There are several reports in today’s Sunday papers that Newcastle are keen on 21 year-old Valenciennes 6’2″ center back Nicolas Isimat Mirin, who we initially reported on a few days ago.
Nicolas Isimat Mirin – Newcastle interested in young center-back
Apparently for financial reasons his French club are looking to sell next month, although it seems that Liverpool have stolen a march on Newcastle for this player, but after yesterday’s capitation at Arsenal in the last 20 minutes of the game, in which we conceded a staggering four goals, we definitely need some new defenders brought into the squad next month.
We knew we were short of a central defender throughout last season, after Steven Taylor injured his Achilles in early December – but for some strange reason Newcastle didn’t bring in another center-back during the summer transfer window.
That’s nothing less than bad planning and leaking 11 goals in our last two games may just alert owner Mike Ashley and Managing Director Derek LLambias to the fact we need some new defenders brought in.
If we fail to get any new players in during January, then we have only ourselves to blame if we are enmeshed in another relegation battle through May.
This lad looks a good player and at an upper limit of £4M, his price seems reasonable, and at least he could become the fourth center-back at the club, and in front of James Perch, who is being used as an emergency center-back this season.
James does well in several different positions for Newcastle, and of course he always gives 100%, but against top teams like Arsenal he is sometimes caught out in the skills department.
We’d like to see three players brought in during the January transfer window, and with Yohan Cabaye and Steven Taylor back in he middle of next month – hopefully things will start to look up at Newcastle very soon.
Howay The Lads!!

It depends on the player, the situation and the team.
If Van Persie had to play 3 games in 7 days he would, as he has fantastic conditioning but he doesn’t have to due to the squad depth at Man Utd.
Look at all the teams from Leuage 2 upwards, look at the European leauges, look at how many games that Barca have played this year and how many times the big p;layers have been rested.
Look at the job the armed forces have to do. Running miles, hardly any sleep and fighting every day.
Tiredness is the biggest cop out ever. If this is what we are like now, imagine what we’ll be like come Mach, April and May.
It was a mental issue last night, not a physical one.
Anyone who says any different is stupid.
There has been many similar games in the past where one team has had more time off than an other and gone on to win.
Pardew treats them like boys not men. Real men say they were poor not tired.
They’re just not good enough, too relaxed knowing they have no competition and put simply just don’t care.
Santon has been the player of the season so far so we can forgive him one game.
Everyone else, Simmo, Colo, Willo, Saylor and Krul have been poor all season. So what? They were tired when we got beat by West Ham, Swansea, Fulham etc..
It s another excuse from Pardew.
5 gaz 44 // Dec 30, 2012 at 11:24 AM
too brother ya talk shit .. he’s the best defender at our club by a country mile.. he has to cover santon when he goes off on his runs then has to cover Williamson more often than not.. don’t wanna slate perch because he did decent but he did throw himself in at wilshere when he crossed and was supposed to b making giroud when he scored his head

Do you really think its a case of rating fergie higher than marveux?
You do know that marv has missed nearly 2 full seasons of football over the last 3 seasons and has just come back from a huge injury and surgery?
Has occured to you that his match fitness/sharpness was not there hence playing a few europa games and cameos before starting some PL games?
He’s a player who is proven to be very injury prone when bought back too fast i highly doubt its as simple as “pardumb” doesn’t like him its a football club lad not a play ground
11 Spuggy // Dec 30, 2012 at 11:33 AM
This is what I think needs to happen in Jan/Feb:
- Sign a quality pacey CB
- Cabaye, Anita, HBA and Jonas return to midfield
- Jonas and Marveaux rotated
- Cisse played centrally and Ba moves to 2nd striker or left. Otherwise drop or rotate one of them.
Then in Summer:
- Sign a technical creative 2nd striker/winger
- Sell Gosling and Simpson
- Sign Debuchy ( I doubt we will get him in Jan but if so great)

SCAPEGOAT LIST
1 Alan Pardew, always the most popular choice for the majority of posters who CBA to look further than one thing.
2 Simpson. Blamed by one poster last night for being responsible for at least 5 goals. Pretty good going considering he was only on the pitch for the first 4 when we were at least still in the game.
3 BA scoring another two goals clearly not enough. If only we could rid of our top scorer all our problems would go.
4 Colo. well it was bound to happen sooner or later
5 Santon. You know you hate to do it but you just can`t help yourself.

Be quiet you mug. Colo has to babysit all the other defenders hence he can’t even do his own job. Danny Simpson is sh*t, I never used to mind Simmo but he can’t even defend now & he offers nothing attacking wise. Willo makes so many mistakes & Perch is a DM not a CB. Santon as well is superb attacking wise but defensively it’s a problem, Jonas’s is job is to cover him & now he’s injured Obertan is not gonna do that.
This Mirin lad looks good & tankish so get him in for £4M & bring in a replacement for Simpson (preferably Debuchy but don’t mind as long as they’re better than shoddy Simmo).
Remy would be icing on the cake but no matter if we do not sign him as our attack looks good now with Obertan & Marveaux providing good chances for Demba & Papiss.
Get pre-contracts agreed for Sissoko & Douglas then we should be sorted. Of course if Ash wants to splash some small fees for them then hey ho get them in now but come on that won’t happen.
2 NEW DEFENDERS is a MUST this Jan. Anything else is a bonus!
17 Kyo // Dec 30, 2012 at 11:40 AM
The only scapegoat should be Ashley. He is responsible for the club. After not backing Pardew in the summer we are where I said we would be.
I remember being called a Mackem and negative by Dannyo and a few others. Where are they now?
It’s not Pardew’s fault. Sure he hasn’t been perfect but without financial backing I will not be calling for his head. We passed the ball so well last night. With some solid defence we can beat anybody.
18 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Dec 30, 2012 at 11:40 AM
A bit more sense in the correspondance this morning.
Yes 7-3 was not nice but the first 70 minutes and and 80 mins against Man-ure was some of the best football we have played for many a season.
Fitness: Remember how many of the players playing have played a full 90 minutes of Premiership Football. They reckon you need at least 3 games to get up to speed. That was Marvo’s 2nd 90 minutes and Bigis in a row. Anita had just had 2 full games before being injured.
19 toonbrother // Dec 30, 2012 at 11:41 AM
@tads, i dont recall saying pardew doesnt “like” him. If his earlier treatment was down to him being injury prone or unfit, he could have been eased back in -coming in as a sub or being subbed off after an hour like ben arfa was when he first joined. Pardumb has gone from one extreme to the other -from shutting him out entirely in favour of ferguson and jonas to overrelying on him – playing him twice in the space of three days. That strikes me as not appreciating the player’s qualities until things got desperate. I have no doubt marveaux would have made a huge difference in the matches against lesser teams when Pardumb froze him out opting to play 4 defensive midfelders + Jonas instead

Same with Jonas over Marv this season but now look Sylvain is back & we would be reaping the rewards of his creativity if our defenders could defend. NEW CB + RB PLEASE!

