Reports That Chelsea Will Bid £12M For Ben Arfa

9:49 am, Sunday, December 23rd, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 89 Comments

There are several reports out today that London club Chelsea are going to make a £12M  bid for Newcastle’s 25 year-old French International winger Hatem Ben Arfa.

ben arfa at liverpool 98

Ben Arfa - the mercurial Frenchman in action

Reports in The Sun newspaper are saying that Chelsea are willing to pay out £12M to secure the winger, who is an exciting player to watch – but we’re not sure that £12M is enough to persuade owner Mike Ashley to sell one of Newcastle’s crown jewels, who is out injured at the moment.

There’s no way in which Newcastle will let Ben Arfa leave – unless a daft bid like the £35M Liverpool bid for Andy Carroll comes in for the Frenchman – but £12M is nowhere near daft enough.

Ben Arfa is probably the most popular player on Tyneside, and has scored some fabulous goals in the black and white colors of Newcastle, and the fans will not take kindly to it at all – if Ben Arfa is sold.

Ben Arfa has said he loves it at Newcastle with all the passion fro football in the area, but Newcastle also need to be pushing for a European Champions league place if they are to keep their best players at the club – and most didn’t sign up to fight a relegation battle.

And that’s why it’s important that Newcastle start putting some wins together and climb that league table.

There’s just no way Newcastle will let Ben Arfa go for just £12M – maybe £25M?

Comments welcome.

How much did they pay for Oscar or hazard he’s better than both of them in his day

  • 7 Beattie25 // Dec 23, 2012 at 9:57 AM

Kouyate is a great shout. Not only young, powerful and great in the air but agile, quick and Senegalese.

If Ba is leaving he would be great to add to the team.

Also everyone has this fantasy that Ba and Cisse will get on because they’re Senegalese. That’s wrong as Ba is French with Senegalse heritage. It’s a lot different.

I’m not saying signing an actual senagalese would work effectively but I personally think it’d help.

Kouyate, Boilesen, Remy and Guiseppe Rossi.

Yes Rossi is injured like Gosling was but he’d be great back up and cheap.

I think we can say ba n Simpson will in jan n that will b it the rest will b loan deals for abeid n players like that

You could hardly blame him for wanting to move.

I am still recovering from yesterday’s ”thrillfest” where at home against a bottom team we played 4 DM’s and 2 number 9′s and finally only brought on a bit of pace and flair in Obi and Marv in the last knockings which paid instant dividends.

morning all – WOW that was some rant by supermac, cant say ive seen what he has seen but maybe he needs to kick start his pundit career eh!

I posted yesterday that the big clubs will be looking at Hatem, he is our best player by a country mile. If you were Hatem what would you do. We finish 5th and he would have been thinking i can win something with this great club (i honestly think he loves the club). Then he see’s the lack of quality signings made in the summer and see’s the struggle of this year. He could go if the correct offer comes in and i for one would be devasted but the clowns who did not bring in reinforcements in the summer have caused all of this IMO

But if he does what he done at Marseille we’re ferked.

But if he wants to leave

Marty – on what basis. That we are a team in the champions league and are not a selling club. That kid should be playing at the highest level no doubt.

  • 34 SupaToonKid // Dec 23, 2012 at 10:50 AM

Yeah right! NOT GONNA HAPPEN in a million years!

Ben Arfa won’t be sold for anything less than £20M (unless he has some hidden clause we’re unaware of).

HBA has a good contract here and loves it here because he is the star man that we adore to watch. He’d be lost at Chelski.

Also Chelsea really do not need him as they have influx of CAM/RW/LW: Mata, Oscar, Hazard, Moses, Marin & Piazon (+ De Bruyne out on loan).

  • 35 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 23, 2012 at 10:54 AM

  • 38 breno95 // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:07 AM

I know Ed has a blog to service but putting up threads of this kind serve no purpose except to stir things up in the same way the press do.
Have scoured the press and I can’t find any such report. Chelsea are targeting Falcaou at a cost of 50million plus they have the likes of Hazard, mata (who is being offered an improved deal), Ramires and Oscar. At this present time there is nothing in this alleged story.
As for Ba don’t see him going anywhere. Reasons are the fact that no one in the top 4 want him and nor will they pay the large amounts of money to his agents. As for Liverpool they are on verge of signing Sturridge for 12million.
As for links coming into NUFC pick from any of these:-
    Debuchy
    Douglas
    Sissoko
    Remy and
    Pierre abumayang (St Ettienne striker)

  • 39 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:09 AM

They already have a Ben Arfa esk player in Hazard so why wpuld they want Benny ?

