There is news in the Daily Mail today that Newcastle have agreed a £10M fee to bring Marseilles striker Loic Remy to Newcastle in January – and with the news recently that the club were in advanced negotiations to sign the player and Alan Pardew saying he was a definite target yesterday, when he said “that’s a situation we are looking at” – this news could well be true.
>Loic Remy – on his way to Newcastle?
Alan Pardew rarely says which players Newcastle are after, and if the deal is done it would explain why the Newcastle manager was so open about the French International striker in yesterday’s press conference.
The 25 year-old French striker is presumably involved in a player exchange deal with Sylvain Marveaux said to be going back to France, and it will be interesting at what value Marveaux is tagged at – with Sylvain having joined Newcastle last year as a free agent.
The former Nice and Lyon forward has scored 37 goals over the last two seasons, but the Mail are saying that frees up Demba Ba to leave – but we need another top striker whether Ba leaves or not – as we only have three experienced strikers in the ranks at the moment.
If Newcastle could get say £3M or £4M for Marveaux that would be good business, and if this deal comes off it will be the second January in a row that Newcastle have brought in a striker worth around £10M.
We only hope that Remy makes the impact that Papiss Cisse made at Newcastle when he joined the Magpies last January.
We think this news could even be true.