If you read gaz’s post in it’s proper context I think you will understand that gaz was not suggesting Willo played last night but what Colo has had to do alot this season when he has been partnered by Willo.
To resolve the defensive frailties we can only hope this window has been prepared for thoroughly and discussions have been ongoing for a while rather than bustling in on the 1st Jan.
Personally I would accept any offers for Tiote (if they are still there) and can only hope that we can bring in Debuchy, Sakho, Pieters, Sissoko and Remy. We dont need any young potential in this window.
As for the summer, hopefully, we are still in EPL and then we can offload Simpson, Willo. We will know the situation with Ba so focus can be given to new CF’s to replace both Ba and Shola (retires with a bit of luck).

I agree that Van Persie and many others are physically in better shape than our boys and mentally too.
Think how it must be for some of our top players, when ya have Cisse at RW and Simmo behind him, then you have Willo who actually played well last year but who the ball looks hot when it comes to him.
I have played football for years in the league but not at the same level of course but when you know that one or two of your team mates are serious lightweight and you have to cover them continually it gets fec-in tiresome and very downheartining.
As AP stated we’ve got young lads on the bench that shouldn’t be anywhere near 1st team that says it all and certainly won’t help their futures
25 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 30, 2012 at 11:46 AM
Maybe I am the only one, but I still don’t think buying a new CB is going to save that defense – there is somwthing completly wrong with our positioning and highline zonal marking.
…it is the way we set up our defense that is the problem (sure buying a new CB and RB won’t hurt, but it won’t really change much).
We need an anchorman safeguarding the defense – I thought it was Tiote’s job, but I have absolutely no idea of that he is doing!
The defensive part of our gave needs to be adressed I think (4 goals in 20 min. I am still baffled)

its both,, not just pardew, he sets the tone, the players follow
i remember a league game a few month ago, pardew came out with we had a lot of tired legs out there towards the end, meaning the team had played in the EL, what he forgot was he made 9 changes to the team,,
how did we have so many tired legs
yesterday, ars, not playing would have had an impact, for sure im not doubting that,
but pardew made changes that back fired, last week v QPR he started with the wrong team, made subs that changed it, and got praise for it from you lot
yesterday, i have no clue by what he ment by no more goals,
no more goals defensivly??
or attacking
surely if he ment deefensivly they where already trying to stop them
and if it was for us to try and hold onto 3-3, why bring on shola and ferg
shola is lazy and slow, ferg is a winger where would those help defensivly?
you have to accept that we are where we are because of poor team managment for all 20 games,, not just the last 2
this season his record has been worse than JFK, no one defended him for his record
injuries can only be used in the last few games, not the whole season so far

28 tequilamag // Dec 30, 2012 at 11:47 AM
It would be harsh to say the players don`t care. For the majority of the game we more than held our own. Once the 5th goal went in it was like the team collectively hit a brick wall, whether that was physical tiredness which I can understand or they mentally switched off knowing there was no way back I don`t know, probably a combination of both.

Catchy with the amount of players out Pardew had very few options. He brought Fergie on for a Simpson which I would have thought you approved of as you have been singing his praises all season. Result 3 goals in 9 minutes.
Shola came on for Bigi , hardly a defensive substitution and Tav for Marv but the game was gone by then.

the crap that most people write on here is ridiculous and uncalled for. If people want to try and demoralise our club i suggest you stay away from this blog. We all know Pardew is playing his best hand at the moment and he is down to the bare bones to the fact we havn’t got a bench at the mo due to injuries. How could he look at the bench to change things in the last two games which are arguably our two hardest away games of the season. Fair enough our defence just isn’t good enuf against world class forward’s/midfielders, but how many teams score 3 at them two grounds. we are playing really well also defending really poor but lets face it i was proud to be a toon fan over the last two games regardless of the score. how many fans get to cheer goals at them two grounds. we did 6 times. get behind our team, manager and club and we will be ok second half of season when our key players return and any additions we aquire

When arrogance takes over it is a poison without any cure.
Even in the face of a 7-3 mauling some of the players will be satisfied. One issue is Pardew’s own arrogance. If he had an ounce of humility or honesty, like Hughton, he could knock the arrogance out thorough being humble about the quality of our team.
Pardew has let them become arrogant and refuses to let kick their arse publicly. The only way to beat arrogance if you are arrogant as a manager is to be better, bigger and more arrogant than your players.
Look at Mourinho. What would he do? He would criticize the players that need it. Ferguson would move them on. Wenger would get them believing in their arrogance. Moyes would let them know who’s boss. Pardew just let’s them get on with it and makes excuse after excuse.
Many wouldn’t want their manager to openly criticize players in the team, but lets see what happens if Simmo was publicly chastised for not giving a shit anymore. If Colo was criticized for not being a leader. If Tiote was criticized for no being with it mentally. If Krul was criticized for not playing well.
There comes a point when injuries, tiredness, Europe, lack of investment etc… becomes too much and you have to look at it for what it is. The players have been shit from day 1.

We are playing much better believe it or not. The problem being we are starting to get form when we are in the middle of our hardest run of fixtures and our injuries keep piling up.
We have done extremely well to score 3 past Man U and Arsenal. To come away with that with not even a single point is hard on everyone connected to the club. Some individual performances like Santon, Simpson, Krul perhaps and Cisse (out of position) are to blame for the heavy loss against Arsenal. Tiote wasn’t much help either. Bigirimana, Marveaux and Obertan were on everything good v Arsenal. It’s such a shame that the awful result overshadows their brilliant performances of late.
Bigi was everywhere and made Tiote look less than average. He was spreading balls across the pitch with ease and was full of running and hard on the tackle every time.
Marveaux – Showed that he too can dazzle like HBA. Some quick feet and sublime touch , pass and move was evident again. He is now showing us all how much he’s worth.
Obertan – Very positive and attack minded and hardly put a foot wrong. Very quick feet to get out of trouble and make a good pass on countless occasions. Ran his socks off both offensively and defensively and a great move and assist to set up Marveaux’s goal.

@TADS . Sorry but anyone who has followed the team knows the penny has only recently dropped in pardews head as per marveaux Had it not been for our excellent midfield display our appalling |Central defence would been exposed alot earlier in the game. Tiote -though sloppy at times- was central to the midfield dominance we enjoyed for 80 minutes against one of the best passing teams in Europe. That i believe is his primary role as a MID|IELDER. Noone had more touches in the entire game than him. We didnt miss jonas one bit in my opinion Bigirimana played his role ably until pardew took him off. I would say that was one of the best midfield displays ive ever seen by newcastle united. Unfortunately the best midfield in the world cannot compensate for a joke of a central defense like the one we have
54 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 30, 2012 at 12:09 PM
I might word it differently, but Beatrice has a point about arrogance!
…some of us even talked about it in the summer saying it might become a problem for us, and it sure was evident in the begining of the season!
That is one of the reason’s why I have been soo oposed to blaming this season on lack of transfer activity (it is just of the problems that adds to everything but hartly the culprit)
55 toonbrother // Dec 30, 2012 at 12:10 PM
Though neither Williamson nor Perch is what i would call an elite Centre back, neither player is a bad defender either. The one constant in newcastle’s defensive collapses over the last two years has been colocinni. Go and watch the first half against Arsenal in the famous 4-4 (had diaby not been sent off that game wouldve ended 8-0 btw) , or the 5-2 thrashing at Fulham; the 4 goals at Man U or the 7 goals yesterday. What do those central defences have in common?
Like i said before when the going is good and we are playing keep-ball he looks a million bucks. Full of poise and elegance. But when the going gets tough and we need a two strong CBs to stand tall against an attacking onslaught he falls to pieces. We cant keep ignoring the obvious

Simpson-positioning terrible
Perch- 100% commitment, lacks in quality
Ferguson- hate to say but never going to make it at highest level
Orbetan- hasn’t got a football brain, blind alley’s
Tryin not to be negative but I think most on blog would agree on players above?

