Has Shola Ameobi Pulled Out Of Africa?

1:55 pm, Tuesday, January 1st, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 496 Comments

England-based defender Danny Shittu has pulled out of the Nigerian squad for the African Cup of Nations, which will start shortly in South Africa, but it seems that Nigeria still haven’t heard what the situation is with Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi.

shola ameobi scored qpr

Shola Ameobi – after scoring brilliant winner against QPR

But Sky Sports are reporting that Shola will not play in South Africa this month, and as we said last week, there’s no way Newcastle can force him not to play in the African Cup of Nations.

The only way Shola could get out of it is to say he doesn’t want to play for Nigeria, which is exactly what Danny Shittu has done.

The Media Officer of the Nigerian team, Ben Alaiya, said the following from their training camp in Faro, Portugal – that’s where Newcastle were last January for a few days break.

“There is no word from Ameobi yet on whether he will be part of our Nations Cup preparations. Keshi said he cannot force the player to play for the country, and so he is still waiting to hear from Ameobi on his position and then we will take it from there.”

If Shola is not going then he will have to officially pull out, and apparently there’s a clause in his Newcastle contract, which says that’s what he will do if ever selected by the Nigerian side.

It’s all still a bit fuzzy, and it’s been interesting that we haven’t seen Shola play for Newcastle since he scored that magnificent winner against QPR.

Maybe we’ll see him in action at some time tomorrow night against Everton.

Comments welcome.

How did West Brom not score?! D:

  • 4 Magpies-till-d3ath // Jan 1, 2013 at 1:59 PM

Just seen that Ba is the fourth highest premier league scorer since the start of last season. Only Robin Van W*nkshaft, Rooney and Aguero have scored more!

  • 5 MacToon // Jan 1, 2013 at 1:59 PM

Hope the choice Is Shola’s at the end of the day.

WB-Fulham game’s canny lively, thought it would be err a boring game lol.

We need West Brom to win!

  • 7 MacToon // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:00 PM

What a well taken goal by Fulham, route 1 lmao.

    Classy goal.

  • 9 Tsunki // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:00 PM

Indian – see your new years resolution is the same as the last one then.

  • 10 JackButler // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:01 PM

If Ba does leave then Shola will have a big part to play if/when we don’t bring in a replacement, but if Ba stays then Shola will be benched, tough one this, but I hope he does pull out as no doubt we’ll need him.

Lukaku is looking a class act, why the hell Chelski want Ba when they have this lad is beyond me.

  • 11 Indian Magpie // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:02 PM

Why let a good thing go.

    Lukaku again.

  • 13 Tsunki // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:05 PM

This is a tough one. Shola is kindly putting it, in the twilight of his career and not answering the call could be a big kick in the teeth in repayment of his loyalty to the club. I have no doubt he would get on with it though?

Could we afford to have Campbell as our bench backup? Big risk or massive opportunity? I think Pards has had his fill of taking risks.

  • 14 Tsunki // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:06 PM

Inidan, I know, I know. Someone has to do it. :)

breaking news now…Debuchy is reported to be on Tyneside to conclude the formalities of his deal today and have medical…..jippiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii……

  • 18 JackButler // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:11 PM

    hatem786

where did you get that from???

  • 19 MacToon // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:11 PM

Anyone noticed when Pardew hasn’t a choice of players to pick from, forced into a starting 11 and formation in a way, we’ve played better (as in recent games) but given a choice he finds it difficult to pick the right team and formation?

  • 20 Tsunki // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:11 PM

hatem786 – dont toy with us now everyone here is feeling pretty delicate. Dont say if you dont mean it :)

  • 21 Williamson is Bramble in disguise // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:11 PM

Let the lad go play for his country for gods sake! its the only chance hes going to get, and im sure we can manage 4 weeks without, theres campbell, ranger and hopefully a new striker as backup to cisse, and if needs be obertan, sammy, or benny if hes back from injury could play down the middle!

