Newcastle To Pay Demba Ba £2M Loyalty Bonus?

3:32 am, Monday, December 31st, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 96 Comments

There are some reports coming through from Caughtoffside, that Newcastle will be paying Demba Ba a loyalty bonus of £2M – if and when his transfer to Chelsea is completed.

demba ba a wave

Demba Ba – bye guys – I’m off

It seemed that things moved quickly last night when representatives met with Chelsea officials, , and the news is that Chelsea are willing to double Demba Ba’s wages he is getting at Newcastle, which are thought to be around £40K/week, and of course Ba is now keen to sign for the London club.

The news is that Newcastle have accepted Ba’s departure, but of course there is nothing we can do about it in any case – and it was always possible that some big club would come in for him next month – and it seems there are only two things that could stop the move now.

One is that Ba could fail his medical, and the second is that the insurance costs on Ba’s knee could prove prohibitive for Chelsea – but it’s looking like the move will happen and happen soon too.

Ba has 13 goals this season and scored 16 goals last season so in a total of 58 appearances for Newcastle he scored 29 goals – and that’s exactly one goal in every two appearances for the Magpies.

We hate to bring this up, but where’s the loyalty in Demba Ba deserting Newcastle half way through the season, and when we are also in a bit of trouble?

Maybe they’ve changed the definition of loyalty – or maybe we are just old fashioned – that’s always possible.

What do you think about this?

    Life move on!

    Ba Out

Remy In ! (or whoever else)

  • 2 t00ntime // Dec 31, 2012 at 3:41 AM

ba has no connection to newcastle. He is getting a chance to play for a world class team that competes for trophies every year, not to mention CL football. Just becuase chelsea spend alot of money doesnt mean every player that goes there is a money grabber. I was reading skysports earlier, every comment was about how he is moneygrabber. I hate it when people say that when its not true. If he was going to QPR then yes he is going for money. But lets be honest we are nowhere near as good as chelsea, trophy wise, history wise, and playing wise. If ba goes to chelsea its for trophies and CL football, money is a nice bonus imo.

Lets not become arsenal fans and blame every departure on money. (nasri left for trophies, won the league. cesc left for trophies won 4? already, clichy the same, Ashley cole same etc. Yet ask any gooner, they are all money grabbers)

  • 3 t00ntime // Dec 31, 2012 at 3:43 AM

@brutooon i think atm it all depends on cisse weather we move on or not. If he still cant score, we are screwed cause remy will make more chances but not score like ba (and cisse last season). If cisse starts scoring, we bring in Remy, attack is sorted.

  • 4 Brutooon // Dec 31, 2012 at 3:47 AM

t00ntime : i do agreed with you. for me we need TWO new Strikers – one as a replacement for Ba and one just to gave that extra competition to the strikers.

  • 5 nick_9 // Dec 31, 2012 at 3:58 AM

Toontime agreed. I would feel worse if he left for qpr but cannot argue with Chelsea. Hope they don’t ruin him though otherwise us and him will regret he left.

Brutoon two strikers would be nice but I can’t see it. We need a central defender asap and then replacements for whoever leaves. Be nice to sign a quality winger as well

  • 6 tweaked // Dec 31, 2012 at 4:16 AM

Everyone is jumping to conclusions, till I see this confirmed I won’t believe it, I think he wll stay loyal to the toon, if he goes o Chelsea his. Gonna gt lonely been the only Frenchman

  • 7 YankToonFan // Dec 31, 2012 at 4:18 AM

Fine with letting Ba go but the £2 million smells a bit.

Now Cisse can get back to being our No. 9 and we can put another needed midfielder on the pitch.

If we can bring in a talented CB and a winter/striker type, I am happy.

  • 8 YankToonFan // Dec 31, 2012 at 4:19 AM

    “Winger”, not “winter.”

