Ferguson Blasts Pardew’s Wee Club – But Shows No Class

11:16 am, Friday, December 28th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 342 Comments

Alex Ferguson has again showed what a nasty piece of work he can be at times,  by blasting Newcastle manager Alan Pardew for having the cheek to criticize his behavior to the referee and his assistants, during Manchester United 4-3 win over Newcastle on Wednesday.

alex ferguson 987

Alex Ferguson – looks like Manchester are getting beat?

Alex has way over reacted to Alan Pardew’s comments about ferguson yesterday, and he obviously has not seen the video of how Alan said what he said, but probably just read the papers,  who have again over-played Alan’s comments.

This is what Alex Ferguson said today in the Sun:

“I was demonstrative but not out of order.” “Everyone knows that. I am an emotional guy. But I was not abusive.” “It is unfortunate but I am the manager of the most famous club in the world. Not Newcastle, a wee club in the north east.”

“I shouted Mike over. We walked towards each other. I was only on the pitch three or four yards. That has been overplayed.” “The problem for me is that the profile of this club is huge.” “Alan Pardew has come out and criticized me.”

“He is the worst at haranguing referees. He shoves them and makes a joke of it.” “How he can criticize me is unbelievable. He forgets the help I gave him, by the way.”

That small club in the North East didn’t do too bad against the best club in the world on Wednesday afternoon – did they.

Let’s make this short and to the point – Alex Ferguson may be one of the best football managers of all time – but there’s a difference between that – and having some class as a person.

Alex has once again shown he is rather short of that last commodity – and what’s that thing about peace on earth to all mankind at this time of  the year?

We hope Alan says nothing in response to Ferguson’s outburst.

To be fair, Pardew is a hypocrite. Not to Say Sir Alex doesn’t lack class, he definitely does, but surely the person under scrutiny here should be Mike Dean? Why hasn’t he reported it? Until a referee actually has the balls to stand up and call him to task, then he won’t stop.

He’s obviously angry and frustrated by calling newcastle a “wee club” in the north east, i think thats sunderland he’s talking about. Umm, who beat man u 3-0 and 5-0, Last season, was our rightful place and Fergie knows it, top 6. Throughout his time at manchester united, he will know that newcastle are one of the biggest club’s in England.

    firstly,,

il defend the club, this small club has the 3 highest gates in the prem,,
above liverpool city chelsea and spurs, so we carnt be that small

2nd the dig,, again , pardew should keep his nose out of other teams business,, he has enough problems of his own at our club,, and its not like he is squeaky clean in this area,
but again, talking before he thinks,,

  • 18 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Dec 28, 2012 at 11:36 AM

Wow what Pardew said no where near demand that sort of reaction from Alex Ferguson. Ferguson had disgraced himself yet again

  • 19 Transfer Sage // Dec 28, 2012 at 11:38 AM

Pardew has every right to criticise ferguson…although fergie has a point about pardew pushing the assistant.

It can’t be one rule for some and a different for others. If the FA were serious about decent they would clamp down on this for all managers.

Anyway chaps, keep optimistic about tomorrow’s game….we’ll batter arsenal is we play like we did at old Trafford…rvp and Hernandez worry me much more than givinhio and giroud.

Also 3 to sign in January….not details of exactly who yet but from the little i heard 1 is expected to be remy and one will blow your minds

  • 20 croftus5678 // Dec 28, 2012 at 11:38 AM

the point pards was trying to get to was any other club manager that reacts to a ref like fergie did gets punished a la pard/wenger/mancini ect ect how is he a hypocrit by pointing out every other manager apart from fergusson gets punnished.

  • 21 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 28, 2012 at 11:38 AM

catchy….It was during a game with us. Isn’t it normal for managers to comment of matters from their own games? He also reflected on his own short comings in this area, not like he was pretending to be “squeaky clean”, is it? Come on, I expected a better dig than that.

when i watched the match i realize that fergy was shitting himself when we took the lead, the twat calls us a little club but we played better than them at there home ground, plus the third goal by RVP shouldn’t be a goal considering colo got whacked in the face by the tit.

IMO every club would consider the toon the most frightening club in the world we have the best supporters in the world and can beat any team out there for some reason i think Arsenal will be shitting themselfs today because against Manu we didnt have the best players out there but we played better at there ground and Arsenal would think we will get pushed all over but lets see what happens.

What’s gotten under his skin so much? The fact that a wee club from the north who are struggling for form took it to one of the most famous clubs in the world in their own backyard and nearly won? If the players don’t use that as ammunition in future games then they need moving on. Wee club from the north!! Sounds like the ramblings of a bitter old man losing his marbles, he will be sure to get a nice reception from me at sjp next year. It seems you cannot punish some people in the game nor question them

  • 35 rainrix // Dec 28, 2012 at 11:57 AM

Ah fergie you old dinosaur, fair enough having a spat with another manager but dont bring club size into it. Thats the equivilant of the old school ground “my dad could batter your dad. 😉

  • 36 Black and White with an army lol // Dec 28, 2012 at 11:58 AM

how can fergy say were a small club, funny fact ive been on holiday to 17 different country’s throughout 20 years and there’s always been a Newcastle bar were ever i go and im really surprise of the amount of foreign ppl that were wearing newcastle tops and no other clubs tops except Barca and Madrid, but believe it or not ive never seen any1 with a Manu top throughout the places ive been too.

  • 37 magpie6699 // Dec 28, 2012 at 11:58 AM

Transfer – Fergie has NO point about Pards pushing an assistant – that just highlights the difference! Pardew was apologetic and took a punishment from the FA and it will rankle with him and other managers that Fergie seems to be made of Teflon as far as the FA is concerned. I suspect that’s what made him come out with it.

