Pardew Praises Obertan And Marveaux

12:13 pm, Sunday, December 23rd, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 185 Comments

All three of Newcastle’s second half substitutes yesterday helped turn the game in Newcastle’s favor over those last 30 minutes – Shola Ameobi scored a wonderful goal to win the game, Gabby Obertan made some threatening runs down the left wing – and Sylvain Marveaux showed some terrific skill and was only inches wide of a post with a great free kick from  just outside the box.

gabby obertan newcastle

Gabby Obertan – looked sharp yesterday

Alan Pardew has already said that Shola saved his Christmas, and Alan also had some good words to say about the two Frenchmen after the game:

“It is difficult for me as manager of such a big football club to express how important it was to win this game.” “The players have brought a feel-good factor into the dressing room and they deserve it. We have done better over the last four or five games and today we got our rewards.”

“I felt we had better option on the bench for this game.” “Sylvain Marveaux has looked a lot crisper, while Gabriel Obertan gives us some pace and is positive.”

Sylvain has been linked in a player exchange deal for Marseilles striker Loic Remy in Jnauary, but maybe Newcastle need to keep him,  since he seems to be coming into some good form for the side, and after all – the lad’s had a lot of injuries over the last couple of years, and only now does he seem to be entirely injury free.

It’s good to have Gabby back too, because he gives speed and skill tio our side, and it’s something we need at Newcastle right now.

Both Frenchmen deserve their praise from the manager after putting up a good show once they were brought on yesterday.

Comments welcome.

I’m Shola’s biggest critic, but fair play to the man, that goal was a class finish. It could be worth £60m at the end of the season.
    He has made my Christmas.
    Happy Christmas to you all.

Good post Novo! Al the best to you as well.
The 3 subs made a massive difference, they all looked composed and totally changed the game.

Hello lads not been on for a while great win yesterday its lovely to see old saggy mush getting beat and moaning about his massively overated and overpaid players not getting what he thinks they deserve because hes the manager now personally cant stand the man but all this talk about demba ba and loyalty hes been totally loyal to us up to now hes just like 99% of every other player he just thinks he deserves more money and hes right look at rooney £250k a week and not at the same level goals wise as ba is granted he’s not worth that much but is definitely worth what hes asking for and as for his “dodgy knee” expectantly ready to blow up that could happen to any professional football player at any time so that cant be an excuse I hope he stays maybe he has to go because him and cisse cant play together well its gerard and lampard again for england play one or the other but not both it depends on the opposition and I think pardew knows that but you have to play the in form forward where he is best and cisse is not there this season but just wait till we get benny and cabaye back then you’ll see both players flourish like last season and I don’t think pardews got it wrong with the two players so far so fingers crossed he stays and we will see merry xmas everyone and all the best for the new year HWTL

  • 5 ToonBano // Dec 23, 2012 at 12:29 PM

Yea the subs won us the game.

The thought of starting those attacking, creative players never entered his head though eh? Making the result a lot easier and entertaining all round. 90 mins of quality instead of 15.

  • 6 bottle // Dec 23, 2012 at 12:31 PM

“Marveaux has looked a lot crisper”
Interesting choice of words. I reckon it means Pards is making a lot of demands of Marv in training to get him up to EPL form and stamina. Marv says in the French article he found training hard coming back so I think the club are just trying to get him to a level where his fitness and toughness means he is less injury prone.
Might be why he is more likely to get 30 mins than 90 mins just now and why he has tended to disappear in games earlier this season. He just wasn’t fully match fit and they were worried he’d have a recurrence of his injury so bring him in slowly (like Benny last year).

All those slagging off the management take note – there is usually a simple explanation that isn’t a conspiracy

  • 7 BelfastMagpie // Dec 23, 2012 at 12:31 PM

    Start them next game !!

