The Very Latest Transfer Developments At Newcastle

1:09 am, Monday, December 31st, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 81 Comments

There were moves yesterday concerning Newcastle United in the transfer market, and the good news is that Mathieu Debuchy could be announced as Newcastle’s first signing, after a fee of £5M was agreed between his club Lille and Newcastle, and wages have already been agreed with the player himself, so all is left is a medical, and Mathieu could be introduced as a Newcastle player on Tuesday – January 1st, 2013 – that’s tomorrow.

demba ba scores west brom

Demba Ba – seems ready to walk away from Newcastle

But bad news accompanied that potential signing, with Demba Ba and his representatives widely reported to be in negotiations with Chelsea, who will activate his£7M release clause in Ba’s contract, and if wages can be agreed and Demba Ba can pass a medical in London, he will leave Newcastle, and he has probably already played his last game for the club.

And with it looking almost certain that Debuchy will be arriving soon, the door is now open for Danny Simpson to leave, and at least we’ll get around £2M for him, instead of the zilch we would receive in the summer, when his contract runs out on Tyneside.

Danny has always said he wants to stay at Newcastle, but that looks like pure PR – and Newcastle will now move him out.

And it’s almost certain that Newcastle will bring in a new center-back next month to further strengthen our defense, and there are reports surfacing that Newcastle may go after long term target 24 year-old 6’4″ FC Twente center-back Douglas, whose contract ruins out in the summer, and could be brought in for around £3M in January.

And with Ba likely to move out Newcastle will need to bring in another striker, but our feeling is that it will be difficult to persuade Marseilles striker Loic Remy to join the club – but we could be wrong on that – we hope we’re wrong on that.

Quite honestly – we are still astounded that a player like Demba Ba could simply walk away from Newcastle – but that looks likely to happen now.

It will be good news when Debuchy’s signing is announced, but the team will be weakened if Demba Ba leaves the club – but hey – as we found out in the relegation season – we only want players who want to proudly wear the famous black and white stripes of Newcastle.

So if Ba wants to leave for big money elsewhere – so be it.

Debuchy has always wanted to join Newcastle United – in what he has called his dream move – so we have no doubts where his heart will be once he arrives on Tyneside – and we think he’ll get a great welcome from our fans.

But it’s up to our players and any new acquisitions we can get in during January, to fight our way clear of relegation – and we think we can do that – and although we will not qualify for European competition next season – we could come back again big time next season – because our squad should be a lot stronger.

We’re still positive on Newcastle – even though it was really bad news about Demba Ba yesterday.

We need a striker that can terrorise opponents on the wing. I hope Pardiola doesn’t get another #9.

  • 2 LewSpi v2.0 // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:18 AM

A Raheem Sterling kinda player, for the left hand side.

  • 3 DeanToon88 // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:22 AM

I will be over the moon when we get Debuchy, he’s a solid right back. on the other hand i’ll be devastated if we lose Ba, he is a quality striker and hes worth double what Chelsea will pay for him, I dread to think how well Chelsea will do with him in the side, we should try and keep him and increase his wages because it’s very unlikley we could get a similar player for 7m he’s worth at least 15m, what will we do without him? Cisse has lost his scoring ability and we have Ameobi who is too old and will be retiring soon. I have a funny feeling that we will only get 2 players in this window because MA is too tight with his money, and it’s going to cost us in the end.

Very true ed only want players who want to be here. I may take a drive up to the training ground this morning see if demba is still here

  • 5 Kyo // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:23 AM

You can’t say Cisse has lost his scoring ability when he hasn’t had a run playing centrally. Let’s revisit this topic in a month or two.

  • 6 SupaToonKid // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:24 AM

Debuchy in the bag now we just need a tank CB aka Douglas & a FW like Doumbia, Remy or Aubayameng who can play out wide as well as CF. Sissoko would be lovely too but he can wait till the summer & maybe Erik Pieters as well for the summer.

  • 7 Greg B // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:24 AM

When you say ‘we will not qualify for European competition next season’ are you already writing off winning the Europa League???

    Yeah me too hahhahahah

Debuchy would be a great signing, Cisse back in the middle will also be a big positive, Cabaye, Taylor, Ben Arfa all coming back from injury will be a massive plus too, its not all doom and gloom.