  • 38 magpie6699 // Dec 28, 2012 at 12:01 PM

Anyone think it’s a sign that Fergie’s losing it for him to come out with his comments? Fair enough to have a go at Alan Pardew but to insult another club and its supporters – whether we’re Newcastle or (say) Hartlepool – crosses a boundary. The man is an obnoxious idiot.

At least we have proper fans not glory hunters that if they when like Rangers would F off. Also what is your budget? £50m our it isn’t even a quarter of that you probably think City are a bigger club than us. Well you are wrong only the old Big four are, because we used to spend lots on sh ite players ie Owen Bousmong. But no we spend little on good ie Ben arfa Cabaye Tiote. If we got the right owner who gave us £25m each year not including scales we would be better than Arsenal

  • 43 magpie6699 // Dec 28, 2012 at 12:06 PM

Following on from my comment at 36 – I see Wenger has joined in against Fergie saying there should be one rule for all. Of course Wenger was banished – by Mike Dean! – for kicking a water bottle.
Presumably that makes Arsenal a “wee club in London”!

  • 44 nick_9 // Dec 28, 2012 at 12:06 PM

Magpie it’s clear we have gotten under his skin, how dare we take the lead three times against the most famous club in the world eh? The lack of consistency is shocking from the FA.

  • 45 rainrix // Dec 28, 2012 at 12:08 PM

Manu one of the most supported teams in the world likely the most hated as well 😉

  • 46 Ian Toon // Dec 28, 2012 at 12:13 PM

Catchy@ 15 A New Year beckons but some things are unlikely to change! You still regard truth as a transitory, flexible concept which can be moulded to suit your current purposes. You really should not treat comments you don’t agree with as floccinaucinihilipilification .
Pipping hot mince pies applied to the thighs is too good for Catchy.
Finally, kindly explain, how you can have a fully valid opinion on the Man U game when I read that you didn’t watch the second half?

  • 47 Spotlight Kid // Dec 28, 2012 at 12:17 PM

Fergie takes great pleasure at winding up the Toon, its supporters and its manager du jour – ask KK. Judging by the reaction on here it’s job well done once more. Catchy, your ‘never mind the trophy room – look at the gates’ argument is a bit desperate. Using that logic we should simply build a 80,000 stadium and give away free tickets and we would be no1, ha ha…

Why this really hurts is because we all know Fergie is essentially correct if we are judging a club on footballing achievements. It is nothing short of scandalous over 57 years to have failed to land even one major domestic trophy. The club is now 120 years old – so work it out.

Year 2018, if no trophy has been won, will condemn NUFC to having spent the entire SECOND HALF its existence TROPHYLESS. How do you sell this miserable CV to Remy, or any other ambitious footballer, except with a fat pay packet bribe – which Ashley will never contemplate?

  • 48 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 28, 2012 at 12:22 PM

floccinaucinihilipilification that is probably one of the longest words in the English language 😀 lol

The longest word in Danish is ‘speciallægepraksisplanlægningsstabilliseringsperiode’. Try and pronounce that will you 😀

  • 49 Spotlight Kid // Dec 28, 2012 at 12:23 PM

..and don’t mention the Fairs Cup (or the Texaco Cup, or the Inter Toto…), I was there at all the ICFC games, it was great and very exciting – but I’m sure we would all have swapped that for thumping Liverpool in the 74 FA Cup Final, or even Man City in the league cup final.

  • 50 Mister Tuff // Dec 28, 2012 at 12:23 PM

The rant from “Red Nose” and his behaviour just demonstrates what he is -a bully. The football authorities are frightened of him – the incident also illustrates their shortcomings in applying the rules equally/fairly. I would also suggest that the incident in showing how weak the authorities are also illustrates their pathetic behaviour in dealing with racism – they do not want to upset the applecart or more to the point they do not want to upset Red Nose. The bit that upset me most was not having a go at Parsnip but having a go at the club ie referring to us as a wee club.
My predictions for the New Year (if anyone is interested).
    1. Minimum of three signings plus one top quality player.
    2. If a forward is bought Parsnip should lay the law down with Ba ie play where I tell you or you are out of the squad. If Ba does not want to play ball why should he be “showcased” by playing him in the team.
    3. Jonas’ “convenient” injury will rectify itself and he will be back in the team.
    4. Desite the positivety from the Man U game Parsnip will slowly revert back to his over cautious/1980’s style football -he will not be able to stop himself doing this.
    5. Percy Parsnip supporters, in the short term, will be emboldened and will re-appear on the blog, as prior to the Man U game most of them were “missing in action”.

I think the new Catchy has arrived.

Its just a matter of professional respect – the ‘wee club’ comment is a playground insult and not something that would injure a grown man. Its more insulting to Sad Alex that he demeans his position as a respected figure in the game by kneeling to make petty digs like a child. Not necessary, and if I were Alan, I would laugh it off for Alex’s sake as one of those embarrassing moments people put themselves through from time to time.

Ferguson may have won trophies but he is a classless manager who’s intimidation of the FA is clear for all to see!!

  • 56 Toon1978 // Dec 28, 2012 at 12:36 PM

Lets be honest, we are a wee club in the North East in comparison to the huge club that is Manchester United. Unfortunatly Sir Alex thinks he is a law into himself. He is a spiteful hateful man with little to no class at all. This is like Goliath throwing insults at David, i really hope we make SAF eat his words in the years to come but atm the man is right. Pardew should have kept his gob shut in the first place BUT SAF has spent his whole career as manager of Manure insulting referees and getting his own way. He has fell out with more EPL managers then i have had hot dinners. He need’s to remember he nearly got the sack all them years ago until fortune turned for him. Karma is around the corner SAF and it will hit you like a bag of sh1t.