  • 8 SupaToonKid // Dec 23, 2012 at 12:31 PM

Well then you know what to do then Mr Pardew… start Obertan & Marveaux

  • 9 Slank // Dec 23, 2012 at 12:31 PM

Marveaux probably did more in his brief time on the pitch than all the other players, possibly except Anita.

Marveaux should play alongside Anita together with a defensive midfield player be that Tiote or Perch.

Marveaux is the only player at the moment who is left footed who can play in the middle of the park. Playing there he has shown that he has the skills to get past an opposition player (or two) and has the vision and accuracy to pick a pass to a colleague.

He should start against ManU together with Anita and Perch in midfield with Obertan and Jonas on the wings with Ba or Cisse upfront.

  • 10 bottle // Dec 23, 2012 at 12:34 PM

The idea of tactical substitutions is that they actually do change the game. They did and we won, so what’s yer beef ?

  • 11 Dannyo // Dec 23, 2012 at 12:44 PM

I’m no grammar nazi mate, but if you want your posts to be read, make sure you use the various punctuations and breaks needed in a post to make it more readable.
I just cannot make out what u’re wanting to say atm.

This is just constructive critisizm tho, and by no means am i trying to “come down” on u.

  • 12 Slank // Dec 23, 2012 at 12:47 PM

    Fostino @ 2

Tiote will be serving a one match ban against ManU.

    Team should be:

    Simpson – Williamson – Colo – Santon
Obertan – Anita – Perch- Marveaux – Jonas

  • 13 croftus5678 // Dec 23, 2012 at 12:51 PM

yep loving marv atm but in honesty he has never had a full good 90mins so maybe he does need a little more motivation.
ober again showing what he’s only shown in euro games so far and thats that he is a winger who can cross ! which in honesty is what we do need.
and shola seems to be getting better if only he could have done it sooner.
shola/ba strike force for me >.< i'm sorry i really want cisse to be my number 9 and he is a great player but the other 2 are…sorry no way of better wording it …."better" and i know how well cisse played but i would prefere ober/arfa on the wings and cabaye/marv central.

  • 14 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 23, 2012 at 12:57 PM

    Santon Perch Coloccini Gutierrez

    Tiote Anita

    Obertan Abeid Marveaux

  • 15 JDdubai // Dec 23, 2012 at 12:58 PM

Marveaux should be playing the Cabaye role in a 3 man midfield, just behind the CF. Anita in next to Tiote, at least then we have 1 destroyer, 1 creative player and Anita ion the middle.

Playing Perch and Tiote kills the team, added to that having Jonas on the wing increases this sadly.

Jonas wouldnt be so bad as long as we have other outlets like Obertan and Marveaux but when Jonas is the most creative of our midfield, thats when it goes tits up.

  • 16 BarcelonaMag // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:11 PM

I don’t see why we can’t try a front three of Marveaux, Ba and Obertan. At least they seem clear about what to do and work hard at it. For whatever reason(s), Gutiérrez and Cissé just aren’t producing. They could be kept on the bench as a just-in-case. It might wake them up a bit.

2.(n) -A depraved individual who sits in front of a computer all day and posts flames of an idiotic or pseudo-intellectual nature on public forums and private websites. Many of these people actually become emotional about what is said on the afore-said mediums and feel it is their duty to punish those who disagree with them.

    And specifically:

    Toon Blog Troll

    1. Any supposed supporter who thinks that the team losing or certain players getting injured is in the short or long term interests of the club.

    2. Any supposed supporter who repeatedly posts unrealistic and unachievable lists of transfer targets and slags off the management or owners when these do not materialise.

3 Any supposed supporter who repeatedly predicts we will lose against all opposition but particularly top performing sides and then posts ‘I told you so’ comments justifying slagging off management inadequacies when we do actually lose. This category is aka an ego troll

    Take your pick

  • 19 Slank // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:14 PM

    JDdubai @ 15

    Totally agree.

Jonas is fine when he plays on the wing because of his link up play and defensive duties with Santon. But to use him instead of Marveaux in midfield is a mistake.

