There are reports today that Newcastle are in advanced talks to get Marseilles striker Loic Remy through the door and on Tyneside in early January.
Loic Remy – Newcastle in advanced talks
And it seems that at least one player will go the opposite way so as we had suggested a few days ago it will be a part exchange deal with either Sylvain Marveaux or Gabby Obertan going the other way – and the likelihood is that Newcastle will let Marveaux go as part of the deal.
Newcastle were first linked with the player four years ago when he was still at Lyon, and before he went to Nice for a couple of years before signing for Marseilles in 2010.
We were linked with the player in the summer, but Newcastle didn’t bring in any new strikers, even though we were down the three experienced strikers after letting Leon Best and Peter Lovenkrands leave the club – and that’s one of the huge mistakes the Newcastle Board made in the summer.
Remy has a good record at Marseilles, having hit 39 goals in 95 appearances for the French club, and he would be a welcome addition to Newcastle’s squad.
Remy is a versatile player too as he can play out on the wing, or as a withdrawn striker, and with such an early move for the French international, you have to think that Demba Ba is on his way out of Newcastle.
That’s not good news for Newcastle, that one of our very best players will leave the club in mid-season – when we are in such trouble.