  • 82 Toon1978 // Dec 28, 2012 at 1:09 PM

Because SAF won the game it gives him no right to belittle NUFC and bully the referee and officials to swing things in his favour. This club Manchester United is a club of huge stature and his team are world beaters so did SAF really need to rant at the officials to get his own way? This WEE club gave his world class club a run for his money and we had a patched up team. SAF should have kept his mouth shut, sat back and watched the game and be confident that his team would get the 3 points in the end, BUT that did not happen, he had to bully the officials to get his way. NUFC where ahead 3 times and lost the game, Manure where ahead 1 and won the game so we can’t blame Pardew for being a little p1ssed off can we?

lets see where his super club will be next season,,

i recon he will quit at the end of this one and that team will fall down the leauge a lot, i can see no reason why he would pop over to new york to have a chat to pep other than sounding him out about the job

this is the worst man u team he has ever had,

i would not take many out of there team and put into ours

    RVP, yes
rooney,, maybe,, i think he thinks he is better than he is,
    vidic, yes

but out of the rest, i wouldnt have them
    there keepers are both poor

there defence, is shocking for a team that is ment to be great, i think its that of a team in the lower half of our league,

    MF
player for player id take our MF – jonas
    giggs
    scholes
are well pasted it,, they where among the best players in the world, but not now

kagawa, i think will come good
nani, is hot and cold, for me valencia is there best MF

no i think when he is gone, it will cost hundreds of millions to put them up with the german and spanish teams again

  • 95 The Vicar // Dec 28, 2012 at 1:26 PM

If you complain enough, even if the complaint is obviously unjustified, then you WILL get a call the next time a 50/50 decision comes up. No one complains as much as Sore Alex, and no one gets away with it like Sore Alex. But the result is that he gets a lot of calls.

A lot of calls means a few extra goals a season. It just needs 6 or seven goals to boost a team’s points total but around ten points. Ten points takes a good side and makes it a premier league winner. And that is what Sore Alex has done. And it has happened since the premier league started, and it is the reason Kevin complained so much in the so-called “mind games” spat. Kevin was 100% right, all he failed to do was to stick the tail on the donkey (Sore Alex’s ample posterior).

The problem is that Sore Alex has friends in high places, principally the media. So when Kevin rightly complains all those years ago, the likes of the BBC and the late Brian Woolenough start on about “mind games”. No mind games, simply cheating.

My guess is that Alan Pardew will be hauled over the proverbial coals for his terrible attack on Sore Alex, whom the FA will reveal to be a helpless victim of an unprovoked attack.

    Just watch.

SAF was once one of the most respected managers in the world, i think now he’s losing his grip and struggling to match the modern demands of the Prem.
Only a matter of time before he’d going to stand down for the good of the club. He wont ever be sacked because of the succes he’s brought to the club.

One thing is for sure tho, the “neutral” will be leaning toward the blue side of Manchester for the title now.

I dislike Ferguson’s attitude but he is right to attack Pardew. Not the club but Pardew because is really a hypocrite what our beloved manager said. Yes he said the truth but after Tottenham’s game he can’t blame the other managers for attacking the ref. It’s about time Pardew to learn his lesson that he representive a big club… not only himself and to start behave himself.

Honestly when he came I liked Pardew’s style of speak… honest and sensible… now he is on the other side.

When you consider what we paid for santon, Anita, Ben Arfa, cabaye, and tiote it’s hard to pay more for an British youngster. Bigirimana for me is the most promising player we have and he got picked up for around a million. Sameobi, ferguson and Tav are all behind him in the rankings for me.

Watching The BA, Cisse relationship upfront Against Man U ..I resolved to keep an eye on it before the game ..

    Here’s my finding’s

BA Was Greedy ..And was very content to put himself in the shop window ..that’s what he intended it seemed , and that is how he played. exactly.

Cisse was in some great posisions when Ba had the ball ..but each time that happened Ba elected to shoot ..there was self promotion if I ever seen it ..

THe Frustration on Cisse’s face and the look he gave Ba each time told me the full story .

BA is playing for himself and a nice fat contract at another club. Its all about BA to the detriment of Cisse and the club .

Cisse will be fantastic with someone feeding him ..not ignoring him and shooting from way out ..which Ba does all game. Every game, but it was totally apparent At Old Trafford against Man U ..

Arsenal are not going to take a risk on BA @£80-90, Thousand a week ,,what with his suspect Knee and all …I can only see the likes of QPR at the outside taking a risk because of the way Tony Lashes money out around Qpr..

If BA plays for us he should be told to play out wide ,,and supply the best striker Cisse ..and if he wont t do it then bench him ..He,s playing for a move ..greed and ignoring Cisse was not for the better of the team on Saturday.

    @beattie that was cracking

  • 172 Beattie25 // Dec 28, 2012 at 5:32 PM

    Only joking.

Charlie Austin is a poacher and as a finisher is one of the best Centre Forwards in England (high praise I know) but his overall play is never going to see him play for a top, top club.

He could be the next David Nugent or he could be a solid PL CF but I would say spending £5 million on him would be daft when there are better options on the continent.

Trippier would be solid as back up but would never trouble the first team so again it would be a silly signing. He reminds me a lot of Simpson which to some might not be all that bad, but I’d look elsewhere. Everyone thought Nathaniel Clyne was the best RB in the Championship and he is struggling and I could’nt see Trippier doing any better.

If these 2 wouild cost £8 million I would’nt bother. The money could be used to buy better players for now at cheaper prices or players with more potenital for the future.