Marveaux is the nearest we have to Cabaye. He plays well alongside Anita provided there is a defensive midfield player behind the two of them.

I think Obertan has earned his place against ManU. It’s also his old club and I’m sure he will want to impress.

I agree with you about Ba/Cisse. It’s either one or the other but not both especially away from home.

  • 20 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:17 PM

Marveaux deserves to be in the team every week, even when Cabae returns. I’m a fan of Abeid. He is our most promising youngster.

  • 21 proudtobageordie // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:20 PM

pardew knows BA is of in jan. for the next couple of games give cisse a chance in the middle and see if he can reproduce his goalscoring touch. he is an out and out striker not a right winger. think of this: if you have the worlds best cheff in your restaraunt and you make him the soux cheff what a wast of talent right. what is the differance with Big Pappiss Cisse?

  • 22 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:22 PM

    Ketsbaia9 @ 20

I think Bigi is our most promising youngster. He looks very comfortable and assured when he has played in the first team.

As good as Abeid is he is well down the midfield pecking order. He needs to be farmed out to another team to get regular games.

  • 26 GeordieDan // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:25 PM

    What a surprise!

All the usual negative, “Pardew out”/”its all a cockney conspiracy” moaners are nowhere to be seen today.

I must have got my Xmas wishes early this year. 😀

Pardews tactics and substitutions worked to help a very nervous Newcastle side get the 3 points we deserved.

I bet that really hurts some of the pathetic whiners on here. Never mind though eh, shame you’ll have something positive to endure over Xmas!

Merry Xmas to all the fantastic REAL supporters.

  • 27 proudtobageordie // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:27 PM

I think it is not unreasonable, as Kets points out, that Ba could be playing for PSG.

PSG have the money and ambition. Ba is French and his home town is Paris (I believe).

Have you even read my blog more than once?

Since when do I make claims as to making unrealistic signings? Since when do I just claim we are going to lose and then have ‘told you so’ attitude once we do? I dont even know what the first thing you said means, anyone?

I am assuming your making reference to my latest post about not expecting anything from Man U or Arse games. Not a bold claim is it?

Plus when I say we should be signing European class players to make us a European class team. What exactly were Cabaye and Ben Arfa like? Lucky breaks. Or this football club signing top players?

Have a good read around my blog before you label me with assumptions.

    Pardew Out

I know what i did this and last summer

  • 32 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:34 PM

Abeid is a better prospect than Bigi. Pardew only plays Bigi as he signed him himself. Carr signed Abeid. Pardew also favours Obertan over Marveaux. Marveaux and Anita are the ball ball distributors in the team.

  • 33 GeordieDan // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:36 PM

You talking in riddles for a change?

  • 34 proudtobageordie // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:36 PM

Bigi has got potential class writing all over him. Oitty i couldn’t say the same about Abeid

  • 35 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:36 PM

I also believe that Obertan was a Pardew signing. Alan has his favourites. Gutierrez has struggled this season. I remember when he made his debut against Man Utd in 2008. His pace was frightening in that game. He was taking players on and should’ve had a penalty. He seems to have gone like Michael Owen.

  • 36 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:37 PM

Start with Marvo Anita and Obertan against Man-ure
Three small quick men running at their defence could cause them a lot of problems.
Got nowt to lose – play one up front
    Simpson Coloccini, Williamson, Santon
    Anita, Marvo Obertan
    Cisse, Ba
Bring Shola on as super sub

    Me too.

I think PSG have the money to buy who they want without the need to do swop deals.

I think Ba would get the money he wants with PSG and we wouldn’t have to face him in the premiership. I think Pardew and the club would accept PSG’s money as it probably solves a problem with Cisse.