  • 40 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:12 AM

If he was going to go anywhere I’d probably say Arsenal as Wenger is a big admirer of his, then again Arsenal aren’t the force they used to be so we should not be to worried IMO.

  • 41 BelfastMagpie // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:14 AM

I don’t think Ba is going anywhere either.

The arsenal link sounds like bullshit to me.

Qpr will probably be the only club in the prem prepared to pay the money & wages for him.

  • 42 nick_9 // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:15 AM

Why wouldn’t they want Benny? If we got offered another Benny I would certainly take him. The boy is unreal at times with his body movement and ability to make players look like clowns. If he was playing for a London club he would get lots of praise. The last thing we need is for his head to be turned, papers speculating champions league clubs he could sign for on a certain amount of money. The lad could be playing football at the highest level next season and not look out of place, us? who knows? He does feel loved here but if someone starts to offer you twice your wage its going to be hard to turn down and once his head is turned it’s harder to get a bigger fee for him. If we don’t appear to be going pLaces to players like hba then I think they will be off at some point.

  • 43 bills-son // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:16 AM

Unfortunately if HBA keeps his form its not a question of if he goes but when. He has the makings of a world class player and players of that standard will attract ManU, Citeh, Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid. You cant blame a player for having ambition and unless a miracle happens the simple fact is we cant compete with the aforementioned teams who will pay top players £150K+ and fill that out with bonuses for winning titles and the Champs league.

Hopefully HBA will be here for another season and if he does go I’m sure Ashley will get top dollar.

And before anyone slams me for being defeatist about our ability to hold on to top players like HBA it brasses me off as much as the next fan. I wish we were at the same level as the clubs I’ve mentioned but we arent. That’s the reality.

  • 44 Black and White with an army lol // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:17 AM

HBA won’t go to chelsea there’s to much competition in his role, and for all these so call top teams after him is utter bollocks and this to me just means that teams are threatened by Newcastle via buying top players without spending daft money.

  • 45 numba9 // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:20 AM

Lazy journalism by the rags again the lad it a player too similar to hazard I don’t think Chelsea are interested . And twelve is maybe a quarter of his value. Get some brains u mongerers

  • 46 Luke-A-Like // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:20 AM

Benny won’t leave. Does anyone know if Debuchy and Remy have played in Europe this season? Coz then they’d be useless to us in the Europa League

  • 47 cyprus // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:20 AM

The dreaded news… same happened with Ginola, next year he was player of the year for… Spurs! Hope we can at least hold out for like 35 mil., but really, if we need to push on, we must keep players like HBA and Ba. Our salary cap is ‘cute’, but unless the whole league complies (like in US leagues), it simply means you eventually end up with crap.

Did Macdonald make some sense? Why did you dismiss him so lightly Ed? Everyone’s looking for the reason for our dire displays, maybe he’s hit it: People playing for themselves instead of the cause.

We need a leader, pronto: on the field.

  • 48 Black and White with an army lol // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:21 AM

HBA well over the 35 mill mark

  • 49 2_goal_tino // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:21 AM

This may be believable if it was any of the top teams besides Chelsea, but there are just too many similar players to him there. Granted none of them can dribble as well as him but they are all in his position. He’d be more likely to get in the Man U or City teams than Chelsea… this won’t happen.

  • 50 cyprus // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:24 AM

He’d walk in any team dude…

  • 51 Black and White with an army lol // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:26 AM

he wont go to man city same as chelsea too many players in his role plus city doesn’t need anymore players, but for man u i dont think he will like going there basically because hba likes to do his own thing but fergy wont allow him

  • 52 RonVanDam // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:32 AM

Stop writing rubbish blogs like this Ed. This is one of the top NUFC blogs on the net and what will happen is other sites will copy and re-write this article until everyone starts talking about it and gets blown out of proportion. Once it travels to the player – he will have doubts why he is even at NUFC when he could be playing for bigger clubs in CL and earn a higher wage and win trophies

12m bid will be shot down immediately by MA so this ones a no brainer.

