Newcastle Argentine International Target Allowed To Leave

Anderlecht’s Lucas Biglia may be a Newcastle target, but we’ve never covered the news that the Magpies have been interested in the Argentine defensive midfielder. That’s not to say Newcastle are not interested in the 26 year-old 7 times capped Argentine international, who has also been drawing interest from Arsenal and Norwich City.

Lucas Biglia

Lucas Biglia – Anderlecht’s Argentine defensive midfielder

Lucas joined Anderlecht as a 20 year-old from Independiente in Argentina, and he must be a decent player to have played for the full Argentine side, and also for the Argentine U17 and U20 sides.

He’s played 141 times for Anderlecht in the Dutch league and scored 8 goals and stands 5’10” tall, and in total he ‘s played around 186 times for Anderlecht with 11 goals over the last six seasons.

Anderlecht’s General Manager Herman Van Holsbeeck has said the club are willing to let their player leave the club in January:

“We have not formally received an offer for Lucas but we know that his agent is making moves in the transfer market.” “Biglia has two and a half years left on his contract and we would only consider letting him go if we receive an offer of €10.25M. He won’t leave in January for a penny less.”

€10.25M is around £8M and there’s just no way Newcastle would pay out that kind of money in January for a defensive midfielder, although we’re sure Anderlect would love to receive that kind of money for their Argentine International.

The 26-year-old has also received some interest from Real Madrid and AC Milan, and so he must be a decent player if that’s true, and he was linked with a move away from Holland in the summer, with Arsenal rumored to be really keen at the time.

We’d be very surprised if Lucas joins Newcastle next month, although we do need some cover for Cheick Tiote, who is off again to the African Cup of Nations next month for six weeks or so.