  • 9 Indian Magpie // Dec 31, 2012 at 4:22 AM

I think it could be the 2.5 million that we must give to him i.e. w get 5 million and 2.5 million goes to BA

  • 10 Dannyo // Dec 31, 2012 at 5:40 AM

There are rumours Ba is having a scan today or tomorrow.
Don’t know what it means, if this is some sort of a medical or scan on his knee before negotiating a deal further or if he has an injury.
Comes out of one of the sky reporters on twitter.

  • 11 davybtoon // Dec 31, 2012 at 6:11 AM

Ba was always leaving just glad it’s happening straight away so we can get a replacement in debuchy a cb n a wide forward will b great reckon we will sign 5 players bcoz I can see Simpson ba leaving n sammi abeid goin out on loan

  • 12 davybtoon // Dec 31, 2012 at 6:13 AM

Daily mail reporting debuchy and ba replacement will b in the stands for Everton game

  • 13 Dannyo // Dec 31, 2012 at 6:19 AM

I’ll belive that when i see it, lol. Debuchy perhaps. but replacement for Ba?
No bid has been recieved yet currently.

  • 14 davybtoon // Dec 31, 2012 at 6:26 AM

Dannyo – I believe it, u think we’ve been working towards the thinking ba would stay of course not, like the debuchy deal I think we will try to do most of our business b4 reading at home on jan 15th I think we the need players now to get out this mess that the board have put us in

  • 15 Dannyo // Dec 31, 2012 at 6:31 AM

Ye, well, if we’re shifting players this early, then i expect us to get players in early aswell.
I’m not saying its impossible like, i just see it as doubtful.
If the replacement for Ba will be here, is it Remy or someone else?
I dunno, i think Remy will be too expensive.

  • 16 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 31, 2012 at 6:39 AM

Give it a rest with the loyalty stuff eh!
He’s going to chelsea, champions league winners and constant league contenders not fcuking QPR!!
Also if you found the loyalty bonus story then you would of also found the story that his contract was only 20k a week with performance bonuses which probably explains why the lad was so fcuked off playing on the wing! It also says we had his contract stuffed with our clauses to protect us from his “timebomb knee” which we wouldnt remove
So we signed him on free, paid him peanuts inserted all sorts of loop holes and get out clauses played him out of position possibly affecting the terms of his wage bonus structure and this makes him the disloyal one?
Im sorry Ed but you seem to be jumping on the media bandwagon that this is all ba’s fault when i’d bet it’s mostly down to our board just ask nolan barton and hoots

  • 17 Indian Magpie // Dec 31, 2012 at 7:07 AM

Can u give the link? please

  • 19 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Dec 31, 2012 at 7:09 AM

Is it rellay surprising that he,s going !

After months of turmoil and reports about release clauses etc, etc, etc, etc,

We got him on a free and paid him peanuts, and till Cisse came to us last year he could,nt stop scoring !

Don,t come on here talking about Loyalty when we,v been basically screwing this player with low wages and playing him out of position since Cisse came!

Chelsea will double his wages, and i am betting that there will be no pithing around with relase clauses or any other sort of crap like that with his contract !

I can,t say i blame him for going, and i wish him all the best, he will probably return next season and bang three in against us!
Thanks for the memories Demba !

  • 22 Indian Magpie // Dec 31, 2012 at 7:15 AM

Why do chelsea have to bid. once all is done they just have to meet the release clause.

  • 23 Toon-Prodigy // Dec 31, 2012 at 7:16 AM

Alreet lads, first time poster, very long time lurker!

Well chuffed Ba is away. Thinking he has been causing disharmony in the dressing room for a long time. No doubt in my mind he is a journey man, he has been very very coy since he came here. Every transfer window. The fact he is jumping ship with the problems we have right now leave no doubt in my mind. Chelsea or QPR, It dosn’t matter to me. His attitude and sheer determination to put himself in the shop window as a main striker, instead of taking one for the team is another example of his selfishness. And i’ll bet this is why there is unsavoury discussions in the dressing room with this rumour that has came about this past couple of days. Although pure speculation of course. But If I was in that dressing room I wouldn’t be best pleased with him either.

