Marveaux And Bigirimana Both Start For Magpies

Sylvain Marveaux and Gael Bigirimana both start for Newcastle this afternoon at Old Trafford.

It’s surprising that Gael Bigirimana is starting this afternoon at Old Trafford in place of the suspended Cheick Tiote, but it shows just how promising a player the former Coventry City midfielder is.

Jonas Gutierrez is not included in the 18 man squad for this game and 17 year-old striker Adam Campbell is on the bench today.

Newcastle will again play in a 4-3-3 formation with the midfield three being Perch Bigirimana and in-form Vurnon Anita and the front three are Cisse, Ba and Marveaux, who is showing some good form lately.

For the Red Devils Vidic is surprisingly on the bench with Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans the two center-backs.

It’s going to be a tough game today and we are expecting much out of the game – so it’s a good time to be surprised on the upside today.

Not a bad team, happy with it. I just hope if we lose that he doesnt change it straight back for the next one and have Joans of the LW.

Give it a few games without him, think Marveaux would be better in the middle behind Ba still rather than out wide and think Cisse has been lucky to keep his place..

  • 8 rainrix // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:16 PM

Cisse is starting isnt he? Ryder has obertan on the bench

  • 9 MosesNUFC // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:16 PM

    WHERES CISSE?????

  • 10 toonLYF // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:16 PM

Cisse is starting today (hopefully in the middle), Ed just missed him out of his line-up…

    Yes to moving to 433
Yes to keeping the ball on the ground.
    Yes to no Jonas
No to Cisse as a right winger!

    That’s good news.

  • 19 nufcusa // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:24 PM

Hopefully we play 4-3-1-2 with Marv behind Cisse and ba

  • 20 Jonny // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:25 PM

Surely Bigi, Perch and Anita have the beating of Scholes and Carrrick in the middle of the park for speed and strength. A weak Newcastle team but probably one of the worst united starting IX this season.

  • 21 Spreadthetoon // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:25 PM

Rooney not even in the sqaud….perhaps we’re doing a swap with Ba come January!

  • 22 Joe Blog // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:27 PM

Ba won’t be on the wing, it’ll be Cisse doing the donkey work, as usual.

  • 23 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:29 PM

    This is Cisse’s match

  • 24 El Sleeve // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:29 PM

great team, but i also am hoping its 4-3-1-2 as cisse cannot play on the right wing.

if we are playing 4-3-3, i wish pards would just assert his authority and put ba out wide because we know he can play there.

    HWTL!

middle of the park could go either way today.

Bigi, Anita and Perchy could give Scholes and Carrick too much respect and allow them to control, or they could hound them and let them know they’re there right from the off.

Will have a big effect on the game today, and Bigirimana could be key!

  • 28 Cool Hand Luke // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:32 PM

El Sleve, i hope Marveaux gets the #10 role behind the front two as well.

Probably the best lineup we can put out at this stage.

Was Jonas injured? seems odd that he was left out.

  • 29 L.ARAVIND // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:33 PM

this team is promising,,we can pull of a stunning win
    ….cheer up!!!!!!

  • 30 nufc_eire // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:34 PM

Happy with this team. Prob the best we could have put out. Would have preferred obertan to start and then bring on Cisse after 70mins to grab a goal.

By the way in case it hasnt been posted before there’s and interview with gutierrez on the guardian website

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/dec/25/newcastle-jonas-gutierrez-pardew-maradona

adam campbell,,this guy will be a great player for newcastle as well as england…he is like sterling…he reminds me of wishere and walcott in their early days….moment to cherish..hope he scores a goal today!!!

  • 32 nufc_eire // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:35 PM

Plus i think its set to be a 4-5-1 when we defend and a 4-3-1-2 when we attack. Prob the best of both worlds

  • 33 Mister Tuff // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:36 PM

Well Percy Parsnip has really changed things around. -now really looking forward to this game.
It is one of those games where we’ll either get a caning -or a surprise victory. If we do not collapse in the first half hour and the confidence grows we might get a win. They have a dodgy keeper -we have the surprise unknown sub -Ginger nut -love to see him come on and make a name for himself -skinning Ferdinand and Smalling with his super speed.

  • 34 Marty-Toon // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:38 PM

Lots f worried Manc fans with Giggs n Scholes in the same line up and Rooney isn’t even on the Bench.
Maybe we have a chance today as Rio should be too slow for Cisse n BA

  • 35 jimiley // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:38 PM

Jonas is injured so the replacement was forced on Pardew. If we lose, Jonas will never get dropped and Marveaux will carry the can for losing at Manure.

  • 36 Thump // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:40 PM

Strong line up. Should be an interesting game although if you offer me a draw, I’d snatch your bloody hand off.

    lmfao

i have said for weeks the squad is not bad, and so many have said it is why we are so low right now,,

this is one of the weakest teams he has feilded this season, and most think its good,,

    make your minds up

for the record,, i think the team is a good one,,
i think man u has a very weak MF

  • 41 Rotonda heights // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:50 PM

i wonder if pardew is remembering how player power went against him at him at west ham and maybe colo
and ba have made him have a re-think over wasting half the season on hoofball. I know if I was a player I’d rather listen to an Argentine international.

  • 42 sirtoongospel // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:50 PM

Decent team. The bench today shows though that our absolute priority in this window is a CB. Pleased Cleverly not playing as we’ll as Rooney. We couldn’t deal with them at SJP.