  • 22 proudtobageordie // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:12 PM

That’s history mate he arrived on tynside last night in the batcopter

  • 23 Tsunki // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:14 PM

Mactoon – ha ha unfortunately (and this is right into catchy’s domain) I think a lot of that is true. The last two games have definitely been attack as a diversion from our woeful defense and dm. I didnt slate Pards for trying and failing so badly because he had his hands tied for selection and therefore formation.

  • 24 MacToon // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:15 PM

Could Shola’s choice be stay here and sit on the bench or go to Africa and sit on the bench?

  • 25 Tsunki // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:15 PM

Ah the batcopter forgot about that. Anyone see that dastardly penguin about?

  • 29 hatem786 // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:17 PM

Debuchy is reported to be on Tyneside to conclude the formalities of his deal and have medical today

Sky Sports News quoted “sources at Lille and sources close to the player” on Sunday when reporting that agreement had been reached over a move from Lille to Newcastle for Mathieu Debuchy

  • 30 Robby Bobson // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:17 PM

Mactoon…well part of it is hes been force to play marv whos gives us a cutting edge in final third…

I also think Bigi, anita, perch etc were really harrassing the arsenal (for 70 mins) and man utd midfield as thats the type of players they are.

  • 31 MacToon // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:21 PM

Well last season the starting 11 nearly picked themselves each week and the starting line ups remained quite familiar, this season it’s been everything but.
I’m not bashing Pardew btw, just thinking out loud.

  • 32 JackButler // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:24 PM

With Simpson out for around a month that means he’ll walk away for free come the summer, bet Ashley will be spitting fire over that one

  • 33 Robby Bobson // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:24 PM

Anyone know if anita is back tomorrow?

  • 34 JackButler // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:25 PM

    Robby Bobson

Not heard anything yet, but I hope so as we need him

  • 35 Dagwoodz // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:26 PM

@33 Reports are speculating that he very well might be, but I personally will wait to see the team sheet before I say whether he is or not.

  • 36 MacToon // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:28 PM

Was a real second blow at OT seeing Anita going off right near the end of the match, hope he is fighting fit again for tomorrow.
Obertan seems to have improved recently but still see him as an impact sub atm.

  • 37 Robby Bobson // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:28 PM

Hmm be interesting to see if he lines up at right back or midfield…perchys heading could be needed in the centre with anitas pace against baines. We certainly looked better when they swapped to that at goodison.

  • 38 JackButler // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:32 PM

Think we could see Santon at Right back with Perch in the middle and Fergie on the left with Anita in midfield

  • 39 Transfer Sage // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:42 PM

Ameobi played at arsenal. So we have seen him since the qpr game.

  • 40 Dagwoodz // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:43 PM

If that’s what they go for JackButler, Perch and co. should make sure they’re careful to track back when Fergie goes forward as he’s apt to do. He doesn’t track back too terribly well yet.

  • 41 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:44 PM

Okay bloke at work is adamant that for some reason the window doesn’t open until tomos for some bizarre reason!
He’s saying thats why sturridge hasn’t been announced yet all sounds strange to me!!

  • 42 Transfer Sage // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:44 PM

Simpson could still leave in January.

    A broken toe wouldn’t stop a deal.

  • 43 nick_9 // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:45 PM

I think we will see perch at full back, not big on fergie at full back. Midfield of tiote, Anita bigi and a front free of Marv, cisse and Ba. I don’t think we will leave him out unless he is very close to moving but i personally feel he is too much risk for clubs. Wouldn’t be surprised if he comes up with a mysterious knock though so he can avoid the game

Lol thats what i thought but he’s pretty insitant!
Dont really care either way just hoping debuchy isnt stuck in the jesmond with barnetta!

  • 47 Transfer Sage // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:48 PM

Ba may be quite cheap in terms if only 7.5 mil but clubs will be wary.

An article ran a few weeks back stating that totalling up his transfer fee, agent fee and wages the deal would be close to 25-30mil.

Normally that’s fine for a good striker over the course of a 4/5 year deal but Ba has this history of a knee problem. Not caused him any issues yet but how often do you see a player get a huge deal then they stop playing through the pain and just collect their money.

Not saying Ba will so this…but clubs will be cautious as it has happened with players before.

  • 50 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:50 PM

I seriously think it would be a mistake to stop Shola going to the AFCON ! I really do !

