News in the Daily Mail today that Newcastle may be after another Dutchman at Ajax, and this time it’s 20 year-old Dutch Under 21 international Jody Lukoki, who has been at Ajax since 2003, and he plays as a winger.
Jody Lukoki – 20 year-old Ajax winger
Jody Lukoki was born in November of 1992 in Kinshasa, Zaire, which is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and it’s no secret that Newcastle scouts have been watching a lot of Ajax games over the last couple of seasons, and with Vurnon Anita now starting to come through at Newcastle, the news is we could be in for the youngster in January.
It’s the first time we’ve been linked with this player, who can play on either wing or as a withdrawn striker, but we find it strange that Newcastle would go after another winger, when we have more than enough at the club, and the defense is really where we need good players coming through the door next month.
Lukoki made his debut for Ajax back in January of 2011 against Feyenoord, and he has so far played only 11 times for the club with two goals, and eight of those appearances and his goals have come this season.
Newcastle may have an interest in this player but he’s hardly a priority in January, with a striker and a defender being the players Newcastle will try to get through the door to strengthen a weak looking squad this season, which has been decimated by injury and poor form and has only 14 points from our first 17 games, and that’s compared with 27 points at the same time last season. đ

Comment #2Anyone know anything about the lad?
Whilst we need in defenders as a priority, we need to be ready to get in someone to provide options if Ba goes. If that be a Remy or another attacking winger that’s fine by me.
At some point we need another ST as we’d have Cisse, Shola, Campbell and Ranger, which let’s face it, isn’t really that inspiring at this moment in time, but with an attack minded winger i think we’d do okay for now (I’m doing it again I know, but I’m not sure how realistic 4+ players is, I’d think not at all).

Comment #6Be a good signing. We DO need a winger as HBA needs to be player centrally in midfield or as a wide forward. Jonas and gabby aren’t at the grade we need just now. Get this lad signed up.

Comment #9Also reading that te Daily Fail are reporting that big AC has told Liverpool he wants to come back to us now he knows he has no future at the club. If we were offered a swap with he and Ba – what would people think?! I’m sure they would want more money as well but think they are realising now they are going to take a huge loss on this lad.

Really hope not
AC has looked so poor since leaving us and seems to be heavily injury prone not to mention we dont get decent ariel service in to the box really dont see what he’d bring to the team other than high wage demands which are unjustified think AC is on something like 80k a week if he got that here then would of rathered we gave that to ba atleast he can score!

Comment #12Bambi is little more than an “impact sub” at best. He cannot really be classed as a “Striker Option” as he’s good for maybe 20 – 30 minutes, on a good day. Ideally he needs putting out to pasture to allow Campbell or even Ranger to come through.
Our defence needs major improvement, which, if provided, will have a huge influence on our midfield, allowing them to concentrate fully on their own jobs. This in turn should greatly benefit Cisse and Ba (or his replacement) by providing more opportunities to the forwards.
All great teams build from the back!!

Comment #13Ed how many times man, we have 17 points from 17 games, not 14. I wish someone would
Correct him so he stops putting it, 17 is bad enough without fans thinking its 14 :/
Quality wingers? Just what we need but not at the expense of our defenders. Most important areas covered please first Ashley and then we will worry about the other areas over the come ten seasons eh? Like Matt said we have plenty of wingers but no quality, hba is good there but he isn’t a winger and after that its slim pickings. Obertan is frustrating but has potential and the same goes to marveaux. Sammy and Shane are nowhere near ready and need sending out on loan. If we lose a winger then fair enough get another one in but for now please focus on an area we are short in and that’s at the back.

Comment #14Andy Carroll? No thanks. Williamson and Simpson would have a field day, perfect excuse to go long and would cost at least ten million which he isn’t worth.
Best results at the weekend for us would be a win against qpr, Chelsea to beat villa and Liverpool and Fulham to draw. That would take us to 13th and a win away from the top half of the table

Comment #18Since Jonas went off the boil, we have no decent winger and apart from occasional cameos from Ferguson, no-one (Obertan, Marveau, Jonas, Sameobi, Amalfitano) to produce consistent end product. Further, neither current fullback can cross a ball.

Comment #20Yes of course Ed. finally agree with you.
Why would we employ another winger, when we already need to get rid of some.
Defense is where our main need is, just more media bullshit!

Comment #21Not this Carroll BS again. We don’t want hoof ball and there’s a reason why West Ham don’t want him either.

Comment #22Agree with others, how do you figure we don’t need a winger? I see LW, CB & RB are biggest needs, in that order. We should be playing a 4-3-3 again. Cisse shouldn’t be on a wing. Ba won’t play there & wasn’t very effective there last year. Marveaux is a question mark and Pardew doesn’t want to start him. Obertan & Jonas have no final ball. Sammy isn’t ready.
