Newcastle Likely To Do Player Exchange Deals In January

12:42 pm, Wednesday, December 19th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 403 Comments

It’s now fairly certain that owner Mike Ashley will back Alan Pardew in the transfer window that opens on New Year’s day, and it seems that out of favor French International striker Loic Remy of Marseilles is one of our top targets.

mike ashley 987

Mike Ashley – will back Alan Pardew next month

But with so many defensive errors costing the club so many points over the last couple of months, we have to think there’s got to be more than one player coming through the door next month, and at least one new defender.

The Newcastle Journal (Mark Douglas) is reporting today that the manager is attempting to keep expectations down, but that it’s their understanding Newcastle will try to bring in one striker and one defender, and at the same time the club will try to unload one or two of our fringe players who have not made the grade at Newcastle.

And that being the case, it could well be that players like Sylvain Marveaux will be used in part exchange deals, and maybe some other players will be involved in player exchange deals too – to bring in some good new players to Tyneside next month.

It was a surprise when Alan Pardew said he hoped to get just one player through the door yesterday, and if players leave they too will need to be replaced.

But the proof of the pudding is always in the eating, and we expect to see at least one player signed by the club early in January – but who that player may be is not clear to us – but we are still hoping Newcastle can give us some pleasant surprises next month.

What do you think will happen?

Comments welcome.

One step forward two steps back.

    Two players in/Two players out…

REPOST – Your not gonna roll three or four articles out ed are u?? 🙂
    – hotdog // Dec 19, 2012 at 12:43 PM

I know people say one game at a time but if we lose to QPR we have Man u, Arsenal and Everton next!

I have a feeling we will have new players after the Everton game on the 2nd Jan and before Norwich on the 12th. The pressure will be right on Pards if we lose the above games and i can see the new signings deflecting criticism. How long he gets after that is anyones guess but i think he will get the next three Norwich, Reading & Villa.

So Jonas part for Remy deal.. Dreaming

  • 4 numba9 // Dec 19, 2012 at 12:50 PM

prob sell our purples and buy a child to replace them, thought we gained money the higher we finished mike?????

  • 5 nufcusa // Dec 19, 2012 at 12:53 PM

It’s not a step back if you improve your qaulity. The step back is when the two players you sign are worse than those that leave.

We would all like to see 5 players come in but even if we create a better starting 11 then that is a step forward.

  • 6 Transfer Sage // Dec 19, 2012 at 12:53 PM

Part exchange deals are very rare…probably 1% of deals are done thsi way (involvign english sides).

Players might leave but I’m not too convinced on that…the time to mvoe fringe players on is the summer when you have time to reassess the needs of your squad.

Look forward to 3-4 players arriving in Jan.

  • 7 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 19, 2012 at 12:54 PM

Haha, it’ll be like selling Ben Arfa and signing Walcott and then selling Ba and signing Hernandez. I also think we’ll let Marveaux go and get Remy in. We NEED to keep MARVEAUX and BA and buy Remy outright.

  • 8 catchy in norway // Dec 19, 2012 at 12:55 PM

this is a re post from the other day

if you think that this is down to injuries and lack of signings in the summer your mad,,
in every one of these matches below, we should have won the game with the team that played,, it wasnt weak teams that lost the games

also, i mentioned yesterday i find it very strange that everything at the club is set up for attacking football,

    scouts find attacking players first
carver, no 2 to SBR , we played fantastic attacking football under them
    steve stone, AMC
    beardo, amazing attcking player

yet since pardew got here we have played very defensive, looking to hold onto 1-nil leads 🙁
    swansea team
    west ham team
    southamton team
    reading game
    villa game

all these games we had a good enough side out to win the game

what i dont like is he is setting us up for 2 things now,, players leaving, or being pushed
    and losing v QPR

    it stinks

  • 9 hotdog // Dec 19, 2012 at 12:55 PM

I honestly believe a quality centre back would have made all the difference to us this year. Its done now though just hope we can recover as i bet AP is.

  • 10 numba9 // Dec 19, 2012 at 12:56 PM

this part exchange deal is another thing the club can blame when the inevitable happens and deals fall through at last minute, we tried but !!!! lol

  • 12 JARRAMAG // Dec 19, 2012 at 12:57 PM

    No capital expenditure
They have said it enough times and that is one promise they have kept

All that will be spent is what they recoup from outgoings

Ba will go and so will anyone else they can get decent money for( Pardue has said we may lose 1/if they can sell Tiote i think he will be gone as well

  • 13 coatesy // Dec 19, 2012 at 12:58 PM

to be honest, i think this is a good idea. we should get out the scrap bodies out of the club e.g. the likes of xisco, jonas and williamson and part exchange them for better players but i think that we should get a bit more for our money and should strenghen the squad and bring in somemore up and coming talent to play in the cup and the likes of europe so that the first teamers do get a rest to focus on the PL

  • 14 numba9 // Dec 19, 2012 at 12:59 PM

we will not move forward until he sells our club to somebody with AMBITION he obviously has none atall. bad business to move on assets to rivals and replace them with lesser numbers and lesser quality, and bad for the team as we can see

  • 15 danishmag // Dec 19, 2012 at 12:59 PM

is it me, or am i the only one who can see the huge potential Marveaux has?

  • 16 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:00 PM

Part-exchange Williamson with Alderewerield, Simpson with Debuchy, Gosling with Sissoko and Shola with Remy. Sounds good.

  • 17 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:01 PM

Marveaux is a quality player. I’m almost certain that he’ll be leaving in January because Pardew is just not playing him?

  • 18 G // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:02 PM

Danish @ 14, your’e quite right mate. Looks like he is finally over his niggles, and now the club want to move him on? Madness. Some of the rags are stating that the Remy deal involves Obertan, and not SL?

  • 19 G // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:02 PM

    SM even… doh!

  • 20 BelfastMagpie // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:02 PM

You’ll never have a big enough squad, with the one in,one out policy.

  • 21 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:05 PM

I would have him in my starting 11 every game
My midfield for Saturday would be
Tiote, Perch – holding defensive midfielders
    Jonas – central
Anita and Marvo – attacking, creative ru at them
    with one up front
got to be Ba even with his transfer tantrums – cos he is finding the net

If went with 4 in midfield
    Tiote, Perch
    Anita and Marvo
drop Jonas out and put Cisse in

  • 22 danishmag // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:07 PM

though i see some potential in Obertan as well, i would rahter see Marveaux stay, and Obertan leave.

Marveaux is the ACM we need. i think it it obvious.
Maybe Pards is trying not to force him into the game to fast, as he did last season with Ben Arfa. maybe

  • 23 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:08 PM

I’d be happy to let Obertan go. Marveaux is a competely different player. He has a good footballing brain, the best in the whole team.

  • 24 danishmag // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:09 PM

i am glad you agree lads.. and.. pardew must be able to see it too. If Marveaux leaves in january, my big words on Pardew as beeing the best manager we have had since the great sir Bobby, will be taken back.

Part-exchange Williamson with Alderewerield, Simpson with Debuchy, Gosling with Sissoko and Shola with Remy. Sounds good

Yep, sounds great. I bet Simpson, Gosling and Shola can’t wait to go and play in France and pay 75% income tax on their earnings over there 🙂

  • 26 nick_9 // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:11 PM

I think a young centre back and Debuchy or another full back would have made a lot of difference and wouldn’t have cost the world. Signing debuchy might have given cabaye the kick up the behind he needed early on. We have made far too many silly mistakes at the back and they have cost us, most goals we concede out through our own faults and I think someone posted a link to a stat how we we now average a costly defensive error every 80 minutes compared to 200 minutes last season. We all think we need two on three players in minimum so who do we thin might leave? I think the extra one player will be a central defender. Simpson may be sold and another full back brought in, if Ba leaves then perhaps another striker in remy or a more affordable one. Remy seems a tad too virtuous in my eyes even though his current stats don’t impress. All we need after that is perhaps a winger to leave.

  • 27 MacToon // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:14 PM

We’ve needed a centre half in for ages and we let Best and Loven go in the summer and not replaced them then.
We are run on a shoe-string, our club must be making a profit now and for the last 18 months, the bulk of the Carroll money still there (or player trading money, however you look at it) and we penny pinched in the summer and didn’t do enough.

Maybe January is too late to rectify mistakes, I hope it isn’t but for every 3-4 players I hear coming in there’s 2-3 players wanting to leave. Going to be a great Christmas, cheers Ashley.

  • 28 Magpies-till-d3ath // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:14 PM

If we sign one, I’ll cry. If we sign two, I’ll wonder why we didn’t sign more. If we sign three, I’ll be happy. More than three, I’ll be excited!

Current reports from France say that Demba is off to PSG in January

  • 30 hotdog // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:17 PM

TBH – Obertan & Marveaux aint good enough to get us into the top six anyway IMO. I was disappointed with Marveaux’s application against Bordeaux, he strolled around in that game, which is not what you wanna be doing if you want to get into the first 11!

  • 31 Joe Blog // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:18 PM

Give the Smoggies Willo and a couple of million for their Aussie captain Rhys Williams.

Sign Douglas for a couple of million.

Sell Ba for 7.5m, get Remy for 10m.

Outlay of about 7.5m – a measly amount in PL terms – a window I’m sure nobody would complain about.