  • 40 croftus5678 // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:42 PM

agree on abid he’s a good player but far too average atm he definatly needs to be loaned out for a season or 2 before he gets any place bench/euro spot in the team.
and i think the same bigi and cambell are our most promising and prob fergie/tav.although i think all but bigi need some loan time.
and i really hope you right on ba and that he goes abroad if he does go.
on the maybe upside though remy looks well suited fast good header and good on floor and allways hungry for the ball from what i’ve seen.
i think we need a nolan/gerrard like captain though in the new recruits maybe looking at anita he may be able to do the job.

Yes I agree that there is an argument saying that Pardew favours Bigi because he bought him. It happens with all managers but Bigi is, as proudtobageordie says, class written all over him.

I think you may be in a minority of one on this issue.

  • 46 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:49 PM

Abeid has represented Algeria at a high level. Bigi hasn’t made an appearance for Burindi. I do however think that Bigi has got a better attitude and that’s why he’s getting in ahead of Abeid.

  • 47 jayphoto // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:51 PM

Lots of talk in Paris that HBA advisers are offering him around! Its PSG hes heavily being linked with though! They’ve also enquired about Cabaye! Personally think we all look at Benny with rose tinted glasses, he looks amazing on the eye when playing but in truth his goal and assist return do not represent a 25m player! Europe and France particularly has a lot of players similar, that can go past 3 or 4 players freely but don’t have the consistency to create key passes, assists and goals regularly! Boudebouz is one that comes to mind! The thought here is that Newcastle will deal for HBA at 18m

  • 48 jayphoto // Dec 23, 2012 at 1:56 PM

Kets, if Abeid is so good, why could we not find a championship team that would take him on loan and play him?? The reason he stayed this summer because only league one and two clubs offered for him and the club wanted him to play at a higher level! Not saying he doesn’t have ability, he has potential, but his tactical and positional play is very very poor

  • 49 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 23, 2012 at 2:01 PM

His positional play is the best part of his game. He’s never out of position and is a solid player. He’ll be a £10m plus player in the future.

Jonas needs to play like this:

  • 50 Conaldo (The Wizard...Also Bestest Friends With Paul Scharner) // Dec 23, 2012 at 2:02 PM

Jayphoto – agree re his goals etc.

I think that may be more due to consistency. Due to the way he plays he is always going to pick up injuries from stray tackles etc that will mean he missed chunks of seasons. if he can play a full season, I don’t see any reason why he can’t score 20+goals per season.

  • 55 bills-son // Dec 23, 2012 at 2:17 PM

Just read that nonsense from MacDonald about team spirit being a big problem at the Toon. Utter rubbish.

If that was the case we wouldn’t have put in the spirited performances that we did at Stoke and since then. We might not have been great to watch but there has been no lack of effort or will to win. Defeat after defeat, which we’ve suffered of late, is a killer if team spirit is low. The Southampton game was the low point but since then credit to Pardew and the players for massively bucking up the effort they are putting into games.

It seems – hopefully – that Ashley has realised his mistake of playing too hard ball in the summer and is hell bent on bringing players in early on in January. If we get 2/3 in and get HBA and possibly Cabaye back we can still have a decent run and finish in the top 8.

Last word on team spirit – if anything is affecting that it has to be the saga with Ba. Him and Cisse together will never work IMO and although in a perfect world I’d love Ba to stay I hope he finds another club in Jan. This circus situation with the clause every window is a joke and in any event we need a striker with pace who can run the channels. Neither Ba, Cisse or Shola can do that – Remy can. Him, Cisse and HBA up front could be sensational. Mark my words!

  • 56 jayphoto // Dec 23, 2012 at 2:29 PM

Think we played well yesterday, Redknapp really parked the bus, QPR played for 0-0, were compact and only taarabt seemed interested in going forward, we did well to break them down!
Not a Pardew in or a Pardew out guy myself, I’ll support whoever is in charge, but if im honest, i think Pardew has done incrediblely well, hes really never been backed by the board in terms of transfers, nor was Hughton, Kinnear or Keegan! We’ve not had a net spend of over 10m since allardyce was manager, give any other manager only 5-10m a year and i think that team would plummet! Our injuries have been bad this year and a few of our players have declined, Jonas and arguabley Colloccini are slower and less consistent than last season! Fair enough if pards spends 25m and we fail then sack him but he’s not had that backing!