  • 8 Graeme // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:25 AM

Ed, Ba is NO different to you or to me!! The loyalty goes into the bank account at the end of the month!!

We signed him for peanuts in the scheme of things and added clauses to limit his wages, limit his compensation if his knee explodes; he has appearance bonuses – the only player at NUFC who has them to my knowledge.

He has a clause that allows him to negotiate with any team prepared to offer £7 mill for his services. Once again NUFC try to play hardball and offer him probably half of what he’s worth to take the clause out. Unfortunately for us, Ba knows exactly what he’s worth and wont be Lambsarse bitch cos he knows he is worth a hell of a lot more.

Bottom line – he walks away from a cheapskate employer, for a hell of a lot more money – and who are we to blame him??

I wish him well, he deserves better than the slug and his sidekick. But, I wish he stays; he’s a class act.

  • 9 Toonacious T // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:28 AM

Will we beat Everton with what we will have available?

  • 10 MacToon // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:29 AM

It’s rarely straight forward at NUFC.
If Ba does go I hope he’s replaced adequately and this isn’t the reason we’re trying to stop Shola going to the Acon.

  • 11 Kyo // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:29 AM

    Toonacious T

I doubt it. Draw at best. Only reason we even got a point at Goodison was because of bad referees and Ba.

IM still splitting my sides with that one …!

KYO- agreed, its really bad when the knight in shining army riding in to save our defence is Mike Williamson.

  • 16 cockneymagpie90 // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:39 AM

Love this squad before the window shuts…

I put a 10er on us to be top 4 this season on 250/1 odds a couple weeks ago knowing we will do business because of our league position making ashley sh*t his pants.

All i need is the players through the door and a miracle unbeaten run til the end of the season and i clame 2500 quid 🙂

  • 17 gfp13 // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:40 AM

I’d like hope we can still get remy, play him left, hba right and cisse through the middle. Stick to the 433 or 4321 that worked so well last season. I don’t care about whether ba or cisse are happy that they’ve been put left wing. Ba should have been forced to play there as when he was there and cisse through middle it served the team best and that’s what matters at the end of the day.

    Debuchy saylor colo santon
    Anita tiote cabaye
    Hba remy

That’s a good 11. Add a new cb and a few extra players, like sissoko on a free as already mentioned and we will start to challenge for Europe again next season

  • 18 Graeme // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:42 AM

According to Sky – “Sources confirm Chelsea FC are yet to agree a fee With NUFC for the transfer of Demba Ba – that was about 2 minutes ago!!

  • 19 SupaToonKid // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:42 AM

Maybe we should chuck Remie Streete in at the deep end vs Everton surely can’t do any worse than Willo + Perch is DM/FB not a CB. Remie looks such a class act at such a young age.

It’s worked before with Phil Jones when at Blackburn, James Tomkins at West Ham & Ciaran Clark at Villa. They’ve all seemed to done alright & Remie’s even better. Won’t happen but would be amazing if it did & worked out.

  • 20 Marty-Toon // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:42 AM

Thought we might win against Everton but not sure with BA leaving

Arsenal asked the FA prem to call off their game with west ham on boxing day because the tube was on strike ..resulting in Arsenal having 2 weeks rest at Christmas time ! the FA said whey I Arsenal Gan on pet … can have the day off resulting in a well rested Arsenal that had a 2 week holiday because of a one day tube strike ..

Do you think that if by the time we play Su***fU**land and the metro system have a day off they will let us call our game off ? lIke F**k they law for Arse And another for the wee team in the north east ..IS that meant to be Aberdeen btw? ..Fergie has forgot where he comes from. BAs***rd.