Like Tjunki says, he is at the twilight of his carreer and this maybe his only chance, in fact it is his only chance to play International Footy!

If you also take into consideration that a lot of people on here continually say that he,s a Shite player, and endlessly slagging him off! then i say let him go !

His Loyalty or commitment to the club has never been in question! I consider him to be one of our better players!

Plus if we all get what we want? If ? Then by the time the AFCON begins we should have at least one, hopefully two new strikers through the door anyway! Even and i say again even, if BA leaves! Which would not surprise me !

    Let him Go!

  • 51 Transfer Sage // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:50 PM

Surely the transfer fee for barneta would be cheaper than the room service bill he must have racked up by now haha.

As for SSN there overly reliable like how many times in the summer did they report we’d signed debuchy!!

  • 56 Graeme // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:54 PM

    Why not play

    Anita- – – – – – – – – – – Tiote

    - – – – – – -Cabaye

    HBA – – – – – – – – – – – – Marveaux

    - – – – – Cisse OR Ba

It would give us a lot more room to play; frees up Cabaye to do what he does best; provides a 4 man attack with support from FB,s when needed; provides a 6 man defence when needed, with support from front 4.

It should make for a fairly well balanced set-up

  • 57 BelfastMagpie // Jan 1, 2013 at 2:55 PM

The best players imo from newcastle and spurs in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
    ———————Tim Krul/Hugo Lloris———————–
    –Walker———Gallas———-Vertonghen——-Santon
    —————-Cabaye————Parker————————–

Overall Spurs is a better team and i dont think they are overrated. We have good midfield and strikers when nobody is injured, but spurs have better substitutes imo.

wish laudrup would come to us, but the fact that pardew is manager shows we aren’t a big club any more. Laudrup will be on to bigger and better things I’m sure

it’s disgusting given the payers we have and even allowing for injuries that we were 16th for a few minutes there.

At the god knows how many times of asking maybe we will see Ba or Cisse tomorrow not both or cisse wasted at right wing again.

We can still put out a hell of a team especially with the form of Anita and Marveaux, even Obertan who is an actual right winger.

when you show it like that it shows how dismally poor we have been under pardew this season.

With our players we should be out footballing so many clubs not hoofing it until the last few games.

  • 135 davis_toons // Jan 1, 2013 at 5:37 PM

Why some player just dont like passing the ball?

Because the moment they pass it, its going into the air and they will have to start chasing after it again.

Therefore, HBA realise that and he will take it on his own as and when he can, even if it is half way down the line.

Imagine, R9 and Messi playing under long ball tactics, they ant going to pass too. Because they dont like chasing after the ball so much, rather spend more of their energy on attacking and scoring goals then wasting their energy chasing the ball when the other team pass around. (playing monkey)

  • 136 stretchintoon // Jan 1, 2013 at 5:40 PM

    Football / Soccer = TEAMWORK.
With 1 SP talent, you can only score a goal or two. (HBA)
When you got a good teams of players covering for one another weakness. You can do much more then 1 or 2 goals.

Irrespective of the Debuchy saga (who has not yet signed) I can recall an earlier bold statement from you mentioning the Debuchy deal plus a signing that would shock us all.
Out of interest who is the ‘shock’ transfer then or are you not at liberty to say?

  • 227 Jayden // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:38 PM

  • 230 JackButler // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:41 PM

davy – I hope he now understands that as if we had brought in the likes of Debuchy, Remy and a commanding center half during the summer window I doubt we’d be looking at the bottom of the league

  • 231 NUFCarter // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:43 PM

I hope mirin isn’t the only CB we sign. We want a proven player that will make instant impact on the team and significantly improve the defence. It will be great to sign mirin but I was expecting another CB after Curtis good Last summer and he hasn’t done anything for the first team YET so wouldn’t want that to happen again.

  • 232 nick_9 // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:43 PM

Ah, sissoko looks good but I think insaid it earlier that i can’t see him coming in unless tiote goes.

The league table isn’t looking good as things stand, two points off the drop zone and eight points off tenth. Could be nine points off tenth tomorrow before we even kick a ball.