I think obertan has been excellent the last couple of games. Really looks up for the battle. Cisse should have been on the bench really – Simpson was battered down that side of the field coz of slow tracking back.
And also simpson not being that good.

Fitness levels are a worry. If it was me I’d be having them swimming, doing aerobics, yoga and all sorts for fitness and injury prevention, alongside normal training.
66 toonbrother // Dec 30, 2012 at 12:20 PM
@TADS they were both shocking defensively. Unfortunately only one of them has a PRIMARY job of being a DEFENDER! I’m quite frankly amazed at the intellectual dishonesty of so many fans here. Looking for one scapegoat after another to blame for these abject displays in central defence. Now we;ve run out of centrebacks to blame we turn to midfielders and fullbacks. Tiote did not play a part in conceding 4 goals againt ManU. Williamson did not play in part in us conceding 7 goals at Arsenal. |Colocinni played a central part in both yet fans here keep contorting themselves in different ways to absolve him of any blame
67 Beattie25 // Dec 30, 2012 at 12:21 PM
All the elements have combined to bring around this poor form. We all secretly knew it was going to happen. Some of us where in denial, where as others openly admitted we would struggle this year.
None of us really believed we would be in a relegation battle but are any of us really surprised?
For me the first 2 weeks of Jan will be pivotal. If we sign some decent players then I say give Pardpoo till the end of the season and then be done. Signing players is a sign of ambition and if we are ambitious we need to upgrade Pardew as much as we need to upgrade Simpson or Williamson.
If we don’t sign anyone then we need to be rid of Pardew. He ultimatley cannot get the results with the little he has. Yes his hands are tied but we cannot think of that when we need 3 points. If there is a manager out there who is available, better and can get the best out of these under performing goons then we need him. But who would wan’t to come to Newcastle with no investment and an owner who is obviously thick when it comes to footballing matters. Perhaps Pardew should walk whilst he has any respect (or even status after last season) if there is no investment.
Either way we need to see action from a board level. If nothing happens not even Cabs and Benny can save us.
Biggest month in the clubs history? You bet your ass.

Beattie you have a real gift for dramatising! Who would u suggest would come to a club 15th in the table, with no funds to spend, an owner with an itchy trigger finger and unforgiving fans? Oh. They’ve also got to better than pardew and also not a puppet.
It’s not a long list.
70 Iain Dowie // Dec 30, 2012 at 12:24 PM
Wow some of the people on this blog. Colo is our best defender and you want him dropped?. The fact we concede too many goals is down to the fact our fullbacks spend most of the game upfront and our other CB has no positional sense or pace. Pardew needs to have a word with the defence cos too many times this season we have been caught with 2 defenders at the back while the rest of the team stand and watch while we concede to a counter attack.
71 Rotonda heights // Dec 30, 2012 at 12:24 PM

You have a gift for not reading my posts.
I said that nobody would want to come.
Thats my point. In reality we are stuck with Pardew unless a miracle occurs and a big name manager fancies a bit of a challenge.
We need massive investment from the board but that is a likely to happen as Pardew being replaced.
I have a terrible feeling that Ashley will put his trust into Pards to turn it around and that Pards believes he can without too much investment.
If that happens I think we could be screwed.

76 Iain Dowie // Dec 30, 2012 at 12:29 PM
Also teams are coming to us and treating us like a top 6 team, they come to our place and defend and hope for a counter attack. The majority of our home games we have been dominating possession and not finding a way through, therefore we over commit too many players making us wide open for a counter attack which we can’t defend against with possibly the slowest defence in the league. We need shape to our team and composure when attacking rather than reverting to crosses from deep (usually from Simpson) because we have ran out of ideas.
77 tequilamag // Dec 30, 2012 at 12:29 PM

No
Why am i laying blame with tiote aswell? Well his main priority is not a dedender surely you cant argue that if he continually gives away the ball just in front of defence as were looking to attack then he must take a chunk of the blame for putting us under uncalled for and immidiate pressure!
Everyone sitting round me yesterday looked absolutley petrified when tiote got on the ball some were even groaning when he got passed to
His confidence us shot the difference between tiote and colo is we have players in the squad who can step in and replace him, easliy at the moment too

i know most will be happy,,
but im not coming back on here until the man pardew is gone,,
i find it amazing that, over 20 games this season, the sets new records for for things we dont want him to set new records for, and still ppl want to back him,
if you look,, ppl are having a go at tiote, colo santon cabaye, cisse , some of our better players
then they stick up for players like simpson
the one common theme in all of this is pardew
no its not all his fault, and we should have bought a defender or 2 in the summer,, but to take a team that finished 5th, with some of us thinking it could have been higher, to now a team 5th bottom
after every game you go on as if it is just that game that has been bad,,
no matter who he has had availble this season, he has stuck with jonas and simpson, refused to try other options unless forced upon him
the first 10 games were a total joke, he reacted to the other team in nearly every match, we never started off fast,
in those games we played to defensivly to many long balls,,
i find it funny that you guys are defending him for playing long ball by ssaying look we are passing now,,
why could he not do it back then with his better players?
ba or cisse, not in the same team unless your going to support them with chances
cisse has not created one chance out on the right, so what is he doing there
yes his hands are tired to a degree,, but he is not blind, and we have a better squad than he has made out,
POOR POOR manager
bye bye

Alright guys. Watched the game with an arsenal fan. ,y thoughts
As bitterly disappointed as I am about that result I’m not gonna get too distraut about it.
For a good chunk of the game we played decently and we showed we have goals which is promising.
Unfortunately we sloppily gave the ball away too many times against a team with that pace.
Cisse may be improving his ball retention on the wing but that was a gam not a training exercise and we can have him out there being half as effective as someone else could be. It brings us down to 10 men. It will have taught him some good lessons to bring back to a striker role but ATM iris a waste.
Tote was woeful. Terrible passing.
Simpson seems to have given up on us. Don’t think the fans bullying him has helped his morale at all which is a shame because I think he has been and can be a solid defender.
We played a high line against Walcott ffs so what did pards expect.
To say no more goals at 3-3 was silly too. Bad tactics when we still had a stake to claim I that game.
Everybody was ball watching for Podolskis goal. We are woeful at clearing a ball. Just knock it to the edge of the box to another opposition player.
Bigi outclassed tiote and should get more games.
We missed a lot but we especially missed Anita today. His work rate would have made that midfield more solid.
Goods: opbertan, marv, bigi, Ba
Bads: krill, colo, Simmo , santon, tiote, cisse ( nothis fault though)
I’m confident we can beat Everton though.
The minute Giroud came on I knew we were done for. I’ve said to many ignorant arsenal fans that he is a striker with quality and he tore us a new one.

