Newcastle on Saturday at St. James’ Park and that’s the third home game in four that we have lost.

Alan Pardew – six defeats in the last eight league games

And another defeat means just one win in our last 11 games overall, and just 4 points form the last eight games in the Premier League, during which time we’ve picked up six defeats.

This is what manager Alan Pardew told nufcTV:

“We had some great performances and are not far away.” “I’ve been on runs like this with teams where you don’t look like you are going to score, and that is a worry. But we look like we’ve got bags of goals.”

“We created so many chances and on another day we would have got two or three.” “It’s that little bit of resilience, stop giving away soft goals at important times, and things could change.”

“We had a fantastic go at it. With the crowd starting to make an impact because we were making an impact, we got a goal.” “There were then two big chances for an equalizer – Demba in the six-yard box from the corner and Papiss Cisse right in the middle of the goal, where you would expect him to score.”

“They were just holding on really and trying to hit us on the break, and in their first real attack of the second half they scored. That decided the game really.”

Vurnon Anita, Cheick Tiote, Demba Ba and Davide Santon all played well on Saturday, but Davide still has to improve on his positional play and was at fault for the first goal, and was unlucky not to clear off the line for City’s second goal.

But that last sentence from Alan tells of how we are very fragile in defense these days, and it’s very hard to win games, when you keep leaking poor goals as we’ve done far too many times lately.

The back four of Simpson, Coloccini, Williamson and Santon is looking mediocre at the moment, and we just have to tighten up at the back.

We need to win our next game against QPR on Saturday, because then we start a tough three game schedule at Manchester United, Arsenal and at home to Everton.

    Mediocre is about right.

Lose to QPR and we’re really in it.

I’m surprised Pardew is still the manager.
    That’s quite a losing streak.

One more loss to a relegation team and Pardew should go.

How about this LADS as a team for after January:

Elliot, Raylor, Saylor, Jonas, Marveaux, Obertan, Shola

This team would concentrate on the play-making side of things. In-cooperate our forgotten 4-3-3 and would focus on wingers and pace. Anita is also a very good full-back and could be brought in to defensive midefield in the place of sissoko if we are coming under pressure and need to play defensive.

    Ba – £7M
    Simpson – £2.5M

    Remy – £11M
    Douglas – £2.5M
    Sissoko – £2M

Is MA gave Wor’ Pards, the money for Cisse (around £10M), then why wouldn’t he spend £11M or so, on Loic Remy?

Seems like good business to me! 😉

Also, can’t Demba Ba’s release clause only be activated by a club in the champion’s league. By that reckoning, Liverfool, Spuds, and QPR (Quality Players Ruined.) are all out of the race???!!!

Guys what do you think of the squad?

I love that team you put up , but tragically that is probably a million miles awy from what pardew is envisaging. He doesn’t see the pictures!!!

Just because we are playing willo and simmo now sure as hell doesn’t mean we have to continue with them. Ok tav and fergie we don’t know much about but Willo and simmo we do, so something has to change.

For someone without an 8 year contract, 7 losses out of 8 and a solitary win in 11 against 10 men for virtually a whole match would mean goodbye.

Perch could easily come in for willo , santon could move to RB or if colo played sweeper behind perch
and Tav, santon could go RWB and Fergie or Jonas LWB.
2 hard working midfield players in the middle in Anita and Tiote and Benny and Marveaux either side of Cisse. Then we’d have some pace and defensive cover with attacking options too.

Bloody….Strong line up, not sure how happy Anita will be as our RB as didn’t he seek assurances he’d be mainly played in midfield? Understandable too with his performances of late.

I don’t think incoming players is far fetched this January, but I do understand many peoples skepticism.

Rotonda…I’m not saying don’t change anything, but to say Fergie and Tav should be starting instead, based on what I’ve seen to date, doesn’t fill me with much confidence. I do feel we’d do better with Simmo and Willo. Doesn’t mean things shouldn’t be mixed up a bit though, completely agree, just not sure a 50% change to the defense is it. Definitely up for Perch being given a go, but saying that, Willo had an okay game at CB.

Jeff….Who would we knock the long balls to? Does solve the Ba/Cisse issue though, play neither.

Anita may be a good right-back but his height means he could be a liability at the back post.

Definitely a great mid-field player., quality signing … there should have been more.

Oh yes don’t get me wrong, they should be committed, but many of them are not, as it appears in the ba case

i do think team selection is flawed at the moment…what good is good performances if your giving asawy cheap goals and losing by 2-3 goals

the cisses, ba matter needs to be addressed. cisse needs a spell on the bench.

marv is in form and should be playing. i have lost patience with jonas…great that he tracks back and all that but surly attack is the best form of defence and we need someone who can actually cross the ball, nick an assist or goal….do something in the final third…jonas is not good enough for that. maybe lb is a better option for him if pardrew insists on starting him

danny simpson is not a top 4 defender either…too ineffective going forward as well. he’s solid but we need a better ioutlet at rb. too many times the play would break down when he got the ball in the opposition half last week.

i would have the following team start

    santon willo colo jonas

    sammy anita tiote marv

    ba ameobi

the 343 gives the insurance of a sweeper and colo was born for that.

But failing that, we could still put santon to the right and bring in Jonas at LB and perch in for Willo. Thereby you eliminate the non-footballers in the team and it gives us a chance of building from the back although that does seem a bit alien to pardew given the rather damning long ball stats.

Rotonda…Well it is an idea, not sure why it makes me nervous, but the current back line does anyway, so why not give it a go I suppose.

Sorry but I don’t think Colo is mobile enough for a sweeper role.

I simply don’t get how not you’re not willing to put any blame whatsoever on Mashleys policies and lay everything at the feet of Pards, I’m pretty sure Pards would love to have the choice of Debuchy and Douglass, and you make it sound so simple in saying why doesn’t Pards just sign Carr’s recommendations and play them simples, do you expect to stump up the cash himself.

The performances against Fulham and City have been substantially better than the efforts earlier in the season. There has been a greater urgency and desire but individual mistakes in the defence have cost us games.

Whilst many blame Williamson and Simpson (often with some justification) it has been Colo (surprisngly) and Santon who have let the team down recently but in mitigation against City we were beaten by a far superior team whose position in the league is fully justified.

Anita is starting to show why he is so highly rated in Holland. Marveaux has shown that he is very effective in midfield alongside Anita and has the skills to unlock a defence. Tiote is starting to play better after a poor start but is still dithering too much on the ball and is being caught in possession too often. Ba continues to score goals. Krul after some uncharacteristic lapses after coming back from injury appears to be back to his best. Santon is excellent going forward but needs more coaching on how to defend whereas Simpson is good at defending but hopeless at attacking. Jonas has been really off his game and should have been rested. I wonder whether he is in transformation from being a pacy winger to a central midfield player and has left one role but not arrived at the next. Cisse too has been off form possibly because he has been played out of position. He is a goal scorer and plays off the last defender. Bigi looks really good but Sammy and Fergie need major improvements especially Sammy who doesn’t seem to be able to control the ball too well. Perch is good as a defensive midfielder but not so good as a central defender or fullback.

With Tiote off to the African cup and Cabaye and Ben Arfa on the sidelines we need a new central midfielder. Sissoko looks a good bet given his contractual situation. Simpson looks like he is off in the summer so we will need a good replacement. We will also need to add a central defender. If Ba stays I don’t think another striker will be a priority.

I think we will bring QPR down to earth.