  • 32 G // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:23 PM

Joe @ 30 +1 on the Willo / Willaims swap deal. Much as I think Willo is over criticised, he isn’t great either, whereas Williams is a cracking little player.

  • 33 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:25 PM

    Sell Tiote for £20m

    Debuchy – £6m
    Alderewerield – £6.5m
    Sissoko – £2m
    Diame – £3.7m
    Remy – £9m p.e with Obertan

Part-exchange Remy with Obertan (£9m total)

    Total outlay = £5.2m

  • 34 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:27 PM

That’s excluding the sales of Gosling, Shola and Ameobi, Tavernier, Wimpson and Silliamson. We’d get a total of £9.5m if we get rid of these weaklinks.

  • 35 hotdog // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:28 PM

Kets – You wont get anywhere near £20mil for Tiote – 10 tops

  • 36 Joe Blog // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:29 PM

He’s what I’d categorise as a typical Moyes buy. Everyone can see he’s got talent, but not many would ‘risk’ laying out money to see if he can step-up to the PL. When he eventually does, after a few seasons he’ll be one of the more consistent good PL players – we’ve seen Moyes do it with Lescott, Jagielka, Cahill, Baines and probably a few more I’ve forgot.

  • 37 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:30 PM

Sign Douglas, Sulejmani, M’Bengue and Boudebouz in the summer for a total of £14m. We’ll have the complete squad then.

  • 38 G // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:32 PM

Looking at him now, I would say he’s deffo capable, he’s been consistent for the last 2 seasons, and Boro’s best player in that same timeframe by a country mile. With or without any kind of swap we should go for him. He’s also very adaptable, can play anywhere accross the back 4 or as a DM, and seems equaly capable in any of those roles.

  • 39 wreker16 // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:34 PM

Don’t let us down now pards and mike, we are all expecting at least three newbies!!!!!!! Preferably, remy debuchy and a centre back, sissoko would be a nice (very cheap) touch as well !!

  • 40 Lee Dodd // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:35 PM

We Need Players for the Europa league. Probably Ship out Nile Ranger on Loan in a deal for Remy. We Need marvaux that would be just Daft. We need to spend at least 10 Million. Also Get Shot of Simpson and Get Debouchey in. He wants to go to london anyway to be with the New Bird.. Word is he is on the X factor next year .. Word is We are in advanced talks with Remy Today so that would be good…

  • 41 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:35 PM

Don’t rate Lescott and Jagielka. The majority of english players are liabilities. Players like Ashley Young, Michael Carrick and Gareth Barry are particularly poor.

If you look at Man Utd whole squad, you can only say that Vidic, Nani, Valencia, Rooney, Van Persie and Hernandez are decent players. The rest are past it, average or poor.

We have better players, but we need 4 more signings to be able to compete with the big teams.

  • 51 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:48 PM

I’d rather have Alderewerield than Douglas as Toby will get us more goals and is a threat from set pieces.

I totally agree that we need to get in Remy, Sissoko, Debuchy etc.

If Man Utd didn’t have Sir Alex Ferguson as manager, they’d be in a mid-table position now, especially with their squad. Teams liek QPR have better individual players.

  • 52 Jail for Ashley // Dec 19, 2012 at 1:50 PM

What a crying shame that we never took advantage of a gilt edged opportunity to build on last seasons success,a 20M net spend, which funnily enough is roughly what’s left over from the AC deal may have seen us pushing Everton,Spurs and Arsenal for that coveted fourth spot,Mashleys lack of investment pretty much proved to everybody but the most stalwart believers in his five year plan that the man has no ambition for the club other than mid table security despite the signing of Cisse last year, the sad irony is that the money that could have been spent on pushing for honours is now going to have to be spent on trying to secure our survival.

Calling all members of the “Three Wise Monkeys’ Faction” previously known as the”Blind Faith Brigade” and more recently known as “The Delusionals”.
Over the weekend shocking admissions by Percy Parsnip have been published. Link to the article on SSN:-
Percy Parsnips reveals that the entire management team were responsible in respect of the great summer no buy gamble – so those who state Percy was let down by Ashley and Dastardly have got their facts wrong. We have an admission from the horses mouth.
Percy Parsnip states that they all agreed they needed one additional player in the summer. MMMMMMMmmmmmmm?
Why then were they pursuing 2 players at least –Debuchy and Douglas. (probably de Jong as well)
This is yet another example of, if you pardon my expression, shite, coming from Parsnip -he cannot even get the basics of his excuses right – no wonder fans are wondering what the hell is going on.

Thats why Man Ure are challenging for the title every season, because Young, Carrick etc are poor. Jagielka is world class, too good for Everton. I, personally, would snap your hand off for Lescott at Newcastle.

  • 61 catchy in norway // Dec 19, 2012 at 2:15 PM

    Piece I papis

I think that last season Man U team was the worst I’d ever seen in the prem and to think that they were seconds from winning the title,

Even this current team this season, there isn’t many I’d take out of there team and swap for ours, RVP, Rodney vanlencia and nani, maybe carrick for the bench

I think santon colo cabaye tiote HBA Anita krul would walk into there team right now

There keepers are poor , only vidic is a good defender I wouldn’t touch the rest, there mid field is a joke when you think they had to get a 36 year old out of retirement to help out, I like scholes but he isn’t the player he was 5 years ago, kagawa hot and cold

What they have is the best manager in the world who makes them believe,

And on that point what is our manager doing, one of his greatest strengths is man management , I’m sure it should be pretty easy to get our lot playing football for him, I carnt think of many games where you would say , yip they tries there hearts out for him today, some of our players don’t look interested , some don’t look fit,

Yes we need a few players, but I think the manager roll should be sorted first,

  • 62 Williamsonsuks // Dec 19, 2012 at 2:16 PM

We will have new players but at what cost? Unless he gets rid of dead wood, 2 or 3 I could mention, and replaces them with semi/proven players, that’ll would be all good. We all know that what he spends he’ll get back or more on what who he sells, basically spending nought with no improvement but a couple of good prospects, and same size of squad. Everybody knows he should have invested when the ball was rolling but it’s to late to be thinking of europe now, unleds we win europa league lol.

Middlesbrough’s bets defender is George Friend…when he signed in the summer he was a CB…boro have him playing left back and he is fantastic.

He is very solid but makes good, well timed attacking runs too, he has good delivery.

Would be very versatile, young enough and just what we need.

Out of all the North East teams boro play the best stuff. They pass and move very well, looked the equals of a strong swansea side in the capital one cup and playing great stuff in the league.

tequila @59. I’ve always worked on the principle that if things are revealed in the public domain they should at least be accurate. If people start deviating from the truth and putting glossy spins on things it will come back and bite you. Even worse is feeding fans with duff information/lies -what is the point.

  • 73 Transfer Sage // Dec 19, 2012 at 2:28 PM

People seem to forget certain comments or games or anything else that goes against what they say.

Pardew said he wanted all these players over the summer….they clearly weren’t happy with the squad as they tried for debuchy, douglas and luuk de jong. You don’t waste that time and effort if you are happy.

Once the window shut I imagine pardew said he was happy to keep the players spirits up. So they knew they were wanted and that they had to work hard to repeat the previous season.

How bad would it have looked if pardew came out and said we were woeful in the summer window and as a result can kiss europa league places good bye.

I really get annoyed when those involved in the PR side cock up the message by not getting the elementals right -or to “mesh” with previous statements -Parsnip is not good at PR -likes the sound of his own voice too much. PR gaffes have followed Parsnip throughout his managerial career – I see no evidence of it improving.

Theese are all big “purple” players we have missed .
    Why is that Pards fault?
Everyone at the club bears their share of responsibility. Ash for not investing., back up players not being good enough, Purples off form injuries.
Constantly dropping all the blame on Pardew makes no sense. Catchy you are not winning the argument on this one only 11% of the blog agree that Pards is the main problem.

So much respect lost for Ba after he slated our football, in which we have sacraficed a fully working 433 style to compensate for his very poor team ethic.

Move on Mr. Demba, thank you for the goals.

Papiss is the better finisher out of the two anyway.

    ——————Ben Arfa——————

Absolute dreamland if we could field that team in after January.

With this team, we can utilise Cabaye to his very fullest of potential. He will find himself in positions reminiscent of that against Stoke last season when we beat them 3-0 at home. His best game in B&W, and probably the best 65 minutes a midfielder put in at any point last season. a great goal and a great assist, coupled with his header, which he scored due to being allowed to be in advanced positions.

We don’t ever utilise our wide players, so why have them? Tiote sitting back will be enough to cover the full backs as he sweeps side to side – his best role, undoubtedly. Look at Manu at home last season. He is best operating just infront of the back four.

  • 123 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 19, 2012 at 3:14 PM

Santon had a good game against City. He was just unlucky with that goal line clearance as he couldn’t see. It was Williamson’s fault for letting Garcia win the header.

Santon did not have a good game against city. To say that proves u brown nose him. Don’t get me wrong, I have my favourites but u cant defend him when he plays poorly.

He has been good this season, but not that game.

Also you have just criticised willo after, I believe, saying he had his best game. A defender does not have his best game when being at fault for conceding a goal proving you said it to try and gain credibility.