The amusing thing is that the day the news (true or false) is published in a French newspaper, all of a sudden all the ITK clowns crawl out of their holes. Unfortunately for them it’s 2012, and hence fairly easy to read a French newspaper from my armchair in Bath.

@Ibiza and all the others.
Yes, this is a very serious newspaper and in France, this kind of press never take risk.
So if they say it, it’s probably because they got confirmation by both the clubs and also Debuchy’s agent.
Furthermore, this the Newspaper of lille area, so no one got better informations about the club.
They say this:
“Mais la conclusion de l’affaire ne fait plus aucun doute : Debuchy sera Magpie pour les prochaines années.”
Wich mean:
“There’s no more doubt: Debuchy will be a Magpie for next years.”
They would not engage the credibility of the Newspaper at that point without serious informations from inside the Club.
Sure, this football, everything could happen. But for me, this is done.

Newcastle have agreed a £5.5m deal to sign Lille full-back Mathieu Debuchy who is set to fly over to Tyneside in the next few days.
The Magpies have chased the French international for almost a year and came close to pulling off a deal for the 27-year-old in the summer.
Debuchy is preparing to leave the club he grew up at and embark on a new phase of his career, but he will be welcomed to the club by former teammate Yohan Cabaye – who was also part of Lille’s double winning squad of 2011.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is desperate to give his squad a boost after back-to-back defeats at Old Trafford and the Emirates Stadium, where the Magpies have conceded eleven goals.
Debuchy is unlikely to be available until the FA Cup third round tie at Brighton on January 5 and Pardew will want to have a good look at him in training to assess his match fitness before pitching him into a Premier League match.
The Fretin-born defender has made 15 Ligue 1 starts for Lille this season and last played in their 1-1 draw with Reims on December 15.

This is the end of a beautiful story between a boy and thought of the club of his heart. Since starting this summer and missed, something was broken between Lille and Mathieu Debuchy. Since then, the side struggled to smile again and his best, although he eventually evacuate the frustration.
But then he thought to finish the season, despite his departure from the council of elders, despite the departure of Landreau, the side saw the situation accelerate suddenly Newcastle need reinforcements when he comes to collect eleven goals in two games against MU and Arsenal, Lille and need cash. This time, the two sides quickly agreed, at least in spirit, while the final details are resolved at this very moment. I used google translator.

The council of elders is an idea of Lille’s coach, Rudy Garcia.
This a group of 5 or 6 players who help him to manage the team.
Wich is common, except in Lille, they got an almost official role.
186 croftus5678 // Dec 30, 2012 at 1:29 PM
i would rather top priority be a centreback tbh agree we need a lb and i do think its harsh we are calling simo as when he came off we looked a hell of a lot poorer and he is starting to get some decent crosses in the box atleast now.
considering our injuries out mid/forward play was great.
tiote i thought had an avg game which is bad for him and the defence including collo and santon were poor at best.
collo and santon are normally top class though so i will not call for there replacements but they do need some better class alongside them.

toon brother you are an absolute idiot seriously have a massive word with yourself!
I’m new to this blog and just had to sign up and get in amongst this debate, coloccini is an immense centre half but lets face it he is a 1 man defence
Simpson – how he made it this far as a defender in the PL i will never know
Perch – is a DMC dogged brave body on the line but not good enough
Santon – i like going forward even if he is hughly predictable but his defensive capabilities are woeful
Williamson – Good in the air but far far to slow and gives away way to many needless fouls
And that is our defence people! One point to note regarding the game yesterday theo walcott took tiote out twice on the 5th and 7th goal take a look i cant beleive no one picked up on this clear as day for me.

also to get rid of those 5 agents will be a blessing in disguise.

278 bills-son // Dec 30, 2012 at 2:33 PM
If Ba wont sign a new contract with us its best he goes asap. His refusal to play out wide is also comprimising Pards and the team. I reckon Cisse will get right back among the goals if he plays through the middle and we need to replace Ba with a pacy forward who can run the channels. Remy imo would be ideal because he is also good in the air and can play as a genuine wide man if necessary.

Tds lukaku is on loan for this reason. Chelsea play with a high midfield, playing hazard, mata, oscar all off the striker, ba may play but not unless torres is injured, you dont keep a 50 mil current form player on the bench. But then agian for 7 mil for ba, im not surprised. More infuriated that we are one of those teams that players are at for the interim. No way we can build a squad when every time someone half decent comes along they are at risk of being transfered. Just feelin a bit batterd and bruised atm mate.
292 Special K // Dec 30, 2012 at 2:39 PM
I know we’ll be sad to see Demba go, the lad’s done well for us but for me the only shame is that we’re only gonna pocket £5 and it could easily have been £15m. With his knees it wasn’t a bad idea to have get out clauses for both sides and let’s see how he enjoys the Chelsea madhouse anyway.
I believe a side of