I thank him for his performances on the pitch for our club. But this is all. His coyness might of fooled alot of people, but not me like. I’v had my suspicions for a very long time about this lad. Nice stepping stone NUFC has been for him. I won’t take away though, he did do well. Journey man all the same. Best of luck Demba.

  • 24 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Dec 31, 2012 at 7:25 AM

If Ba is going to Chelsea I would make Lukaka on loan at West Brom part of the deal (if he would come here) scared the sh*t out of defence.

  • 25 sevenho // Dec 31, 2012 at 7:26 AM

get debuchy, remy and 1 accomplished center back, and loan carrol back. we will have a very strong squad if we manage to do so

  • 26 89Norcal // Dec 31, 2012 at 7:51 AM

I’m not concerned with loyalty like most of you are. Mostly because we all know the issue with Cisse’s form is Ba, and also because this has been clearly hinted at for a while – and Ba hasn’t necessarily conducted himself poorly.

    IMO it’s a win-win for both parties.

  • 27 WWYCD // Dec 31, 2012 at 7:56 AM

Think this is one of the worst threads I’ve read on this site tbh. The loyalty argument holds no water what so ever and a loyalty bonus means he hasent asked for a tranfer we have sold him to my understanding and its quite a common clause in contracts

He is entitled to the money. I am tired of read that everything in Ba’s contract is his fault NUFC gave him the contract he agreed to it

  • 28 WWYCD // Dec 31, 2012 at 8:00 AM

Also loyalty goes both ways does it not? When has Ashleys NUFC shown loyalty to any of our players as soon as anything happens they aren’t happy with their media machine starts up and when the player involves dares to comment otherwise he is fined

  • 29 TorqToon // Dec 31, 2012 at 8:15 AM

    Morning gents.

Whilst it hurts having to pay such a huge sum of money on a ridiculous loyalty bonus – I canny blame Demba for going to chelsea. More money and the chance of trophies. I won’t bitch and moan about the lad, whilst with us he did a job and did it brilliantly. Whilst we are in a transitional we will always be susceptible to losing players. Debuchy is nearly done – which means Cabaye will stay put and improve, then we have January to sign a replacement for Ba. Don’t need 2 CF’s as I believe we need to blood Campbell into the first team.

  • 30 davis_toons // Dec 31, 2012 at 8:21 AM

    rob says December 30, 2012 9:09pm

QPR just show that it’s not about buying players which brings you success, as Liverpool also prove. It’s about good management to produce a team. Redknapp is a great people manager, but he lacks football technical knowledge, any Spurs and hammers fan can testifiy to that. I’m sure Redknapp can make the team be at harmony, but after 1-2 seasons of bringing the minds together, his lack of technical knowledge will show.

  • 31 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 31, 2012 at 8:23 AM

I cannot help wonder, if it was so evident that Ba would be leaving why did Pardew keep insisting on playing both Ba and Cisse side by side?

…why not plan ahead! Maybe it is just me, but even in the last two games where we had played 4-3-3 Pardew kept using Ba upfront and played Cisse wide.

I’ll wait and see if this transfer pans out (cannot believe Pardew is that naive)

  • 32 Slank // Dec 31, 2012 at 8:25 AM

Chelsea are getting Ba under almost the same conditions that we got him from West Ham.

If we really wanted Ba we would have removed his get out clause from his contract but because there was always the risk that his knee might go at anytime the club probably thought (like Stoke) that it wasn’t worth the risk to tying him down to a lengthy and expensive contract.

In retrospect, we have done really well out of Ba. The club took a risk and it paid off in goals. I bet Stoke and West Ham now wish that they had taken that risk.

There is no shame in wanting to play for a top European club like Chelsea. Good luck to Ba.

It is arguable that it is better to have someone for a short time who scores regularly like Ba than someone who has been at the club for years and scores occasionally like Shola.