  • 233 davybtoon // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:44 PM

Jb – I truly believe he has learnt that this season, the one thing you can never do is stand still as a team
This transfer policy works but you always have to improve your squad for it to work

  • 234 Jayden // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:45 PM

I don’t see, nor want Tiote gone. Yes, he’s in a huge slump, but without him our already shaky defense will be even more exposed. No, we’d be better off keeping him.

  • 235 davybtoon // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:45 PM

  • 239 Jayden // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:47 PM

Just to re-iterate the point that P2BAG made earlier: in the summer we’ll have an extra £50k aw salary because of Xisco’s contract ending. I reckon Sissoko would join for that.

  • 240 breno95 // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:48 PM

Would much rather see a deal agreed to bring M Sissoko in now rather than the young CB from Valenciennes. As for CB we need one that will go straight in to side and hit the ground running so to speak. I would also like a 3rd defender signed – Pieters. The likes of Remy would be a bonus IMO as leaking goals too much of late.

  • 241 davybtoon // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:48 PM

Lads just bcoz we sign a sissohko or diame does not mean tiote has to leave, u have to stop this crap that you can’t hav one player bcoz you already hav a player like him, if we had the chance to sign someone like hba u wouldn’t say we don’t need him bcoz we already hav hba

  • 242 NUFCarter // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:49 PM

That would be great if he can immediately replace Williamson and have great performances but will need an experienced CB as well.

  • 244 Jayden // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:52 PM

  • 245 proudtobageordie // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:53 PM

thats exactly the point i was making. our midfield ain’t as weak as people are saying. defence is and a new striker

  • 246 davybtoon // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:53 PM

We don’t need an experienced cb we just need a quality cb n gcarr thinks this lad can do it for us I believe him, put it this way Liverpool n psg looking at mirin aswell so he must b quality

  • 247 nick_9 // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:53 PM

I didn’t say sell tiote but can anyone see us signing sissoko without a midfielder leaving? That’s the area we have depth in man. Tiote, Anita, perch, bigi, cabaye, Marv all play in the centre and then gosling and amalfitano are up and comin if they ever make an impact. I really can’t see us saying oh he’s a good player lets sign him for added competition in an already packed midfield when we don’t have good enough back up centre backs, full backs, strikers and wingers. That was my point.

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moussa_Sissoko

Tottenham made a £15 mill offer a few years back according to this, not sure if its true

  • 248 JackButler // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:53 PM

Getting Mirin in would be a great move long term, but I doubt very much that a second division player from France would get into our starting 11 irrespective of how poor we are right now. Toby Alderweireld is more along the lines of what we need now

  • 249 toonLYF // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:54 PM

I’ve only watched Mirin about 3 times for Valenciennes. They have a striker called Vincent Aboubakar who i really like, hense the reasoning for a watching a few of their games.

Mirin doesn’t seem THAT pacey, but is very athletic and would certainly improve our back 4. I doubt he could just walk into our first team due to obvious inexperience and the fact he has only really been tested in one league.

Would be an exciting addition though.

  • 250 davybtoon // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:54 PM

We should look at loaning streete n good to the same team so they can form a partnership for us

  • 257 ToonDownSouth // Jan 1, 2013 at 6:59 PM

People aren’t saying we can’t have Tiote & Sissokho because that’s their belief.

They’re saying it because that’s exactly what DL said.

‘One good player in each position, then youngsters and squad players to pad out the rest’.

  • 258 Jail for Ashley // Jan 1, 2013 at 7:00 PM

I’m not even going to think about another striker unless we get at least three defenders signed,a RB to replace Simmo a decent young LB who can challenge Santon and an expensive international class CB who can make Collo think if his names going to be on the team sheet.

  • 259 toonLYF // Jan 1, 2013 at 7:00 PM

Sakho is exactly the mould of CB that we need. He would be the perfect partner for Colo. Fits our transfer policy to a tee, I really think he’d be worth splashing out on if he’s available.

  • 260 JackButler // Jan 1, 2013 at 7:02 PM

    Jail

Why does it have to be an ‘expensive international class CB’?