What about the yaya pass that split him as colo for the goal. That was both of there faults

  • 126 Blaydon-Toon // Dec 19, 2012 at 3:25 PM

  • 127 Munster Mag // Dec 19, 2012 at 3:43 PM

  • 128 ToonBano // Dec 19, 2012 at 3:44 PM

I am getting the strong urge that this team would be the strongest system to suit Alan Pardew’s predictable line up:

This would only work if when we attack down the left Ba would drift over leaving Cisse in the CF position and vice versa down the right.

Santon loves to get forward and Jonas loves to go back so why fight both? Having 3 men at the back at all times could tighten us up and plug the holes left by Santon marauding runs and Simmo’s incompetence.

    Just a thought

NO real ambition.. Ashley showed that in the last Summer transfer window ..We could have kicked on big time ..but no, lets go backwards .

  • 133 t00ntime // Dec 19, 2012 at 3:56 PM

Having 3 at the back to help with santons defending and Simpsons incompetence?

I understand 100% why people think simmo is a weak link going forward, but defensively he is more solid then williamson and perch (perch is good cdm/cm but awful cb imo) instead of playing 3 at the back why not just have the usual 4, tell simmo to stay with the CB’s and tell santon and jonas to make sure 1 of them is stopping the counter. He doesnt have to stay back but if their RW is like at our halfway line, either jonas or santon shud go mark him (and not both be around their box, probably jonas shud mark him as he isnt as good going forward)
thats just my opnion, and i know no one will agree cause 90% rate simmo as low as williamson (defensively). And last night i even found out people makes lies up to make him look even worse :S

  • 134 ToonBano // Dec 19, 2012 at 3:56 PM

I am as frustrated as anybody seeing them make the same runs and take up the same space as a front two.

But why are our players incapable of using their legs and actually moving….? It isn’t hard. Henry used to drift to the left, why cant Ba? Anelka used to drift to the right, why cant Cisse?

Playing one or the other in a ‘wing’ role isn’t looking good is it?

  • 135 ToonBano // Dec 19, 2012 at 3:59 PM

Feel free to swap Perch for Simmo. I would personally plump for Perch as he is the better more dependable defender.

Doesnt really matter either way. But I think a back 3 at all times is well worth a try.

  • 136 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:00 PM

Online…..A lot has been said of Pardews comments in the public domain of late and I can see why people get fed up with it, there is little consistency.

With that in mind though, why is it people react the way they do when he says we’re looking at getting one in? Why believe that statement?

He might be poorly advised, but he clearly doesn’t want to say we’re going after more players, for whatever reason, expectations, alerting other clubs, not taking further blame? Not saying it’s right, but why do we assume he means only one?

  • 137 t00ntime // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:02 PM

@online guy, have u ever thought that AP said 1 guy so we dont get our hopes up?
If he said “o yeah we are going to sign 5players” and we sign 3 there wud be uproar. But if he says 1player, (knowing we will bring in atleast 1 player) and we sign 3, people will be alot happier, they might say “we cud of done with 4/5” but they will be alot happier than being told we will bring in aload and then we bring in 1.
AP knows just like the rest of us how unpredictable MA+DL are. They say they will back him in jan, but that cud all change, and AP (already recieving hate) wont want to aggrevate fans more.

Remember the summer? “we will hopefully sign cabayes friend”
Everyone thought sweet we are getting debuchy, in the end MA decided not to bid the extra mil, and let AP explain to the fans that we werent getting debuchy (which pissed alot Of people off)

  • 138 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:04 PM

Toonbano…Don’t disagree with the the theory at all, but using the same idea why are they getting in each others way now? They don’t seem to be able to or want to work together, not sure changing the way we set up behind them solves much, sadly. I though about playing Benny (when fit and if not at Arsenal 🙂 ) behind the two of them, as it may be a problem of options, but the truth is they want the same spot.

  • 139 markmac // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:07 PM

We as a club [not MA] clearly dont have the available money to ”expand” our squad, as has been said many times before we need to sell a big player [like the AC deal] to fund any ”big” future signings, so they must looking to swap players who havent done the buisness yet, in hope there replacements will have a instant impact………..
    risky buisness?

  • 140 t00ntime // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:08 PM

@toonbano tbh i’m not a big fan of 3 at the back, but i dont mind trying anything to get us out of this dip lol. Cant see pards going for it though, he seems to like the 4at the back (cant remember us playing with 3/5 at the back whilst having 11men on the field).

  • 141 ToonBano // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:09 PM

Well there is no reason why they couldn’t. I can guess they wont have the instructions to drift wide in a 4-4-2?

So it comes from the manager and coaches. I am 100% certain Ba and Cisse are intelligent enough to do what I suggest if they were instructed to.

  • 142 ToonBano // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:12 PM

My ideal formation wouldn’t be 3-5-2 either but sometimes your formation is dictated by the players you have. Santon is probably the most perfect example of a wing back you could find. And Jonas fits into one by default. He aint quite a winger, he aint quite a full back.

I just think we should try it. When Benny In The Hole is back, that formation would rip teams up!

  • 143 Oldgit1 // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:13 PM

Hi fellow suporters havnt posted since the last day of the last transfer window where I roasted the owner and co, for the lack of transfers and vowed not to return as the guy is a complete idiot. I have zero confidence in this guys ability to run my much loved club. We are now coming up to the January transfer window and reading the posts on here suggest you are all getting sucked into again as I did in jan. Can you all please take a step back with regards to the possible incoming transfers and stop getting your hopes up as you know it’s not going to happen. Ashley had a rare opportunity in janurary but blew it. I have surported the toon for over 50 years and have waited for some major success in that time. Looks like I’m not going to get any which is a sad indictment on the previous and past owners of this club, a club which I was born into.

  • 144 ONLINE GUY // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:14 PM

Pardew stated ” If we loose one player we will get 2 in ”

How about ..not… watering down the squad? and just buying 2 players ..? Top player’s? like Alderwield and Debuchy .

And this part exchange thing that’s been mooted ..involving a deal for Remy …Loosing Marvo or Obertan is weakening the squad further ..

so pissing in the wind again.

    And still making stupid mistakes

Pardew is a yes man ..A good Manager really not being allowed to manage.

Derek Liambarse has a lot to answer for at this club.

And Whilst not signing any top player for
Newcastle United Ashley just went out last week and bought a Casino for ……wait for it, ….

    ********££££ Fifty Million Pound’s ££££********

So next time you hear Pardew saying we have to sell to buy …

NO ..We dont want potential we want the finished article and we want 3 in and no one out

So ..Alderwield will do for starters ..

There is a great Defender Playing for Wigan Athletic just now ..He is Special ..Guess who.

    Fifty million £££££££££’s for a casino ?…

and we cant have a decent center back and full back ? Just loads of Shitty excuses ..Could someone make a log of the day to day excuses this January window .

  • 145 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:16 PM

Toonbano…So not a big fan of Pardews then? Perhaps I’m being naive, but the only reason that I can think that Pardew wouldn’t be instructing something along those lines is that he’s stupid, which I don’t think.

Not saying their national manager is good, as I’m not even sure who it is, but hasn’t this been a common problem with Ba and Cisse, how can you be so sure it’s Pardew and not a player compatibility issue?

  • 146 lesh // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:20 PM

Mr Tuff (@53), have you ever been asked a question by your boss whether or not you agree with appeared to be a fait accompli?

What the hell did you expect Pardew to do when he was faced with the ‘do you agree with our plan’ question fom DL, who will have previously gained MA’s agreeement to his proposal? Tell them he didn’t?

If that’s your belief, perhaps you may change your view when you’ve been faced with such a situation.

  • 147 ONLINE GUY // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:20 PM

I don’t think the plan and his , Pardews, statment’s are said with the intention of keeping our hopes grounded and the press guessing

    1) Ashley – For funding other ventures and not enough for NUFC

    3) Pardew – For being their mouthpiece.

    Is that about right?

  • 150 AwToonnufc // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:31 PM

Personally I can’t see how part exchange solves our problem of having a small squad. But if thats what they’re looking at we might as well just do a straight swap Ba for Remy.
If Ba’s leaving anyway it won’t feel like such a kick in the teeth getting a player like Remy to replace him.
It would also mean Ba’s not playing in the Prem which would also soften the blow.

  • 151 MacToon // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:31 PM

Current value of our squad player by player, interesting some of the valuations:

  • 152 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:35 PM

Online….I wont get in to Ashley or Llambias too much, seems little point really.

I can understand him not wanting to out his neck on the line, but hear what you’re saying. Some consistency would be advised, all he’s really doing is making things worse and putting himself more in the firing line. It is bizarre. I tend to not listen to Pardew about transfers or Llambias and his purple theory either, they will both make their case to Ashley and he will make the final calls, we know it, they know it, why say anything else, neither of them have ultimate power.

  • 153 MacToon // Dec 19, 2012 at 4:37 PM

Ashley’s been here 5 years so this table covers his five years as owner and how much we’ve spent on players in that time.

    Sorry markmac @ 138
“We as a club [not MA] clearly dont have the available money to ”expand” our squad”

I just don’t see it markmac, £36,300,000 on profit in players over 5 years, obviously there’s nothing to spend on new players!

Ba is in reality only worth £7m, to the best of our knowledge.

What’s MA’s debt at Newcastle? Or should that be the other way around? What is Newcastles debt to MA? £140m?

Would you let him sell the whole squad off to go?

Mac…I’ve looked at the in’s and out’s for Newcastle on that site before.

Ready for my spin on it? 🙂

08/09 – First year, more or less broke even with transfers – Would rather not talk about what happened next.