———————Krul——————-
Simpson-Williamson–Coloccini-Santon
———-Anita–Tiote–Bigirimana——–
Marveaux————————-Obertan
——————Cisse/Ba——————
Extra man in the middle so that we can safely sacrafice one of them to help out with Evertons threat down the left.
We could definitely get a result if that team contained and played a careful game, whilst maintaining some of the attacking threat we’ve showed.
We’re a better attacking team than Everton, they’re just far better defensively.
298 JackButler // Dec 30, 2012 at 2:40 PM
How ironic would it be that after walking away from us (the only club that would touch him after downing down with West Ham) that Ba get’s his 100k a week contract at Chelski and his knee blows up
299 sanchez // Dec 30, 2012 at 2:40 PM
Some positives:
-Despite shipping 11 goals in 2 games our midfield and attack have generally given a much better account of themselves in these last two games. Whereas they have looked toothless for most of the season.
-Bigirimana has looked good all season and is ready to fill Tiote’s boots
-Marveaux and Obertan are finally starting to come good.
-This 7-3 could be the catalyst to jumpstart our season again. Questions have to be asked of such a horrific scoreline. I even think we will sign a player in the window.
-Jonas can’t really attack because he’s lost too much pace but but he is still a good left back. That’s where we should be playing him. He does need to benched for a couple of games to remind him that he needs to work for his place. Don’t know how that’s a positive, but there you go.
Some negatives:
-I don’t know what happened to Tiote. I used to love the guy. Can’t make a decent interception and has no control of the ball any more. Now it seems he can only pass to the opposition. He was HORRIFIC yesterday. There have been many games where he has let us down this season (derby esp) but that was something else. How often does he lose the ball outside our box leading to a swift opposition break (first time he did this was early on in the 5-1 on halloween :p)? If I were AP I’d bench him for a month at least, then either sell him or hope it gives him a kick up the arse. We will be lucky to get 5m for Tiote if we do. QPR might have him.
-Substitutions. Listen, I think AP is a good manager. A good man manager, anyway. I think he is tactically stubborn though. Ever since he joined I have always believed this has been his downfall. That heartbreaking 3-3 against WBA was a class example of this. Pardew knew the squad would be more tired than Arsenal’s. When we were drawing yesterday he needed to have the tactical nous to get us something out of the game. It was sink or swim and he bollocksed it. Bringing Shola on doesn’t really help in that situation. He’s for when we’re beating the likes of Fulham at home and we’re trying to wind down the last 20 mins. Or desperately trying to beat bottom of the table QPR. Not when we’re chasing a game at the Emirates.
-Shane Ferguson, despite having a sweet patch earlier in the season, can not defend. At all. He is not, and never will be, a defender. You’ve only got to look at the size of him. He should be playing on the left wing, coming on for Obertan late in games. There is still promise left in him if we do this.
-”Ba and Cisse can’t play together”. What a load of absolute twaddle. Of course they can play together. They’ve been showing glimpses of it recently. It looks very promising. The notion that they supposedly can’t play together is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Ba needs to be playing a slightly deeper role, as the ‘target man’ if you like, he likes to come and get the ball. Cisse likes to sit on the shoulder of the defence. How does this suddenly not work? There are loads of teams who set up like this. The problem is AP playing one of them on the wing. At times they are 50yds+ apart from each other. How are they supposed to form a strike partnership if they are at practically opposite ends of the pitch? It was assumed when Cisse came in, they already had a partnership from playing for Senegal, when in fact I don’t think they had ever been on the pitch at the same time up until then.
-I was going to slag Willo and Perch but they’ve been decent last few games. Not Perch’s fault he’s 5’7 and is asked to play CB. I still think we need to replace Willo. No disrespect but I don’t think he’s cut out for the prem.
This should be our team when the squad is fit.
Krul
Santon, Colo, Saylor, Jonas
Anita Cabaye
Ben Arfa
Ba Cisse
Anita and Ben Arfa can drift outward to supplement wide attacks. Marveaux and Obertan are perfect impact players so leave them on the bench.
Also, Europe has very little to do with our league campaign crumbling. Many other factors.

I am on the record for wanting Ba to stay. His contribution has been immense. I thought he was our best player yesterday. Watch us now p155 about not signing another striker for three or four weeks ‘struggling to find value’

Ba leaving doesn’t guarantee cisse goals but it gives him a better chance.

Disregard my last comment…nick_9 makes a good point. At the end of the day if we could have several first team strikers, enough to have someone like ba warm the bench, then i would be happy so can see why chelsea want him. I preferred the good old days before social media.
Sat for hours watching teletext, waiting ages for the page to come round linking NUFC with a player and having to stew over it on your own or with mates.
Now every cock comes from nowhere believing Debuchy has signed and Demba has gone. Some are already slagging off Demba and Danny Simpson before anythings happened.
What if we have to keep them both? Why would they give their all with knobs having a go at them?
I’ll be the first to say Danny Simspon isn’t the best but all this premature ejaculation is embarrassing and potentially damaging.
355 Graeme // Dec 30, 2012 at 2:56 PM
Cisse with Remy Loic (if he comes) could be a far better partnership than Cisse / Ba – they are different types of player so shouldn’t be falling over each other half the time!!

Exactly WWYCD, we could have done with a third choice striker anyway but now we might have to replace our leading scorer for two seasons. There’s no guarantee Cisse will start scoring again but I certainly hope we give him lots of service so he can try.
As for Ba it’s pittance but I cannot see him getting many games at Chelsea unless he plays on the wing, he is ok technically but n that good. I think he will either get frustrated at Chelsea being wasted or he will need to really find his feet early on to challenges Torres. Oh and Chelsea come to st James on February 2nd

Transfer – Hi. It does look like a good deal for him. But if he goes we need to get quality in straight away and not rely totally on Cisse. I would hope that it could be a seamless transition. Anyone coming in cannot be always expected to hit the goal trail at once. Remy would be a good fit and provide more fluidity. I hope Ba stays.

368 LGFUAD21 // Dec 30, 2012 at 3:00 PM
Ba going may be a blessing in disguise,
I am confident in cisse to get goals in the right position and it’ll allow us to play a more balanced and suitable formation by getting Marveaux involved more.
Santon has a few goals in him, I reckon Anita does too.
Btw how bloody good is Baines?
369 Nufc-83 // Dec 30, 2012 at 3:00 PM
Im not saying don’t buy a st i am saying we don’t need to go out and buy another no9 type of player for millions. Bring in a young no9 and look for a good wide player aka remy. People saying cisse out of form is harsh its clearly affected him playing out wide and also with ba who is the greediest player to pull on a black and white shirt. Cisse will bang them in once back in middle
370 Mister Tuff // Dec 30, 2012 at 3:01 PM
Ba is a top class inform striker. If he has been bought by the Russian Mafioso – it ensures that another club will not have his services to affect their (Chelski’s) ambitions this season. Simple case of buying up any opposition.

Don’t kid yourself that we have a ready replacement for ba in cisse.
No way cisse could have held the ball up and played that lone striker role like ba did yesterday.
Get real if ba goes we need a replacement and we’ll not get one of his class for less than 20 million.
But u can’t run a team with a player that has this get out clause hanging over his head every window.
If he’s not going to sign a now contract then it’s right to let him go.

376 fray bentos // Dec 30, 2012 at 3:02 PM
My view on the game
The scoreline does not reflect the game as a whole, we played well and Pardew set us out well tactically and we were probably the better side in the 1st half.
But the reason i think we did not win is because we constantly gave away possession cheaply and allowed them to punish us with their fast counter attacking football, the constant loss of possession was mostly Santon, Bigi, Tiote, Cisse & Simpson and i thought it was mainly a lack of technical ability, experience and awareness rather than tactics. Our defence was poor but they kept getting hit with low numbers by a very fast and competent arsenal counter attack with excellent finsihers and most defenses would have conceded several goals againt that, it was always going to be a high scoring game.
We then went all out at the end for the equalizer and were unfortunate it went their way then once they got the 5th we capitulated, i think we were unlucky and could have easily have won if things had went our way.
I think many of our players just aren’t as good people think they are, sure Santon has his moments but he is sloppy and gives the ball away sometimes, the top class players don’t. Bigi should not be starting in our team yet, yes he is good and could be amazing but starting away to Arsenal is just not what you want, Simpson had quite a few attacking opportunites yesterday but did nothing with them, he needs to be replaced.
If Ba goes and Cisse gets his chance to play upfront by himself again, it worries how well he will be able hold up the ball when things aren’t going our way and thats what we need.
After the last 2 performances i really can’t see any chance of us getting relegated, but we need more signings and hopefully Debuchey will invigorate Cabaye if he comes

Suppose so, guess many already resigned to the idea of losing Ba, I prefer Cisse anyway not quite sure why tho suppose it has to do with last season.
However if we sell Ba we need another striker as well as 2 defenders, so Simpson going Ba going that’s 2 out I wonder who the 2nd in is going to be……

Yeh it would be good If he stays but it’s too disruptive to the team I think now, constant speculation won’t help.
Ba and cisse don’t play well together as they both look to score goals.
They need to play up top alone or be with a striker who is a creator or hold up player (ameobi, Heskey, etc)
It’s neither of their faults that they get played together or one gets played out wide…that’s the job of the manager.
If we had signed another forward or winger in the summer and had a fully fit team I imagine pardew would have dropped one and used a bit more rotation. As it is they both have to play and one is sacrificed for the team.
382 ToonDownSouth // Dec 30, 2012 at 3:06 PM

Whatever happens with Ba is beyond the clubs control. He deserves to be paid on a par with the other players of his quality, and he’s good enough to be challenging for titles – and clearly that’s what he now wants.
The guy’s been leaving for a year now! It’s creating a bloody circus. I’d much rather lose him in the summer, but if it forces the club and Pardew’s hand to freshen things up a bit then that’ll be a positive.
Cisse is horrific out on the right, we just have to hope that he can start banging them in again in a CF position.

