Lack Of Defensive Cover Hurting Newcastle Big Time

9:24 am, Saturday, December 29th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 7 Comments

Newcastle have only three experienced center-backs – but we knew that in the summer-  so it’s a bit pointless to now complain we are short of defensive cover, after Steven Taylor has again been out with a long term injury this season.

Mike Williamson - suspended today

But that’s what Alan Pardew has done today, as he says some of the late goals Newcastle are conceding in games, that is losing us so many points,  is due to him not being able to replace the defenders, because he just doesn’t have the players available to bring on to give them a rest.

Well if that’s the case how come we didn’t bring in some new defenders in the summer – so let’s face it and be clear – this is a self inflicted problem and a huge mistake that the club is now paying for.

This is what Alan Pardew said today:

“We’ve had a lack of competition in the defensive department and you could argue a couple of our players looked tired against Manchester United.” “Losing Steven and Ryan Taylor really hurt us this year.”

“That lack of competition means we haven’t been able to rest one or two, or even bring players on in games when the players in defensive positions are getting tired. We could have done with some extra legs for the final 20 minutes of games.”

Versatile James Perch will move into the center of defense this afternoon in place of the suspended Mike Williamson, and let’s hope we don’t give up points again today by conceding late goals, but if Newcastle are going to recover in the second half of the season, we must bring in at least a couple of defenders in January.

But the proof of the pudding is in the eating,  so we’ll see what the Newcastle Board do before February rolls around.

Rest one or two, I think he would be better off retiring one or two.

Ed you’re busting my balls with these super quick articles lol. I can’t discuss anything with fellow bloggers when there’s a new article every 2 minutes.

Anyways I am glad you’re as enthusiastic as ever and I hope you had a Merry Christmas and continue to bring these great articles all next year. Hopefully we’ll do much better in the next half of the season, my God do we need to. Another relegation would be the end for the club I feel, we would not recover. That won’t happen (I pray it won’t).

Anything out of today’s game is a bonus.

I think we should have signed Mbiwa, Debuchy and Douglas. We still can but I highly doubt we will. Those three will undoubtedly solve our defensive problems and make us more of a threat during set-pieces.

Good morning, I don’t think Douglas is the answer, he is not much better than what we have,

Pardew made the decision that he had enough cover this season with 3 and he admitted they ‘under cooked’ it with transfers in the summer. So why make this comment.. it will only hit a raw nerve with many supporters

Williamson Will Not Be Missed . Let us all see how we fare without him. We wont get much out of the Arsenal game but wont let ourselves down. Howay The Lads..