  • 57 Transfer Sage // Dec 23, 2012 at 2:36 PM

Pardews team selection has been too negative for me but he has a reason.

Some managers look to play their way our of a slump, pardew is more cautious.

We are missing our two most creative players, lost a lot of games and shipped goals

Pardew is trying to make us solid, make sure we don’t concede then try to get a goal.

It’s not that pretty but as this moment in time points are the most important thing.

I think we should be attacking more but as long as we pick up points that’s all that matters for now.

  • 58 Magpies-till-d3ath // Dec 23, 2012 at 2:43 PM

do you really think HBA can be replaced? Give your heads a shake!

Does he score enough goals or get enough assists? No, but I don’t put that down entirely to him. Put Hazard or Mata in our team and see how their form slumps from less than positive tactics and inferior players

mark my words, unless THIS season gets turned around and we are consistently fighting for a top 5,6 spot, it will be another decade before we have someone as talented or entertaining to watch as HBA.

I can honestly say he’s one of the only players who has thoroughly entertained me since Shearer retired

i think everyone except Bottle who seems to be a blind proponent of anything AP does is finding it hard to understand why Marvs isn’t getting a game.

have stayed off this blog for a few weeks as I got a bit fed up with the cyclical nature of making a point only for it to stripped and turned out a thousand times. It is nice to see some of the ‘O/V’ ( 🙂 ) guys starting to come around. Never thought Tsunki would be at that threshold. It’s a matter of seeing the crap laid before you, week after week, and how some can still be so vociferously supportive of the imbecilic decisions he (AP) makes is baffling. You don’t have to call for his head just because he’s a crap manager, but come on, at least admit the obvious

  • 61 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 23, 2012 at 3:01 PM

Abeid is better than most players in the Man Utd midfield. I’d rather have Abeid than Cleverly, Carrick, Anderson etc.

  • 62 Kris // Dec 23, 2012 at 3:14 PM

Last season, Gutierrez was terrific, but this season he has been poor from the beginning. He has been slow, he isnt working ass hard ass he always has, he is stoping up the speed in our attacks, so it was so good to see Pardew take him of yesterday.

I think its unfair that Marveaux hasnt got so many chances (especialy when Gutierrez has been so poor, and when HBA is out) cause I think he as been great when he has got the opportuinity in the last. Was also good to have Obertan back in the squad. I think the speedy frenchman has been very good when in the Europa League. I hope Pardew will be more fair ahead, cause Gutierrez hasnt deserved all the time on the pitch as he has got this season.

My team agianst the Red Devils:
    Simpson, Perch, Coloccini, Santon
Obertan, Anita, Birgimana, Gutierrez (Need to be a bit defencive)
    Shola, Ba

(Dosnt think many of you would agree with me, but Cissé hasnt been goal-threatening this season and Willo is so slow.)

  • 63 nufc90 // Dec 23, 2012 at 3:20 PM

    Simpson Williamson Coloccini Santon
    Anita Perch Jonas
    Marveaux Cissé/Ba Obertan

Man Utd defending hasn’t been great this season so the pace could stretch them and who knows. We can’t just sit back and soak up against
    Van Persie, Rooney, etc

  • 66 GarethNUFC // Dec 23, 2012 at 3:43 PM

The Man U Swansea game this afternoon has showed that the big physical defenders like Jones Vidic and Evans struggle against small illusive players like Dyer and Routledge. We should therefore be starting Marveaux and Obertan to play through them as long balls as per our normal tactics to big men up front won’t cut it this time around

  • 67 nufc786 // Dec 23, 2012 at 3:44 PM

  • 68 Papiss9 // Dec 23, 2012 at 3:45 PM

United are not in their best form atm. I’m hoping we can go to old trafford and not be afraid.