09/10 – Had to sell due to relegation. This was always going to be a heavy sales year, but given the situation it worked and worked well. I would imagine the club took a financial hit at that time.

10/11 – All about the AC money. Happened last minute in the January window, was right to accept it ultimately. Apart from that one sale, we only spent.

11/12 – Spent over £10m of the Carroll money.

12/13 – So far have only spent £3.1m, but we still have another window.

There are two issues here. One, should MA be making more funds available on a yearly basis, no matter what? Whether from personal or club profit?

The second issue is, how much of the Carroll money has been spent and how much more is there?

Personally, I think we have to write off the relegation season in these calculations. We could say, well it’s your club, you f****d up, you pay for it, but probably not realistic. Therefore, since our PL journey started again, 2 and a half years ago, we have spent £41.75m and sold players to the value of £51.8m – so approximately £10m?

Not sure whether the website allows for agents fees etc, which i’ve read in the last year (i think) was around £3m? So £7m of transfer generate funds left. Debuchy & Douglas in the summer maybe?

They have also said about inc wages for the duration of contracts, but that can’t be right in those figures by my reckoning.

So does it come back to we think more funds should be made available from club profits or Ashley personally? As it seems we’re actually not far off from the Carroll money being spent.

Have I spun too much? I am a little dizzy.

  • 162 markmac // Dec 19, 2012 at 5:06 PM

@152 MAC TOON – i know what your saying mate, i didnt study that link but how much did we spend on the ”improvements” on the training facilities etc wasnt that supposed to be a huge amount of the AC money? also the rob dogs that are football agents etc

i rally dont think its about – who comes who stays – 2 out 3 in 1 out 2 in the bottom line is we are going to be no better off com feb, if what pards is saying is true.. we havnt a decent squad now, if what they are saying is true ,- how does it get better
to me things are always black or white( parden the pun) so if we have the same amount of players in feb , how does trhat make our squad any better, or say ash goes berserk and buys 1 , is that player going to keep us up?? -ash has never wanted to spend money on the club since he bought it. his 5 year plan IMO was to recoup his money and sell up , i havnt seen any changes at the club to think otherwise. what this club needs is for ash to sell and move on why does he want to keep it , we need an owner with a bit of ambition and passion untill that day comes forget about watching decent stuff at SJP. it will never happen!

  • 167 MacToon // Dec 19, 2012 at 5:18 PM

My point of the post was that there is money available if our squad needed extra players, that’s all.

It seems that most believe we should have done more over the summer, I’m one of them. Our revenue will be increased by probably £30 mil next season due to the new tv deal money if we stay in the prem, investing say £10 mil in the summer sure seems like a good investment to me but no, we have to scrape through with minimum spend.

  • 168 MacToon // Dec 19, 2012 at 5:22 PM

Go back to the last accounts Ibiza and when the Carroll money was factored in we made a club profit of over £30 mil, without it we had a trading loss of £3 mill (ish).
Those were the last accurate figures we have from the club and new ones this April.

It seems to me that Ashley has done everything to make this club run on a profit and I’d be very surprised if he hasn’t achieved this to date.

  • 169 tequilamag // Dec 19, 2012 at 5:22 PM

Mactoon it`s not even Jan yet, Nobody knows how much will be spent. Last year Pardew said we would not buy anyone in Jan and we got Cisse.

  • 170 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 19, 2012 at 5:27 PM

Stuart….Ambition is a tricky subject. It’s easy to say Chelsea and Man City have ambition because they spend big. What they have ambition for is buying titles. Not knocking it, but it’s not the only form of ambition, nor is it accessible to the majority of clubs.

Do Arsenal have any ambition? I’d say yes, but they are falling short. I do admire the Arsenal model, I really do, and I’d probably be one of the fans who was still saying “In Wenger we trust”. Without spending like the others, it will take more nous and more time, but building a top challenging club, whilst breaking even is a form of ambition. They have also come close to silverware in there 6 year drought. Where have they fallen on their backsides? Defense (now that sounds familiar). Having a strict spending policy is one thing, but occasionally you need to spend where it’s needed and that can be done without breaking the bank, as we’ve seen.

Back to Newcastle. It’s a huge leap of faith to think this is what Ashley is trying to do here and not just re-coup some money then sell and go. Either way though, doesn’t it suit us? If he goes you’re all happy (pending who buys us) and if not, we’re moving towards a sustainable model. For me it’s all about small steps, what they are guilty of is not making some of them quick enough imo.

Will we achieve anything under Ashley is anyones guess, but to say we can’t or wont is shortsighted imo.

Hope that came across respectfully, as that is the way it was intended – not always easy when you disagree.

  • 171 Joe Blog // Dec 19, 2012 at 5:30 PM

  • 173 Tsunki // Dec 19, 2012 at 5:31 PM

Thing is if we don’t spend other PL clubs will, to make sure they have a chance of grabbing some of the dosh the tv lads are throwing around. The ‘consolidation’ ploy ( for Consolidation’ read ‘see if we can get by on nowt’) has run its course. Cue Operation Desperate Catch-Up’.

I expect meaningful transfers in Jan, can’t wait until summer or we may be heading back to our old stamping ground. The Championship that is.

  • 174 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 19, 2012 at 5:31 PM

Mactoon…Well on that point, I agree. There is money to be spent. I also believe they are looking to spend some of whatever amount that is and that they were in the summer also, but under their conditions. Foolish to most, but doesn’t mean we wont spend or don’t have funds to spend.

On the last accounts, do you know where I can find them? Quick google search? It’s well known Ashley wants the club to be self sufficient, even to the point of making a profit, so I’d agree that he has probably achieved that now. As for the extra money coming available from TV rights next season, let’s see what happens then. I can see why people are cynical, but I’ll wait to see before I judge.

Somebody the other day defended Mashleys summer plans by saying that it was because the five year plan was moving to quickly which I found incredulous,if for example if I was given three months to build a house and amazingly managed it in six weeks I wouldn’t stand back and look at it then decide to take out the windows and dismantle the roof just so that it fitted into my three month plan.

  • 190 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 19, 2012 at 5:48 PM

Jail….That’s a good one 🙂 I do think we surpassed what was expected, but I don’t agree that because of that they just took the foot of the gas to wait for the natural timeline to catch up, that is a ridiculous mentality.

What I think they were trying to do, was continue with the plan, step by step, regardless. Now that in itself could be wrong. If you have done better, change your goals. On the other hand, if they had done as planned and got in the RB and CB as well as Anita etc, then I believe we would still have been on track with the plan, but not altering it. That I think would have been acceptable, even though there was greater opportunity.

I think the summer was a balls up. They believed their own press, thought it’d be okay and we’d get through to January, so why cave? Hopefully now they know and will get us back on track.

I personally don’t have a problem with the 5 year plan and not changing it, but they have and went the wrong way with it….hopefully temporarily.

In that respect Arsenal have been ambitious by investing in to a new stadia and also the buying and developing of youth.

In my opinion Ashley has yet to show any sign of ambition.

We were told last season that we had money to buy talented youngsters and we released lots of u21’s and have yet to really buy any young players to comensate for them.

We are truthfully falling short with all aspects of ambition/investment and even in my optimistic days I couldn’t see Ashley ever finding the finance to make Newcastle a top premier league team for now and years to come.

It seems to me our owner has taken inspiration from the Arsenal model but wanted to do it his own ‘Sports Direct’ way.

I think he will realise that running a football club and a clothing retailers is so massively different that he if he continues to avoid investing millions, waiting soley for the right opportunity, he could risk losing a club with huge potential.

Buying a struggling brand from a rival to sell in his shop is not the same as buying a player.

For me the only ambition he has is to be successful in business and for him that success is to turn over a profit every year.

He can only see the 10’s of millions whilst football teams should always aim for the hundreds of millions. That is the difference between growing a club and having ambition and settling for mediocrity which Ashley seems to have done with every decision he has made.

As for investing in Cisse, I think it was business decision, an investment. If you build an extension on a house, does it give the house more value?

A prime example of what I’m saying is accepting Wonga for such a low sponsorship price. We need to aim big to build big to attract big.

That will never ever happen under Ashley. He seems reluctant to give NUFC anything after Shepard ripped him off.

Beattie….Ashley putting more money in would be fast tracking, but does that really make it more ambitious? You don’t think he ever will get there, that’s where you’re perception of no ambition is coming from I believe.

I’m not expecting anything over night or should I say anytime real soon. Would I be happy enough knocking between 10th and 6th for a few years and build slowly? I would and that is achievable imo.

On the youth aspect. Yep, they got rid of loads in the summer and we’re yet to replace them with bigger and better. I don’t know where they are at with is tbh, so let’s just assume the worst?

On Wonga…Oh no, not again. Tbh mate, I have no idea what other options were available, but I’d imagine he’d take the best deal available, are you saying we should have stuck with Virgin hoping a better deal came along at some point?

Joe will like this, but I feel I may have missed something 🙂

  • 208 Munster Mag // Dec 19, 2012 at 6:05 PM

But Beattie, what amazwes me is that the mini accountants are only slowly coming to terms with Ashleys approach. I think we got lucky with a couplem of opurchases and some thought he was just brilliant. I have explained his purchasing policy before and will do so again:

    1. Player like Bigi – Cheap with big potential – we are in like lightening
    2. Player like HBA – injured but good and cheaper than they should be – we are in ( we wont mention the awful Gosling )
    3. Players cheaper than 5mill – we can compete, especially if they are young and we can make money on them
4.The discount buy – we will buy a player who carries a decfent price tag , if there is a heavy discount – eg Cisse.

