Newcastle Now Linked With Fench International Center-Back

10:45 am, Monday, December 24th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 25 Comments

News today that Newcastle will be monitoring the situation with Paris St Germain defender Mamadou Sakho, and this is not the first time we have been linked with the 22 year-old 6’2″ 10 times capped French International.

Mamadou Sakho has been tracked by Newcastle for over twelve months

Newcastle are said to be after a right back, a center-back and a striker in January, and maybe Mamadou is the center-back we are afte, although his situation is also being monitored by Manchester City, AC Milan and some other big clubs.

Mamadou has had problems getting much playing time at PSG, and he is not happy at being on the bench, and presumably would be open to a move to play in the Premier League.

The French press are reporting that Newcastle scouts have been at a number of PSG games this season, and we suppose Graham Carr has been a regular visitor.

PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti prefers Brazilian Alex and Thiago Silva as first choice at PSG, although Alex is out at the moment with an injury and Mamadou is getting some playing time.

This is what Ancelotti said about the situation:

“He can’t understand my decision to leave him out but that is logical.”  “He is not in a position to leave. He will stay because he is an important player.”

The French International is highly rated and probably worth close to £10M – and that maybe too much for Newcastle to pay – if we are also looking to bring in the £10M rated striker Loic Remy from Marseilles.

Sakho doesn’t turn 23 until next February, and he has played for all the French Youth sides from U16 through U21, and he has played for the full France side 10 times, and the  Paris-born player can play at either center-back or left back.

He’s obviously a talented player, but we wonder if Newcastle can afford him.

What do you think?

    No Chance IMHO

  • 2 Robby Bobson // Dec 24, 2012 at 10:47 AM

BEAST!! Felt we’ve always lacked a tank at centre half.

can any 1 tell me why Pardew played CIISE on the wing and Shola down the middle?

  • 4 Kyo // Dec 24, 2012 at 10:49 AM

I don’t see us signing anyone tbh. Llambias is incompetent.

  • 5 Graeme // Dec 24, 2012 at 10:50 AM

A “Quality” CB alongside Collo would be very welcome and eventually replace him. Its not as if we don’t need him, having been waiting over a year for a CB!!!

Err cus we changed formation as qpr were doing naff all to warrant 3 in cm.

    Robby

So it was not unfair to cisse

  • 8 spitfire_ // Dec 24, 2012 at 10:52 AM

If Ba’s already on his way out, could send him to PSG, the club he supported as a boy, in a swap deal for Sakho. Would be a good deal for both sides i reckon!

When shola comes on and scores then not really….we probably could have gone 442 at half time though and give cisse some time up front as qpr were pathetic all game and were looking for the draw after 5 minutes.

Oh do me a favour Ed !

Don,t post rumours on here about Prospective signings!

The Window is not even open yet, and most of the players we are linked with will never come to us anyway. Coz their Agents and Clubs will screw us around like LILLE and FC TWENTE did last summer!

Not one to be flippant though i just don,t believe all the bull

    Indian

From what I have seen of our games I think cisse plays best as a lone striker through the middle.

Ba is at his best when played alongside shola.

I don’t think cisse and Ba as a two up front work.

Therefore in 442 it makes sense to have shola and Ba up front.

And about jonas….wouldnt be surprised if he didntstart, pards showed discontent many times with his lack of crossing ability on saturday.

I think he needs a rest and a reminding he isnt guarenteed a game….when he got subbed on saturday he didnt even look at the board at first kind of assumming its not him.

He had a lack of form beginning of last season, had a game or 2 out came back and played the best ive seen him and got himself a new contract.

Too much attention on Remy with too many English clubs prepared to outbid us. We have more chance with this bloke than Remy, although I think he’ll end up at Arsenal or Man City, and Remy will end up elsewhere too.

Indian – Cisse will come good again. When Ba goes (and he will – Bye and thanks for the goals, no hard feelings) Cisse will start banging them in. Form is temporary class is permanent. Old saying, but true.

    Team for Boxing day:——–Krul———————————-

    Santon———-Williamson———Coloccini——–Gutierrez

    Tavernier——Anita——–Perch——Marveaux—-Obertan

    ——————————–Cisse————————————

I am getting pissed off with Ba so lets get Cisse in his preferred position, the lad has been working his nads off and deserves a chance.

    Or a team of beasts:——–Krul———————————-

    Santon———-Williamson———Coloccini——–Gutierrez

    Cisse———Perch——-Ameobi——-Ranger——Sameobi-

    ————————————Ba

    I think all 6ft plus

    Merry christmas to all

AP may not have been happy at Jonas’ poor crossing
    but
It was AP who asked Jonas to play in a deeper role
    and
the stats say Jonas has done a top class job in an unsung role.
Haven’t you guys seen the stats? Jonas is well up there or tops at tackles/winning possession.
I don’t say the stats are the B all and end all, but they do say a lot.
AP’s backroom boys analyse games and I’m sure they are well aware of the contribution Jonas makes, even if some of you guys aren’t.

I’m sure that we will end up signing a centre half from the Championship.

Then as a panic we’ll end up signing a youth player yet to establish himself in the Prem on loan.

I know we all go on about it, which is extremely frustrating. If the fat controller had dipped his hands in his pockets at the start of the season, we’d be in a much better position, staring Europe in the face again. I firmly believe we could have possibly signed players all with similar attributes in the Summer for less money.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks this. With our current situation, clubs know that we’re desperate for players. They may just end up putting the asking price up a few million.

I am confident that with our current team we would stay up though. We’ve got some great players.

  • 19 kenzie // Dec 24, 2012 at 1:38 PM

Can you imagine, Ashley payin £20 million, more or less on two players? assuming we tie up the remy deal. If ash did that then he would signal to the fans that he wanted us to challenge the big boys. I cannot imagine that, even at christmas. were ashley to sign this guy i would believe. ashley has given me little cause for optimism.

  • 20 check the toastie // Dec 24, 2012 at 2:46 PM

No Chance of signing this lad, made up shite.

  • 21 obatoyou // Dec 24, 2012 at 2:50 PM

Can’t really blame ashley for not spending 50million on us, all we do is whinge and moan

  • 22 chuck // Dec 24, 2012 at 4:39 PM

Though a talent with PSG for the last few years, much like Richardson at Citeh.
His wage demands and cost are beyond what Ashley is willing to pay, no real sell on profit.
    Sorry, no way !

I think this singing is pretty unlikely, yet possible. I hope it goes through, but even a player like Douglas would be just fine with me.

It’s been literally killing me being forced to watch Williamson start crucial games this season for us. Is it just me or does it look like his top speed is a “light jog”…How do you get to the premiere league when a 6 year old could probably out run you? Something needs to be done this January to fix our gaping whole at CB with Taylor always injured and Coloccini trying to run the defense by himself.

Like I said Sakho would be great, but maybe a less mentioned name such as Douglas would be a great fit as well.

Sakho should be a good signing for us!