We should play our game and really go for it. If a team is on the backfoot against united at old trafford, you’re gonne lose. It’s no use trying to park the bus for 90 minutes.

    Looking forward to the match!

  • 71 chuck // Dec 23, 2012 at 3:48 PM

Not that sure whether Obertan is going to become a regular starter, has pace, but thats about it.
Whereas all Marveaux needs is game time.
Is it going to be the same as Santon and HBA, where he sat them for the most part of a season ?
How can you expect players to improve or show what they can do by sitting them?
Marveaux was a good player before he came to this club and deservws to start.

“Robin van Persie is lucky to be alive. It was a disgraceful act from their player today and he should be banned by the FA. Robin could have had a broken neck.”

Marveaux needs to start the next game instead of Jonas.

It looks like he can take a decent free-kick too….unlike Ba whose 2 free kicks within 5 minutes of each other went about 20 yards over the bar..

I doubt Pardew and his coaches have a plan for corners and free kicks, as we never seem to score from them nowadays.

  • 86 ToonBano // Dec 23, 2012 at 4:12 PM

    Hazzy – Many thanks, appreciated

Bottle – Well that makes sense as none of that fits towards myself.

Comment #10 however my beef is that out of those subs that came on, at the very one of them should have started given the lack of creativity we have without Benny and Cabaye.

Praising AP for starting with a over stacked defensive team, which he then inevitably brought those subs on, is flawed against a team as bad as QPR at home.

If he did it against Man U at Old Trafford and stole a 1-0 I would be the first to congratulate him. Trust me

  • 87 bottle // Dec 23, 2012 at 4:14 PM

I’m not actually much of an AP fan and I do not know how you could possibly read that into my posts. More a realist. He is probably a slightly above average manager but still has to prove last season was not a one off. Jury’s out.

This blog used to be a reasonable place for a bit of banter and some good old fashioned arguing about footie. In the last six months it has been taken over by trolls.

The constant Pardew out trolling is just plain stupid.
Wanting us to lose, wanting players injured.
    Fans maybe supporters no.

Football is much more complicated than the quick fixes our trolls seem to want.

The big lie technique is where you make an outrageous statement and repeat it loudly and frequently. Toon Trolls are real good at that.

  • 88 bottle // Dec 23, 2012 at 4:20 PM

The point is that Oba is just back after an extended absence and Marv is clearly not fully match fit. Perfectly good tactically to use them as impact subs.
See post 6 for why Marv might be being brought in slowly and think about Benny last year. Loads on here wanted him back in much earlier. These guys are thoroughbreds not carthorses. I do not blame AP for being cautious with players coming back after injury.

  • 89 toonLYF // Dec 23, 2012 at 4:28 PM

    Team for Man U imo…

    Sammy Am
    Shola Am

Yes Marveaux does deserve to start over Jonas, but Guti’s defensive workrate will be needed here more than ever, Marv to come on for Ober/Ba/Cisse.

  • 90 ToonBano // Dec 23, 2012 at 4:47 PM

I agree about Obertan. But if he wasn’t fit he would be on the bench. He could easily have started that game and be brought off on 60 mins with the game safely in the bag. Or at least in a winning position. Then the water carriers bring the win home.

I fail to see this belief that Marv is not match fit? Where has this come from? Have I missed something? He played the full 90 mins vs Wigan (was motm) and then played on the Thursday in Bordeaux. He should have started vs QPR in the absence of HBA and Cabaye.

How can you not agree with that? How can anyone. The fact we had no shots on target at half time and Marv created a goal within 3 mins of coming on was not a coincidence.

If he had started the game their is no doubt we would have created more chances and probably won that game a lot easier.

I do agree with his sub of Shola for Cisse thought. Cisse is struggling. Shola only plays well from the bench….he’s a strange lad.