Do you know that Arsenal pay for everything regarding the England youth set up ? and I do mean everything ..Why ? Also David Dein, MR Arsenal, is vice Chairman at the FA ? That’s Vice btw..not as in vice squad though it could be or Should be Looked into by the Vice Squad . There’s Some nice girls a kicking around the offices of the FA prem these days ..wonder where they are coming from. mmmmmmmmm

Au Revoir Demba thank you for what you did for us.
apart from filling the gap up front,we need a new back 4 after yesterday.Santon had a mare but still a great player,Collo looks like donkey just now,Krul cant get down especially to left and his kicks are weak(maybe an injury there?) The other 2 just squad players,sorry.8 goals away from home and 0 points say’s it all to me.
Debuchy will be great signing, how about Peiters,Douglas,Sissoko, and Remy go on mike splash the cash,it is the sale season after all.Maybe if you go to PSG u buy one get one free Gameiro and the young centre back were after.Happy New year every one.Isn’t life fun been a toon fan.Oh Ed belated xmas greetings, but hope 2013 is a health free year(no Illness m8)

Why is everyone crying about ba leaving, its going to help the team!

No more striker on the wing.

    No more ba cisse partnership.

    No more unhappy cisse.

Two wingers bombing up both wings.

433 is defo the way forward now and could see us doing well in the new year of the right business is done.

    Never say never.

i’ll probably get curssed out for making a comment like this but…i wouldn’t be upset to see someone come in a make a 20-25 mill bid for tiote and get

    sissoko, alderweireld, remy, guidetti.

tiote has had a mediocore session but not his fault really, i think bigi has come along nicely, will continue to grow with sissoko.

  • 27 ONLINE GUY // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:52 AM

It’s Amazing, Arsenal and West Ham are in the same City..plenty buses and cars. and shank’s pony ..yet they let them have the day off and postponed the game at Arsenal’s request. How Accomodating . I think Newcastle had played 3 games within 7 day’s with that one.. No wonder we fell apart last 5 min’s.. Wenger was Laughing up his sleeve ..There should be an enquiry.

  • 28 Toonacious T // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:52 AM

OnlineGuy- Arsenal had 7 day gap not 2 weeks, more time than us after ManU game but thats why you have depth in your squad if you want to compete.

  • 34 cockneymagpie90 // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:55 AM

@Toonacious T – i know mate but i feel very strongly about the team i mentioned and if we were to have that i think we could defo fight for 6th spot.

That squad is well balanced and should beat anyone!

2 very good attacking stlye FB.

Douglas for his cammanding ariel threat.

    Colo for his great tackles.

And with a midfield 3 of tiote who has the strength, anita with all round ability and cabaye with his passing skills. ( all with great stamina)

And then the best bit… a trio of benny-cisse-remy would rip every team a new arsehole!

  • 35 Kyo // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:55 AM

After the summer window I’m expecting to get nobody. Go ahead and surprise me Ashley/Llambias.

  • 36 cockneymagpie90 // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:58 AM

@Kyo- Ba is not a CF… hes too greedy to be a CF.

  • 37 NUFC141 // Dec 31, 2012 at 1:58 AM

im only happy/ relieve only when Debuchy puts on a NUFC shirt. and i do hope Ba stays but if he is gone, prolly its time for Cisse to regain his form. they cant play along side each other. Fact. it will be great if we can ship jonas out too. he seems to hav lose his plot. watever the case, i wish MA will splash the cash, keep the key players, win Europa and stay alive in BPL! dat will be a great start to 2013! Happy holidays everyone!

  • 38 cockneymagpie90 // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:01 AM

This is why they dont work as a partnership because they are both strikers and playing to strikers in a 442 is ridiculous… wheres the link up? I blame pardew for this knowone else.

Before the season started i said from the start rotate them but it never happened and look where we are now.

  • 39 Toonacious T // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:04 AM

cockneymagpie90 – I luv your optimism mate but I don’t see us getting Remy now lad with our league position and his expense. Hope I’m wrong tho. The season is half way through and momentum and gelling players take time to build.

Onlineguy- If u wanna politically agitate your American cousins just mention the impending fiscal cliff and tax rises. Although if they support the toon, they have to be permanently agitated atm anyway!

  • 40 Kyo // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:08 AM

Apparently Remy has been poopy for a while now anyway, hence getting benched at Marseille. I wonder who Carr/Pardew are really after right now. If it’s actually Remy then I hope he’ll be good and will actually come here sooner rather than later.

I realised that once Ba leaves, we’ll only have ONE senior striker. Shola is off to ACON. If he doesn’t go, the Nigerian FA will get FIFA to suspend him.

