In a fixture Newcastle have not won for 40 years, the Magpies were ahead three times in this game with goals from James Perch after 4 minutes, a Jonny Evans own goal after 29 minutes, and a Papiss Cisse goal after 65 minutes, but Manchester United came back and got the winner after 90 minutes from Hernandez, to leave a fantastic performance from Newcastle with absolutely nothing to show for it.
Alan Pardew – had the team well prepared for the game today
But there are loads of positives to take out of this game, with Marveaux hitting the cross-bar after 69 minutes when were 3-2 up and Sammy Ameobi hitting a post after 85 minutes when it was tied at 3-3.
The Newcastle players gave all they had today in what was a terrific game to watch, and Newcastle gave Manchester United all they could handle for large portions of this game, but we just didn’t have the luck at the very end of this game, otherwise we could have come away with a point or even the win – but it wasn’t to be.
Newcastle started this game brightly and were ahead after only 4 minutes when a shot by Demba Ba was spilled badly by goalkeeper De Gea, and James Perch followed through and put the ball into the back of the net with his left foot — his first ever goal for the club.
Newcastle were playing well and pressing the Red Devils but then Jonny Evans had a chance in the penalty area and he put the ball home past Tim Krul to make it 1-1.
But would you believe that just five minutes later Newcastle went ahead with an own goal from the same player – Jonny Evans – and the linesmen had flagged Cisse for offside and after TV replays Cisse was offside and seemed to be interfering with play – but the referee allowed the goal – and manager Alex Ferguson, not for the last time in this game, berated the referee and his assistants.
And after 39 minutes from a free kick just outside the box, Sylvain Marveaux hit the cross-bar but the ball was cleared – a great effort from the Frenchman – and there’s no way we should let this lad leave Newcastle in January.
It was 2-1 at the half and Newcastle had played some of their best football of the season and were the better side.
AS expected Manchester came at Newcastle after the break and Patrice Evra had the ball in the back of the net after 58 minutes and that signalled a Manchester United resurgence.
But nobody told Newcastle and Gabby Obertan, who had come on as a sub for Bigirimana, made a great run down the left wing and crossed it to Papiss Cisse who had the ball in the back of the net in the twinkling of an eye – the old Papiss Cisse for sure – a great goal from the Senegal captain.
So Newcastle were ahead again with just 25 minutes to go, and we were then put under some pressure and after 71 minutes, after they had missed several chances, it was Robin van Persie who put the Red Devils level at 3-3.
What a game this was, and both sides were going for the win, and after 85 minutes Sammy Ameobi had a chance – after he had come on for Papiss Cisse – but he hit the post and the ball rebounded into De Gea’s hands.
But then heart-break for Newcastle, and just when it looked like we would get at least a point, a chance went to Hernandez, and he slotted the ball home for the winner after 90 minutes, and it wasn’t until six minutes later that the referee blew the final whistle and a magnificent Newcastle effort ended up with nothing.
And one last thing – Alex Ferguson was simply a disgrace on the sidelines in this game as he continually berated the lineman and the referee too – and something has to be done about this – although he was hugging his assistants when Hernandez scored at the end.
We expect him to get a ban after the video is reviewed by FA officials – he brings the game into disrepute with his bullying of the officials.
This was probably Newcastle’s best display of the season, and we came up just short, but our players were simply magnificent and brave, and hardly deserved to be beaten today.
A great performance but a terrible result just about sums it up.
And just to make things a little bit worse for Newcastle fans, Sunderland beat Manchester City 1-0 at the Stadium of Light and are now two points ahead of Newcastle in the league table. 🙁

Comment #41Woolerbill – I disagree! Who would have thought we would take the lead in the first place never mind 3 times. The luck always rides with them and I never expected anything from this game but seeing the display today I am so proud and absolutely gutted we came away with nothing.

Comment #42It was so sad to see Simmo give up on the MANU last goal , stopping his defending to let the Pea have a clear header past Krul. And his last shot was such a waste. One can only hope he is gone in the window. I’d rather have young Tav out there trying than Simmo just giving goals away!