  • 91 mattyNUFC // Dec 23, 2012 at 4:53 PM

obviously you haven’t been on this blog long 🙂

there are blips of decent conversation, but most of it is cyclical arguing

think i’ll be off this for awhile, but any defence of pards at this point in time is pretty ridiculous in my opinion. despite all his resources, he is still managing to cock things up habitually

as toonbano said in his blog, the best we can hope for is that he improves HIMSELF. MM may have been pretty hyperbolic in his hypothesizing, but I think it’s pretty obvious there are ALOT of our players growing jaded more and more each week.

regardless of whether you like ba or not, see a future without him or otherwise, you think he’d be harping for a move if we were where we were this time last season? not a chance. if we finish lower half of the table, i really can’t see an outcome where HBA and Cabaye, possibly others, stick around while theyre coming into the peak of their years. i don’t think you can blame that on the EL or injuries either

  • 92 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 23, 2012 at 5:03 PM

even in the wigan game marv was non existant for 20-30mins and i do believe not that he is not match fit but that he has a motivation issue as he never looks knackered more like bored when he has a dribble and losses the ball.
and manu are a lot more disaplined than us i would not say better players but it would be unfair to say abied is better.
i’m not for or against pards as i dont think houghton should have gone but for me every fan at this club should be wanting him to become the next fergie and not want the club to fail in any way the same with all our former and future managers (excluding souness 🙂

Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City have better squads than Man Utd. We’d be level with Spurs in terms of starting 11, but we really need to secure the signings of Remy, Sissoko and Boudebouz to be able to compare ourselves with Spurs.

I can only say that Van Persie and Vidic are the only two whom would fit straight into our first team.

This is why Sir Alex Ferguson is the best manager in the world. He has a poor/average group of players whom play extremely well as a team. We have better players whom haven’t performed to their expectations this season.

Well diggler dogs good result yesterday. Only problem is, I think we could have a gem on our hands… This new lad ameobi really could be the one. He is agile fast, and with a bit more dribbling I think we could have our very own cristiano ronaldo?

Kestbaia , go choke on a fat ONE will u! Rooney banged 34 goals last season and has a good record for Man U at ONE in every TWO games. Demba ba is a good finisher just a shame he has a knee like my good friend gus weatherly.

“I felt we had better option on the bench for this game.” “Sylvain Marveaux has looked a lot crisper, while Gabriel Obertan gives us some pace and is positive.”

But I chose not to play them because I saw a midfield three of Tiote, Anita and Perch as our winning game plan !!!! Pardwho you are the complete tool.

    Toon Bano

I do not believe Marv is fully EPL match fit at present. Most of his games have been Europa. I think he is being brought into the starting 11 slowly to see how injury prone he really is.
He has blown got and cold for us this season so far though I agree has massive potential for us if he is in overdrive on a regular basis. I think its also a bit of a confidence thing with him after his last year or so with us. Strangely I do trust Pards to bring him in so he’s a regular starter, and we do surely need more creative options, so we agree there.
I’m less sure that AP has got his man management right with Cisse and Ba, especially if the rumours about Ba are right – cos that’s when we are really going to need Cisse firing on all cylinders. But its a tough call.
I don’t agree with your simple arithmetic on Marv’s three minute impact so think what he could have achieved over the full 90. Football just doesn’t work like that. He was brought in as an impact sub and he had an immediate impact. Problem solved. We won.

  • 173 Rake // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:06 PM

    @ AndyMac

I think Pardew set up defensively with players he can trust to do a good job keeping shape and protecting the back four. The game plan to win the game would be then to bring on Obertan and Marv for pace/ creativity.
Pardew speaks about resilience a lot and i think that’s why he set up defensively. You may think it’s overly cautious, right or wrong but we got the 3 points let’s hope he backs the defense abit better in the next game and plays Marv or Obertan but again going away to United it will probably more of the same. Try and stay in the game then Ober and Marv on late i the game.

hahaha kets your a funny guy
carrick trophy cabinet is 4 PL 1 CL 4 COMMUNITY SHIELDS 1 LC and a FIFA WORLD CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
Mehdi Abeid has 23 senior appearances and played badly in nearly everyone and Carrick has been first name on Alex Fergusons team sheet for years and an instrumental part of all the trophies hes won
hmmmm who would I rather have??