Anyway that’s just one mans opinion on the several games I have seen this season and the few last season too.

Jay Rodriguez was much better but far too much money and isn’t getting a look in at Southampton, should speak volumes really.

  • 173 ONLINE GUY // Dec 28, 2012 at 5:36 PM

Harry Rednpp possibly wont go for Ba as he already said the players are overpaid at Qpr . And PSG wont go for BA ..they will see him as a bench warmer.to come on if Ibra gets a knock. So if BA’s intentions are to further ambition and not money.. He wont be going there ..I suspect its Money all the way though ..but will he want to warm the bench at PSG…for money ?

I don’t think there is anything left for BA ,,no other club for him to go to ..he should sign his contract with respect for our Club, and feel lucky he has the chance.

I would lay the ultimatum down right now . Today

Then I would play him out wide if ..and only if ..I decided to give him a game …He would be providing for Cisse.

I hate this club held to some sort of restriction ..Its disrespectful by BA .. Pardew having to keep him sweet every game ..tell him to f*** off if he ‘s going, don’t play him. Dont give him another game.

I don’t think he has anywhere else to go though.

  • 174 Beattie25 // Dec 28, 2012 at 5:38 PM

Basically you get what you pay for. In Rngland if you spend 8 million on 2 players you get half decent cover.

In Europe if you spend 8 million you could get some class players.

I think the problem we have is the small amount of English players so Simpson and Williamson and Gosling have to stay as getting foreign replacements may take us over the limit.

If we are going to sign somebody English from the Championship we should sign players like Bigi.

That kid from Derby seems like a good bet.

  • 175 bills-son // Dec 28, 2012 at 5:43 PM

On Remy – its papertalk we have a deal agreed and its papertalk he is holding out to check his options. I know its interesting to discuss but 99% of the reaction to press rumours is a waste of time and effort.

Ashley fkd up in the summer and he HAS to get a minimum of two first teamers, preferably three, through the door this January. If he has to pay more because its mid season tough sh1t. I’ve supported MA because I believe he genuinely wants success for NUFC but if he doesn’t get decent players through the door he is gambling with relegation.

I’ll reserve my comments on transfers until Feb 1st.

  • 176 Beattie25 // Dec 28, 2012 at 5:43 PM

I guarantee that Ba will either stay or go to Turkey.

There he will get a fortune to play, potentially play alongside his best mate Moussa Sow and live in a mainly Muslim country.

I really believe that is where genus destined to go. Whether it’s this window or the next we shall see.

  • 177 drongo // Dec 28, 2012 at 5:44 PM

  • 178 gonufc (up and Hatem) // Dec 28, 2012 at 5:47 PM

But Austin is 23ish (I think) so isn’t young enough to just keep as a back up, if he’s moving he’ll want to be first choice or it’s a waste of time.

Sounds like paper rumours to be honest.

  • 179 davybtoon // Dec 28, 2012 at 5:48 PM

We don’t hav a small amount of English players we have rtaylor, staylor, Elliott, harper, Sammi, shola, Simmo, gosling, fergie, willo, ranger, Campbell, streete, tavernier, Krul

Then abeid, vukic, biggie, will all b classed as home grown, also we have players like Inman n dummitt who could b in squad next season

    Will hughes?
Yeah its hard to argue your point like you said look at rodriguez scoring for fun in the fizzy pop and can’t get a sniff at saints
£5 mil is a lot of money for back up but the prob is that if players like simmo are on the way out then they need replacing with homegrown players and just dont think we have the calibre of player coming through like
Trippier i agree on for me he’s half way between tav and simmo which ain’t great!!
Would love to see us put a cheeky bid in for someone like baines or richards but cant see it happening :(

  • 182 Beattie25 // Dec 28, 2012 at 5:52 PM

Sadly I don’t Remy will turn up.

When it comes to transfers we are so gullible its untrue. We get carried away, creating dream line ups and searching the internet to find transfer rumours.

With companies online it is how many hits, retweets or likes they can get that equals success and what better resource than we the Geordie faithful to get carried away in our quest for players?

If you ask me we will not sign anyone this window unless we sell.

If a bid is mad for Simmo we will get a RB, if Ba goes we will sign a striker etc…

We can see how desperate things are with our unraveling attempt to stop Shola playing at the Afcon.

With Saylor, Cabs and Benny coming back and looking at the summer when Raylor, Vuckic and Golsing will be fit again we can safely say Ashley will see our squad as being full.

If we sign 3 or 4 players I’ll be stunned more than ever before in my life.

I’d love some home grown players.

In an ideal world we’d get Butland as back up for Krul, that Maguire from Sheffield United, that RB from Leeds, the CM from Derby and Tom Ince/Matty Phillips from Blackpool.

Unfortunatley home grown players are far too much.

How much would this group of teens/early 20’s players cost?!

There is talent in the country but it is disproportionate to the cost.

harper will be retired at the end of the season
Simmo, gosling, ranger, i cant see being here next season same possibly with vuckic Campbell, streete, biggie Inman dummit are under 21 so wont be named

Nufc fans n management need to change there attitude when it comes to giving young players a chance

  • 200 nick_9 // Dec 28, 2012 at 6:15 PM

Have to agree with Beattie at 5:52. Pardew himself has said we want one player and if one leaves we will get two, two leave we will get three. We won’t be going for Remy unless Ba leaves and not allowing Shola to leave for the acon speaks volumes about our chances of replacing Ba quickly if he does leave. We have been remided by ‘a source’ that our owner doesn’t budge once his mind is set on a price for a player. It took the genius people running our club four months to decide that we undercooked our summer activity but one extra signing won’t change much this window unless we lose 2 or 3 as well and replace them.

