There were moves yesterday concerning Newcastle United in the transfer market, and the good news is that Mathieu Debuchy could be announced as Newcastle’s first signing, after a fee of £5M was agreed between his club Lille and Newcastle, and wages have already been agreed with the player himself, so all is left is a medical, and Mathieu could be introduced as a Newcastle player on Tuesday – January 1st, 2013 – that’s tomorrow.
Demba Ba – seems ready to walk away from Newcastle
But bad news accompanied that potential signing, with Demba Ba and his representatives widely reported to be in negotiations with Chelsea, who will activate his£7M release clause in Ba’s contract, and if wages can be agreed and Demba Ba can pass a medical in London, he will leave Newcastle, and he has probably already played his last game for the club.
And with it looking almost certain that Debuchy will be arriving soon, the door is now open for Danny Simpson to leave, and at least we’ll get around £2M for him, instead of the zilch we would receive in the summer, when his contract runs out on Tyneside.
Danny has always said he wants to stay at Newcastle, but that looks like pure PR – and Newcastle will now move him out.
And it’s almost certain that Newcastle will bring in a new center-back next month to further strengthen our defense, and there are reports surfacing that Newcastle may go after long term target 24 year-old 6’4″ FC Twente center-back Douglas, whose contract ruins out in the summer, and could be brought in for around £3M in January.
And with Ba likely to move out Newcastle will need to bring in another striker, but our feeling is that it will be difficult to persuade Marseilles striker Loic Remy to join the club – but we could be wrong on that – we hope we’re wrong on that.
Quite honestly – we are still astounded that a player like Demba Ba could simply walk away from Newcastle – but that looks likely to happen now.
It will be good news when Debuchy’s signing is announced, but the team will be weakened if Demba Ba leaves the club – but hey – as we found out in the relegation season – we only want players who want to proudly wear the famous black and white stripes of Newcastle.
So if Ba wants to leave for big money elsewhere – so be it.
Debuchy has always wanted to join Newcastle United – in what he has called his dream move – so we have no doubts where his heart will be once he arrives on Tyneside – and we think he’ll get a great welcome from our fans.
But it’s up to our players and any new acquisitions we can get in during January, to fight our way clear of relegation – and we think we can do that – and although we will not qualify for European competition next season – we could come back again big time next season – because our squad should be a lot stronger.
We’re still positive on Newcastle – even though it was really bad news about Demba Ba yesterday.

Comment #81I will be sorry to see Ba leave, if he does but Newcastle need players who want to play for the club and not just be there because of the money and there have been many of them, and it is not to hard to see that Ba and Simson are in that catagory.
We have been linked to some good players in France so i just hope we get the ones that come to the club to bleed for the shirt and love it there for us fans and the Team.