  • 175 Brutooon // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:50 PM

    1) Start Shola and Demba Ba up front
    2) Midfield consist of Perch and Anita middle and the wings will be marveax and obertan

Can anyone tell me what team we were playing, when Solano took a freekick inside the box and tricked them into relaxing, thinking the ref had paused the kick, then turned quick and scored?

  • 177 lesh // Dec 24, 2012 at 12:21 AM

“……Sylvain has been linked in a player exchange deal for Marseilles striker Loic Remy…..”

There’s no way it’s gonna happen, there’s no way Remy’ll pitch up.

It’s clear there’s likely to be repeat of the summer’s lack of activity, the sellers pi$$ing us about – or so Llambias would have us believe.

December 24 and Sturridge’s due for a medial at Liverpool and all set to turn out for them in January’s first game.

And us? we’ll still be phartarsin about on 31 January and signed, and signed, er….. any ideas?

  • 178 lesh // Dec 24, 2012 at 12:23 AM

    * Sturridge’s due for a medial at Liverpool … er a medical even!!

  • 179 JP...from The Rock // Dec 24, 2012 at 12:38 AM

Pardew spot on again in his assessment of both players. Notice how he says ‘Obertan is positive’, he too realizes that Obertan is attacking defenders, playing with confidence and playing without fear unlike his team mates that love passing the ball back or over the top to eventually lose possession.

  • 180 Honoured2BNUFC // Dec 24, 2012 at 12:48 AM

Kets stop being a f###ing imbecile you irritating tw@ you clearly live in some deluded little bubble.
In terms of Marv, Pardew did exactly the same thing with HBA after his comeback from injury.
Really annoyed with some posters Saturday, hoping for injuries and losses, your supposed to support your team through thick and thin. I’m as unhappy as the next guy/gal with this predicament we’re in. We Have To Persevere.

Good one joe blog. Sure you’ve heard the one about Buddha at the footy ordering a hot dog. He asked for one with everything.. That was only half of it tho, he paid with a fifty and stood munching away waiting. He asks wheres me change mate? The dude in the stall says, change comes from within my son!

  • 184 gonufc (up and Hatem) // Dec 24, 2012 at 4:21 AM

@Ketsbaia – Again, I’ll ask it: How many full matches have you seen Abeid play? Also, who were the opposition?

Did you see carrick play against Swansea today? He played some fantastic passes. Intelligent and incisive passes.

May I ask how old you are please? I don’t want to be rude but you speak as if you think real life football is just like it is on a computer game.

I had a friend when I was younger (about 11/12 I think) who insisted Beckham should be played up front because when playing “F.A. Premier league Manager” (I think) he scored loads of goals playing up front.
This is how your vehement endorsement of Mehdi Abeid comes across.

….And, Rooney has played largely in midfield this season as RVP is the main striker and even in a deeper role Rooney drops even deeper! Though I don’t think this is suiting him anymore, he needs to be far more aggressive and direct.

  • 185 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Dec 24, 2012 at 9:20 AM

Read most of the above just now and some of it is just pure dross!

The Swansea player who kicked the ball at Van Persie was just trying to clear his lines ! There was no intent there, the word accidental comes to mind !

Van Persie, of course, being the arrogant Twot that he is, milked the whole situation as much as he could ! Ferguson just tried to get as much Media attention as he could because they had just dropped 2 Points ! So he was pissed off!

Beware the back-lash on wednesday at their place.

Anita should be starting alongside Marvaux in every game, no arguments needed ! Please grow up, some of you!