  • 33 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 31, 2012 at 8:29 AM

…I guess it all depends on the reason for it! (and for how many games will you live the dream – we all know the money is good)

  • 34 spitfire_ // Dec 31, 2012 at 8:31 AM

A loyalty bonus? He want to get away putting this clause in his contract… what loyalty? I hope his knee explode in the second when he sign for Chelsea. No hard feelings by the way. Just hate the greed.

  • 35 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 31, 2012 at 8:43 AM

Exactly lads loyalty is a 2 way street the difference is the club some to be leaking all sorts of details regarding his clause fir months but have been very cautious about publicing stuff like his wages, i remember reading from a player there mot even allowed to tell the other players what there on!

Not really just find articles like this see all the sad idiots crawl out with pathetic statements like they hope his knee explodes just because we wouldn’t offer a better contract!
Also this loyalty bonus, isnt that the 2 million we’ve know he’d get from day one when his clause was leaked?

  • 36 jimmysmith // Dec 31, 2012 at 8:46 AM

Think it’s pretty sad that people are praying for Ba’s knee to give in and set him out for a long time ! More to life and more to football than 1 single player ! Some people need to grow up.

Hope we get rid of Ba it unsettles the whole club all this nonsense,

I have a bad feeling this is going to go on all through January, then he will move last day with no replacement through the door, will be just typical, if the lad is trying to move away from the club, he should be removed from the first team squad, same goes for Simpson.

Simpson will unfortunately be here until the summer as clearly nobody rates him barring the rose tinted glasses brigade on here.

Hope Ba goes and i hope he goes quickly.

Nothing worse in the workplace than bad morale and uncertainty on how the place is being ran, the Ba situation for sure will be having an impact on the team.

Clearly Ba is playing for himself, everybody knows it, he is lucky to get 3 people celebrating reluctantly with him when he scores, he’s the greedy kid at school who wont pass the ball, nobody likes that kid.

  • 52 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:02 AM

Does anyone know if this clause of Bas is active throughout the whole window? Wasn’t it only valid for a certain amount of time in the summer to allow for a replacement or some such thing? I know I know, it sounds made up, why would someone allow time for a replacement? ;)

    Check….Yeah, I remember “that kid”. Little b*st*rd.

All you can hope for in a situation like this is that the manager and players and communicating well and not allowing resentment to take over the squad. If it is, then no matter how many goals he’s getting, a lot of you are right and he shouldn’t be allowed near the first team. That was “if it is”.

Saying that, I don’t hold any grudges, we took a gamble (sort of) on a free player who had a good half season in the PL, it was a win win. Shame he doesn’t want to stay and build, but life will go on. We will need a replacement though, we need another option between Cisse and Shola.

It has never been in Ba’s mind to stay here long term. The people who are mentioning about how newcastle signed him to a contract and how it wasn’t his fault it was the clubs. He signed a contract aswell and shudnt of been needing to cry about being on the wing. He wanted to score for the Toon but not for the progress of the club but to keep his market value up. If he was any kind of decent bloke he wouldnt of did this. Very selfish individual and put himself before the club thats been paying him 40,000 a wk. he always knew he was off this january. Morning Ibiza – This transfer window is soul destroying, dont believe anything until the players on official website.

We must get rid of Ba during tis window, dont even care if we get a replacement, the continued use of Cisse wide right is torturing me,

Please start playing Cisse through the middle Parsnip you are destroying the lad, that 4th goal on Saturday was all Pardew’s fault, dickhead thinks he is doing well converting a lethal finisher into a defensive right sided midfielder, he needs to sort himself out. Selling Ba will give him good reason to do it.

Drop Ba from the 1st team squad and force his ‘representatives’ to accept something from another club for me.

  • 64 davis_toons // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:12 AM

I have some faith in the Debuchy deal tbh, but I have felt that would happen at some point anyway.

