The news in the Newcastle Journal this morning is good, and it says that Newcastle will go after three players in the January transfer window – a right back, a center-back and a striker.
Mike Ashley – willing to invest in January
The inside information is that Newcastle are confident of being able to announce one new player on New Years Day – and certainly if we can get players like Mathieu Debuchy, Douglas and Loic Remy through the door in January we should do quite well in the second half of the season.
And the club sensibly wants to bring in players early in January, and that’s good because we’ll be losing Cheick Tiote and possibly Shola Ameobi to the African Cup of Nations in South Africa in early January.
And it seems that Newcastle could get Loic Remy in for just £8M, and that’s a lot less than the £12M Marseilles paid Lyon for the player two years ago.
And it seems that Remy has told Newcastle he would be happy to join the club and bolster the French contingent on Tyneside, and that’s at odds with reports yesterday in London that he was holding out hoping that Spurs would come after him.
And Mike Ashley is willing to invest money in January to bring three good players in – and of course the owner is well aware of the increased money available to PL clubs starting next season, from the TV deal the Premier League secured for the next three seasons, and it’s really big money for the clubs in the Premier League.
To get that money Newcastle need to ensure they are still in the Premier League next season – and that to us is the most important thing to accomplish this season – given where we are at the moment.