Comment #43Disagree with the flair player doesn’t do defending argument
With the exception of Ronaldo or messi you can’t carry other players who can’t defend
Cisse scored a cracker and put in a shift, including a couple of tasty tackles on evra
He’s blessed with two arms and two legs, he should put them to good use. Otherwise may as well be a paraplegic… Apologies to any paraplegics reading…

Comment #44Ferguson is a sad bloody idiot. When he doesnt get his will through he shouts at the refs until the scene has changed.
Also the constant aggrieved top teams, especially at home, leave a bitter taste… and atm I am fed up with football all together.
Whefour questions that should be asked after this game are:
Why on earth didnt Fergsun get a red?
What would have happended if Pardew made such scene and complained at the refs?
Why didnt Valencia get a straight red?
Why on earth did he not get a yellow card ontop of his current yellow?
Football is not fair and its very bitter atm.
I will celebrate the day when Ferguson retires… he is a sad unrespectful prick tbh.

Totally agree with you about Sammy. I was yelling at him to run when the ball was lost and to get back and help his defenders. He just stood there.
He doesn’t deserve to play alongside players like Anita, Marveaux, Cisse and Ba who ran their hearts out for the team.

Comment #47I was proud of the team today for the first time in a long time. I know with them winning, it’s not a good day table wise, but against QPR and the two Manchester clubs we have put in good performances. We must keep this up against teams with smaller bank balances and we will move up the table.

Comment #481) to be honest we CAN beat Man Utd. Come on guys we score 3 goals at Old Trafford!
2) All of Man Utd goals are not because they are good – but more towards our mistakes. Lack of concentration, mispass etc
3) The last 20 mins, we got tired legs.
4) Williamson is a championship defender, he is the difference between we nearly win at old trafford and losing 4-3. A centre back is a priority. he is to be blame for all four goals!
5) Cisse improves and a very nice goal

Comment #49Wow so glad Guti is out injured for a few games. Marveaux and even Obertan gave us some creativity and pace on the left side for the first time this season. Cisse looked hungry and sharp. The only weakness was once again Simspon Williamson partnership. Also Simpson couldnt have been more useless going forward. I’d prefer perch to play there and stick Bigi in the centre. I’m confident we will bolster the defence in Jan, otherwise we would have won the last 5 games.
Don’t even get me started on Valencia. I’m still fuming about that. You just know that if it had been on RVP it would have been a red and SAF would have gone mental, saying he could have killed us all. F disgrace

Comment #50Valencia in Anita. Everyone on here knows had it been Tiote delivering something like that it would have been straight red and 3 game ban.
Ligament damage probably and 2-4 weeks out.

Comment #51Yes we lost, but we lost with our heads held high.We really gave them a game and for those having already written us off,our team issued them a good reminder that we are getting to our best.we’ll start getting to winning ways pretty soon on this display.I’m so proud of the players with what the did yesterday, couldn’t help not to feel for them.Could see they were completely exhausted, straining to cover back, yet they had an incredible will motivating them to drive this squad to forward but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.It’ll be unfair to fault our players for this valiant display,so i pay i deep tribute to all and every NEWCASTLE PLAYERS,SIR ALAN PARDEW,ALL THE COACHING STAFF AND THE WONDERFUL FANS FOR THIS GREAT DISPLAY YESTERDAY,IT REALLY MADE MY HEART WARM.KEEP THE FAITH FOLKS AND GOOD DAYS WILL BE HERE SOONER.I HAVE SPECIAL THOUGHTS FOR VURNON ANITA and as a human being i just hope it is nothing serious, please god.

Comment #52Well the lads did us proud yesterday, well except Sammy. If they took every idle bone out of his body he would be carried in a bucket.
Watched Sammy in the reserves too and he is useless. Bradden Inman is 6 1 bags of pace scored seven with 8 assists in the reserves and scored 3 in 3 starts at Crewe with one assist. He deserves to be started before Sammy the seal.
Ferguson is a disgrace and so was the tackle by Valencia on Anita.