Agree with Davy on youngsters. Look at players like sterling, mcechran, Walcott, jones, chamberlain all given a chance from a young age. If you’re good enough you’re good enough but some players do need game time, bigirimana for us looks to be the youngster most able to walk straight in. A real gem

My belief is that if the young uns are good enough they should be given more chances,if they’re not good enough, which I don’t think our current crop are YET,then they should be sent out on loan not kept languishing in the reserves because the squad is too thread bare to risk sending them out,if there is a long term strategy then surely this way of doing it is detrimental to its success, another bit of ammo to back up my claim that this five year plan is being made up daily.

Ferguson is up to his old tricks again. Trying to rattle our fans with those comments to take the spotlight off his antics on Wednesday. I’m not surprised the FA didn’t charge him, they have there favourites.

People getting annoyed over this is exactly what Ferguson wants. He knows we’re not a ‘wee’ club. Had we rolled over on Wednesday and got beat 4-0 nothing would’ve been said. He knows that we were the better team for 70 minutes and deserved to be ahead on 3 occasions. The fact that all this happened has clearly rattled him and he has shown his class ( or lack of it) today.

  • 213 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 28, 2012 at 6:29 PM

We’re crying out for a centre back for the first team and would love to see a wing back or more rounded full back come in as well. If we got those two in then we could make do with what we have. If we had an ambitious owner we could also ask for a box to box central midfielder, a genuine winger and a pacey striker. I would love to see us sign the likes of Debuchy, alderwiel, remy, Diame/sissokko and so on but unless players leave I cannot see it. It’s got to the point where I want the signings so bad that I’m starting to see losing tiote, Ba and Simpson as not a bad thing if it gets us five players etc.

Davy last I saw it was he would like 2 possibly 3 players and hopefully he is prioritising Defense. Would anyone take some loan players from man city? Lescott, Sinclair, Richards?

I agree with the loaning out of our young players.

How is, for example, Abied supposed to show his qualities or even lack of unless tested in competitive fixtures against men?!

He can play well against boys but Pards will not give him a chance in the first team so put him on loan. It really is simple.

We’ve got it all wrong on youth, recruitment and tactics for so long now.

I’d even take loans for the NUFC first team. It’s how we got Benny and there are some craking players not playing for their clubs.

Gamerio is one such player. Loan to buy, cost us next to nothing until the Summer and go from there.

    It won’t happen though.

  • 223 nick_9 // Dec 28, 2012 at 6:39 PM

Streets, Campbell, Tav, Sammy, ferguson and vuckic all need sending to the championship. No point sending them to league one and two, it might give them some fight but its no great technically, plenty of championship teams will take Newcastle united youngsters if given the chance. Sammy and co shouldn’t be near our first team yet as we don’t have a strong enough team to carry them. I’ve seen Pardew bring Sammy and obertan on when were trailing and the crowd are really hostile. All that is going to do is make things worse as its never pleasant when we are hostile

  • 224 Super Magpie // Dec 28, 2012 at 6:39 PM

Remember that Streete has just came back from a lengthy injury. It would be dangerous to start him because of that with him probably not being up to full speed.

You also have to take into account that throwing a youngster into a team going to the emirates on a shocking run of form and asking them to play CB is a very daunting task. I’m not saying I don’t rate the lad because I don’t know how good he is, I’ve never saw him play.

I’d recommend starting him against Brighton however. That way there will less pressure on him to perform and obviously against a lower standard of opposition.

It’s not just our young players who get injured. It’s gone on for years with all our squads. It’s pretty obvious to me that our there is something wrong with our training regime and facilities. Then our medical department isn’t up to scratch either.

All our injuries haven’t just been bad luck. Even after all these years not much has been done to stop these problems. I can only think of the underground heating being installed and that’s about it. It’s also well known that training facilities are nowhere near as good as other teams.

So, why is this? Well, I don’t know. But something needs to be done about it. I guarantee if we did improve our facilities and tweaked our training regime abit our injury count would start to decrease.

Personally think willo has put in some decent shifts this season and theres been no difference between him and staylor
As for streete my concern would be
    A) his fitness, as someone pointed out he’s just come back from a massive injury and arsenal play at a very fast pace, the physical demands of the PL compared to the reserve league is huge!
    B) if he does fail badly then our under fire manager would be under even more pressure as to why he didnt play perch there

My 1 player would be Nicolai Boilesen from Ajax.

Carbon copy of Santon with a left foot. He can play on the right and when we have a fit team we could do something really good.

For me Colo and a fit Saylor is a good partnership and if Pardew had any balls Benny, Cisse, Marveaux is a top 6 front 3.

The only position we lack any real quality is RB. Simpson is decent buy it’s the only position we need a first team addition. Everywhere else is a matter of depth.

We won’t, but we are always linked with defensive midfielders rather than centre backs or right-backs. I rather Rosales, Corchia and Debuchy are on our shortlist for the right back berth. Don’t be surprised if Simpson leaves and we make a last ditch attempt to sign Rod Fanni on loan.

We only need 2 midfielders. A Sissoko type and Boudebouz.

Strengthening the defenese is the most important thing as our defense has been costing us games. Even if Bassong and Beye were playing, we would be in the top 6 now.

  • 248 Super Magpie // Dec 28, 2012 at 7:15 PM

Another point about young players and injuries is them ‘burning out’. Lets use Wilshire as an example. He played for 18 months straight when he was 18/19 and then was injured for the following 18 months.

The same could apply to Saylor, Kieran Dyer and Shola.
These players were all played regularly in the early parts of their career and now look what’s happened to them. They’re all injury prone players. I fear the same may happen to Sterling if Liverpool continue to play him.