All this is fine to a point – but as Shearer said, 15 mill doesnt really move the club forwards. Ashley thinks he can buy mainly youth a star players from abroad who are cheap, and therefore invest very little in regular transfers, all the while using NUFC as a advertising hoarding and insulting the fans whenever he thinks it is in any way financially justifiable. He may be good at clearing out the Michael Owens and Co , but when it comes to ambition – he’s nowhere. What is the fanciful 5 yerar plan for anyway. Where is it supposed to get us ? Top 5, top 10? All I know is that we had a chance to invest and he failed the acid test, not for the first time ( think about the frustration here on many transfer window deadlines ) . Sadly, if we go down, Pardew will stay on.

I read a really good article by Martin Samuel the other week regarding team that set out they’re stall for a mid table finish (he used MoNs Sunderland as his example) he reckoned that if a team expects relegation its ok,but any players that expect to achieve more but know the limitations set by their owners it has a demoralising effect on those that want to achieve success. interesting.

  • 215 Beattie25 // Dec 19, 2012 at 6:11 PM

I too would be happy knocking around 6th-10th but I fail to see how under his ownership we have seen any real direction/ambition?! It is ok to say that him spending his own cash is a fast track to success but we are not even seeing anything different from 5 years ago other than a reduced wage bill. Still under achieving, under performing and ridiculed for wanting better.

Pure and simply investment in football is ambition. It doesn’t guarantee success but it does give hope.

I’m not talking about Portsmouth or Leeds investment to bust, but as we all pointed out we are in a secure position with a mega rich owner, a full stadium week in/week out, the most replica shirt sales per capita in the UK and we cannot even match the spending power of Wigan Athletic.

    There is no defending that.

A couple of things as I said before – how come other teams are not facing QPR with trepidation – and didnt have 35 mill ? You can walk fine lines all you like mate, but you dont seem to accept apportioning blame to Pardew, or Ashley when it is patently clear to me, Shearer, John Anderson and any number of fans that the owner is a tight blastard who has no real ambition for the club and the playing side is being run by a man ( whom i still JUST ABOUT ) support, who cannot face down Ba and has wasted much of the season with a wrong formation ( even though he has plenty of decent players ) and has hidden behind plenty of pointless excuses likes Cisse’s issue with Senegal. With all due respect to a reasoned guy, I think you’re having the mickey taken out of you, or else you dont want to slag off any key personnel at NUFC because it makes your summer and pre summer stances look foolish. I gotta hit the road now ( long drive ) but talk later. To the others, am I being fair here?

  • 225 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 19, 2012 at 6:23 PM

Jail…I’ll hunt that article down, seems an interesting read and a valid point.

If you bring in players with higher ambitions than that of the club, what will that result in? Eventually players leaving for bigger and better things.

That will likely happen over the coming years, depending on what the incoming players have been told to make them join. Truth is, without bigger investment what other way is there? If this all boils down to we want it quicker and to be the best, then we’re all going to be left bitterly disappointed….and many already are. But until someone else is willing to throw the money at it, what are we going to do?

Beattie…Do you think the team that got 5th last year (whether punching about their weight or not) was better than the one the year before? I do, therefore I see it as progress, which could be called ambition. He could put together a team of has beens and gone for mid-table mediocrity, but he went a step better, albeit within the same financial structure.

This summer was a monumental f*** up caused by arrogance and lack of understanding. I’ll only know if it his real colours showing or a blip that can be corrected. I seem to remember you saying the summer was our only chance to get it right, you may be proved correct, but I still think that whilst it’s frustrating and not needed, it hasn’t destined us for a future of pain.

I know you’re not asking for vast amounts of money to be spent, but the correct money to be spent – whatever that may be to get players in to take us forward. We are getting there, but it’s slow.

For me, the biggest issue is can we ride it out and will the players.

  • 226 tequilamag // Dec 19, 2012 at 6:26 PM

Hotdaog according to last published accounts nothing has been paid back on the interest free loan. There was a £16mill OD that the club had which was paid off and a cash surplus of about £10 mill was on the books, Since then Cisse was bought so I would imagine that was used up.

I wish people would stop putting us in the same bracket as Sheff Wed,Leeds and Portsmouth,Rangers are in their position because of fraudulent management as for the others they have dilapidated stadia and are not in England’s fifth biggest city,Leeds a city in the same stature as our own share their love of sport with a rugby league club,we are a different entity altogether.

Tequila- so we are servicing the debt. I guess we will have to wait until the next set of accounts but Ashley may well be wanting this cash back sooner than we think.

Christ how many catchys do we have I’m getting confused! And lads your wasting your time trying to rattle Ibiza he is unrattleable 😉

  • 235 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 19, 2012 at 6:38 PM

Munster……Not being rude, but I don’t want to read it all again. I think what I said was there was £10m profit left when you take in to account the last 2.5 years of transfers. Then there were some agents fees etc and threw in a figure of £3m, leaving £7m.

Didn’t say it was all gone, but that there was some of the Carroll money that people keep questioning where it has gone and that I imagine that was where the purchases of Debuchy and Douglas were to be paid from.

    What’s wrong with that?

We’re fearing QPR, not because they are QPR or really any good, but because of the horrible season we’ve had to date and the importance of getting 3 points.

I may not lay a lot of blame on Ashley or Pardew, but I do lay some blame when I think they are at fault. I think you’re a little guilty of being extreme there. Yes, I am pro Pardew in that I don’t think he’s terrible. He has his faults, but some make him out to be the worst ever manager and that is so far off that I find myself having to defend the most ridiculous points at times. To be clear, we can do better than Pardew (as well as a lot worse), but at the minute I’m not sure who people are expecting we’ll get in that’ll do much better, so what’s the point in beating the man?

As for Ashley, I do have some doubts, but I also subscribe to the idea that the plan is genuine, as ultimately it benefits the man. I may be proved wrong and have said so in the past. I will have to take my lumps as and when, in the meantime, I’m happy to make my own judgement and not just jump on a “I’m unhappy, it’s all so and so’s fault, let me grab my pitchfork” bandwagon.

Trust me, when I think I have been wrong, I will say so. This is not a question of me keeping my pride because of what I felt before, I am nothing but a name on a blog to all of you, so that really doesn’t matter. At the same time, the first sign of trouble (caused mainly imo by failure in the summer, but not irreversible failure) is not enough to make me change my mind.

You are being fair to me, have no doubt, this is a debate about opinion, not me personally. Enjoy your trip.

We will sell Ba no question about that. Buy a striker if nobody else shows an interest in them. We will probably sell tiote as well and again buy a replacement if nobody else beats us to a bargain and their club wants to sell. The regime will not spend. The only way we will see success is if we get extremely e lucky with junior signings along the way. No intention to drive for success with small investment. Self sustainable is all the regime wants. The only way we’ll see ambition is if the club is sold to a billionaire with deep pockets that wants success over a nice looking balance sheet. Do not get your hopes up because they do not care one bit if they dash those hopes. They will gamble on staying up then sell high and buy low in the summer. Expect nothing more or you face bitter disappointment. They don’t love the club like we do.

ibiza – yeah no probs with comment- first of all i am a very pragmatic , uncomplicated person. what i see with my eyes tells me what is right and what is wrong.
i dont believe what i read in papers untill i witness it myself. i wouldnt say i am short sighted – far from it . if i had my wish i would get 52,000 people to boycott the ground every week untill ash finally decided to sell up.
what about the team , i hear you ask. – imo by boycotting the ground for a few weeks , in the LONG run the team would be better off , by a new owner coming in and getting our club back where it should be , not fighting relagation for a 2nd time in 4 years 4 YEARS , jeez hes only been here for 5 what else must he do to convince fans he is not interested. what evidence has any one got to suggest we will do anything while he is in charge- none- absolutely nowt. after 5 years in charge there is only 2 changes as far as i can see, and that is we have got a worse team and a worse manager than we had 5 years ago. that is what is important to me, how long do fans want to give this cretin of an owner , who surely can see the state we are in, and still reluctant to buy anyone to help put it right. getting back to ambition- i dont want the earth, i dont care if we win the league couldnt give a toss if we won a cup ( would be lovely though) i dont expect it with ashley, what i do want to see is effort from EVERYBODY yeah him upstairs as well , open his wallet ,let the queen see some daylight for a change, and have a team to be proud of coz at this moment in time they (everybody ) is an embarrassment to NUFC. pards was very quick to ask for our support last week, and we do , but why should we what are yhey doing for us – nothing , fans are not stupid they sense that ash just winds us up at window times , its like he relishes the transfer period- time to put his buisness head on , well i think its about time to put his football head on, if not leave us alone and get some one in who loves the club. by the way i will send you a link of jacks sound cloud if you are interested.

In twenty years of Shepherd and the Halls we managed to accumulate 130M of debt, this about 6.5M per year loss, this includes the building of one of the top stadiums in Europe and the year after of marquee signings and all the money the above mentioned took out of the club,in five years Mashleys has made (according to a post earlier) 36M in transfer profit and greatly reduced the wage bill yet we are still in 130M debt and can’t afford to compete.WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING.