  • 44 mansize scotty // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:52 PM

  • 45 Krul to be Kind // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:52 PM

  • 47 sirtoongospel // Dec 26, 2012 at 2:55 PM

Weakest Manure team in a generation. Uor 1996 team would put 8 past them We could put 5 past a good Manure team. We have no reason to fear this team. Only fear itself and that might be the problem with Pardew in charge. Play for a draw and we lose easily because out defence is very suspect Go for the win and we win 2 – 1. I fear Pardew will go for the draw and pack the box. We lose easily especially if they score early. We have no plan B under Pards.

Best performance for me so far this season…really hope the lads can keep it going with the same intensity in the 2nd half. Marveaux our best player by a country mile, he plays on the flank, comes in central and with his off the ball movement he’s creating spaces for players and himself all over the park. IMO he must be in the starting line up for me everytime. C’mon lads gr8t 45 mins…..let’s keep this going!! HWTL

This is the way to beat manu, not park the bus ;)

Very positive first half, and a big bonus that manu are not able to create anything really.. they got a fluke goal.

  • 131 Toon1978 // Dec 26, 2012 at 3:52 PM

Man Utd will come out all guns blazing in the second. Ba need’s to look up more and pick a better pass instead of being tunnel visioned. Marveaux unlucky but Manu always seem to have everything on their side. Fingers crossed on this one…..they always seem dangerous everytime the attack but we can catch them on the break.

  • 132 alkinou // Dec 26, 2012 at 3:52 PM

    @rainrix

Big team bias goes both way. They would have had a decision gone there way, the media would also be all over them, so not sure they like it that much…

  • 133 Cool Hand Luke // Dec 26, 2012 at 3:53 PM

Excellent performance for a few reasons.

#1, Balance, Simmo actually going forward and beating players on one wing, Santon being santon on the other

#2 All 3 midfielders playing with a bit of fire in their bellies and pace.

Marveaux, thats the spirit, run at them and terrorise the back four.

More of the same in the second half lets hope.

  • 134 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 26, 2012 at 3:53 PM

I can understand the fuzz about the second goal – we would have made fuzz as well, but seeing it ar replay I can see why the ref let the goal srtand!

…it is an own goal and just bad luck for Man Utd. Another ref. might have called otherwise!

  • 139 ToonDownSouth // Dec 26, 2012 at 3:54 PM

Bigirimana and Perch may not have as much obvious quality as Tiote and Cabaye, but the Anita/Perch/Bigi combination adds SO much energy, pace and enthusiasm.

Cabaye needs to take a long look at them.

Also, Perch & Anita making runs into the box is one of the things we’ve lacked all season.

We should’ve won this game by now. I’ve always said that we have better players than Man Utd, it’s just Simpson and Williamson that’s the problem.

I always said that Marveaux should start in every match. Today he has proved that he’s a great player.

Can’t believe Simpson did so well in getting passed two players, but then put a ridiculous cross in. If we had Debuchy and Alderewield playing today, we would’ve easily beaten Man Utd. Van Persie and Valencia are their main threats.

    catchy

That sums up this football club for the past 10 years though. The players raise their game against the bigger teams, as do the fans.

There’s also the fact that against Manchester United, us only having 40% of the ball doesn’t seem bad – against Southampton it’s embarassing though!

Also, I understand why everyone is moaning at Ba for being greedy, but the guy is on fire at the moment. I’d rather he took a shot on than laid it off to Cisse, if I’m 100% honest.

Right half stepped up, left side dropped back – so poor – as much as it’s been a pulsating, engrossing match, this’ll be deflating and hard to take.

ToonDownSouth – no, that was my point. Wasn’t blaming Simpson, if Pardew/ Ashley had actually done something this summer we could’ve risen above mediocrity.

  • 351 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:02 PM

I was a great game to watch, but I think we throw it away ourselves!

…by the way why were our defense going for an offside on the last goal? Who would do that? That was just mental (there were absolutely no Newcastle players in front of Krul)

  • 352 jimiley // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:02 PM

Thats the worst Manure team since the 80s. If we could not beat them today we never will. They were there for the taking. We defended after 80 minutes and lost in the last 10. Typical Newcastle. The club has no self belief because we are only used to losing. When the going gets tough we fold. We won the league in 1927. We think silverware is a teaspoon.

  • 353 bambams // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:02 PM

such a poor result in the end…..Why the hell Pardew brought on Sammy when we are trying to protect a point !

I know he is a local lad, just cannot see this kid being anything more than a luxury player who may score the odd dazzling goal every 30 odd games.

We need some international signings that will improve the team.

thats the mackems 3 more points

  • 357 knottsy82 // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:06 PM

the rules of football clearly a red card cannot be given against manchester united at old trafford

  • 358 jimiley // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:08 PM

Its bollocks to talk of taking positives out of losing. Losses breed more losses. Its all about winning. They could not be in a worse frame of mind for the Arsenal game. If they had won, they would have been a great frame of mind. I tipped them to win today because Manure are so overrated. They should have won. They will lose at Arsenal.

  • 359 ipr12 // Dec 26, 2012 at 5:27 PM

Poor result – to score 3 away from home and lose shows how poor the defence is. Colo is starting to show the form of 2008-2009 which is a big worry. Good to see Jonas is being made the scape goat for all of the poor performances this season. Marveaux is too weak for the EPL and doesn’t work hard enough for the team.

Good to ses Cisse score though took it very well
