Cheick Tiote had a decent game today but was again outshone by the play of Vurnon Anita, who is coming on in leaps and bounds at the club, and his corners and free kicks into the penalty box today were simply superb.
Cheick Tiote – in action this afternoon
And Cheick unfortunately picked up yet another yellow card, which means that he will miss the game at Old Trafford next Wednesday.
It was a bit ugly but it was a win nevertheless today – and it was a terrific strike from Shola Ameobi that got us all three points this afternoon.
The game was played between two very nervous sides, but in the second half Newcastle started to get on top and a wonderful effort form Shola Ameobi wrapped up a precious three points for Newcastle who now have 20 points from their 18 league games – which sounds a bit better.
This is what Cheick said after a game in which it was a massive three points for Newcastle:
“Everyone was not nervous but focused on the game and everyone did their job,” “That’s why we got the three points.” “And the confidence will be higher now, and for the next game against Manchester United that’s important.”
“I think it was a good performance from everyone today. We knew what we had to do going into the game because of the results in the last two matches.” “This game was an important one because we have two big games against Man United and Arsenal so today it was important to win.”
“And that’s what we did, so everyone’s happy. We played well as a team and we won the game.”
Cheick picked up his 5th booking of the season on 63 minutes and will miss the game at Old Trafford, so we would expect maybe James Perch to take up the defensive midfield role for that game – which we have little hope of getting anything out of – but you never know.
It wasn’t a great game for the purists today – but it was still a precious three points for Newcastle. 😀

perhaps they’re not refreshing the page hoping to get into some kind of endless internet skirmish with you
my thoughts:
boring game, qpr BY FAR the worst team in the league.
something is not right with this squad….beyond the questionable tactics etc…..pretty sure it rests with Ba and Pards. Agree with toonLYF, Ba is on the left or on the bench. He’s gone anyway, why appease him, Alan? Mind-boggling, really
still, relieved and ecstatic with the win. keeps our heads just above water for the next onslaught of games that, frankly, we probably won’t take much from, if anything.
great three points today, even if it was boring as all hell to watch

Comment #4Good win today against a really awful side but goodness knows why Marveaux isn’t starting. This should be the team vs. Manchester United:
Krul
Simpson – Williamson – Coloccini – Santon
Anita – Bigirimana – Perch
Marveaux – Cisse – Obertan
Subs: Harper, Tavernier, Ferguson, Gutierrez, Sa. Ameobi, Ba, Sh. Ameobi

Comment #5I haven’t seen it on tv yet, at the match it didnt seem too bad. I though we played some good stuff in defence and midfield, just had nothing in the final third. It was an important three points, and now we can push on and suprise ourselves with some results in the next few games.
And yes, qpr are by far the worst team in the league. Which is really strange. ‘Arry has them well organised at the back, and on paper they have a very good team, comfortably high mid table I would say, but they are a team full of individuals. I really hope they go down.

agree with that line-up 100%
don’t like anita being our only attacking threat from MF, but, Pards deems Abeid not ready and we don’t exactly have any other option

a) being eased into the team after injury
b) having to prove form before becoming a more key player

Comment #8or, should’ve said i don’t like anita being made to be our attacking threat.
the fact that this is the first time in his career he’s had this responsibility on his shoulders and he’s still thriving says a lot about him.
still waiting to see a consistent run of tiote and him behind cabs in a 3 man midfield. hopefully the new year will bring that

It is strange why he isn’t playing.
I can only guess as to why it is, but I think he is either not working in training, has a bad attitude, or it’s his defensive side. He will need to defend when we don’t have the ball, and from what I’ve seen I don’t think he is very good defensively.
Anyway, we don’t know the reason so it’s only speculation.

we bossed the game but there was so much sloppy passing it was unreal. from both sides, however they were alot sloppier than us. we looked quite comfortable on the ball just seemed to have few ideas when it came to the final 3rd. lack of spark/creativity. anita was trying but jonas perch and tiote are all far to defensive to have any real impact going forward. plenty of posatives to be taken IF lessons have been learned

Comment #12Funny – I was expecting QPR to be lively up front and cause us more problems – but to be more fragile at the back. They certainly kept 8 men behind the ball and started time-wasting practically from the kick-off. Thought Ober did really well – some good runs and one covering chase back to thwart the winger was superb.

would like to believe that, but there are just so many unfathomable other calls pards makes on a week to week basis that i cant believe he has that much foresight, especially seeing how dire we were during that last little ‘blip’ of six losses in seven matches

read an interview with Marveaux two weeks ago with ESPN
can 100% say it is NOT him having a bad attitude. If i were him i’d be throwing a fit by now at worst or at best trying to find out clubs who were interested in me in January. He’s taken everything on the chin like a model pro