Jail….Heard and appreciated. There are those that do indeed pay out money week after week, year after year and they are on the same page as me. I do understand why you’re all frustrated, I am too, but we just see the problems and future differently. I don’t believe that is solely down to me not paying out £300 to watch games, but I know I’d be alot more p*ss*d about it.

I am hoping for a EL game in Spain as I’d love to watch a game this season, but to visit SJP? £300 wont even nearly cover it mate. Ibiza to London. London to Newcastle. Then the admission, accommodation and booze to drown my sorrows. Ouch. Sadly it’s not going to happen, but I can begin to imagine the pain of it, i do watch the games and whilst not the same, the performances still get to me.

JFA who do you think financed the loss when we were in Championship ? The debt is irrelevant it was covered by Ash, interest free. The plan was to get operating costs in the black which has been achieved. How long do you think we could have carried on with the level of debt we had under Sheperd?.

  • 261 jimmysmith // Dec 19, 2012 at 7:15 PM

We had every intention seemingly of buying more players last window and couldn’t get it done. If anything this window will likely be far harder to get decent players at a decent price (although Remy at 10 seems good if indeed true).

Also if we were so cynical as to get rid of Jonas after all his fine service and recent selfless efforts, I’ll almost certainly lose what little is left of my very bruised and battered faith in the human condition and retire permanently to my bed and assume the foetal position for ever more while ceaselessly issuing low, filthy mutterings about cockney cnuts and fair weather fans.

  • 262 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 19, 2012 at 7:17 PM

I am off in a bit, so wont jump in to any new discussions (or I’ll never get away :).

Stuart….A link to Jacks tracks would be great, thanks.

Without going in to too much detail, we just view or justify things differently. I have had my doubts about Ashley. Relegation season he was the biggest a**hole on the planet to me. Championship season I still had little time for him, but Hoots and the boys made me proud to be a mag once again. First season back I was indifferent. We did okay performance wise, but then he fired Chris (and boy was I p*ss*d) and sold Carroll – back to being public enemy No.1.

Since then I do feel he has learned from his mistakes. I have also realised that selling Carroll was not a mistake, nor the players that have come in since.

Do I think this team is better than the one he inherited? I certainly did, although it’s hard to justify that when they’re playing so woefully at present, but I think that’ll turn around soon.

I don’t believe we will still be talking about relegation at the end of the season, a few wins and it’ll start to look a whole lot better. Arsenal were in crisis last week and now are sat in a EL position. Week by week things change and whilst it could still get worse, I believe it will get better. So I’m not at the point of saying he’s given us 2 relegation battles in 5 years, although he may do. I will revisit this point at a later date.

Ambition…Well you’ve read what I have to say on it. We are a business, so I don’t have a problem with working within our means. I think they are assembling a very good side, it’s can they keep it whilst building it. That is a real worry, especially if they’re going to mess up like they did in the summer.

Given the history between him and the Geordies, I know why many feel anger and don’t trust him, but for me it comes down to protecting his interests.

Jail raised a point earlier about whether he would sell us to someone knowing we wouldn’t approve and that might carry water, but whilst it’s his club, it’s in his interest for it to do well.

What is doing well? We’ll have to pick that up next time mate, stomach is rumbling and must be tended to 🙂

I will say though, that whilst I don’t agree we need to rid ourselves of Ashley, you are indeed correct. The only way to remove such a person is by not giving them your money. People do have the power and they enforce it by boycotting. I’ve done it to companies that I object to, but it only works if the masses are onside, I don’t think they all are at this point. But maybe they will be come Feb 1st and surely one of Ashleys advisers is aware of that and with that in mind, they’d be not just foolish, but complete idiots not to rectify this situation.

    lesh @146.
I can honestly state that I have never been faced with the “dilema” you suggest in your question – whether I agreed with the policy after the policy had been made. Must be some type of unusual organisation that wants to do a popularity contest into their policies -after the policy has been made.
I have been involved in the formulation of policy, submitting relevant evidence beforehand, and I have also written policies.
I support the financial stability efforts at the club and would remind you that Percy Parnsnip is the “football person” amongst the top three. I would have no doubt that he would have input at an early stage in respect any footballing reasons that may effect policy (purely on the basis that the other two know nothing about football).
Your fanciful suggestion that, after the event, Dastardly asked Parsnip for his comments on the policy is just that -fanciful thinking – did it happen -I doubt it.
The point I try to make, possibly not that well is that I suspect the “fingerprints” of the top three will all be found on the policies, specifically if the policies relate to the football side of things. Parsnip is not without fault.

Next accounts should be quite revealing, hopefully there’s a big – (minus) in them from where we’ve spent this January 😉

  • 283 tequilamag // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:02 PM

Mactoon, the Virgin deal was a strange one. All reports at the time said 10 mill a year which the club did not correct. Perhaps one of the things Ashley can be rightly chastised for is making Newcastle a toxic brand for sponsors. Compared to other clubs we do have pretty modest sponsorship deals. Hence why we are stuck with Wonga for 4 years.

  • 288 tequilamag // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:14 PM

Ian, when things are going badly there is always a search for someone to blame. We live in a blame culture.
Sometimes I think the blog blows every little thing out of proportion. It was interesting the amount of people who voted in Eds poll compared to how many people post. If you read the posts you would think there is a large amount of people ready to storm SJP and lynch Pardew when in reality that is not the case.
The blog does have a way of polarizing every issue surrounding the club. Some are just latching on to a bandwagon but many are consistent with their views on both sides. Catchy for what it is worth is at least consistent and in many respects although I argue with him all the time I would miss him if he did the blog walk off.

    Mactoon ,
We really could drive ourselves mad with what can and can’t be spent, but we seem to be in two camps as toward those who think a 15/20M spend this year would have moved the club forward and those that think that not spending and keeping the same players together was the right option.

  • 290 tequilamag // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:19 PM

MacToon. I honestly don`t know. Seems unlikely we would be running up £16 mill costs each month as total yearly income was only £88 mill. My understanding was the OD was a hangover from the Championship season but I would not swear by that.

  • 291 tequilamag // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:23 PM

JFA I do agree that £10 to £15 mill spend on transfers would not be unreasonable. The accounts we have been talking about where for the first year we were back in PL. We almost certainly made a decent profit last year with higher league placing extra time on TV and increased sponsorship.
All of that profit should be spent and some more. You can`t stand still with your squad as inevitably all your competitors invest in new players.

  • 292 jimiley // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:29 PM

We need to keep a perspective about our problems. The same team plus Anita came 5th last season. As long as we keep the faith, Alan will achieve a similar position in May. We are not that many points behind 6th. Why are we panicking? We will sprint up the league when our stars get back to fitness.

  • 293 Toon Tang // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:33 PM

with all chelseas big time passing ball players, they sure do play a lot of long ball front to back shite

  • 294 Ian Toon // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:36 PM

Tequila – I read your earlier posts. It is noticeable that a large number of the perceived younger posters are clearly now displaying uncertainty and nervousness. Whilst the grey beards are constant . I suppose this is human nature and the desire for a scapegoat. Of the people to blame the players have got of lightly. Pardew has largely acted as a protective shield for them as much as the 2 stooges. It is about time our fortunes picked up. Either way you’ll escape the hangman’s noose. Genuinely confident types can always acknowledge being wrong . Let’s just hope you don’t have to!

  • 295 MacToon // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:36 PM

Alot is made of our wages to income percentage and so it should, we must keep on top of the wage bill and never let it get out of hand again however, I still think there’s money there if needed and room to manoeuvre.
I also think £16-18 mill overdraught is about right, not as if we max it out every month 😉
Colo on £60k week is quater of a mil every month and that’s just one player, ok our highest paid atm. It soon adds up.

  • 296 wreker16 // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:38 PM

I disagree, we stood still bought no one (really), while others around us improved.

The team that finished 5th would need other teams of the same standard, they however improved and are racing past us.

I don’t think we will get relegated but we need investment in January to better our team and we need to catch up with the others.

  • 297 Jail for Ashley // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:41 PM

As much as I like Anita he has not had the immediate impact on his own as two or three or faces I think might of,I was going to point out to Catchy earlier who seems to know his football but is adamant that if the same team can finish fifth why can’t they do it again,Man U have won three in a row twice but always understand the need to add two to four good signing’s to the mix getting rid of some deadwood along the Simmo .

  • 298 Beattie25 // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:42 PM

Sorry it took me so long to reply, my internet went off.

So back to the progress = ambition, and of course i disagree.

Is it ambitious to want to ensure that a club the size of NUFC are not relegated again? I’d call that good business.

We did go the mercenary route by signing Sol Campbell to try and improve after promotion and to ensure safety, we upgraded the team that won the championship, barely upgraded it mind you.

Then after the promotion season we stayed up, but at anytime could have been dragged into a relegation battle so the fat man decided to do away with the vocal contingent and invest into players who could maintain our premiership survival (and pay bonuses for doing so), much like the Aston Villas, Wigans and Stokes of this world., and give those players the platform for showcasing their abilities and potentially attracting Europes elite.

Last season we got 5th, by luck and by quality, we pulled it off.

To me the owner looked at the team and thought ‘no need to invest as there is no way this team will be relegated! We might not get 5th, but we won’t be relegated either.’. Well it’s looks like we could be in the bottom 4 for Christmas.

That progression from relegated team to premiership stayers isn’t ambition and you cannot try to say it is.

