We’d be a little surprised if Newcastle bring in any midfielders in the January transfer window, since it seems our major requirements are some defenders and a striker, but we have again been linked with AZ Alkmaar’s 19 year-old Dutch International midfielder Adam Maher.
Adam Maher – Dutch 19 year-old right footed midfielder
The youngster is one of the best young players in Holland, and has already played twice for the full Dutch side, and he’s also played for the Dutch U17, U19 and U21 sides.
Adam made his professional debut for AZ in December two years ago when just 17, in a UEFA Europa League game against FC BATE Borisov, and he managed to score a goal in that game.
He has now played 66 times for Alkmaar and has 16 goals and 12 assists, which looks like an excellent record for a 19 year-old attacking midfielder, who seems still anxious to leave Alkmaar.
This is what Adam told De Telegraaf yesterday:
“If there is a nice club, I’m open to it. I still have the same ambitions as before. The future looks the same to me. I’ll continue to the winter break here, then see what happens.”
Adam is expected to move either next month or next summer, but Newcastle may find it difficult to entice the youngster to Tyneside for a couple of reasons.
One is that Chelsea and Manchester City are also said to be interested in the youngster, and then the fee is estimated to be around £12M for the Moroccan born youngster, which could be too much for Newcastle.
Last year Maher was voted Holland’s Young Player of the Year – he’s a very good young player.