On Ba, not going to allow it to do my head in tbh. Don’t know all of the politics behind the scenes and I’m guessing there is a fair amount of it going on.

It is seeming in the best interest of the club for him to go now. Too much uncertainty, these long distance shots instead of the simple pass (who does he think he is? Tiote?). Not saying he isn’t a good player as he is and he will likely be missed. But team always comes first.

To me Simpson have got good learning abilities an he shld stay and learn more from a player like Debuchy.

He is young and can improve a little further if he is willing to.

Of late we have seem Simpson joining the attack, take on players which he does not do during Coke leg days with us he have improve at his own pace.

Next will be to shoot and head. Thats Modern days defenders, Simmo.

But if he wants Cash more then performance than be it. Just like Danny Guthrie, be ready to ship out.

Looks like remy is off to QPR so we won’t be getting a striker that seems to be why shola is so important all of a sudden .no doubt the plan will be to take remy in the summer once array takes the hoops down.
Still maybe best to concentrate on a centre half and a link midfielder
If we can keep benny and marveux fit don’t need to worry about a wide man ,now Ba has gone at least turnip head will find it easier to select a 433 or 451 however you look at it .
    Quite exciting really!!!!

Probably won’t pass the medical, which you’d imagine with 80 00 quid a week on the line will be quite stringent.

    What a f@cken melodrama!

  • 76 foggonridiculous // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:23 AM

Personally I don’t like to see comments like “I hope his knee explodes” I’d like to think we are bigger than that.

From what I recall his agents/representatives put us through hoops before we signed Ba …and IF his knee is as bad as we keep hearing then I can see that the temptation of one last big money move being strong. Chelsea..who’s money and attitude to refs pretty much encapsulate a lot of what is wrong in football can afford to take a punt on his knee holding up. I’d also imagine the chance of working with England’s best known non-racist John Terry will greatly appeal…. :-)

For me it proves it was right NOT to give him the hallowed number 9 shirt.

No player is bigger than the club.

    Howay the lads….

  • 77 TorqToon // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:24 AM

York – Remy won’t go QPR mate. Trust me on that.

  • 78 Toon-Prodigy // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:24 AM

    Hello WWYCD

I was just a little irked by all these well wishes for Demba. With not a lot mentioned for the way he has played the club for a mug along the way. He has been very coy every transfer window having his agents on every continent. While tweeting his patter at the same time hinting how loyal he is to NUFC. While i have respect for the job he has done he has been very selfish aswell in retrospect. I dont think that should go unspoken. Not to mention the situation where in and timing. He was always going, he knew this from the start imo. Cheers mate

  • 79 sirtoongospel // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:27 AM

Torq, yeah a few haven’t exactly held back. But to be fair, all the players get grief of some sort. Ba is looking to leave, we have all known it for ages so why kick off now?

I still hope we replace him with a fast and tricky forward as it is what we are missing.

Debuchy and a cracking CB and we will all forget about Demba. There are better players left us in the past lets be honest. He has done well, but we move on.

  • 80 yorkymag // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:28 AM

We have a fast tricky forward in young Campbell ,give the lad a chance ,sterling
    I rest my case

  • 81 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:29 AM

Yo…..Swine you say. Are you Belfast in disguise? I found a turkey leg if you’re interested? Or on the swine line of thinking, some pork stuffing?

  • 82 Graeme // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:32 AM

Well, after 24 hours of mayhem, looks like situation normal.

Ba has made no claims he wants to leave, but his parasites, ooops, sorry, agents, have been having a field day!! He is still a Newcastle player and leading goal scorer. He is still being paid a fraction of what he is worth as a leading Premier League goal scorer.

NUFC profess to want to remove his release clause, BUT NUFC do not want to pay him for the privilege of doing so. This stinks of double standards and has Mashley / lamearse ineptitude stamped all over it.

I believe Ba deserves a lot of sympathy over his current predicament – even his employer wont be fair with him!!