Hasn’t Carr proven over the past few years that you don’t need to pay big money to get a great player???

  • 261 Jayden // Jan 1, 2013 at 7:03 PM

Yeah, well Derek can do one. If there’s no danger of a player losing his place, what does that do to the team, especially when the manager refuses to make changes? When Jonas comes back, what’s the betting Marveaux will be dropped?

  • 262 89Norcal // Jan 1, 2013 at 7:04 PM

I agree a competitor for Santon would be good to keep him on his toes, but do we really have the luxury of setting that up? I think a left winger and a striker are the top priorities because we need those badly.

Haha just read into gouffrans wiki who apparently plays for nufc but it’s bull after reading he’s allergic to grass Which is described by his manager as embarrassing. Still he could well be on his way to Newcastle but I want to see a quality CB first.

  • 347 Mister Tuff // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:06 PM

Some of you boys need to chill a bit. We’ve all endured speculation in the press for 5 months about what is and what is not going to happen. The long wait is just about to end. From the speculation we do know about it is clear things are ongoing now behind the scenes and it can only be a matter of hours before the first announcement is made to confirm Debuchy is here. And then the next one, the next one and the next one.
    Don’t panic.
Also don’t be daft and ask sources where the info comes from -original information sources should not be compromised.
Next big question for me is whether Parsnip will play Ba (that’s if he is still here) -I fancy he will and think that the continuing debate in the second half of the season will be Ba as CF or Cisse. I think Percy Parsnip will continue more or less with the current forwards set up – with possible experiments in the EL. If the correct players have been selected the defence should be, if you pardon my expression, tight as a pair of nuns knickers.
Fear not just a few hours to go. For what its worth my shout has always been Debuchy, plus two others plus Ashley may break the bank a bit a get another well known/quality/surprise player in. The action is happening at the start of the window -which is a good sign. Hold the nerves!

  • 350 GeordieToon89 // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:13 PM

Arsenal were probably one of the main reasons why the French national team was so good, basically all of frances starting 11 were in Arsenals starting 11 so they were playing and training together every week anyways, so we could really end up making France a major force again haha

    —————Krul
    Debuchy-Sakho-Coloccini-Santon
    ———-Sissokho-Cabaye
    Ben Arfa—Marveaux—Remy
    —————Cisse

I’ve always said I’d hate to have a non english starting 11 but well if this was our starting 11 I’d just pretend Krul was english as he’s been here long enough ha

  • 354 GeordieToon89 // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:16 PM

Sakhos not a yaya toure type player, he’s a centre half but he’ equally comfortable at left back aswell, proper beast though and pretty pacey aswell, easily one of the best french defenders

  • 355 kevymartins // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:17 PM

oops sahko seems to be the cb sissokho then

  • 356 JackButler // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:19 PM

Without Saylor we have no bite to our defense and Colo is constantly having to put out fires but Sakho will add that Bite and then some, plus he’s very composed, reads the game really well and is very vocal (does he speak English though?)

  • 357 Jayden // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:19 PM

I would really like to see Sissoko here. I’m shipping up to Newcastle for uni so need good entertainment on weekends :D If we do get relegated (touch wood), at least season tickets will be cheaper ;)

  • 358 GeordieToon89 // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:21 PM

  • 359 Fostino // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:21 PM

  • 364 Toon XI // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:26 PM

Be careful Jaydon. You might your wish if Ashley doesn’t strengthen in January. Looking at our fixtures I see the late January games of Reading and Aston Villa as defining games for the run in. If we perform poorly in those two matches we are f’d for sure.

We better be safe and clear before the final 5 matches. Don’t see this squad taking too many points from them if we don’t add depth.

  • 365 Fostino // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:26 PM

    toonarmydownsouth

agreed..cnt rely on taylor…seems to be a last ditch type of defender..instead of calmly neutralise problem…he does offer set piece potential even tho in fairness will seems to win eveythin defensively

  • 366 JackButler // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:27 PM

    tads

I think the partnership between Colo and Saylor works far better than Colo and a.n.o
Colo’s form drops when Saylors out as he constantly has to cover everyone else and is then not able to focus on his own game.
Williamson and Perch should not be playing at center half as they are not good enough even if we are a ‘wee club’

  • 367 GeordieToon89 // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:28 PM

Full defence this season has been rubbish to be honest.. Santon has played well in most games but other than that we’ve conceded way too many from stupid defensive errors and also the midfield pairings have been giving the opposition too much time in the centre to literally walk through and pas the ball and apply too much pressure to our defenders in which they cave in and do the mistakes they’ve done.