  • 41 89Norcal // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:14 AM

Maybe Cisse can pull a Luis Suarez then. 🙂

I’m sure the staff has shortlisted some strikers from the continent. But I hope we also get a winger, especially if we get Remy on a 10m+Marveaux deal.

  • 42 cockneymagpie90 // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:16 AM

Toonacious T – Time to gel in a team of nearly the same nationallity(french). This isnt the hardest thing to do and hes very good mates with cabaye from when they use to play together.

Hes an international player so he has experience with top players. I have a massive feeling he will impress in his first few games for us.

    Mark my word mate!

  • 43 Toonacious T // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:16 AM

Demba Ba- Goodbye and good luck. Just realised Southampton are the same goal difference as us, 3 points behind us, with a game in hand. Why wouldn’t Ba want to go to Chelsea? Our bench against Arsenal told its own story, bad injury list or not.

  • 44 ONLINE GUY // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:18 AM

I thought about Saying this to someone in my reply to some dog’s abuse I got ..waddya think ?

You have not got my intellect . My depth of thought and Sophistication ..and are without my amazing Humour .. Im the best at everything anyone can be ..I am really Amazing . with an IQ they cant measure….How can you call me Dildo ?

Nah…. Maybe need’s a bit more…I’ll wait , tell the Wife in the morning after breakfast…

  • 45 89Norcal // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:21 AM

    Toonacious T

Our younger players aren’t half bad, but when you throw them together on the pitch like that in an away fixture vs 2 top clubs, this happens.

It’s just our defense. The last 2 or 3 seasons Raylor and Saylor have been guaranteed long term injury threats. It really is ridiculous.

I’m sure Willo could suffice in the temporary filler role, but as a season long CB, he can’t hang. Now that morale is low, our defense just gives up.

  • 46 Toonacious T // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:22 AM

CM90- U had me going there for a minute mate but I think they are looking £10m for him and if we have already paid 5 for Debuchey and say 3 for Douglas, how much net spend will MA stretch to this window d’ya think?

  • 47 89Norcal // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:25 AM

Just read that Ba’s agents are being firm on the extra fees, which is pushing Ba’s fee into the double digits still.

That might scare off Arsenal, but Chelsea I highly doubt.

  • 48 Toonacious T // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:25 AM

89Norcal- other than Bigi, which of our youngsters do u rate?

  • 49 cockneymagpie90 // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:29 AM

@Toonacious T – I was talking about debuchy btw haha and i still think we can get all 3 with a net spend of 10m…

    Ba 7.5 – simmo 1-2m = 9-10m

    Debuchy 5m – remy 10m – douglas 3m

Cheapest for all 3 id say 8m.

Thats less than another cisse deal!

Also adding a couple free bees such as sissoko etc would help and send out a couple fringe players on loan.

    Sorted 🙂

  • 50 89Norcal // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:30 AM

    Toonacious T

I meant to type subs, but youngsters I rate are Vuckic, Campbell, Fergie and Ranger (talent wise :)).

As for subs (when we are at full health), Obertan has improved his offensive ability and is settling into his winger role. Marveaux obviously even though he seems hesitant at times.

Problem is sheer number of injuries to key players. Our entire starting midfield was absent from the Man Utd game, and most of it at the Arsenal game after losing our 1 spark in Anita.

  • 51 ONLINE GUY // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:37 AM

Feel a bit Sorry for Danny Simpson..I was wondering if there is another position for him and after much thought decided that there aint..HE just needs a lot more time at a club where he can come again and build up his confidence ..he’s still young and is carrying a lot on those young Shoulders .. We have put him under tremendous pressure really..He know’s he is not loved at the moment and it has effected him ,,He has read it all and does take it to heart , it has Hurt him ,,Danny just needs time and an arm around him and some support through the hard times.

We have not helped him through the bad game’s ..shame Pardew could not rest him for a while ..Im sure Danny will come back a harder better player. He won’t give up , He will come good ,,He is very young and has time on his side. All the best Danny whatever you do mate ..I hope you stay with us and take your chance well next time round.. I think you will mate.

  • 52 Kyo // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:38 AM

You feel sorry for Simpson? Well I do too. No human being should be that crap at football.