It is purely good business. Building on success, investment in all areas of the club and aiming to be the best, that’s ambition.

It might not work, but if we all had that mind set man wouldn’t have walked on the moon, a small windy island in the Atlantic would bot have had the largest empire in all of history and Ibizatoon may well be called Dudleyman (or wherever you are from, but you get my gist).

  • 299 tequilamag // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:43 PM

Ian , a lot comes down to confidence. Look how noticeable it was when we went a goal up early against Wigan. Players were closing down with intent and running into space to receive a pass. We looked a different side.
Norwich went 8 games before they got a win and are unbeaten since. They probably think they are Barcelona at the moment.

  • 301 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:44 PM

    Howdy folks 😀

Not really interested in engaging in debate this evening, just popped in to see if we’ve all still got our heads on and if we’re as confident of a win this weekend as I am.

As for speculation about the ins and outs over Jan, perhaps I am reading too much into Remy’s comments but it sure seems that he is trying to ingratiate himself with his potential new club.

And I also expect Ba to leave. Other than that I have no inklings and I wouldn’t even hazard a guess as that is the road to insanity, happy hunting lads! 😀

Also, Beardo, this new persona you’ve adopted is embarrassing. Your intelligence is clearly lacking as you’ve been rumbled in ridiculously easy fashion.

  • 302 Beattie25 // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:50 PM

    I think we’ll go 1-0 down and win 3-1.

  • 303 Ian Toon // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:55 PM

Tequila- confidence and the lack of it ! Always been a mystery to me.
But it clearly plays a big part in being on a winning and losing run. I firmly believe that motivation comes from within so I don’t buy the manager being a great motivator line. Maybe valid at a lower level.
Good to see that Ba’s level of commitment has not lessened despite on-going transfer talk.

  • 304 Jail for Ashley // Dec 19, 2012 at 8:55 PM

    Ian Toon ,
I don’t know what camp you put me in as I am only slightly graying and do not have a beard.I don’t know if you’ve picked up that I am seriously anti Mike Ashley and his sidekick Dirk ,I was slightly disillusioned earlier this year when the birth of my daughter coincided with the birth of my daughter and the signing of Cisse the 3-0 humping of Man U had an affect aswell toward the intentions of our self centred owner, but after last summers transfer dealings,Dirks purple statements and Pards constant lying backtracking statements I am now firmly convinced again that mid table mediocrity and the TV money plus 45k crowds and shirt sales is all he is after.

  • 305 tequilamag // Dec 19, 2012 at 9:05 PM

Ian I think most footballers are naturally confident. Especially in the PL they are playing at a level way above most players. I think it`s when things are going badly you see how well they react to the pressure. Not slagging the supporters who pay their money and go to the games but it is never helpful when you hear thousands of geordies groan at some poor sod who has become the popular fall guy for criticism. Seen it so many times when the crowd get twitchy the players go into their shells. scared of getting the ball in case they make a mistake. Ironically it`s players like Jonas who does not hide when things are going badly who is end up copping it the most.

  • 306 Transfer Sage // Dec 19, 2012 at 9:05 PM

The accounts published are not the be all and end all.

good accountants get paid a hell of a lot of money to hide income to avoid tax. I dare bet there is a lot we don’t see in those accounts.

Not saying Ashley is stashing away 50-100 mil but there will be some money not there.

  • 307 Ian Toon // Dec 19, 2012 at 9:07 PM

Jail- Congratulations . My brother is always telling me how having a child as changed his life and made him less selfish. I do visualise how posters are but I must confess you have largely been a mystery. Your not easy to read; by greybeard I was suggesting wisdom . I can imagine
the euphoria at becoming a father and thumping Man U. I have always seen you as your name suggests anti Ashley. But your consistent and that I can understand. At least at this time. Once Ashley forks out for 3-4 players you’ll want to be a fully paid up pro poster. I least admire DL as I don’t honestly see what he has to offer.
I have never met him but he appears to be a jerk.

  • 308 Ian Toon // Dec 19, 2012 at 9:09 PM

  • 309 MacToon // Dec 19, 2012 at 9:10 PM

It was even suggested you change your name too J4A lol how close was that.

A couple of things bother me a bit about finances at SJP.
Firstly is Ashley’s advertising his other business at the stadium and obviously as shown on the last accounts not paying for any of it. he doesn’t own SD outright, he’s about 80% shareholder so does that mean 20% ish of shareholders are getting a freebee from SJP? Also if we’re that short of money then why don’t we sell the advertising space he takes up with his tat shop? If the “interest” is being serviced on his loan to the club by the free advertising then why not put it on paper and we’ll know where we are then!

Secondly is the club shop and how again his other business is undercutting the price of strips, this again is taking money from the club, how are they allowed to do this?

  • 310 Transfer Sage // Dec 19, 2012 at 9:12 PM

It’s a difficult one groaning. Ou might tut or mumble under your breath but when 52,000 do it then it soon adds up to a hefty noise.

For all I think Jonas needs dropping I admire that he always shows for the ball.

Rather have a player ask for the ball and give it away every time than not show for it at all like some do

  • 311 tequilamag // Dec 19, 2012 at 9:12 PM

TS as far as I know nobody has questioned the accuracy of the accounts, it would be all over the press if Ash was pulling a fast one. Look at Starbucks and the rest.

Star bucks was obvious though. They paid the bare minimum of tax so bound to show up.

Football is a lot easier to hide money in. Have so many more variables.

I’m not suggesting Ashley hides a lot but maybe the way it’s worded or categorised makes it look different to what it is.

Maybe they are totally honest but I can’t think of any business that’s 100% upfront about finances.

  • 314 tequilamag // Dec 19, 2012 at 9:19 PM

MacToon fair points. I am sure in Ash thought he was entitled to get the free advertising but we could have done with the money. Not trying to make out Ash is a saint just trying to sort out the reality from the assumptions.

  • 315 Transfer Sage // Dec 19, 2012 at 9:20 PM

If you think the amount of advertising from sports direct he has.

Stadium name for a while, billboards covering
    the groud.

This is then shown in 100+ countries that have tv rights for the premier league. So every live game and every highlight we see his brand.

Imagine how much that much tv advertising would cost him to have at peak times on tv in that many countries that often…would be 10s of millions.

Sports direct has grown huge amounts since e took over the club and all that advertising has helped insure that he is he only large sports chain in the uk now.

He doesn’t have to pay so why would he? Sports direct is Ashley’s number 1 priority.

  • 316 Billythefish // Dec 19, 2012 at 9:20 PM

TS hear what you say about accountants. Just dropped mine off last week with him, although obviously mine are scrupulously honest(Tequila is a legitimate business expense right?)
Starbucks is a foreign company who were able to dodge the tax by being registered elsewhere. Newcastle are UK based and accounts are published. If Ash was siphoning money from the club the press would have been all over him.

  • 319 Transfer Sage // Dec 19, 2012 at 9:34 PM

Might not be hiding it to avoid tax but hiding it from us so to speak.

Paying the right amount of tax without letting us see how much is stashed in the bank etc.

I still think there is more money available that Ashley spends. I think he spends the bare minimum to keep us safely in the league, so 12/13th and above and he is happy I think.

He knows champions league costs a lot of money so I don’t mind he isn’t her commuting for that. I just think a few smart purchases a year could see is solidly in the top 8 and then have the odd good year where 3-4th could be on the cards

I’m not suggesting fraud at all. In saying he could be paying the right amount of tax (or possibly avoiding some, not evading it) and not being completely up front with the money.

Not hiding it in a legal sense but hiding it in a way that to an untrained eye (ie us) in such a way we can’t see that there is more cash available than he would have us believe.

I think is very naive to think that any business has total clarity with their accounts and finances.

TS I don`t think I am being naive, published accounts are pored over by experts. Accountants will offset expenditure to minimise tax but you can`t hide your income without risking prison. You say your not suggesting fraud but that is the implication of what your suggesting. There are a hundred legitamate reasons to dislike Ash without having to speculate he is pulling a fast one with the cash.
A much easier way to do it would be to charge interest on the loan which would garuntee we would operate at a loss and negate the need to pay any tax..

  • 344 Transfer Sage // Dec 19, 2012 at 10:37 PM

Your twisting what I am saying.

I know fine well from my work it is easy for money to be spread around businesses and their sister companies in such a way that it is difficult to see clearly where everything is without doing anything illegal.

The right amount of tax is paid but things are structures and published in such a way that it is difficult to see where things are without spending a lot of time looking into things with a highly skilled professional for a high expense.

A very good accountant could unravel things more but the media just report what they are given, not a lot of details is used, they just pick out key numbers for articles such as transfer spend and profit/loss.

  • 345 BelfastMagpie // Dec 19, 2012 at 10:38 PM

  • 350 Transfer Sage // Dec 19, 2012 at 10:48 PM

I’ve analysed accounts from a few large companies who have since been found out regarding their finance structure (notably JJB attempting to boost net profit figures by shadily dealing with their asset depreciation a good 4 years before they went under) , if it’s clear to me that it has been done and is possible, then it’s likely a top accountant can do it and do it well enough for it to be very hard to find.
Not saying Ashley has done this of course.

  • 366 Tommyy // Dec 19, 2012 at 11:30 PM

But to shadow the accounts in such a way as to be able to hide money being siphoned out of the club? That would take some doing from what I’ve seen.