  • 368 GeordieToon89 // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:28 PM

Gouffran is allergic to grass, his allergy has been described by his coach as “embarrassing”

  • 369 Spuggy // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:30 PM

Do we never learn from every window that until there standing on the hallowed turn in the black and white it’s fantasy football.

I hope we bring in 2 defenders as a minimum, and a CF if Ba leave. If he stays we could survive til summer with the strikers we have.

  • 370 ToonDownSouth // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:30 PM

  • 372 Jayden // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:31 PM

We’ve also got a fairly easy bunch of fixtures between late Feb and late March. Barring Swansea (A), they are all very winnable.

  • 373 HullMag6 // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:31 PM

GT89 re arsenal and line up couldnt agree more and with matching sentiments.

Debs, Remy & Sakho would be outrageously good add sissoko. either now or pre contract for the summer.

Question is – is there currently any affordable English talent out there?

  • 374 jimmysmith // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:31 PM

Debuchey and the return of Cabs and Tayls will make a HUUUUUGE difference, it’s not enough, but would be a big injection of quality at one time. Also in their absence Anita, Marv and Obertan have emerged as 1st team assets. It’s far from out of the question we’ll go on a run to counter balance the last two months. Lots of good players and still plenty to play for. I am cautiously optimistic.

  • 375 Mister Tuff // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:31 PM

proud @347 – definitely not a new found belief – constant theme from the summer as my posts would substantiate. Originally fancied Douglas but then was not so sure. Did a few posts on Debuchy going public and the effect this would have it it was not pursued further. It all seems to be shaping up now.
I am not a fan of the manager -hope he proves me wrong -so I do have continuing doubts there. The time a manager should be assessed is when things go wrong.
I am going to view the season now as starting towards the end of January -with several new players in ,who should be a step upwards -skill wise -lets see how they are managed/shaped into a team. Ashley will never ever risk losing PL and TV revenues. So quite excited at the moment.

Can’t believe Milan are selling Pato to Corinthians

  • 377 Jayden // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:34 PM

HullMag, No. It’s a shame that our transfers come from abroad, but the inflated transfer fees for English (caused by the Home Grown rule?) players, ie Downing, Henderson, Fletcher, Jarvis, Carroll even Zaha, leave us little to no choice but to shop abroad.

  • 378 JackButler // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:34 PM

There are only a handful of clubs that can afford english players these days as their prices are simply stupid, I’m more than happy to see quality from over seas coming in if they improve our side

What brought it into focus for me was when we beat Liverpool at SJP last season our starting 11 cost less than what they paid for Carroll. It seems that if you are English your price is doubled irrespective of quality

Personally think willo does better than taylor in big games and vs liverpool it looked like willo was busy looking after colo! Same for the citeh game
But your right willi is not good enough to play the level that the club say they want to play at,
Problem is neither is taylor he may work better with colo but he’s not a top CB and is a permenant sicknote, you need to reliable CB’s to build the foundation of a top team for me

  • 386 Jayden // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:41 PM

  • 396 Mister Tuff // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:51 PM

proud as KK once said the owner knows absolutely nothing about football and the managing director knows even less -not a good endorsement of their potential football wise. Business wise -totally different – Ashley is very successful, with fingers in loads of pies. He recently bought a TV station -sports Direct News or something -owns the company but buys in the news -another arm to his advertising. He is not a Newcastle fan but a fan of how it may help his SD empire.

  • 397 GeordieToon89 // Jan 1, 2013 at 8:51 PM

alot of championship clubs are responsible for these great prospects especially palace they’ve produduced clyne moses and zaha but teams like birmingham are forced into selling their best young players because they are quality like jack butland and actually cost alot more than the other older and also they have financial issues its shame really but it also makes the championship more interesting and ive always kept an eye on the championhip its a great league with some great teams.

