Newcastle After England U21 Center-Back

With the January transfer window opening today it’s probably not a surprise that Newcastle are being linked with players they were after in the summer, and one report says that Newcastle are still interested in West Ham’s 23 year-old center-back and sometimes defensive midfielder James Tomkins.

James Tomkins 1

James Tomkins – Newcastle interested – again

Newcastle tried to get the 6’4″ youngster to Tyneside in the summer, but at that time West Ham manager Sam Allardyce was adamant that James was going nowhere, and West Ham refused several Newcastle offers for the player.

And since West Ham have struggled of late and are now only 3 points above Newcastle, although they have played one less game, it’s unlikely West Ham will want to sell in mid-season to a potential relegation rival, and James is an important player for the Hammers.

It would not surprise us if Newcastle made a decent cash offer fort Tomkins – and maybe as much as £5M – but we think there’s little chance of getting the player through the door this month.

And we’ve seen James give some very good performances as a defensive midfielder too, and his versatility will also be an attraction to the Tyneside club.

We think this lad is a very good youngster but we don’t think there’s much chance of getting him to Newcastle this month – what do you think?

For the record James Tomkins has played 131 times for West Ham with 7 goals, and he has played for all the England Youth sides, including two appearances for the England U21 side and two appearances for the Great Britain side.

    http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/newcastle-boss-pardew-delighted-debuchy-arrival-3722081

Debuchy is due at St James’ Park
tomorrow to complete his £5.5m move.
He will be in the squad to face Brighton
in the FA Cup third round on Saturday
after Danny Simpson broke a toe at
    Arsenal last weekend.

Don’t rate Tomkins. With clubs not wanting to sell players in Jan, I wonder if the French cb and debuchy will be deemed as enough for now, with Remy hopefully too. Then summer move for Douglas on a free, with wilo leaving.

Can’t imagine he would be many fans’ choice as the senior centre half we need – already got Perch who can do a similar job so wouldn’t waste £5m on him when the same money would probably get you Sakho, Douglas or Mbiwa

    re-post from last post

My guesses for the transfer window are:

A cheap CB from a mid-table european club, probably in the age range of 21-25. This could be –
    Willy Boly
    Virgil van Dijk
    Jeffrey Gouweleeuw
    Erik Pieters

Don’t think we will be able to get players like Douglas, Sakho, Alderweireld or Mbwia. Each of these players are playing for a club that is competing at the top of their respective leagues or/and thinks they will get a better deal in the summer.

Attacking wise, i think it all depends on whether Ba leaves or not. If Ba stays, i don’t think they will be any other incomings. If he leaves then, i would guess the following:

Loic Remy – Could be bought for a smallish outlay if you take into account the money from the Ba transfer.
Miralem Sulejmani – Ajax want to sell, player wants to leave, 6 months left on, can play on the left, right or as secondary striker as part of a front 3.

So in summary, i think Debuchy should be in soon (hopefully before the Everton game) and then it will be 1 other defender. Any other changes will depend on the Ba situation.

    p.s. Happy New Year

woul be an excellent move but don’t think we will get him .
Strong ,confident and good on the ball ,as well as a danger for set plays ,the real plus is he would slip straight in and can play with either colo or Taylor
He is also only going to get better soffits the Ashley plan andcofvcourse knows pardew

I think the most we going to spend on a new CB will be at the very most 3 million GBP. Tomkins will cost more so it is a no for him in my opinion.

I’d like to see Harry Maguire brought in the future, great prospect. My concerns in Jan are what striker options do they have if they fail with Remy and aubameyang.

TADS – Proper little Dennis wise you are lad! No offence of course – just messing.

Yeah Isimat-Mirin is quality. I spoke on here yesterday of direct contact from Newcastle with Valenciennes and thankfully it has been proven (more or less) today.

The lad is one of the most highly rated players in France at the moment. 6 (poss 7) caps for France U21?s and even being touted by some as a possible surprise inclusion in the 1st team. Stands 6’2 and pacey. Great in the air and strong. A proper ball playing defender.

He is being touted at between £4-5mil but his agent ( Mikel Beck ) but I reckon a solid bid of £2.75m – £3mil) should be enough. As for the club itself – they have a good feeling withe regards Newcastle and how they treat there players properly without forcing them into a first XI. Despite our dodgy 1st half of the season – NUFC’s rep in France is sky high.

As for Tomkins – No thanks! Over rated, struggling for a game where he is and at 5mil – he’s about 3mil too expensive. Better value elsewhere. This sparks of lazy journalism to me!

I am not to sure he fits into big fat SAMs plan of hoof ball and there in may lie the chink of opportunity.
You may have different views but for me Nolan as an exception big fat Sam isnot the best judge ,,

    @18 :

Whats your rush on Debuchy, we,ve been waiting the whole summer so where,s the problem with waiting a few more days?

Plus, we can,t play him anyway until a valid players licence is issued for him in UK anyway!

I have heard he will be in the stands watching tomorrow evening against the Toffees !

    Patience lad!

Would much rather have Mbiwa as he can play across the whole back four.