So even if Streete does start a game, has a stormer and subsequently becomes a regular in the first team, we would need to rest him often to stop the risk of him becoming the new Saylor.

I think he has the potential but as hard as it is to say, our record of bringing through youngsters isn’t the best so we could have a negative effect on his career. Harsh but true.

I hope Pards proves me wrong, but due to his many jobs over the past decade, he has no record over a long term period of bringing through youngsters.

The problem is is that Fergie, whilst wrong in how he approached the subject, is correct in his assessment.

Currently NUFC are a small team. We have a rich heritage, proud support and huge ambitions as supporters but in reality we have a unpopular manager, uninterested owner, we have been recently relegated, won nowt in decades and currently face a relegation battle. We used to be a big club but now are only the biggest of a select group of north east teams.

It isn’t Fergies place to say what he said but I challenge anyone to say what he said isn’t true regarding our size.

Liverpool are no longer a big team.

Past glories and future ambition count for nowt in the here and now, and here and now, without investment we are a small club.

The most famous club in the world at full strength – struggled to beat a wee club in the northeast (with 4 or 5 first team players out) and if fergie hadnt had a go at the officials at halftime pressureing them into giving his team every little decision in the second half – our wee team could easily have beat fergies “most famous team”. Fergy has done himself no favours and goes to show that he truly does believe he is better than everyone else. I can appreciate the success he has brought Man United but humility is a wonderful trait, and some of the greatest winners of all time had the humility to go with it. Fergy does not.

Every man and his dog knows we aren’t a “wee club” so I wouldn’t take the insult too seriously.

As for tomorrow’s game I think if we can show the endeavour and industry that we showed in our last game then we will be more than a match for Arsenal.

  • 284 Sazzer // Dec 28, 2012 at 8:56 PM

It’s not our defence having a bad season – it’s our attack.

Adding a CB might get us few more clean sheets and one or two goals on corner but it far from adding another 20 – 40 goals to those 23 we have already scored. If he has decent passing foot then Benny might get few extra balls into the box.

We need players that can deliver something to our attacking game.

We could argue that it is our defence for leaking sloppy goals, our midfield for not creating enough chances, our attack for not taking the few chances we create, or Pardew for all of the above.

What is apparent in the past few games is that we can score goals, we can pass the ball about, we can create and we can work hard, even with the injuries that have been sustained and the apparent flaws in our squad.

I have been encouraged massively from our performances from Wigan onwards, enough to say that we will be very far from a relegation battle. If we bolstered the defence and front line along with the return of key players we should still be able to secure a stable mid table position.

  • 290 Sazzer // Dec 28, 2012 at 9:20 PM

We have conceded two less than “wee in the west” and they are at the top of the table.

Our attack have scored some spectualar goals but not enough easy, sloppy and ugly ones.

With our attack being so bad. Every mistake we make defensively will seem to cost us the games.

The main reason we don’t have more points this season compared to last is that we have only scored 23 goals.

  • 291 nick_9 // Dec 28, 2012 at 9:36 PM

At the same point last season we had scored
26 goals in comparison to 23 this season, defensively we had conceded 25 goals in comparison to 30 this season. Pardew is right that if we was six points better off we wouldn’t have much of an issue, trouble is we are not and have been dire up until the past few weeks. Couple of decent signings and we should be ok, remember tiote is leaving for acon soon

You’re right. We have looked better. And it’s a combination of factors that have not worked. However, blaming our defence soly is wrong for most of our games this season. The Manchester games are the exception rather then the rule.

  • 293 Carryingcoals // Dec 28, 2012 at 9:39 PM

What is a club in any case?
Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it.
It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes.
It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride of your city.

It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.

    – Sir Bobby Robson

It’s irrelevant trying to qualify how ‘big’ of a club we are. Does it matter? Ferguson’s quarrel is with Pardew and not with our club. It was an off hand comment that the media have latched on to, but he’s let himself down. There’s no place for comments like that and he might be a bit embarrassed he’s said it.

Good teams are built on solid defences. That is why we done well last season. We kept 15 clean sheets and we could see out games we were leading/drawing in. But we were prone to some lapses- Spurs, Fulham, Wigan and Norwich.

This season we have struggled to keep clean sheets. More mistakes are being made too. We don’t have the same resilience we had last season and our best players have been off form.

  • 297 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 28, 2012 at 9:47 PM

    Sazzer

Yeah, totally agree with you. Our defence has been the reason we’ve got some of our results this season, most noticeably the Sunderland game and it has been a combination of poor creativity in the midfield, and lack of cohesion up front, on top of poor defending at times which have contributed to our poor league position.

The defence isn’t totally to blame but individual errors in the defence have been shocking at times, that includes the likes of Colo and Santon on top of the usual suspects.

  • 298 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Dec 28, 2012 at 9:54 PM

    Catchy

I think you make the wrong assumption that Pardew was solely to blame for poorer results earlier this season, yes he did make some mistakes that contributed to them but it wasn’t just his fault.

If the good performances against City and United are anything to show it’s that even with the injuries we are capable of good displays, and Pardew may not be totally responsible for this up turn in performance he does deserve praise for it in some capacity, just like he deserves some criticism for bad performances. Can you at least make that concession?

  • 299 Sazzer // Dec 28, 2012 at 9:57 PM

    Nick
Okay that goes to show that both our attack and defence have been bit worse this season. Fair enough.

Hopefully, we can find away to score 60 goals this season, and don’t let anymore than 25 goals more pass Krul in the goal.

If Pardew can get best of our squad it’s possible. If he add right type of player the odds increases.

