Newcastle Agree Fee With Lille For Mathieu Debuchy

Good news today being reported by Sky Sports News, that Lille and Newcastle have finally agreed a fee in the region of £5M for Mathieu Debuchy, and that’s around £1.5M less than Lille were demanding in the summer.

Mathieu Debuchy – on his way to Newcastle

And it looks like the deal can be done early this coming week, so we are expecting Mathieu Debuchy to come through the door maybe even on New Years Day, and he will be the first signing by Newcastle in the January transfer window, and he’ll be a welcome defensive reinforcement for the side.

Of course the 27 year-old has been a target of Newcastle’s all this year, and the club came very close to signing him in the summer, and in retrospect it would have been better to have signed him in August – but hey – better late than never.

And Yohan Cabaye, who Alan Pardew said will be able to return from his groin injury in mid January, will be pleased that his best pal is joining the club – and of course Mathieu is a good player and an excellent professional, and hopefully will help to strengthen a defense that has been the Achilles heel of the club too many times this season.

And that would seemingly leave the door open for Newcastle to sell Danny Simpson in January, if they can get a buyer willing to pay around £2M for the former Manchester United defender.

This is good news, but we also need a center-back to arrive in January, and we can go about making our defense much more resilient than it’s been of late, and of course Steven taylor is alos due back form his hamstring injury in a couple of weeks time.

Mathieu has played for Lille since 2004 and he’s played over 300 times for the French club with 17 goals.

This is good news.

We need a CB and ideally a backup CB/FB.
One at least to be nippy enough for us to play a high line without having to brick it on counter attacks

I for one hoping Ba goes …….
fed up of the circus around him and i feel the team will be better all round without him.

Great striker but greedy and selfish – his fee can allow us to purchase a striker/winger that fits better into our system or a better partner for Cisse

Watch Cisse bang the goals in now

Debuchy will be a great signing for us! Simpson is lacking the quality defensively and offensively. Regarding Demba Ba… IF he goes, Cisse will be moved into the middle where he was last season and we should have Cabaye, Hatem and now Sylvain to feed him with their creativity. Cisse hasnt been scoring because A. he’s been playing on the right wing and B. he’s had Demba Ba as a strike partner, lets face it he can be selfish and isnt a great link up player. Cisse will flourish on his own down the middle. If we bring in Debuchy, a centre half and have our flair players back we will be just fine!

If Ba does leave I wish him the best and thank for him for what he’s done here. He has an excellent goal to game ratio and we should never have put the clause in his contract. But, if he feels the need to move on then there isn’t much we can do to stop him ( or his agents).

On Debuchy, I won’t believe any of the news surrounding him until I see him standing at St James Park holding an NUFC shirt. It seems like we’re going in the right direction though.

I’d be surprised if anyone made a bid to sign Simpson. He’ll struggle to find a new club in the summer. No matter who signs Simpson it will negatively affect their league position.

Ba is being flogged around europe on his say so. I hope he goes sooner rather than later and even fo the minimum asking price. we have had our moneys worth but now the time is pon us to get the team into a unified working shape and for me, although his strike rate makes this statement seem untenable, Ba is an obstacle not just to cisse but to team morale in general. Journeymen always cause unrest because they have no desire for a cause, or necessarily to be a part of winning things other than to increase their personal stock.

He’s been good, but we will live well without him.

Ed must have read my post and quickly put up his Debuchy thread.
If we sell Simpson and say Debuchy gets injured who comes in at RB. Much rather Simpson stays and sees his contract out.
This window, if news true, the board are quick out of the starting blocks for recruitment.
    My wish list is:-
    Debuchy
    Douglas
    Pieters
    Sissoko
    Remy
Sell Tiote for 10-12million and if Ba’s agents get their deal then if AP had an alleged 15millon budget before sales, offloading both Ba and Tiote would give him 25-27million.
5 million on Debuchy, 9 million for Douglas, Pieters and Sissoko who will all be free at end of season so could be secured on low fees will see the club a maximum of 11million to land Remy.
In the summer release Simpson, sell Willo, see the return of Raylor, Gosling and Vuckic plus work hard to secure Sakho or Alderwield and a attacking midfielder plus striker and hope to keep everyone else currently employed should see NUFC have a much better year next season.

If Willo and Simmo weren’t playing in either of the last 2 games, we would’ve had 6 points more and that’s where the main problem is. The midfield are strike-force just needs tweaking

All those saying a premature goodbye to Simmo be careful what you wish for,we going to hope that Debuchy plays in every EL.FAC and and league game, what happens if he gets a knock or worse still takes time to settle are we going to expect Tav to step up which so far Pards hasn’t seen him as being better than Simmo .

Jail, we dont know that we have ‘saved’ £1.5M on Debuchy – how do we know Lille only wanted £6.5M in the summer? He had a good Euro and other clubs were supposedly interested so Lille could have asked £10M for all we know.

Ashley should have got another two players in the summer granted but slamming him for waiting six months to save £1.5M is the equivalent of the paper talk neither of us pays much attention to.

Would rather see Aldereweirld or Sakho signed than Douglas. Mbiwa can come in for Coloccini in the summer. I would take Dougals on a free in the summer though as a back-up option.

    Repost from previous thread

    Ba Humbug
I think agents overall add little value to clubs or players alike in general…..they are the vultures of football….and then when a player has more than one agent which IMO should not be allowed then you end up in a real mess. I do not think Remy will go to Chelsea…..possibly Arsenal but I do not see that they have a need. If Debuchy signs then things are not that bad on Tyneside and I think other quality french league players will come. As for Ba he has mentioned the Gunners and PSG…..Wenger said no…probably cos’ he got depth there…possibly in the summer but not now….again cannot see PSG coming in for him now…..especially when they know he is available in the summer. Think BA will see the season out with us….but I still want Remy to come to add competition which the Ameobi’s sadly do not offer on a weekly basis. If I was greedy I would say 2 strikers as we sold Best and released Lovenkrands but I think will have to wait till summer!

If we get Debuchy i would try and swap Simpson with a championship player or sell him and buy a youngster like bigi, we won’t get mega bucks for him with 6 months left. It would be just our luck of Debuchy got injured though.

Big question for you all, would Debuchy and santon leave us too open at the back?

Centre back please next mr Ashley,
    Striker if Ba leaves
Sissoko or Diame if tiote leaves.

Simpson and Williamson out, possibly ba if he wants out and a replacement is certain.

This team would be incredible! I feel we need someone like Remy as otherwise there would be alot of pressure on Cisse to score lots of goals. But once Ba has gone, every fantasy football manager should be putting Cisse in their team, he is gonna be a goal machine. Feeling really optimistic after seeing us do this Debuchy deal already!

Totally agree with post 34. We need to add competition to our strikeforce. If Ba or Cisse are playing poor, Remy needs to come on. Ameobi isn’t good enough. Ba and Cisse will up their game if Remy arrives. It’s only good for the team.

GeordieToon89 – I’d disagree with that line up! Cabaye doesnt have the freedom in that position to push up and create chances for the front man. AND Anita will soon enough be undroppable as his technique is superb and he has been our best player in recent performances. Remy should not be stuck on the wing if he was to come, then we would have the same problem we have had all season… Another striker wasted and not enough chances created from that flank position. The team needs WINGERS on the WING. I.E Obertan, Marveaux, Hatem Ben Arfa
