The Problems Mount Up For Newcastle – Now Williamson Out

We thought we may have a good chance of getting something out of the game at the Emirates on Saturday, but now Mike Williamson will be absent, and will be joining Jonas Gutierrez on the sidelines, and of course Vurnon Anita will also very likely be absent in London, after picking up an ankle injury near the end of the game at Old Trafford, when he had to be stretchered off the field.

Mike Williamson – misses the Arsenal game after picking up his 5th yellow card

This is what Alan Pardew said today about Anita’s injury and how it came about:

“I was upset with that tackle.” “I thought it got lost a little bit in the excitement of the finish. I don’t think Valencia has tried to hurt the player, he just timed it badly.”

“It is too early to say how long he will be out for, but it’s a bang on the ankle and we’ll have to wait and see whether he’ll make Arsenal.” “He would be a loss to us because I thought he was terrific.”

“You could argue our whole midfield from last year was out – we had no Gutierrez, Tiote, Yohan Cabaye or Hatem Ben Arfa. Our midfield did well though, brilliantly well.”

The Argentine winger Jonas Gutierrez will have an injection in his knee today,  and is said to be missing for the next two or three games, but it looks like we’ll go into the game at Arsenal with another patched up side – and it may be hard to come away with anything now from our London trip.

But we suppose the good news is that Cheick Tiote will return to the midfield, after serving his one match ban for picking up his 5th yellow card against QPR.

There seems to have been so many of our experienced players missing this season for one reason or the other – through injury or suspension – and of course it’s taking its toll on the side, with Newcastle now just 5 points above the relegation zone and on a terrible run of results.

What do you think?

Perch in for Williamson, champion that’s hardly a blow! Tiote for Perch and Obertan for Anita (not so good).

So, that’s Jonas, Anita and Willo out the next game, and add Tiote to the team again.
I think Perch will go in defense, Marv, Tiote and….? In the middle.

Anyone think our confidence is completely and utterly shot? Look how despondent Pardew looked and sounded after the game, then think of the players! it must be even worse for them.
It’s a downward spiral, because despite some good performances we’re still losing and more players are getting injured in the process.
I’ve got to say I’m a worried man, yes we look decent but we can’t defend and we’re pretty much giving away goals and it’s taking big efforts to score them.

Well I was gutted yesterday, was like a dagger to the heart, but what I saw interms of play was positive, with Marv Anita showing very good performances , Cisse putting another good shift in, and what a finish! We all know what we need and that’s defenders coming through the door, I think we can take Arsenal there defence is weak!

I think Anita may be the our biggest loss of this season. He works so hard and creates a lot of our play at the moment, Obertan and Marveux just cannot fill in for him. We need a box to box player with a hell of a lot of energy to lead our midfield by example against Arsenal. I’m praying for Anita to be fit. Tiote has been woeful this season and against arsenal if he gives away possession as per we are in serious trouble.

Willo out a problem!!! I don’t think so.

if we play like yesterday and in recent games, then I’m all for player power and Colo and the others telling Pardew they have had enough of his stifling, negative, long ball tactics.

Sorry but you kind of shot yourself in the foot by just saying and echoing exactly what Catchy was saying all along.

I don’t know why we played so much better yesterday and in recent games. Maybe Colo and the others have had enough of the stifling, negative, long ball tactics and given Pardew a piece of their mind. If they have and Pardew has listened, then great.

It’s not so much the injuries hitting us as we probably have the same amout as other teams and Marv is only now finally getting a game, it is havingWillo and Simmo.

Playing well and losing is killing us further, it’s almost as if we can’t do anymore. We have arguably the poorest defence in the league save for Villa.
This is probably why Pardew looks like a talking corpse.

This is one of the most disillusioning times I’ve had as a supporter, when we went down we knew we were bad and our club was in a bad state, we knew we needed to start afresh.
This time it’s a far worse feeling of dread, if we go down we won’t come straight up. We’ll lose so many of our players unlike last time.
We really are stuck between a rock and a hard place, if we do not bring in the players in Jan that’s it for us I fear.
If there’s any fannying about and we haven’t got the players we need by earl to mid jan regardless of cost squabbling, then my faith will wane dramatically more so than this last month and a half.
It’s the same old feeling as 2009, expecting to lose every game and it becoming the norm. It’s horrible after last year and inexcusable from the club as a whole.

    Catchy,
Im sure most of us would like to see a better manager in place but what you have to get into your head is that under a man who has given him an eight year contract Pards is going nowhere in a hurry, the only thing that might hasten his departure is a relegation and if that’s what you wish in pursuit of your objective then you really need to take a look at yourself and ask if you really are a fan.

Problem is that we never seem to learn that a good defence is fundamental. Remember the Arsenal Back 4.
We have let in far to many goals this year . No wonder we are near the relegation zone.
    Not rocket science.

Pardew is not the problem. Ashley and DL are. When they fail to add to a squad that is thin and needs support then it’s a problem. I said we’d be in this position back in september.

I wouldn’t play Willo the Wimp again! Give him a free in January.Rather have Shola at CB! He must play Fergie on the left at the Arse with Perch, Bigi & Tiote in the centre & Marvaux on the right. May only need one CB as Walcott seems to be playing on his own up front.

Lot of sense being posted. Let’s just hope that Wigan, Qpr & Reading don’t strengthen their squads. From the sound of it most Toon fans would settle for 16th or 17th as things stand. All you Simmo haters hang your heads in shame he is the best RB we have at the moment apart from Santon (& he can’t play on both flanks) We need his cover even if Debuchy or Pieters arrives. We need 2 quality CBs (Saylor too injury prone) & a solid midfield ball winner to cover January.

Simmo is not a bad defender – better than Santon imo – and that is the first job of a full-back. Having said that, he gets plenty of chances to get foreard and put a cross in and for the most part (our 2nd goal excepted, he is wodgeous.

perch is actually 5″11, not ideal for a centre back but not half as bad as the 5″7 u claimed. also against arsenal i would much prefer the speed of perch than the lanky snail willo.