  • 408 JackButler // Jan 1, 2013 at 9:05 PM

Williams the cb at the smoggies is another example, 10 million apparently.

I honestly believe we have our own Zaha in Sammy ameobi if given game time in the championship. Tav, Sammy, ferguson, albeid, vuckic all need to go out on loan and Campbell needs to play at a higher level

    Kyo @ 420

    Was he heard to say:

Bonjour mes amis. Je suis venu aussi vite que j’ai pu, où est le pingouin?

  • 440 Kyo // Jan 1, 2013 at 9:43 PM

Here is the tweet from the person that claims to have seen him: https://twitter.com/s1cky11/status/286199424638656512

    At Newcastle, not Gatwick.

  • 441 tenpointnine // Jan 1, 2013 at 9:44 PM

    Isn’t Google Translate great?

  • 442 Kyo // Jan 1, 2013 at 9:47 PM

Private Jet. Man… can’t wait to see how he plays for us!

  • 443 Mister Tuff // Jan 1, 2013 at 9:47 PM

Kyo -nothing obvious on flights last London one was at 7.30pm Royal Jordanian Airlines – unless he was on a private flight.

  • 444 JackButler // Jan 1, 2013 at 9:48 PM

Any player coming would be flown in on a private jet and not on some commercial airline

  • 445 Kyo // Jan 1, 2013 at 9:49 PM

    Mister Tuff

he says Private Jet on the link I posted up there.

  • 446 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 1, 2013 at 9:49 PM

Well as exciting as debuchy signing, maybe, is it doesn’t change the fact we have a very tough game tomos night with no RB!

  • 447 ONLINE GUY // Jan 1, 2013 at 9:50 PM

All noted Carter..iv actually had some great nights out with the Brazilian lad’s you will know some of the names. Some of them went on to Porto. Boavista .. Barca..etc.. one Player ,not Brazilian, I used to drink with, Shoot pool with , could have signed for Newcastle from Boavista and went on to Barca ..one of the best players the world has ever seen..and Newcastle turned him down ..

  • 448 GeordieToon89 // Jan 1, 2013 at 9:51 PM

Kyo – You cant fly from Lille airport to Newcastle according to the airports website

  • 449 JackButler // Jan 1, 2013 at 9:51 PM

    tads

Anita is back so thats better than having Simpson fit :D

  • 450 Kyo // Jan 1, 2013 at 9:54 PM

    tads

Santon will hopefully deal with Baines and maybe Anita will be back and in the LB or RB position. Who knows.

It will be a tough game no doubt.

  • 451 Mister Tuff // Jan 1, 2013 at 9:54 PM

  • 452 NUFCarter // Jan 1, 2013 at 9:54 PM

I knew and know a lot of players out in Spain And Portugal from under 20′s football and tournaments all over Europe mostly , Im going back a bit ..but I was able to watch a lot of them become top player’s. The Portugese people are amazing..And if you ever want to remember a good night out they are the greatest. to be with. I did get to meet a few great’s .. I knew Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink ..before he became famous. Load’s of stories but tend to keep them to mesel.

  • 491 Kyo // Jan 1, 2013 at 11:41 PM

Willian… I would knock one out in his name.

  • 492 Toon1978 // Jan 1, 2013 at 11:44 PM

Only one person saying it but he RT from Sky Sports news. Will be a crock of sh1t if Willian is that good and expensive lol. Nevermind :)

  • 493 GeordieToon89 // Jan 1, 2013 at 11:49 PM

Toon1978 – yeah mate a just seen it hes doing it as a wind up he quoted a retweet from sky sports and edited himself to make it look like sky had already said it and he posted a link to the sky sports home page, which inevitably fooled people into thinking it was real ha

  • 494 Toon1978 // Jan 1, 2013 at 11:53 PM

    GeordieToon89

Cheers fella. Nevermind then lol. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for Debuchy and Remy lol and a CB :)

  • 495 Kyo // Jan 2, 2013 at 12:07 AM