  • 300 nick_9 // Dec 28, 2012 at 10:00 PM

Last season after 19 games, scored – 26 conceded 25 this season after 19 – scored 23 conceded 30. No great anomaly there over 19 games. Trouble is we’ve had Pardew focusing on Europe risking players like Ben Arfa or santon every odd game for no reason. Then we failed to really strengthen defensively or in attack yet every realistic fan knew we needed to strengthen a lot just to try and maintain position. We’ve then had some injuries to key players with no real strength in depth and Pardew sticking eleven players on the pitch and not a team. Those five games we all thought we could do ok in, you stick a couple of extra wins in their and suddenly the league looks ok and some fans can brush aside the performances. Whilst we were losing I think more fans noticed just how dire the performances where and how the team had no ideas. Thankfully we are starting to look more creative and have players coming back or hopefully coming in the window so here’s hoping it picks up. We may have finished fifth last season but we certainly didn’t play the magical football some commentators or fans have you believe.

  • 301 nick_9 // Dec 28, 2012 at 10:07 PM

Whilst every member of the Defense can be highlighted for individually costly errors I think the midfield has offered very little help early on, that’s why Anita has looked like an absolute blessing lately. Gutierrez isn’t a winger, he doesn’t do the job of a winger. Cabaye early on was shocking and even he said he was off form, many fans thought he had his head turned, tiote has been giving away sloppy passes all season and more worked about protecting his card count, Ben Arfa has the weight of the crowd and team on his shoulders, I think our Matchday strategy is give it to Benny or santon. Benny is a number ten so we have no real wingers creating much and not a lot from the fullbacks. Krul gives it away constantly As did Williamson and Simpson hoofing it.

  • 304 nick_9 // Dec 28, 2012 at 10:10 PM

The sooner we get Benny, Anita, marveaux, tiote, obertan and cabaye all fit out midfield should look a lot sharper and more creative, you add a couple of defensive reinforcements and it suddenly looks much better. The pressing we did against man united was excellent and the fort teamers who were missing have a lot to learn from that, last season they did it in abundance.

  • 305 mattyNUFC // Dec 28, 2012 at 10:16 PM

so excited for tomorrow. if we keep the same ethos we stand a real chance….don’t care who’s available

    HTL

  • 306 Sazzer // Dec 28, 2012 at 10:16 PM

    Nick
    I agree on every point.

  • 307 nick_9 // Dec 28, 2012 at 10:21 PM

Arsenal are there for the taking, no real fight like they used to. Williamson is out so I assume perch will step in at the back and Anita and tiote will be in midfield. Not sure who else will play though, perhaps obertan will get a start and…..? Marveaux maybe?

  • 308 nick_9 // Dec 28, 2012 at 10:23 PM

Don’t think Anita will make it so maybe bigirimana will step in the middle with tiote. Might have to go for a 443 again with obertan and marveaux in the eleven. Unless Jonas recovers or we find someone else to play cb so perch can play in midfield

  • 309 Transfer Sage // Dec 28, 2012 at 10:23 PM

Arsenal could be a good win for us.

They are out of form and won’t cope well if we play like we did at old Trafford.

I’m not saying it’s a nailed on win but we go into that game with a good chance to get something.

I imagine it will be the same team but with perch at CB and obertan on from the start

  • 310 Sazzer // Dec 28, 2012 at 10:28 PM

I read Anita might be out for this one and then be back. So then it’s probably going to be Bigi, Tiote and Marveux.
    Obertan, Ba, Cisse.

Arsenal have been looking bit better lately so it’s going to be tough. Still on a good day we can beat any team even with the amount of players out that we have.

  • 311 nick_9 // Dec 28, 2012 at 10:32 PM

Little omen for you all: man united had conceded 10 goals at home after 8 games, we then went there and scored 3 in the nineth home game. Arsenal play there nineth home game tomorrow against us having conceded ten goals in the past 8 games there.

Another 3 goals for us by my reckoning. 3:2 to the toon. Ba, cisse and obertan

  • 312 Sazzer // Dec 28, 2012 at 10:33 PM

By the way Sage, are we announcing somebody on Jan 1st?

  • 313 Super Magpie // Dec 28, 2012 at 10:37 PM

    Sazzer
Yes, of course you need to score goals too. But you can’t win things with a sloppy defence, although Man Utd are doing it this season.

Man Utd won’t be able to continue in the fashion they are at the moment. It’s unbelievable how poor there team is compared to others they’ve had and yet they are miles clear at the top. But they will need to tighten up because you can’t keep conceding 2/3 goals every game and expect to be successful.

  • 314 Super Magpie // Dec 28, 2012 at 10:43 PM

I think the advantage of Arsenal’s game being postponed will be our downfall tomorrow. We put alot into the game on Wednesday while they got to rest up for a couple of days. We seem to no luck either, so we’ll probably catch them when they’re on form. I can’t see us winning unfortunetly, even if we did play well at Old Trafford.

    Arsenal 3-1 Toon :(

  • 315 Sazzer // Dec 28, 2012 at 10:47 PM

    Magpie
I agree that it will be much harder.

  • 316 Sazzer // Dec 28, 2012 at 10:53 PM

    Crazy game 4-4 Cisse 2, Marveux 1, Tiote 1!
    Cazorla 2, Walcott 2.

    Good night!

Ba humbug pointed out that the 07/08season wasn’t a relegation battle, 3 points above the drop zone in mid March points to me it was, this reiterates my point that this is the third relegation battle under Mashleys regime, unless Big money is spent in January no matter what extra few million must be spent dye to time of year it’s time for us all to smell the coffee.

