One of things we learned during our relegation season four years ago is that once the confidence of payers goes – because of the continual poor results – it becomes very difficult to get your players playing anywhere near their best form.
Alan Pardew – must inspire the players
And it’s that confidence which can become the main issue until the team starts to string a number of wins together.
And after Newcastle were walloped in the last 20 minutes at the Emirates and conceded four goals and most of them were very sloppy – Alan Pardew has come out and said the confidence of his players has taken a hit.
We are now back in 15th place and just 3 points above 3rd bottom Southampton who drew 3-3 at Stoke City over the weekend, after being 3-1 up in the second half, and only a 90th minute equalizer from Cameron Jerome robbed them of a famous win.
And Reading picked up a good 1-0 win at home against a West Ham side who are starting to struggle, and Wigan won 3-0 at Aston Villa (the Villans have conceded 15 goals in their last 3 games and scored none), so three of the teams below us gained points on Newcastle over the weekend.
Alan talked about his players today:
“They were disappointed in the dressing room, of course.” “You don’t want a scoreline like that – confidence will be affected.” “We can’t get away from it, but there’s no point in hiding from it.” “I’ve told them to come out on Wednesday night, and be strong.”
“We will have to make sure we don’t put the ball at risk like we did at Arsenal, and make sure we win the game.” “It must be hard for Newcastle fans to look at that scoreline, but you really had to be there on the night.”
“The last 20 minutes was a team that hadn’t had a game this week, and another team that played on a sodden pitch in Manchester, and worked their hearts out.” “We have had to work really, really hard, and the scoreline doesn’t really reflect what went on.”
Newcastle will have one more day’s rest than Everton who were narrowly beaten by a resurgent Chelsea side on Sunday – so surely tiredness cannot be used as another excuse?
Our lads need to go out there on Wednesday as through their lives depended on winning the game – and deliver those 3 points.
It seems so easy doesn’t it. 😀
If we can get the win then things will look a little brighter in Newcastle’s garden on Thursday morning – that’s for sure.

Comment #44Proudtobeageordie – good work. Keep your ear to the ground and keep us informed lad! Any idea what figures are being talked about for Sakho? I know he was valued at £10mil not long ago but I imagine that’s come down significantly as he is out of favour.

Straight into the team. A proven premier league centre back.
But he’s probably on massive wages.

You seem very clued up mate. How come you are privileged to this info? I’m a cardiologist and work directly with football clubs in France, Germany and England so come across Newcastle related news quite often.

Comment #54We would only bring Lescott on loan as a short fix as long as Citeih paid most of his wages so can’t see it happening especially with us on the verge of the sakho deal

But seriously why did they not sign the players in the summer ??
I would say Ashley is shitting his pants at the thought of getting relegated & missing out on the bumper new tv deal.

Comment #75Belfast – As with everything (especially NUFC) it comes down to money. Lille were asking £7m plus in the summer and we have picked him up for (apparently) £4.9mil, Sakho was being courted at £10mil in the summer and we are looking at around half that for him now and Remy has dropped for £18mil before the euros to about £10mil now. If we had bought them all then, then yes we could be in a very different league position, but as it is we have saved around £20mil. We are struggling yes, but I believe we can still get out of this! A win against Everton and a clean sheet is just what we need right now.

Comment #76After Tiote’s performances this season no-one in their right mind would pay 20 million for him (maybe Liverpool 🙂 ) , Bigi outclassed him against Arsenal and gives the ball away less. He also retains the ball better and does not lose posession half as much

Dec 31, 2012 at 12:18 PM
Comment #79I don’t believe there to be any chance whatsoever that Remy will even consider QPR. In France their reputation is awful and seen as a terrible club with a good pay packet. Loic Remy doesn’t strike me as a greedy money maker, he loves Newcastle and even visited in the summer briefly.
As much as QPR may possibly make that bid, I wouldn’t think Remy would even consider it, even at a hefty salary.