Then again he gets paid thousands to be crap. No point feeling sorry for him. He has the last laugh.

  • 53 mattnufc // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:39 AM

Fee from Demba will be minimal – most of it goes to agents and Demba himself.
Pretty sure Douglas gets his work permit in July so won’t be coming before then.

  • 54 89Norcal // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:41 AM

    Kyo – lol!

The difference was when he became an “attacking fullback”. Simmo is anything but that. Firstly, he can’t cross consistently and second, he just sprints up and down and wears himself ragged, which allows wingers to beat him easily late in the game.

I also didn’t understand why he was falling into the center and Cisse was defending on that right side vs Arsenal, even when Simmo was in better position to start with.

  • 55 ONLINE GUY // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:41 AM

kYo Take away the money and think of the person,,HE aint no Criminal ..just someone who has lost a bit of confidence. It happens and when it does you play badly . I know all about it . Danny has taken some shit ..and deserved in some games ..but its down to confidence ,,He has all the ability you know ?

  • 56 cockneymagpie90 // Dec 31, 2012 at 2:44 AM

Ok then if not douglas we can get that argentine German to partner colo for peanuts and if thats the case with demba cashley will have to dig a lil deeper.

At the end of the day he will lose a lot more from being relegated than to spend 15m on what we need and fight at the top of the table again.

We really have to sign him .

Blimey! everyone wet the bed like?

Think West Ham scouts have been reading this blog to conduct their transfer targets:

Everton game is going to be tricky now. Williamson is back so perch can play in midfield so thats tiote and perch in the middle, obertan and marv will no doubt get a full 90 minutes too. Ba is probably going to have left or wont be risked so it might be cisse up top alone or with shola. If anita is back we might see a 451 or 433 which could work very well. Oh and we have bigirimana so we should have enough midfielders available to field a strong 451

  • 63 Brutooon // Dec 31, 2012 at 3:40 AM

Swap BA for Lampard ! Not sure if it would be a good move as Lampards 34 years old but his two goals yesterday shows he can still play!

Maybe, i,m mad but such a move would go a long way to solving our midfield problems in the short-term !

Just like to say, it was just a thought ! Probably never happen, but the clubs surprised me in the Past!

  • 68 Slank // Dec 31, 2012 at 8:13 AM

    Newexpatmagpie @ 67

Would be better if we swapped Ba for Patrick van Aanholt.

We don’t have midfield problems. We have an over abundance of midfield players. Where we are shy is in defence and upfront.

  • 69 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Dec 31, 2012 at 8:51 AM

    @ 68:

Thats a good call Slank ! van Aanholt is having a superb season in Arnhem, and Vitesse have been flying high in the Dutch League for most of this season.

However, it is very doubtful that Chelsea would go for such a deal ! It is also rumoured that Wilfred Boney of whom i am also a long term fan will be off to a top Italian or Spanish Club at the end of this season !

We could of had Boney playing for us if we had gone for him a short two years ago!

    upon Debuchy signing…

Looks like remy is off to QPR so we won’t be getting a striker that seems to be why shola is so important all of a sudden .no doubt the plan will be to take remy in the summer once array takes the hoops down.
Still maybe best to concentrate on a centre half and a link midfielder
If we can keep benny and marveux fit don’t need to worry about a wide man ,now Ba has gone at least turnip head will find it easier to select a 433 or 451 however you look at it .
    Quite exciting really!!!!

    Debuchy 5m
    Remy 10m
We should get lescott for 8m
Maybe Douglas 3m (if we can’t get lesscott)
    Simpson to Blyth Spartans
    Williamson to Gateshead

Does any-one on here really think QPR have the Financial Clout to outbid us for Remy?

    I don,t think so !

Why would remy want to join a sinking ship (qpr)& on the ba situation what about a cash & swap deal with romelu lukaku, hes starting to look good & hes wages would be alot less

I will be sorry to see Ba leave, if he does but Newcastle need players who want to play for the club and not just be there because of the money and there have been many of them, and it is not to hard to see that Ba and Simson are in that catagory.
We have been linked to some good players in France so i just hope we get the ones that come to the club to bleed for the shirt and love it there for us fans and the Team.
