Manchester United v Newcastle United - Premier League

James Perch after scoring after just 4 minutes

Manchester United were ahead only once in this game, and that was after 90 minutes when Hernandez scored the winning goal, but Newcastle were simply magnificent today and we were so unlucky to come away with nothing at all – in what was one of our best displays of the season.

  • 2 ba humbug // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:10 PM

    Stop shouting you keyboard warrior

Remember we got well beat by Manure at home so it shows how far we have come.

  • 3 Conaldo (The Wizard...Also Bestest Friends With Paul Scharner) // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:11 PM

I hope everyone including Pardew get all the plaudits and respect today. Truly magnificent performance.

Who said Pardew was too defensive?!!!!

    Onwards and upwards to arsenal.

Also, please no comments about the position/results of Sunderland on this blog. We don’t care. That’s mackem mentality. They judge their season on how close they finished to us.

    We are better than that.

  • 4 achtoon // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:11 PM

Indian, is that you who says Pardew should play more attacking footbal?

  • 5 ba humbug // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:12 PM

Just about the only thing almost everyone on this blog agrees on is that we have needed two quality defenders for almost two seasons. Ideally at least one with pace so we can hold a high line.

  • 6 BelfastMagpie // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:14 PM

To come away with nothing outa that game, it feels crap.

Shocking defending cost us, in the end.

  • 7 Indian Magpie // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:14 PM

    attacking players with a plan

  • 8 WorJordi // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:14 PM

I think Ashley should see we need defenders, a winger and a striker at the very least.
Anyone on here who thinks we are top 4 or close is deluded.
We are where we deserve to be.
    And that is very worrying.
Great performance but why only once or twice this season why not every game

  • 9 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:16 PM

I do feel great knowing Pardew can ‘kill his darlings’ 😀

…it wasn’t his fault it didn’t work! …and it wasn’t because of lack of transfer activity if those people are still around!

  • 10 achtoon // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:17 PM

getting away from some of the a-holes on here. Where did the 4 mins injury time com from. i can’t remember that much happening in the 2nd half. How was ferguson allowed to get away with harrasing the officals so much both at half time and during the game. How can a linesman be expected to make good descissions when he’s getting abuse in his ear during play. during the 4 minutes we only got to play about 2 minutes football even though it went to 8 mins. but at Manure you have to expect it. as the commentator said, newastle back to how we played last year. i know some of you still think that was shit but most of the world thinks we played good football last year (hence the 5th).

  • 11 Indian Magpie // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:18 PM

do me a favour, FFS don’t use smileys atleast not now not 2day

  • 12 WorJordi // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:19 PM

AP bottled it. He shouldve stayed with the same formation for another 5 minutes at least. Everyone knows SAF gets his extra minutes regardless of who is in charge.
AP bottled it. We played well then surrendered when we couldve won it
Valencia needs banning for that tackle on Anita. But he wont cos he plays for SAF and he will tell everyone it was a fair challenge

  • 13 Spuggy // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:21 PM

First time I’ve been excited watching my team since the season started. We pressed high today and worked as a team for once.

Gutted for Anita as the prospect of seeing Cabaye, tiote and Anita in a 3 with HBA, Ba and Cisse/marv was mouth watering.

  • 14 Lee Dodd // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:21 PM

Alex bloody ferguson needs a knocking down. last week it was swansea how dare they and this week how darewe score and the refs and the linesmen do as yoru told sir alex says what goes not you lot . Sick to death of him. would Sir Bobby act Like that I don’t think so. We did well Today Lets hope we can kick on . we got beaten again but lets hope Mike Ashley opens the wallet and soon.

  • 15 jimiley // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:21 PM

Its bollocks to talk of taking positives out of losing. Losses breed more losses. Its all about winning. They could not be in a worse frame of mind for the Arsenal game. If they had won, they would have been a great frame of mind. I tipped them to win today because Manure are so overrated. They should have won. They will lose at Arsenal.

  • 16 roshan MAGPIE // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:21 PM

gutted about anita s injury rather than the defeat really happy about our performance is it me or pardew s substitutions are clicking

  • 17 achtoon // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:22 PM

Indian, but you have to have atacking players who are ready to play. Marvous has had two serious injuries and Obertan is just coming back for injuries both need to come on slowy. I’d still bring in Tiote for Arsenal as he plays much better when we are trying to attack than having to do all of the defensive work himself.

  • 18 euanpolo // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:22 PM

I can’t believe some of you are criticising Pardew or the team. You couldn’t ask for more than that and I’m proud of them even though losing it at the end like that was gutting.

  • 19 Rotonda heights // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:23 PM

    Awesome game.
    We finally lost the fear.
I don’t know if its Colo and the players and Pardew finally listening to them, but we played a good 433 and kept the ball down a lot more than usual today.

