Newcastle Challenge Liverpool For French Center-Back

There was a report in Le 10 Sport in France yesterday, that Newcastle have become interested in Nicolas Isimat-Mirin, the 6’2″ Valenciennes and French U21 defender.

Isimat-Mirin

Nicolas Isimat-Mirin – 21 year-old French defender

The news is that Newcastle have been tracking the youngster for some time and are now keen to sign him, although Liverpool have also been tracking the player for a while now, and may have a head start on Newcastle.

Valenciennes are doing well in Ligue 1 this season and are currently in 6th place on 29 points, just 9 points behind league leading Paris Saint Germain.

Apparently for financial reasons his French club are looking to sell at least one of their players next month, although a loan in January through the end of the season is also not out of the question.

One reason Newcastle may be interested,  is that the youngster has only eighteen months left on the three year contract he signed in 2011, and that was a year after he moved to Valenciennes from Rennes.

Newcastle must bring in new defenders next month, as our defense is again the Achilles heel of the side this season, and we have only three experienced center-backs available, and one of them – Steven Taylor – has been out a couple of months with another hamstring injury.

The report in Le 10 Sport suggests that Liverpool may be looking to buy the 21 year old in January, but then loan him back to Valenciennes for the rest of the season, and that’s apparently something the French club would be willing to do.

Isimat-Mirin’s value is said to be up to £4M, and that’s within Newcastle’s budget, although he will be one for the future if brought to Tyneside.

Isimat-Mirin made his debut for Valenciennes in 2010, and he has played 5 times for the France U20 side and 3 times for the U21 side – and he has appeared 68 times for his current club and scored 3 goals.

Liverfool can outbid us in any attempt to bring this lad to us.

If Vallenciennes are so strapped for money they will keep putting the price up a la Lille and FC Twente style until any further attempts to get him will be just out of our price range !

We could, however barter anyway, in which case we push the price up for the scousers and piss Liverfool off big time.
Knowing, of course that we,ve no chance of getting the player anyway! At the same time managing to go for one of our other transfer targets, of which there are many?
Lets face it, there,s a different name on here every day?

Wonder who we will be suddenly be after tomorrow?
Will someone please explain to me why this lad is,

” one for the future”? If Liverfool get him he will be going straight into their starting line-up whereas, if by some miracle, he came to us then he is straight away labelled as, a future prospect , “One for the Future”!
I would try and get him and play straight away, signing someone and not playing them is not going to give anyone the motivation to come to us!

If Liverfool are after him too, we are,nt going to get our man anyway? We will be out-bidded!

What’s the deal with Anita? Gave him the nod as MOM, as I thought it was so cruel what happened to him: just when his game was reaching new heights, he gets that kind of kick. Valencia should know better, he’s had his leg busted in the same way. And how about that Marveaux dude? Can Cabaye knock either of them out? I’d play them both ahead of Cabaye, especially given the latter’s form this year.

After Cabaye becomes fully match fit, I don’t see Marveaux holding him off for the starting spot. He’s France’s starting midfielder after all, and he was doing ok before his injury.

Anyways I figured we would be targeting younger and more affordable defenders, since Douglas is looking less likely. Hopefully some Ligue 1 buffs can chime in on this guy’s ability.

Expatmag – spot on makes me sick when we sign a 19/21 year old they are labelled one for the future it’s a complete joke, take Inman n dummitt for example they are everything that’s wrong with are youth system both 21 n hav only just gone out on loan this season they shud hav been on loan 3 seasons ago n in our squad at 21, by the way both these players will b Nufc players in the future, we did the same with biggie n Curtis good bought them n straight away they were one for the future I hate

Cyprus – cabaye ain’t the player that shud b dropped for Anita or Marv it shud b a striker, we need to play 4231 with tiote Anita sitting then cabaye behind ba/cisse n Marv n benny either side we won’t see cabayes best stuff unless we see him in this role

If he’s ‘one for the future’ no point getting him in we need one for now plus we don’t do well with ones for the future

As for Marv/Anita over Cabaye no chance he is our star midfielder

An excerpt from a pardew’s quote

“Really and truly this window is the key, I think, because if Demba goes in this window, it will cause us a problem.” “I think he will stay, but there’s a possibility he could go because of the clause that’s still in force.”

Is it me or does it sound like no striker in regardless?

4321 could work with those players but we don’t rotate our strikers so unlikely to happen

Romain has barely played don’t think he’s one for the future atm he looks like one for the nameless memories

Wwycd – we won’t ever see what Cabaye can truly do unless we him in a 4231 behind the striker like he does for France, n ba is off so we don’t need to worry about rotating him or cisse

Wwycd – I just don’t get amalfitano not being in the squad, but then again it’s took a season n a half for pardew to realise marv should b starting games, are you telling me fergie n Sammi are better than amalfitano not from what I’ve seen they aren’t

Streete back fit now? I think sticking him against Arsenal in his first team debut when the team are in trouble would be asking a bit much of the lad though

As for Cabs as a CAM Tiote looked his best with Cabs next to him and without him looks bang average what’s best for cabs may not be best for the team. Also he’s one of the few who drop back to get the ball from defense

Wwycd – yea streete is back fully fit been in full training for a month n was part of squad for man utd, I would stick him straight in me like he’s gonna have colo next to him n perch n tiote in front to help him out

Maybe amalfitano just isn’t that good, he was free and from ligue 2 tbf always seemed a squad depth player one the cheap to me

If it was a lesser team Streete could of gotten some minutes but this is Arsenal away we’re talking about the kid would get taken apart Colo has been fairly poor by his standards this season same goes for Tiote and Perch has no place in a NUFC starting 11

Wwycd – typical toon fan to scared to put a young lad in the team, from the way your talking you think we will get beat so why not play him anyway, who’s to say he won’t hav an absolute blinder n keep his spot then all of sudden we hav an extra cb option but we will never kno that bcoz toon fans n toon mangers are to scared to play young kids

Newcastle united are always window shopping for players when it comes to the transfer market.

Seen this kid a couple of times in Ligue 1. Still young, so doesn’t have the composure of Colo, but has plenty of positional sense, and potential too.