  • 83 WWYCD // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:33 AM

    Morning Toon-Prodigy mate
I don’t disagree Ba wants what’s best for him and he wanted to play central (but if his contract is heavily based on what he scores he’s well within his rights to want that considering his basic wage will be poor in comparison to others in the league imo)

I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes in relation to Ba/transfers etc but he has always seemed a humble down to earth guy and he is merely doing what is best for him. I do however take issue with people wishing ill on him from their high horse (not saying u are btw)

I want him to stay but I will understand if he moves on and I can’t wish him anything but well in his future, though admittedly if he plays us I want him to have a bad day

  • 84 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:35 AM

Torq…If Ba stays then Pardew is going is going to need to sort them out. Probably means rotating them. If Cisse keeps getting pushed out on the right fans will continue to be wound up and I would imagine so would Cisse. Does still seem odd though that we’re all okay with Ba playing out wide, but not Cisse.

  • 85 WWYCD // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:35 AM

Haha we are of one mind myself and Belfast haha
Pork stuffing wouldn’t go amiss but bit early we will call it a wash…this time

  • 86 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:36 AM

Also doubt he’ll be the last of the players we here about getting fed up with poor contract negotiations fully expect benny cabs santon cisse marv all looking for new ones nxt season/end of this and fully exoect us to offer half what they should be getting like!

  • 87 yorkymag // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:38 AM

    Ba thanks for the goals
I hope he gets what he wants – not sure however how happy he will be at Chelsea as third of fourth choice

  • 88 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:39 AM

Yo…..You share a mind with Belfast? He clearly got the smaller part, explains so much. :)

  • 89 bills-son // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:42 AM

Proudtobeageordie did say yesterday that Ba wouldn’t be going to Chelsea….

My attitude is to ignore everything I read in the press because 99% of it is garbage reporting. I find it ridiculous that management and players get hammered by fans on the basis of garbage reports about who is or isnt being signed or where a player is supposed to be going. I remember Pards being hammered when the press suggested he was interested in Carlton Cole. We signed Demba Ba.

I’ll reserve my comments on the success or otherwise of this window until Feb 1st.

  • 90 WWYCD // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:42 AM

    Haha poor lad

  • 91 Scotty // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:44 AM

Well folks this Ba problem with “will he”, “won’t he” go is never going to stop, until he signs a new improved contract – Which is looking very, very unlikely.

He is an excellent goal scorer but the rest of the package is poor- attitude, greedy agents, degenerative knee problem…… The list goes on.

I am very grateful to Ba for his services but I think it’s time we moved on and sold him – if only for the good of our sanity and positivity of the club.

In a nutshell, there are many areas for blame – the lack of summer signings and squad strengthening being the biggest….. That’s my opinion of course…

  • 92 davis_toons // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:44 AM
The WOW Factor….This is the Kind of WOW Factor that we wanted.

  • 93 Toon-Prodigy // Dec 31, 2012 at 9:48 AM

Well personally, im glad he is now out of the set up at NUFC. (So long as everything goes ok) I think he has been a problem for a long time. I hope the team now flourish, and we now get the players in we need. I’v got confidence in Cisse going from what i seen last season. No doubt this lad is a player. Just out of form and out of position

  • 94 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Dec 31, 2012 at 10:15 AM

Fasten your seat-belts and wait to see what happens !

Debuchy is already coming, and barring a last minute cock-up by Llambs-arse, will be signing after the window opens, have heard he will be in the stands tomorrow watching the game ! Hope thay don,t play him before his playing licence is faxed?
Some people at the club are just stupid enough to do that !

I don,t believe for one minute that

  • 95 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Dec 31, 2012 at 10:17 AM

Don,t believe for on minute that Remy is going to QPR!

  • 96 JP...from The Rock // Dec 31, 2012 at 4:07 PM

Probably it’s just the same bonus we’re going to give the agents and it’s spread between Ba and his Agents.

The media makes it sound worse than it is like always.
