News today that Newcastle will be monitoring the situation with Paris St Germain defender Mamadou Sakho, and this is not the first time we have been linked with the 22 year-old 6’2″ 10 times capped French International.
Mamadou Sakho has been tracked by Newcastle for over twelve months
Newcastle are said to be after a right back, a center-back and a striker in January, and maybe Mamadou is the center-back we are afte, although his situation is also being monitored by Manchester City, AC Milan and some other big clubs.
Mamadou has had problems getting much playing time at PSG, and he is not happy at being on the bench, and presumably would be open to a move to play in the Premier League.
The French press are reporting that Newcastle scouts have been at a number of PSG games this season, and we suppose Graham Carr has been a regular visitor.
PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti prefers Brazilian Alex and Thiago Silva as first choice at PSG, although Alex is out at the moment with an injury and Mamadou is getting some playing time.
This is what Ancelotti said about the situation:
“He can’t understand my decision to leave him out but that is logical.” “He is not in a position to leave. He will stay because he is an important player.”
The French International is highly rated and probably worth close to £10M – and that maybe too much for Newcastle to pay – if we are also looking to bring in the £10M rated striker Loic Remy from Marseilles.
Sakho doesn’t turn 23 until next February, and he has played for all the French Youth sides from U16 through U21, and he has played for the full France side 10 times, and the Paris-born player can play at either center-back or left back.
He’s obviously a talented player, but we wonder if Newcastle can afford him.