I agree cisse needs to play down the middle but I’ve seen him miss five or six chances that last season he would have scored, he blazes his shots over lately but the one at old Trafford was a good reminded. We need him central with good support and service. Anyone watching Chelsea Everton see pienars goal? That’s the support we need in the box and what Anita brings.
If we can go out and sign another striker straight away I will be happier but I can’t see it. Wouldn’t be surprised if we see how things go against Everton before seeing how urgent the need for a striker is.

Shame to lose BA even though his place in the centre has been awkward for Cisse and the team as he’s the one that’s been scoring.
You might say well he’s in the middle it’s easier to score-correct,but he’s much Better than Cisse at gettin in the right places this year.
Cisse has been constantly caught offside when played in the middle lately
We’ll hopefully get someone in quickly and hopefully see Cisse bangin them in too as we know he’s capable of it.
If the rumor is true then thanks Demba, you’ve been top quality for us.
Hopefully the new player can strike up a partnership with Cisse and both can score like Cole or Shearer used to for us.
If the Debuchy link is true then we’ve got a top player in although the wrong side of 25,we’ll get 3/4 good years out of him.
We’ve got the makings of a quality team,we all see that if everyone was injury free then we’re just a couple of players short.

Jagielka, Distin and Jelavic pretty good.

QUESTION
Is it possible that Pardew was more correct than we gave him credit for all along?
We all moaned about our defensive style – however when we start playing real attacking football, we concede 10,000 goals.
Is it possible that Pardew just knew that our defense is not good enough, and needed a lot of protection?

Remember Pedro coming back to Toon with a pay cut, those were the days. Farewell Ba, enjoy the bench.
488 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 30, 2012 at 4:01 PM
Ba is better than Aguero and Van Persie in the air and is also better at striking the ball from long distance, so he’s the better player. He is also probably the best striker in the world at the moment.
Abeid is quality. You said Marveaux was poor, but I was right. He’s been our best player for the last few games and is the best ball distributor in our squad.
489 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 30, 2012 at 4:01 PM
@ TDS
I don’t think so m8. If you look at all of the goals conceded in the last two games at least half of them were schoolboy errors like not looking along the line or having a throw in at the edge of our penalty box and throwing it straight to an Arsenal player. Against lesser teams playing like that we will concede 1 or 3 at the most, however it is another thing playing that style against the big boys

In the end Ba or Cisse have to go…
1) They are both no 9′s style players
2) They’re both africans and are lost to international duty for ACoN
3) They don’t play well together, never have, never will
4) Ba doesn’t want to stay
5) Cisse will regain his form of old once given a central berth
6) It free’s us up to buy a proper supporting creativel 2nd striker with pace
7) According to Pards we’ll bring two in so we’ll have a CB to boot!

Toondownsouth – I don’t think so no, we have been leaking goals all season from individual errors and it was more of the same at old Trafford and the emirates. A lot of the goals were down to individual defensive mistakes and man united out three past us at our place anyway so four at theres isnt bad for the style we played. Arsenal was more defensive errors as tired legs, 4:3 wouldn’t have been an issue it was the extra three goals

That’s a difficult one though. For example, Ba is a very selfish striker, and has been scoring a fair few goals because of this. However, how many times have we had players in better positions and Ba has opted for glory?
In this case of course, Cisse is terribly out of form – but just because a player is banging in the goals doesn’t mean that it’s not at the detriment of the team.
Very few of Ba’s goals come as a result of selfish play – only missed opportunities and pot shorts from 40 yards.

Last season Coloccini excelled in a good number of games. This season I can really only recall the Mackem game. He has had an indifferent season largely because he’s having to cover for the appalling slow witted technically poor Simpson and the sometimes shaky and technically poor Williamson. We really could do with a few
experienced PL defenders on loan to steady the back four. Simpson played as if she’ll shocked for the last 15 minutes and I would be delighted if he just doesn’t feature again.

516 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 30, 2012 at 4:23 PM
Falcao is the best striker in the world at the moment in my opinion. Ba is a close second. Ba is miles ahead of Van Persie.
When Pardew says ”we’ll sign two players if one leaves”, does that mean two players in the same position as we need at least 2/3 new strikers to come in?
517 Ian Toon // Dec 30, 2012 at 4:23 PM
Transfer- just think for a moment of the number of instinctive goals Cisse has scored. If he gets the ball in the box he’ll. score. Consider the Obertan ball for Cisse’s goal against Man U. Ba is a workhorse creator of his own goals. I have always admired his endeavour and strength. He absolutely terrified the weak Arsenal CB. With Cabaye ,
HBA, Marveax and Obertan creating Cisse will be fine . I just want adequate ST support which excludes Shola. He never has a run before being injured.
518 Novocastrian66 // Dec 30, 2012 at 4:23 PM
Ashley can’t do anything about the Ba situation. He cannot force him to sign any deal. Good look to him. He’ll be lucky to play a dozen games for Chelsea.
519 ToonDownSouth // Dec 30, 2012 at 4:24 PM
But Ba ‘deserves’ to be on a par with other strikers of his quality – think how much Torres, Rooney, Tevez are on!
No way we can match that. Plus, if we give Ba 100k a week because he’s scored a few goals, what do we do about Ben Arfa and Cisse?
I also think Ba needs to be challenging for titles – he’s good enough. And let’s face it, we’re nowhere near that.
520 Strauss // Dec 30, 2012 at 4:24 PM
BA is good, one of the top in the premier but he has baggage, knee, ego, agents, contract etc, it appears that he is disrupting the harmony; just accept that he is using the club as a stepping stone.

Up to now he has a 1 goal per 2 game ratio and unfortunately he’s either been playing alongside Ba who is often greedy and a poor strike partner or out on the right wing this season. With Papiss playing down the middle as the main striker.. another centre half, Debuchy and Cabaye and Hatem back we will be ripping it up!