Have a great day everyone, im off

  • 53 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:40 AM

Of course he’d go to a top club, he’s not gonna turn them down just because they have other wingers ffs!
If he feels he’s good enough to play for a CL team he won’t be affraid of the challenge to take some ones spot
And as much as i love benny he is not as good as hazard and he wont fetch £35 mil, no one will reckon if a bid came in between £14-18 mil he’d be going like

  • 54 Scottiedog // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:49 AM

    http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-wire/alan-pardews-contract-clause-revealed/?

Rather good news to be honest. With the way things are going so far, I doubt many would be surprised if Pardew got sacked, that coupled with Mike Ashley seemingly merciless with his manager dismissals (Hughton). Would have been a nightmare if he were to be given 8 years wages if dismissed.

The other surprise about this news is that, Harry doesn’t seem to be the one revealing contract details this time.

  • 56 hoppernufc // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:51 AM

Tads- disagree with that like I reckon benny is twice the player hazard is, hazard started mint for the first 5-6 games and has totally faded away I would have arfa over him anytime in my team like, just my personal opinion

  • 57 cyprus // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:57 AM

    agree with hopper…

  • 58 moonraker // Dec 23, 2012 at 11:57 AM

If HBA goes it will be £25 millionish. If Ba goes I will be surprised cos any club wont get insurance and they will be looking at a £30 million investment and will need insurance cover for that amount. The only ones who would pay that without insurance is Chelski. Arsenal cant afford to pay him £100k a week and judging by what Redknap said yesterday they wont be paying out huge wages Harry is gonna get some scrappers in. On the other hand if we let Ba go and bring in Remy that could be a good partnership with Cisse who is being overshadowed by Ba and playing out of position.

He’s four years younger has twice the goals and twice the assits
Chelsea have had a dip in form but hazard is a world class player that would walk in to any team no question
He also has more league assits for chelski in 16 games than benny in his whole toon career

  • 68 hoppernufc // Dec 23, 2012 at 12:33 PM

Tads- hazard is obviously guna have a lot more goals and assists he’s playing in a world class team who are wanting to win the title also hazard does not have to track back etc and he’s played upfront and off the striker so it’s not fair to compare them by goals/assists, ido ?õ? really think if hazard was playing for us he would any way near the same amount of goals/assists as he does for Chelsea?

    He must not leave

  • 77 noladonna // Dec 23, 2012 at 3:52 PM

    Hazzy you r an idiot.

Ben Arfa had a harder shot and is more of a flair player than Messi. I also think Marveaux isn’t too far off Messi. He just needs a run-out.

Messi is probably better in the air than Ben Arfa.

  • 81 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 23, 2012 at 5:20 PM

Messi probably doesn’t lose the ball as much as Hatem, but in terms of technique, you can’t get better than Ben Arfa.

You can’t compare anyone with Messi cos of what he and his team have achieved.

Lets just say that HBA is one of the best players ever to wear the Newcastle shirt in my opinion and we have not seen the best of him yet.

I have a feeling that, with a couple of decent signings the second half of the season could be very exciting and I’m always optimistic because this great institution never ceases to surprise me.

Happy Christmas and a successful New Year to All Toon fans.
    Howay the lads !!

This rumour is complete bollocks. They just bought Marin, Moses, Hazard, Oscar and have Mata. Sturridge is prob going but they’ll be wasteing money buying someone else.

This rumour is complete rubbish. They just bought Marin, Moses, Hazard, Oscar and have Mata. Sturridge is prob going but they’ll be wasteing money buying someone else.

Comparing Ben Arfa to Messi is just plain stupidity…you see a player go past 3 players, and automatically he is as good as messi? Clueless fools

  • 86 magpie rangers // Dec 23, 2012 at 10:25 PM

Messi probably the greatest footballer to play the game! Hba not even the best player at the club this season!
    Not even a comparison!
    Kets

Magpie rangers, hba is the best player at the club this season, you tool. Kets I totally agree with you.

  • 88 magpie rangers // Dec 24, 2012 at 9:11 AM

Gazza son you been on the sauce again? We all like a flare player but an end result comes in handy, and trying to compare messi and HBA is P1$$ take!
As far as the best player this season you’d have to say demba.

  • 89 gazzaforever // Dec 24, 2012 at 6:05 PM
