Reports Newcastle Agree £10M Fee For Loic Remy

9:23 am, Friday, December 21st, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 28 Comments

There is news in the Daily Mail today that Newcastle have agreed a £10M fee to bring Marseilles striker Loic Remy to Newcastle in January – and with the news recently that the club were in advanced negotiations to sign the player and Alan Pardew saying he was a definite target yesterday, when he said  “that’s a situation we are looking at” –   this news could well be true.

William REMY _df

>Loic Remy – on his way to Newcastle?

Alan Pardew rarely says which players Newcastle are after, and if the deal is done it would explain why the Newcastle manager was so open about the French International striker in yesterday’s press conference.

The 25 year-old French striker is presumably involved in a player exchange deal with Sylvain Marveaux said to be going back to France, and it will be interesting at what value Marveaux is tagged at – with Sylvain having joined Newcastle last year as a free agent.

The former Nice and Lyon forward has scored 37 goals over the last two seasons, but the Mail are saying that frees up Demba Ba to leave – but we need another top striker whether Ba leaves or not – as we only have three experienced strikers in the ranks at the moment.

If Newcastle could get say £3M or £4M for Marveaux that would be good business, and if this deal comes off it will be the second January in a row that Newcastle have brought in a striker worth around £10M.

We only hope that Remy makes the impact that Papiss Cisse made at Newcastle when he joined the Magpies last January.

We think this news could even be true. :D

    So ED,

Pardew was talking totally opposite. if what you or the mail is saying come s out to be true. then its 1 in and 2 out.

    Go Figure ;)

Really hope so but will wait for a more official announcement instead of the daily fail!
Also thought it was being reported as 10 mil in euros plus a player (suggested to be marv or gabby)?

    Torq
So m’bwia maybe? Would be a cracking signing like, not the finished article but a couple of seasons next to colo and he’d be one of the best in the league! Hiw would everyone feel about signing him given his stepping stone AC milan comments??

    Blew – from previous post

Llambias will have had a solicitor involved in contract details.

Ba will only have signed a contract with a release clause (after feeling hoffenheim let him down and having to force a move, wont be caught out again).

We needed a striker, our main target was cisse, he was too expensive so we wanted a decent player on a free. I believe Ba saw us as a short term move and I think NUFC saw Ba as a stop gap until cisse game in.

His lacks of goals in the second half of last season cost him a move, thats why he wants to play central now, to get goals and ultimately his big money move, fiar play to him just want management to be stronger and firmer with him, put the team first, and if we get remy then he wont be able to have as much power over us.

Tads…I’m sure everyone would love him if he goes well, but when his time comes to go he’ll be a greedy son of a b*tch. Cynical? Moi?

I think we need to be realistic. If we want top players they are going to be ambitious….use them while they are here but if they want to move to a bigger club let them, cash in and use that to sign another few players.

It will be annoying to see our stars leave but hopefully over 3/4/5 years we will build a team they want to stay in.

Look at how spurs have flourished after selling carrick, berbatov and modric

Furious until he plays well then happy as Larry…then back to furious when he pushes for a leave and of course finally bu**ers off

Actually am not that fickle wasn’t bothered when he said it tbh though going to AC isnt as much of a pull as it was it’d say

    Anita or dembele?

    Who would you choose

  • 13 TorqToon // Dec 21, 2012 at 9:35 AM

TADS – That was the very first comment I made to my friend at Montpelier!

And all I will say is I’m not sure the exact translation was accurate. He was asked about the ‘big’ clubs throughout Europe, Milan included, and he responded in a positive manner to the reporter to remain respectful to all of the clubs, however I don’t believe the ‘stepping stone’ idea was put across by him but more a combination of bad reporting and ‘allegedly’ his agents trying to push for big money from a Milan side who had just pulled in around £55m from the sale of Tiago and Ibrahimovic !

    Ibiza
Im already sharpening my pitchfork and he hasn’t even signed yet!!!

    Sage
I said last night, do you remember when we signed ba? The reports were he was on 30k with performance related bonuses? Do you think that could be a big factor in why he is so insistant on playing centrally rather than angeling for a move?

  • 15 Jail for Ashley // Dec 21, 2012 at 9:38 AM

If Remy comes in and Marveaux goes out then unless Ba stays we can’t really say that we have strengthened, same as defence if Debuchy t comes in for Simpson again we may have improved but not strengthened, for us to really say we have had a major boost to the squad we need LB/CB (pieters ) a RB and CB and Ba and Marv to stay, would happily loose Simmo and Going though and see Obertan and Willo replaced in the summer.

  • 16 markmac // Dec 21, 2012 at 9:39 AM

Transfer sage – talking good sense mate, im sure nobody at nufc would have expected Ba to be as much of a success as he has been, and even a few goals last season from him as a ‘free’ would have been acceptable let alone 16, or thats how i see it anyway

  • 17 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 21, 2012 at 9:40 AM

    Sage
True until we hit a consitency we run the risk of loosing our top lads!

    Torq
True its always hard to get the full story buy the time the local rags have translated it to fit there story!

    Wwycd
We’ll chase him out of toon the mercenary!!!

  • 18 TorqToon // Dec 21, 2012 at 9:41 AM

Jail – I agree. We need to retain players as well as upgrade and improve what we have. Given that Simmo may well see out his contract and leave, should nobody come in for him in the January window, then he would be a decent player in Europe and allow us to play him and fergie whilst retaining santon and ‘he who shalt not be named’ in the prem.

there was are report out that when ashley took over vowed never to have goal bonuses in contracts again as he was sick of the site of oba martins shooting from 40 yards just to get a few extra quid in his months pay.

I think Ba is wanting a central role to get goals and then a big move for his 80/90k a week he is meant to be after.

  • 20 Colo-Sus // Dec 21, 2012 at 9:46 AM

Just wanted to point something out:

That’s not Loic Remy……..Who is that?

    Ed…..

  • 21 Sinner // Dec 21, 2012 at 9:46 AM

I seriously dont think its Loic Remy on that picture!Silly Ed :D

  • 22 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 21, 2012 at 9:47 AM

    Sage
Aye but then barton said how they were trying to get all the lads to sign perfomance bonuses as to where the club finished etc.
Ba may not have a goal scoring bonus but maybe a performance bonus which who knows the club may have said in the summer you havent been performing aswell in the second half of the season
I just dont think its as simple as its all on one side

  • 23 TorqToon // Dec 21, 2012 at 9:48 AM

It’s a Lens player I see that! Defo not Remy! :-)

  • 24 JAMSHA // Dec 21, 2012 at 9:51 AM

BBC Radio Newcastle Total Sport Pardew was speaking to Mick Lowes – matchday comentator
As I said previous blog last night Pardew said he hoped to bring in 3 players and said that a player (forward) had to come in before a player (Ba) left .
And a journo from a top French sports paper was being interviwed the night before about French players on the move and commented that the President of Marseille was in England

  • 28 kenzie // Dec 21, 2012 at 2:00 PM

@hadtheshirt- yes my friend you are right. So to reiterate what was posted this is NOT Loic Remy. It is William Remy, 21 year old defender who plays for Dijon.