Ian what worries me is the chances like the one against man city where cisse turned his man and then blazed over when it looked harder to miss the target, same with his penalty early on. I do have faith though and the chances we created in the first 16/17 games were few and far between so hopefully we could provide better service for him.
One player in plus one for every player that leaves. If we sign Debuchy I hope it means we are releasing Simpson and Debuchy isn’t the extra one player. We need a centre back and and a striker even if ba doesn’t leave.
I would love to see us sign sissokko or diame as well but can’t see it unless tiote leaves. I’m sure we are still a very attractive club for French players with the current group we have their. Diame, centre back, striker and I would kiss mike Ashleys belly button

to me ba has made us whatever transfer fee we get from him as he has payed us more than what we have payed him back just a shame as atm i would value him at a lot more than 7.5mil.
and we now need a new striker or 2 if he is gone and hope for a miracle that they can start scoring from the start as it normally takes a while for players to settle into the prem.
these new few month’s will tell if cisse is a better striker as fans have been saying when telling ba to play on the wing for reasons i still do not understand and if we do lose points through lack of goals i do hope fans who have been calling ba remember what they have said.

Looking at the upcoming fixtures of the clubs in the sh1tter then they’ve all got the top teams throughout January.
We’ve definitely got the most winnable games coming up.
BA deserves to go to a top club,he’s quality and to be honest(I’m gonna get bashed for this)we are not a top club.
We must be the best club for loyal supporters and we’ve had to put up with a lot, most players love playing here as we get behind the team and don’t expect to win the PL but eventually players want to play for honors and I don’t blame them.
RVP left a top team for a team that will compete every year.
If we were winning things r up challenging in the top 2/3 every season I don’t think we’d have a problem holding onto players even with a slightly smaller wage packet.
Lets get real,we ain’t a very decorated club.Weve won trophies a couple of generations ago,we were challenging for them in the 90′s but we’re a few players off that now.
The only problem for BA is that he could end up sittin on the bench and then you don’t feel that it’s you that’s competed for medals.
That’s the way it is for those at Manu and City so it seems if ya wanna win things then the squad has to be that good that the bench is good enough to be on any team and our bench certainly is not.
Rant over
Bye bye BA and welcome Debuchy,we hope you come to a team on the up and bring some friends from France

nick- Cisse is pure class. With him it’s more a mental than physical issue. We’re Ba to go he will be more attuned to the team. It is a service issue. Against Chelsea ( we lost 2-0) Cisse missed a couple of good chances. Strikers do but he will get you a number of unexpected goals from better service home and away. I see us winning a number of games away in the second half of the season once the defence has been restructured . On Simpson I would prefer him gone as he is poor and would merely be blocking the progression of Tavernier. Williamson is fine as cover for a handful of PL games a season.

Pardew should’ve played Marveaux from the start of the season. Gutierrez should have been dropped. Simpson and Willo should’ve also been dropped. That’s been our problem. Pardew has been unable to identify who is decent and who isn’t.
I would like to see us sack Pardew and sign a foreign manager. Their’s too many liabilities in our squad and they’re all English/Irish.

If Ba goes to Chelsea and Cisse is restored to his right position, any replacement striker for Ba has to be able to play left in a front 3 or be happy to start from the bench to challenge Cisse for 1 central striking position.
It would be a very cute deal if we could get van Arnholt back as any part of a deal for Ba.

He throws like a babee.

Re bonjour.
Was happy this morning with the Debuchy’s news.
And now, Ba…
Well, it explain a couple of things:
1. The Debuchy’s deal is announced early “by an english source near of the file”.
Someone of NUFC surely. Who said it on purpose, probably after Lambias or even Ashley told him to do so in order to reduce the impact of the Ba’s news.
2. Cissé is still in the starting eleven in a role who do not fit him cause Pard anticipated the leave of Ba, and intended to show Cissé he’s trusting him.

If we announced Remy and Debuchy and sold Ba, I would feel fairly pleased, but this isn’t good enough.
We now need a target man and a Remy type player with pace.
And no, I’m not joking. I wasn’t joking about Marveaux and Abeid either. Marveaux is a cracking talent and it was evident yesterday.
585 Marty-Toon // Dec 30, 2012 at 5:12 PM
Well of course Marveaux is better than Messi,he’s been chosen for worlds best player how many times??mmmmmmm, never
Messi has 80+ goals this season,Marveaux has 2 and if he hadn’t been injured maybe 8 at the most, very similar results.
No doubt he’s got technical ability with the brilliant pass for Ba’s goal but Messi does it every game.
We’ve got a great player on our hands along with Cabaye and Ben Arfa and at times Obertan actually shows he’s got it in him.
I think if we could get a good price for Tiote then we should sell,we were thinking he was worth 20mill last year, this year he looks like he’s worth 2million although we know he’s better as most of our players have underachieved this season.
Bigi looked great on the ball yesterday too so we’ve got someone that’s ready to step up.
We’d still need to replace him though with our thin squad
Think we could actually play Ben Arfa in the Suarez role,he’s as tricky and quick yet he’s planted out on the RW.

whilst devastated with the results of recent games…..having Cisse, Marveaux and HBA as counter attacking players all playing centrally makes me froth at the mouth…..its obvious we don’t do defense….so lets just play the way we play and not be moulded into something we are not. Besides HBA and Marv and not gr8t at tracking back. Our defensive problems have been too high a line with 3 at the back we avoid this along with a sweeper…..could even have Collo in front behind the back 3…..what ya reckon bout’ that eh?
591 jimiley // Dec 30, 2012 at 5:19 PM
Debuchy and a top centre half should have been bought in the summer to build on our success. That is what successful teams do. The purchase of Debuchy now proves that Ashley has no ambitions for this club. His ambition is not to get relegated. Anything beyond that is a bonus. He will buy this January (he quibbled over a few hundred grand in the summer!!!) so that we stay in the league. When we have a stable mid table team, we will be buying youngsters again.
592 tomellifred360 // Dec 30, 2012 at 5:19 PM

Ba s definitely out the door asap. previous quote from an insider at SJP suggested the dressing room were not happy that Ba had not supported Ashley etc:-
Full quote:-
” “There are people in the dressing room who believe Demba Ba has let Mike Ashley and Newcastle down after the way they helped resurrect his career. They’ve been kicked in the teeth.”
The quote is obviously (contents wise) an utter load of complete bollocks invented by an unscrupulous person at SJP to soften up the Geordie public to the possibility that Ba was leaving at it was his fault Reality was that we all new of the potential that Ba would be away. There was no need for this Machiavellian type amateur plot designed to discredit Ba. I wonder who was behind it – I know damn well who was behind it.
Apart from that – early purchase of Debuchy -10 out of 10.
Effect will be positive so as not to put off others who may be coming to SJP – if the French right back is going must be ok. Excellent.
Frightening downside strike pair of Shola and Cisse –must be the reason why they do not want Shola to go to ACON. Hopefully they will re-think this one.