  • 318 Super Magpie // Dec 28, 2012 at 11:14 PM

    Jail
The problem then was Ashley gave us money to spend but Allardyce spent it on sh*t and ultimately paid the price. Keegan came in and took a while to get things right and then left when things started to looks up again.

Now, we have got some stability in the manager department but won’t spend the money to improve the squad.

  • 319 mattyNUFC // Dec 28, 2012 at 11:22 PM

    JfA

    def agree with you.

07/08 epitomized a relegation battle. maybe not quite like Wigan’s annual go at it, but a really nervy battle nonetheless

  • 321 Mister Tuff // Dec 28, 2012 at 11:42 PM

Just found a Red Nose quote page. This is a historical quote about Newcastle supporters:-
“They have those fans who are so emotional and fanatical, they expect to win the World Cup” (Alex Ferguson on Newcastle fans)”.
    What a horrible bloke.

    Super,
That’s a big problem, although at the time two captains a Spanish u 21 and Mark Viduka seemed like good buys unfortunately BFS, his style of play and being an ex mackem and his flirtation with relegation obviously gave Mashley cold feet.
    Marty toon,
In defence of Mactoon, I think he was only replying in such a way because Jesper whom I’m on the understanding has never visited SJP was giving out that because Mashley owns the club we have no say in how we think things should be done despite me and yourself spending thousands on the club, this I also think gives us the right to at least have our say on how our money should be spent.

  • 327 Mister Tuff // Dec 28, 2012 at 11:51 PM

online @321 -totally agree -he was having a snipe at the North East and Newcastle.
I see he banned Sky from todays press conference as they had showed him “challenging” Dean the ref on their programme today. He is a dictator.

look what fegy said in 2009

Ferguson on Newcastle and the Working Class
    MARCH 4, 2009
Sir Alex Ferguson has today reflected on past experiences with Newcastle, as well as stressing the importance of football to working class communities.
“I remember when they cuffed us 5-0. They are still selling the video,” said Ferguson. “It was an exciting time for Newcastle then. They had some exciting players: Les Ferdinand; Faustino Asprilla; and David Ginola. It is a fantastic football club. Everyone has got that black and white strip on and there is real football passion. I walked through the town with Archie Knox once and a news vendor was shouting ‘Mickey Quinn has an ankle injury’. The world could have been in turmoil, with disasters and financial institutions collapsing. They were talking about Mickey Quinn’s ankle. That sums up the city. Working class communities seem to develop these things. Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow. They are football cities. People have a passion for football as an outlet in life. It proves one thing: the only thing a man can never change is his football team.”

JFA…you can go back to the thread and read what I wrote and better you can read in what context it was written as well – there is really no point in trying to intrepretate what I what saying as it is there for the taking!

…I have been misquoted to much as it is in the last month!

  • 331 ba humbug // Dec 29, 2012 at 12:54 AM

My son in law is a Manure fan, and okay with it as he never brags. Most of their fans are glory hunters though, and if they weren’t up to some strange refinancing deals they’d probably be heading for receivership under the Glazers.
Pity about SAF. Such a great manager such a sub-human

I reckon the line up will be something like

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~Krul~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~Simmo~~~Perch~~~Colo~~~~Santon~~
    ~Obertan~~Tiote~~~Bigri~~~~Marveux~
    ~~~~~~~~~Cisse~~~Ba~~~~~~~~~~~~

There’s a chance Ferguson may start ahead of Obertan/Marv.

  • 334 soundoid // Dec 29, 2012 at 5:28 AM

    Sod SAF,

Hope west brom take a leaf out of our book and attack them. We very nearly did them over that’s what he’s pissed about. We move on, he has a boxing day hangover. We need a point or three for this wee little club.

In the immortal words of Ozzy Osbourne “you meet a lot of people on the way up, don’t f##k with them because you meet them on the way down too”

Man United’s time at the top will be short lived. We have shown the way. We are Newcastle United.

Ferguson has proven himself a rotten sport everytime.

Knight of the round table he is not. Chivalrous Knight he is not. He makes a mockery of his own gong. The po faced b/itch’ll probably vote for Scottish independence and tell the Queen he’s a Unionist. Funny how snotty Scots get about the North East.

  • 337 89Norcal // Dec 29, 2012 at 6:03 AM

    @ross #327

That’s just proof again that Fergie shows his true colors as a classless, bitter old bastard when put into a corner. He didn’t even stop his rant at Pardew, he had to go on and insult NUFC because we nearly beat him on his home turf with substitute midfield.

Ba Humbug…nah you didn’t really miss much; either the MacToon and I were talking pass each other or the point he was making had nothing to do with what I wrote to him (either way I am still not sure what he was trying to say)

…the discussion is dead as far as I am concerned :-) I read JFA’s interpretation of the discussion and that was and example of what happens when something is taken out of context (seems to happen alot these days in here)

old red face wouldnt have said that when bobby was alive , so who is the hypocrite ?

  • 341 fergiefan // Dec 29, 2012 at 12:02 PM

How would you Newcastle fans like it if someone at your work tried to get you in trouble by slagging you off in public? You all know that Pardew was bang out of order and he is a smug hypocritical cockney to boot.

Fergie is a man who supports fellow managers, players, former players and all sorts of charities and the common man. He was right to tell it as it is. Behaviour like Pardew’s is unacceptable ……. Fergie was passionate …… Pardew was just sucking up to the FA while calling Fergie behind his back.

The world would be a better place if there were more people with the backbone and strength of character he has (and Sir Bobby Robson had too) …. shame there aren’t any politicians of their calibre.

As for him winding you lot up I can’t believe so many of you have fallen for it!

    Ho Ho Ho

    Merry Christmas