We have 2 very weak links in simmo and willo and I don’t know why we tried to play offside on their winning goal or why we subbed Cisse for Sammi, but Marv, Anita, Cisse and Obertan were really excellent and took the game to them.

It hurts losing but some of our play was great today so it doesn’t hurt so much.

  • 20 nick_9 // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:23 PM

Conaldo I think we went defensive around 80 minutes when we no longer had cisse or Ba on the pitch. Agreed shola is good at holding the ball up so some weeks we would of held on, but marveaux, obertan, Sammy, perch and Anita had a big job of soaking up the pressure for 15 minutes at old Trafford. In hindsight I wish we carried on taking the game to them, obertan was on for about 7 minutes before he got an assist for cisse.

Gutted for the lads but despite the loss I would like them to take something into the arsenal game. We played well and have come away gutted which speaks volumes

  • 21 ONLINE GUY // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:24 PM

Just the best game I have seen in the Prem for years and years .Newcastle were fantastic ..Man U had the ref and the linesman ..Valencia should have been sent off . Fergie knows he got away with something today

We almost went 3-1 up with Marvo hitting the bar, just an inch lower, 3-1 to us

And then SAMMY THE SLOTH Hitting the post..Christ that was close. ..

    The best team lost today.

  • 22 WorJordi // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:24 PM

Also i notice AP was conspicuous by his absence when John Carver and Steve stone et al were having a go at the linesman about Valencia’s tackle on Anita.
Probably didnt want to upset SAF his mentor.
Daft twat probably thinks he will follow SAF.
    Hope he does
I am sooooooooo f’kin frustrated at losing that game.
We are 5 points off a relegation place.
    We need signings

  • 23 hotdog // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:25 PM

Spuggi – We could have Barcelona’s attacking players but unless we get a good defence we will continue to be the underachievers. Serously when was the last time NUFC had a good / solid back four ffs?

  • 24 Tommyy // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:25 PM

Really good game today, encouraging performance aswell! We really need two defenders and another midfielder especially if Anita is now out.
I’m excited to see our full team out with a couple of additions, we’ll fly up the league if Pardew plays as openly as we did today every week!
Well done to him and the players despite the result.

  • 25 jimiley // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:26 PM

Sick of us being the gallant losers. So predictable. When the going gets tough we fold.

  • 26 toonking // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:26 PM

can’t you remember what the score was at home to manure this season?
i was expecting a 5-1 thrashing considering how bad our defence is so to manage a 4-3 loss by twice scoring after they scored proves we are returning and getting confidence into our team i am much happier with this than any other game this season even wigan

  • 27 ToonDownSouth // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:26 PM

They’re 7 points clear at the top of the league…

That shows how embarrassingly bad the Premier League is.

Everyone harps on about La Liga being a 2 horse race – at least the horses in La Liga are good horses!

  • 28 Rotonda heights // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:26 PM

the fa are spineless and have tolerated the biggest club manager’s antics for 25 years

  • 29 toonking // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:28 PM

@hotdog well we have manures defense yet they top but we bottom before today we were so poor attacking.

  • 30 Beattie25 // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:28 PM

I get branded with being a person who is negative or filled with hatred for Pardew.

I’m not, I’m just an honest guy who expresses his opinion.

Today I thought we were simply brilliant. Finally it would seem we have realised that you must score to win, and we nearly did.

If Pardew did that every week I’d eat my words. Today I say to him and the team, well done.

  • 31 lucasnufc // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:28 PM

Pardew got his tactics spot on, we played great football. Absolute nonsense that “hoof ball” is pardew’s tactic. Clearly the reason we play like that is a lack of confidence, which we had in abundance today. Pardew out? No thank you, get behind the team and stop searching for negatives.

  • 32 ONLINE GUY // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:29 PM

    Lee Dodd

Well said mate ..your spot on about SAF
    He is an Absolute BAS*rd

  • 33 WorJordi // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:29 PM

    Rotonda @28
    Here here.
They call SAF teflon and its no coincidence either.
He says and does what he wants when he wants.
They get the rub at home every time and as much extra time as is needed
The FA are up his rase as well so nowt will happen, as usual

  • 34 achtoon // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:29 PM

Hot dog, newcastle have never had a decent back four, ever. under Keegan in the glory years our back four were shit. constantly slated in the press. before that the whole team was shit. the best defence we had was when woodgate played for use before he was injured or the first 10 games of last season. those are the only 2 periods i’ve seen in the past 30 years of watching the toon.

  • 35 Rotonda heights // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:30 PM

we played very well but tbh chicharitto could and should have had 5

  • 36 ToonDownSouth // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:30 PM

You’re unhappy because our manager was no verbally abusing and intimidating the officials?