Well played Tommy glad u cleared that up hope Ts and Tequila read tomoz and make friends 😉 just reading summer spending for 2012 o. Transfers Newcastle are 16th with 7.85 M Scumberland 6th £25 says it all really

Just heard the news on Caughtoffside that Ashley want’s to
drop our name “The Magpies” and change it to
    The Fat Bustard .

  • 369 tequilamag // Dec 19, 2012 at 11:35 PM

Tommy Presumably JJB were boosting the profit figures to shore up the share price as they would be paying more tax than they needed to otherwise?
Newcastle are still reporting operating loss which makes perfect sense if you want to pay no tax which is where you nice accountants came in.
Can you suggest a way that Ash could possibly trouser some of the Newcastle cash legally without it being obvious in the accounts?

  • 370 Tommyy // Dec 19, 2012 at 11:36 PM

And on to the football talk – Remy I can’t see happening unless Ba is a dead cert to leave.
I’m of the opinion we need 3 in if Ba does go. Replacement forward, Right back and Center Back. So nothing new or surprising there. I don’t think we need a central midfielder, we’re yet to see Tiote, Anita and Cabaye together in the midfield.

  • 371 lesh // Dec 19, 2012 at 11:47 PM

Mr Tuff, maybe it’s not puyying my point over very succinctly and I’d suggest that there’s a strong possibility that Dastardly has made proposals to MA that make him look good and being Pardew’s immediate boss has presente the fait acclompli – in other words, he may have shafted Pardew, stuffed him to an extent where he had no option but to agree.

You will remember Pard’s clear displeasure when the window closed suggesting that the interviewer ‘better ask the board’ why plyers hadn’t come in. His body language spoke volumes. Then, miracle of miracles, he was presenting the complete agreement line!!

Politics Mr Tuff, politics and Pardew was stuffed, hung out to dry by DL…. maybe.

  • 372 Blaydon-Toon // Dec 19, 2012 at 11:48 PM

Tommy I would love Sissoko if we can get him for a snip at £2 m as this would give good cover for Tiote jolly at the ACON … Bigi is a decent player but stil not ready for a full time involvement IMO

  • 373 jeff // Dec 19, 2012 at 11:51 PM

so whats the bet when cabaye returns that pardew will drop anita instead of jonas???

  • 374 Tommyy // Dec 19, 2012 at 11:51 PM

Tequila – From what I read I don’t think tax was the issue, by that point they were beyond tax savings. I agree on the share price however, but I think it was merely a safeguard ploy to keep hold of disillusioned investors for as long as possible. It actually went unnoticed for a while before one of the large accounting firms published an article on it, after doing some substantial digging.
On Ashley being able to take money out legally – very very difficult, beyond my knowledge yet. I’ve read articles and papers on companies doing it of course, but none with the spotlight on it so heavily as a premier league football club would have. I can’t give you a theory without doing the research but I’m sure Ashley could have it done if he really wanted to, but it would be a huge risk and frankly I couldn’t see him doing it realistically.
Possibly by having his business assets aligned, for example if NUFC were to branch out and become affiliated with his Casino investments then it could theoretically be shifted that way but it would be a difficult and sticky process (still doesn’t take it into his personal wealth of course) but we know that hasn’t yet happened.

  • 376 Tommyy // Dec 19, 2012 at 11:55 PM

Blaydon – As i typed that I almost added Sissoko as I think he’s a good player, full of energy. I just think the competition in the midfield is too high to have potential unrest cause by a new recruit (someone senior will have to drop down) especially if we want to play 3 in the middle, if not then a winger is more important as Obertan and Marveaux are finished here in my eyes.

  • 377 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 20, 2012 at 12:16 AM

What the hell is Mark Walters doing to Maiga in that pic?

  • 378 Blaydon-Toon // Dec 20, 2012 at 12:17 AM

I think competition for places is exactly what we require … Tiote and Cabaye are shoe ins for the starting 11 when fit and not suspended but Sissoko would add so much needed quality and make others realise they have to perform to get in the team ! Thank god Anita is now producing some great performances. Not priority I know but given the fact we could get such an accomplished player without breaking the bank must appeal and there is nothing to say we will not sell some fringe players to accommodate …

  • 379 Brutooon // Dec 20, 2012 at 12:31 AM

Get rid of Williamson and Simpson even with NO REPLACEMENT = 10 steps forward!

  • 380 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 20, 2012 at 12:40 AM

Yeah, that would be a good transfer window. Will save us from relegation.

  • 381 Tommyy // Dec 20, 2012 at 12:42 AM

I’d be all for it if he were willing to come and be a potential bench warmer if he can’t oust Tiote, Cabaye or Anita. To be honest I’d rather see him take Tiote’s place, i’ve been disappointed with him this season, and last season he was injured and AFCON aswell as some poor performances. Yes he has his days when he is exceptional but they are becoming few and far between.

  • 382 Blaydon-Toon // Dec 20, 2012 at 12:47 AM

I think it would be some decent business depending on price to sell Tiote bring in Sissoko and use money to invest in debuchy and a quality CB

NUFC after Ajax’s 21 year Midfielder

  • 387 Sav // Dec 20, 2012 at 1:43 AM

Marveaux has a history of niggles and muscle injuries. He had it before he joined NUFC and that’s the way it has been since. We can’t afford the luxury of another Dyer talented but forever on the treatment table. If Marv and Gabby leave and I’d not be sorry to see Gosling go, too, we could see some decent defenders while not wrecking the wages budget.

  • 388 petey // Dec 20, 2012 at 3:01 AM

i heard the reason Ba wont sign a new contract is because Ashley refuses to accept a clause that says he gets his goalscoring bonus paid in strawberry syrup.

come on ashley, pay the man.

seriously though, offer him 95k a week or whatever it is and sell him straight away in Jan so we don’t get release clause prices.

  • 389 89Norcal // Dec 20, 2012 at 4:45 AM

Ready to pull the trigger on a stack of FUT Loic Remy’s, that way I can sell him to you lot for a profit when he’s in a Newcastle shirt 🙂

    Really hope it happens.

This the way I see this, MA has already became a joke of the year this season by giving AP massive x yrs contract. I believe MA has big ego and he will try to back AP as much as possible to prove he didn’t make a mistake by giving him massive contract. I believe we will see more signings this January. If not and we got relegated with AP as the manager, MA will become the joke of decade.

I guess for the Europa draw this afternoon we want to avoid benfica, Lyon, Rubin Kazaan and lazio.. Which doesn’t leave many, but I guess everyone will want to avoid us as well

  • 396 obatoyou // Dec 20, 2012 at 7:58 AM

    You were being sarcastic right?

  • 398 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 20, 2012 at 8:33 AM

    Good morning,

It’s the EL draw today, right? Anyone know what time?

Stuart…Angry face first thing in the morning? When I can, I will, but maybe you should be taking your own advice and not spending the money rather than getting me to spend more 🙂

Yo…A 3 month calendar! Of course! How could I forget?

Beattie….No problem, I know all about cr*ppy internet.

I really didn’t make the point I was trying to. I have re-read my post and notice it does read as me saying that progress alone equals ambition, which is obviously incorrect, ambition would come before the progress, so progress doesn’t equal ambition, but is used as an indication that ambition is being fulfilled (or you’re being really lucky!).

You’re assuming that there were never plans to purchase in the summer, meaning if they invest this January it would be to ensure we don’t get relegated. No that wouldn’t be ambition, but as I’ve said before, I don’t think that was the whole story, but it’s pointless beating it to death, they failed in the summer so we can only ever guess as to whether they were just flapping their lips in the summer with no intentions of paying out any money.

Can you elaborate your point about “Then after the promotion season”. Why have you likened us to those teams in particular? What about the Evertons of the league as an example? For a newly promoted team he made good noises when we got back in the PL and has so far taken each step pretty well, except for this CB and FB we’ve needed for a while now.

When does any team not finish where they do by a combination of luck and quality? Of course luck plays a factor, some will say you make your own and that’s fine, but it is still there and is an important factor. I guess what you’re saying is we punched about our weight?

I agree with your assessment. I think they were arrogant this summer. Hell, we got 5th with this lot, some of the youngsters are knocking on Pardews door to get games, the players we want aren’t coming at our prices right now, we can afford to wait and see. That was wrong and they’ve hopefully realised that, but that could be just that a mistake in an otherwise ambitious plan.
Not the ambition you’re craving Beattie, but a form of ambition of growth, but I recognise that it has it’s limits and am not suggesting this method will make us champions or anything, but somewhere in and around Everton, Arsenal, Spurs which I believe to be possible.

I know it’s seen as a step back from the 90’s, but Ashley had f.a to do with that, we were in decline before he arrived and imo this is a means to get things back on track again.

Is it as bad as you sometimes make out? One or two signings back in the summer and you’d likely never have had your change of heart again and in the scheme of things two signings isn’t too hard to put right. I feel with MA that it doesn’t take a whole lot to open old wounds with the fans, so he really needs to keep Del Boy on track.

That is if he gives a flying monkeys …..

Europa draw is on at 2 CET which I guess is 1

Truth is the best we got greedy and took two mill for Best wen he had the potential to score 10-15goals a season, we could have bought Bassong back for 2.5million in summer and put our noses up, going back a bit we could have signed long for 3-5million instead we signed obertan someone’s not doing their jobs…..