If Ba does go then do we really expect Pards promise of one out / two in to be honoured ?
Ba is a very very good goalscorer (but he is not the Messiah Kets – your judgement is always wonky).
Chelski might be a bad move for him though in how they set out their side.
He does unbalance our attack despite his goal record. We want all our forwards to be a constant threat and have a better scoring total than we currently have.
Why do I get the uncomfortable feeling we’d have more goals if only he and Cisse had played off each other more?
With a winger/striker like Remy we’d get the balance back once Benny is fit again (though we do have cover here) If Remy goes to Gooners or Milan then we need another guy playing his style.
I bet we only get one forward in if Ba does go mind.
What’s all this Streete shouldn’t be anywhere near the bench quote ? What’s the background for that.
I thought he was injured anyway

Davy one signing doesn’t change 5h1t. Not when one of our best performers is more than likely to leave in the next few days. Where is Ed’s thread on the Debuchy story? Normally as soon as any name is linked he is there posting the news for comment.
As for the SSN sources we had apparently agreed a fee with Lille in the summer only for nothing to happen so I will wait until the formal press conference confirming the move.
As for Ba, nothing NUFC can do due to the clause so take the 5million. I would also sell Tiote to fund moves for Douglas, Pieters and Sissoko. All 3 are out of contract in the summer so fees would/should be low. As for a show of real intent and ambition by the owner then securing Sakho and Remy ( which would cost probably 10million each) in this window would be superb and give us real depth. I see alot are naming their starting 11 on here but also saying get rid of Willo and Simpson in this window. My concern with that view is when injury and suspensions kick in we are short on cover.
Here’s hoping our targets are coming and those I have named are on the list as then we would have a strong 11 and squad.
620 JackButler // Dec 30, 2012 at 5:39 PM
If Ba leave I wont be happy but I’ll wish him well as its simply a part of football, but if he does leave and we dont replace him it’ll be yet another nail in the coffin, we simply can’t do what we did when Carroll left and leave it till the summer as in the position we are currently in it could be fatal
621 Robby Bobson // Dec 30, 2012 at 5:40 PM
Debuchy may not be the best defender around but his shear threat going forward will push other teams wingers and full backs back….and we dont have to watch simpsons pathetic attempts of attacking.
Remy replacing ba would be decent as we can have a front three of class players all in their favourite position.
A centre back with presence, a guy who dominates the space around him with shear athelticism is requiredand has been for the past 3 years.

I dont think the striker situation is of any concern really. We seem to have a surplus of really good AM options which suit Cisse’s style (incisive passes, spotting his runs into space, feeding the ball into his run before going offside all that stuff) and allow for any one of them at any time to slot behind him as a secondary striker. Get that defence sorted! If Debs is here that ia a great start I tell you.

Oi Belfast while you are on – I dont mind you calling me Skunki etc (oh ha ha) but just fyi if you do I only get comments directed to me by accident, a page search doesnt work.
Which brings me to the question about how I am supposed to have used my apparent OV powers to taint the nufcfans twitter thingy thang. I dont get it? Am I a pro-pardew happy clapper then?

@SpreadtheToon – This has been slightly annoying me for a while now, when you write “gr8t” why do you put in the ‘t’??
8 already has the ‘t’!!

U know im right tho lol. Ba defo not going to Chelsea. somewhere else possible but not chelsea
662 Cool Hand Luke // Dec 30, 2012 at 6:10 PM
Why is everyone on Colo’s back? Yes there have been a few shambolic displays but the same was true of last year when our first choice back four was broken up due to injury. Its noones fault in particular, we just need a few defenders in thats all.
663 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 30, 2012 at 6:10 PM
Lets hope so fella. Ideally I’d like to see us keep Ba and sign Remy, Debuchy, Toby A and Sissoko. If we lose Ba in the summer, we should go for Benteke because Villa are going down.
Villa, Reading and Soton will drop down. I’d also go in for Gaston Ramirez if Soton drop. QPR will start winning soon.
Also, I always said that Emerson Boyce was a decent player (much better than Simpson) and it showed last night on match of the day. Great player.
664 nick_9 // Dec 30, 2012 at 6:11 PM
A whopping 85,000 Ba wants, ridiculous money but by no means whopping in premier league standards. We paid Owen more and look what he did, Ba is proven so a bigger club should have no problem meeting 85k a week. I agree we need to be careful with pay rises. Last thing we need is other players demanding more, I do think we need financial incentives though for our good performers
665 davis_toons // Dec 30, 2012 at 6:11 PM
Cant believe we doesnt attack QPR like against MAN UTD & ASNAL
They are poor performing even thou they have some ok.. midfielder.

Yes he has said he prefers that role too as an inside forward CAM. He’d be fine for an occasional runout as a left winger mind – though dunno is he or Benny is bestest at tracking back
.
I hope we sign Remy or equivalent style player regardless of Ba going. His advisers are real shit-stirrers and greedy with it. Could easily foul up any deal.
668 Cool Hand Luke // Dec 30, 2012 at 6:13 PM
Once we get a few good defenders we can build patiently from the back. Instead of teams knowing that they can pressurize some of our defenders into giving the ball away it will be a case of pass it abouth the back four/ midefield till the opposition get tired of chasing the ball and gaps appear.
That passage of play just before Tiotes shot yesterday is how I envision the team playing once the team is complete, its still a work in progress.
669 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 30, 2012 at 6:14 PM
Second best. I rate Falcao as the best at the moment.

We need Andy Townsend as a club adviser…

672 Williamson is Bramble in disguise // Dec 30, 2012 at 6:17 PM
Cool hand luke – because everyone thinks that the sun shines out of his backside and he coudlnt do anything wrong, but fact is, hes been possibly our worst defender this season, been responsible for about half the goals weve conceded, looked old and slow having been given the run around by suarez, long, etc. He is supposed to be our captain, and ive seen nothing of him being a leader, infact quite the opposite, hes dissapeared when he should be out there organising the back four and driving the team on, on the downhiull slope, get rid in the summer. Need Taylor back desperately.

What did I actually say Skunki ? One to many beers yesterday, so it’s all a bit cloudy.
If it was something bad, Catchy made me do it.
676 Super Magpie // Dec 30, 2012 at 6:23 PM
If Ba does leave I wish him the best and thank for him for what he’s done here. He has an excellent goal to game ratio and we should never have put the clause in his contract. But, if he feels the need to move on then there isn’t much we can do to stop him ( or his agents).
On Debuchy, I won’t believe any of the news surrounding him until I see him standing at St James Park holding an NUFC shirt. It seems like we’re going in the right direction though.
677 Spreadthetoon // Dec 30, 2012 at 6:24 PM
Ba Humbug
I think agents overall add little value to clubs or players alike in general…..they are the vultures of football….and then when a player has more than one agent which IMO should not be allowed then you end up in a real mess. I do not think Remy will go to Chelsea…..possibly Arsenal but I do not see that they have a need. If Debuchy signs then things are not that bad on Tyneside and I think other quality french league players will come. As for Ba he has mentioned the Gunners and PSG…..Wenger said no…probably cos’ he got depth there…possibly in the summer but not now….again cannot see PSG coming in for him now…..especially when they know he is available in the summer. Think BA will see the season out with us….but I still want Remy to come to add competition which the Ameobi’s sadly do not offer on a weekly basis. If I was greedy I would say 2 strikers as we sold Best and released Lovenkrands but I think will have to wait till summer!