Ferguson was absolute disgusting today, and it’s awful to think that people – clearly including yourself – see him as setting a good example.

  • 37 toonking // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:30 PM

what this must surely mean is papisse need to stay in the centre

  • 38 ToonDownSouth // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:32 PM

He always takes 5 chances to score 1 sitter – he’s just a terrible terrible finisher. His movement’s world class though.

We did hit the woodwork twice as well – I know they can be misleading, but the stats all show that we were well in that game.

  • 39 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:32 PM

That was just a poor performance. We beat them 3-0 at home last season. We CANNOT afford to let MARVEAUX go to Marseille. I wouldn’t accept anything less than £17m for him. He has proved today that he was the best player on the pitch.

Pardew must be mad if he lets him go.

  • 40 jimiley // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:33 PM

We last won there in 1972. Three wins theer in the last 80 years. Unbelievable. We had a great chance today and blew it AGAIN. Because there is no self belief at the club. We are the eternal gallant losers who make up the numbers. Man U come back from a goal behind every other week. We achieved that miracle in 2010. That says it all about the mindset of the clubs. It aint luck or bad luck. Some teams are winners and some are losers. We can beat good teams but when its about actually winning something, we always fall short.

  • 41 WorJordi // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:33 PM

no what Im saying is AP is as shit scared of SAF as the FA is.
If he had any balls about him he would have took John Carver and Steve Stone back to the dugout and had a word at the end with SAF about his behaviour. He is after all the manager….isnt he?

  • 42 toonLYF // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:34 PM

looks like Anita is to be out for some time. We better have Sissoko prepared and ready to walk through the NUFC doors on the 1st of January, as we quite literally, do not have a midfield anymore.

  • 43 jimiley // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:34 PM

NUFC has only had one good defence in the last 50 years and that was the late 60s under Bobby Moncur

  • 44 jimiley // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:36 PM

Pardew thinks Jonas is a better player. Thats our manager for you!!!!!

  • 45 Crawfordladd17 // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:36 PM

Wish Manchester United would go bust like they deserve because there are in so much debt yet still pay millions to players each week. If we had half their budget we would be as good as them

  • 46 achtoon // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:36 PM

Beattie25 it’ not about pardew. when the players think they have to win i.e againstbotttom teams, their confidecne has gone so they panick. when they play against teams they aren’t expected to win against they relax and play football. Last year against some of the bottom teams we lost the players came out and said pardew had given them grief coz they lobbed the ball up field.

  • 47 Conaldo (The Wizard...Also Bestest Friends With Paul Scharner) // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:37 PM

    Beattie –

Good to see you say that. Sometimes no matter what your opinions are, we all support Newcastle. And
Today, we should all be immensely proud.

    Except Kets.
He’s still playing football manager, or is in a parallel universe where Man U and reading have swapped places.
And marveaux 17mil?! Please. I like him, but at present we would be lucky to get 3 mil for him.

Every game since stoke now I think we have played some excellent football and been improving week by week. Yes qpr was a bit dull but we did what we needed to do.

So proud of all the players today. Onwards and upwards to arsenal.

  • 48 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:37 PM

Sir Alex was extremely worried and concerned today. Every time my stream kept crashing Man Utd scored 2 seconds later. Even though we were by far the superior team, I knew that they’d get a few lucky goals. Same old scenario with Man Utd. We also go in front and then concede straight away.

Don’t forget, we have Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Tiote and Saylor missing whom would’ve played today, but at the moment, I rate Marveaux more highly than Cabaye.

Is Jonas injured??? Or is he off to Everton???

  • 49 achtoon // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:38 PM

jimiley probably right but i wasn’t alive then

  • 50 BWFFBW // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:38 PM

    Well said lucasnufc, well said!!

  • 51 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:40 PM

Marveaux’s just as influential as Ben Arfa and I rate Hatem at £45m, so £17m is a reasonable price. If Valencia’s worth £20m Marveaux has to be worth £30m. He’s still only 26.

  • 52 L.ARAVIND // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:44 PM

its stunning to see negative posts..we were remarkable, just remember we hit cross bar twice,a draw or our win would have been fair.Anyhow,,pls give players some credit, they did their best and even A.P has to be given some time and chance.we didn’t bring enough players in summer, thats what we are paying for…lets hope we get 3 -4 players this january. still we have europa in hand,,lets win that..And for gods sake be positive,,its our team,,if u have any faith in yourself or in god just pray that we win against arsenal and everton. We are 100% capable of that and are way better of SHITTY ARSENAL.guys its not time to panic even if M.A fails to bring in players in january, then surely he has to be dragged to hell..till that pray to win our next 2-3 games on the trot…a top 8 finish is garenteed…..GOOD NIGHT!!!!HAVE LITTLE FAITH PLS….<3 newcastle united.
